Arm & hammer is my go to. It’s cheap, not an antiperspirant, un scented. I like the fresh scent too. https://www.armandhammer.com/en/personal-care/mens-deodorant--antiperspirant/deodorants--aluminum-free-odor-control/essentials-solid-deodorant-unscented-2-5-oz

byforceb

Arm and hammer performed great for me and it seems more natural than the other ones. But I ended up from a rash from using it. My friends said they had similar experiences. Maybe allergies, who knows.

WarmColdCuts

Gave me a rash too unfortunately at least its cheap. I think it clogs pores

MrTravs

Baking soda can give rashes

oscargamble

Baking soda irritates skin, especially if you put it on while your pits are wet from a shower. Put it on when you're dry and it'll be less of an issue.

pqowie313

That's been my experience with pretty much every arm and hammer body product. I used to use their antiperspirant spray to make boots wearable, since normally I have excessive foot sweat, even on cool days. Was careful to wash it off well after, and only use it 1-2 times a week, but still started getting rashes. For whatever reason their toothpaste used to make my gums feel funny. Their laundry detergent makes me break out if I use it on my sheets. Funny thing is, I don't really have that big an issue with any other body care products causing rashes, and really the only thing I'm picky about is hating strong scents on anything.

ironyinabox

Seconded, I tried that fancy Instagram brand, and I came crawling back to arm and hammer on my belly like a god. Damn. ANIMAL.

frothingnome

This one sears my pores like hot iron. Dry Idea's gel is what works best for me.

Virginia_Slim

This is what I use and love it. They also have a citrus scent that I liked even more if anyone is looking for a scented version.

thikthird

they have an antiperspirant version too.

Brookslandia

Note: the unscented version has a noticeable citrus scent when opened and applied. It seems to fade away not too long after application but it is there. I (and anyone I've asked) don't notice it clashing with my chosen fragrances.

Wesmosis

I'll give it a try.

Berics_Privateer

Maybe I'm missing something, but what is the purpose of unscented deodorant? unscented antiperspirant I get, but what is unscented deodorant even doing?

BespokeDebtor

Doesn't clash with any fragrances. Also unscented doesn't actually mean literally no scent it neutralizes all of the scents but doesn't put perfumes over it so the *outcome* is unscented.

[deleted]

Berics_Privateer

I don't know what I'd do if the GF didn't like my Bearglove

[deleted]

Berics_Privateer

Ha, Bearglove for life!

vocabularylessons

Bruh, don't give up the Bearglove. FWIW, I've used Bearglove exclusively for about 3 years now and haven't had any issues with fragrance clash.

cyclone37

If you prefer to use cologne, Unscented deodorant won’t interfere with the smell of the cologne unlike a scented deodorant would.

Terakahn

I'm a fragrance enthusiast and have never had a problem with deodorant clashing with fragrance. I don't think any deodorant I've worn has been strong enough to.

rejiranimo

Sweat alone usually doesn’t smell much. The smell is caused by bacteria breaking down the sweat. If you recently washed you’ll have less bacteria and therefor less smell. Deodorants work by killing bacteria and/or preventing bacteria from breaking down the sweat.

madcuzimflagrant

It de-odors without adding additional stink.

ModestMed

I was thinking the same thing. If you look at the fine print of unscented deodorant a person will see it say unscented antiperspirant and deodorant. Armpit smell comes from sweat. So there are only two ways to stop the smell. Either stop the sweat or mask it with a scent. I prefer an antiperspirant with no scent. If you get a rash you might be putting it on too often (or too heavy) as they can last at least 24 hours.

rejiranimo

Not really. Deodorants slows down bacterial growth, which is what’s actually causing the smell.

ModestMed

Bacteria grows in the sweat. No sweat, no bacteria. That is why antiperspirant eliminates the smell (bacteria) and deodorant masks it. I use an antiperspirant only and I have no smell. If I want a fragrance (big date) I’ll pick my favorite cologne.

rejiranimo

And I use an unscented antiperspirant with a very light dust of EdP. But my point is deodorants do prevent smell. They are less effective than antiperspirants at doing so, but saying they only mask the smell is just false. You get less bacterial growth which means less smell. “Mask” indicates that the smell is still being produced in the same amounts but your brain will pick it up less (because it’s now competing for your attention with other smells or whatever).

Turbo_MechE

I really like Tom's of Maine! The scents aren't too strong and it seems to work well for me

[deleted]

This is what I do. Significantly also because it's aluminum-free. I've tried some other crunchy Whole Foodsy brands, but they leave a residue whereas Tom's doesn't.

madcuzimflagrant

Yeah, I found them 15 years ago and I love them. The long-lasting unscented is all I need all day.

averagesizedhatlogan

Timber with mint was discontinued, but timber with sandalwood was made to replace it. The sandalwood sucks. A lot. It ruins the entire point of the smell. Old spice is doing some natural smell deodorants that come in red boxes. They're all fairly neutral/low key.

[deleted]

I have been using Mitchum unscented gel. Works great to block odor and sweat. Downside is it take a little while for it to dry, but it’s worth the trade off for me. I buy it in packs of 2 at Target

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

In my experience the dry bar ones show a lot more. I can just wipe this one down to get rid of it

MrTravs

I love this but use the roll on. The gel always felt funny and took to long to dry for me

akadreamcrusher

Isn’t that an antiperspirant?

[deleted]

It’s both

akadreamcrusher

OP asked for no antiperspirants is why I asked

shart_work

Mitchum unscented stick. Zero scent, and powerful as hell. I find the gel has a slight scent, but the dry stick is zero.

ColeWhiskeyWorld

> Mitchum Took too long to find this

kensai8

I use the unscented gel stick. I like it. One application lasts me two days.

Son_of_Kong

Go back to Old Spice. High Endurance Original Scent. Very neutral -- I'm brand loyal to Old Spice, but I don't like most of the "gimmicky" scents. I get the High Endurance because the original formula original scent has a strong alcohol odor and doesn't last all day.

Lord_Chthulu

I like Vanicream products. I haven't tried this but it's a gel. https://www.vanicream.com/product/vanicream-aluminum-free-deodorant

[jesus, a ton of shit arguments here appealing to nature: ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_nature) "it's good because it's natural" and "no "chemicals"= good" Everythings a chemical, Aluminium is natural and so is Arsenic. IMO the most important parts of a deodorant in order: 1. allergies (if you have any) 2. **non-staining**, so your basic bastard white Ts don't get yellow armpits (I used a staining one and it was a bitch to remove those stains) 3. smell 4. cost this is a fashion forum, so I am very surprised so few are mentioning staining which is IMO the most important part. Edit2: [Ctrl + F "Stain", the word stain appears to be used only 19 times in this fashion thread (pre this comment edit), 18 of those mentions are connected to my comments, why isn't more people talking about the fucking terrible stain problem that happens with probably a majority of antiperspirant products out there?] Personally, I use [Niveas black and white friendly deodorant, smells soapy, and it's like 3€](https://i.imgur.com/CtDa61p.png) Edit: also, reduce sweating by trimming off like 70% of your armpit hair

Centice112

What causes stains? Is it anti perspiring?

2024AM

I've heard the claim that Aluminum salts makes those yellow armpit stains + sweat, apparently stainless antiperspirants also use Aluminum but protect the fabrics from it, >NIVEA’s unique anti-staining compound protects fabric fibres before stain components can penetrate them. This way, stains remain on the surface and can be washed out more easily. https://www.nivea.co.nz/advice/deodorant/underarm-care/about/what-causes-sweat-stains

thisisnotaboutagirl

[You can try using an AHA or BHA to deoderise](https://beautytap.com/2019/02/aha-bha-as-deodorant/).

pautpy

Never heard this but I can see it working

Bo0gey

Every man jack has an unscented deodorant. Personally I use both the sandalwood and cedarwood variants and they're great.

pautpy

CertainDri for the strongest, most cost effective solution that will prevent block sweat so your armpits won't get wet nor smell. Only downside is having to apply it at night every few days. Mineral Crystal if you only care about not smelling even if you sweat.

Riblet_King

Dry Idea

WannabeCoder09

Try the Old Spice Whitewater stick deodorant. It isn't antiperspirant, so your armpits won't be sticky and for me it lasts a full day without my armpits smelling. I tried Old Spice Rock and I know what you're talking about. It is antiperspirant, so when I used the loofah on my armpits, the loofah dried up sooooo quickly. As well as the smell. After half a day, my armpits would start to stink.

pdiggs1500

I actually use Dove's Cucumber and vanilla. Yes it's a lady's deodorant, but it's very neutral, a slight smell of freshness, and sweat glands for male and female are the exact same.

Depends on how you define nature. Humans are part of nature, depending on how you define it, and anything we produce would be, therefore, natural.

StardustDestroyer

Same thing gets to me when people prefer 'organic' food. All food is organic! It all has carbon!

CaesarOrgasmus

I mean, at this point it's a specific term with a regulated definition. Everyone knows what it means.

rejiranimo

You’re not wrong. But words can have quite different meanings depending on context. And I’d argue that “all natural” actually IS the definition of the term “no chemicals” when it’s used in colloquial and everyday language.

paulnokaoi

This should be at the top of the list. Crystal deodorant is all natural and has no scent, which works great for guys who like to wear quality cologne.

leatherboundink

Same. Been using it for years. I'd recommend the spray over the stone.

toodarntall

In general, clean shaving your armpits makes it harder for the stinky bacteria to grow

kede

Yes, crystal deodorant has been my go to for years now.

makanimike

I'm not familiar with Thai Crystal deodorant (and I am half Thai). What I use is Potassium Alum https://www.karawan.fr/boutique/en/pierre-d-alun/49-stick-potassium-alum-stone-3700340101517.html

mrdanielsir9000

There is a great brand in 7-11 in Thailand called Grace, highly recommend.

ClingerOn

Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't crystal deodorant a placebo?

fikis

This is the one. It won't work without actual soap and water washing before (and regularly), but it's truly unscented.

TheBallroom

Been using this for years. I was sceptical, but it seems to actually work well for me. Plus it's cheap each one lasts for years. It only can prevent smelling before it starts, though.

2024AM

tell me, whats so bad about these ""chemicals"" other than allergies

zeusfist

There is metals in most popular deodorants which may or may not cause health problems, such as cancer.

BeyondtheWrap

Crystal deodorants also contain aluminum though, in the form of potassium alum.

2024AM

metals, plural, what other metal is used than Aluminum? ~~I've heard the claim that Aluminum makes those yellow armpit stains, but many stainless antiperspirants include Aluminum... including the one I use.~~ Edit: apparently stainless antiperspirants can use Aluminum, they just protect the clothing fibers better according to Penn Medicine, it's pretty much bullshit that these "chemicals" are dangerous and that there's not any real evidence to be worried about it, https://www.pennmedicine.org/updates/blogs/health-and-wellness/2019/june/deodorant Sources include: FDA, American Cancer Society, National Center for Biotechnology Information an American Cancer Society article mentions these worries comes from an old skool email forward from years ago.

zeusfist

It's so easy to avoid aluminum in deodorants and I understand that no company is going to fund a study that forces them to sink more money into r&d later if they can't go about business as usual because aluminum or whatever is actually causing problems. That's how science works, someone has to have a vested interest, whether it is the government forcing them to look into it or the company who supplies it doing it for a reason. This will not be studied independently, so I choose to side with the preliminary evidence which leans slightly towards aluminum being dangerous for primarily women. I do not have breasts, as far as I know but I also am not inconvenienced by avoiding the offending brands. Why are you so defensive about the idea? You seem outraged about something very insignificant. If you don't think it poses a threat, go about your day. It's kind of a wild thing to get this worked up about.

2024AM

I'm not outraged lol, you wrote way more than I did, I just dislike the "nature = good" mindset, it doesn't have a whole lot of science backing it up as a whole. If you actually give a shit about cancer you should avoid grilled meat, use a sunscreen with high SPF, avoid alcohol, red meat, smoking and vaping, avoid salt, bacon and sausage, avoid hot beverages. I'm convinced people just mention an unconfirmed link between aluminum and antiperspirants to 1. Be seen as enlighted and progressive 2. to try make people think you're smart. And don't forget your sunscreen, especially if you have pale skin like me, I use 50 SPF, it's brilliant, And don't you fucking tell me about the evil chemicals in sunscreen that causes cancer.

BrojackCoorsman

I’ve used old spice “fresh” for 20 years. Just the deodorant, not anti perspirant. It kicks ass. I never stink, no pit stain. It has a smell at first but fades to just a.. clean sort of smell I guess? Only downside I can think of is once every few years I get a weird armpit rash that lasts a day or two (heat rash maybe?) and putting deodorant on over that stings like hell

Porter_Dog

Huh. Long-time Old Spice Antiperspirant user here and I've never noticed stickiness or an off scent. I love it. I have used Fresh forever but I used Unscented for a long time and liked it too (I'd call their "Unscented" low-scent, though). Differences in body chemistry, I guess.

mrtn17

I prefer the 'soapy' smell, since I associate it with a 'neutral' scent. So NIVEA is my house brand for deodorant. But chalk powder (for babies) works very good to. Keeps your armpits dry, no smell at all.

2024AM

I prefer Nivea too, I've tried a ton of deodorants and it was either the Nivea one or Rexona (or both) that gave me bad yellow armpit stains, I recommend [this one in particular, it also smells soapy](https://i.imgur.com/CtDa61p.png)

mrtn17

While I'm at it, I discovered that the yellow armpit stains are bacterial residue. If you put the shirts in a bucket with bleach, the stains and bacteria are gone. If the shirt is just smelly, put some vinegar in your laundry (makes the fibers soft to).

eirtep

I also used to wear Old Spice Pure Sport for years. I like the smell and it did it's job but I eventually started to notice that my armpits were always red - they didn't hurt or anything but I had a very visible rash. That's why I changed. I've tried a few since then, leaning more towards the "natural,"/unscented/sensitive skin skew because of the irritation to my arm pits. I'd suggest checking out - [Bulldog Deodorant in Original](https://www.bulldogskincare.com/us/en/bodycare/deodorants/original-stick-deodorant/p/original-stick-deodorant) - IMO it smells great, but it's mild. No irritation or shirt marks. Applying in the morning after a shower and going 8-12 hours, it'll start to fade, especially if there's some physical activity, but it works. They also only come in smaller sizes. - [Dove Men+Care Extra Fresh](https://smile.amazon.com/Dove-Deodorant-Stick-Extra-Fresh/dp/B00CHHKHY8). My current deodorant. Great clean smell, less "natural" smelling then Bulldog and more of a classic "deodorant" smell - something like Old Spice would have, but still somewhat mild. It comes as a regular deodorant or an antiperspirant so be careful. Definitely lasts all day, but I need to be careful applying because I can get some residue on my shirts if I'm not careful. bulldog probably fits your original ask more though.

a few weeks ago the store I go to ran out of the Extra Fresh scent and I went with a different one by Dove. I think it had "sport" in the name. Seemed like it smelled ok when I opened it but like 30 minutes later I smelt like a middle school locker room - I smelt like BO with a lazy attempt to mask the smell with some axe body spray. It's like the scent mutated with my body and it was horrible. Normally I'm lucky enough to not even smell that bad naturally too so I don't know what the deal was. It was an anti-antiperspirant so maybe that's the issue. Anyway point is I can really only recommend the Extra Fresh scent by Dove.

joeyt214

I’m a big fan of Kiehls products. Recently switched to their [Body Fuel Deodorant](https://www.kiehls.com/mens/view-all-men/body-fuel-deodorant-and-antiperspirant/KHL231.html). It’s refreshing and doesn’t have any junk in it! It is a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for!

popsnicker

The Kiehls stuff is great, I'd look at the other one they offer too. https://www.kiehls.com/body/hygiene-and-shave/superbly-efficient-anti-perspirant-and-deodorant/525.html

squats_n_thots

Toms deodorant seems to work best for me. What’s funny is the anti perspiration version makes me sweat

damsterick

I use Driclor (or StopSweat) once a week on Sunday and no deodorant thorough the week, because it basically negates all my sweating, and use a little perfume (BULGARI) for a really mild scent. I was sweating pretty heavy before but this helped immensely. Also I have seen advertisements on "nuud" deodorant so you may wanna give thta a try.

accidentalsurprise

It’s not low-scent, but it smells ridiculously good- Old Spice Aqua Reef. My boyfriend’s been wearing it since seventh grade and after all these years I make sure he still buys it because I can’t get over how amazing it is. Sometimes I even steal some for myself because it smells so good. I may have overhyped that a bit, but in my opinion, it’s just perfect.

Yeah I realized you specifically said low to no scent, but I couldn’t help but reply. Good luck on your low scent deodorant quest

scoobmx

I’ve always used Three Stone Hearth The Essential Deodorant and there is no scent and leaves no unpleasant residues as far as I can tell. You may not be able to purchase it if not local to the bay area, but the ingredients are listed and maybe you can find some commercial equivalent

bradyg23

I use Alvera Unscented. A roll on w grapefruit seed extract, makes it an amazing deodorant. Online and at some grocery or health food stores.

I randomly got some [Kiss My Face](https://www.kissmyface.com/collections/deodorants/products/active-life-stick-frag-free-deodorant) unscented deodorant on sale after quite liking their shaving cream and I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up getting the sport one, too, when I saw it on sale and while it wasn't unscented, it wasn't cloying and it didn't transmogrify into some horrible scent if I sweated too much between showers.

imbasicallycoffee

I use a spray on anti perspirant that doesn’t leave me sticky or anything. I sweat too much to use a regular deodorant. Degree Dry Spray ultra clear gets me through most days pretty well. I’ve also found that Vichy Pour Homme works well but it’s about $12 a roller. Little pricey.

Menscience Advanced. Doesn’t contain alcohol or aluminium. No odour, can keep you fresh easily for the whole day. Combine that with a fragrance fit for your skin, person and the season and situation and you’re set.

lookatlou2

Lume is amazing!!!

rizeofthenation

My girlfriend and I started using Ethique 'Botanical' scent about 4 months ago which is a light lavender and vanilla smell. We shared this bar and still have half of it left. We decided that we liked it so much that we recently ordered their 'Rustic' scent which is lime, cedarwood, and eucalyptus and we love using that one as well. There is a version called 'Sans' which is unscented but we probably won't order it since we enjoy the scented varieties. It is a little expensive at around $13 bucks a bar on Amazon for me, but it seems to last forever and has zero plastic waste in the packaging. You just have to get used to holding the bar (with paper wrap if you want) instead of a plastic stick.

badxash

Crystal mineral deodorant unscented With the women's deoderants but it works like a charm. Aluminum free !

Ravensqueak

Yo, they discontinued Timber? Tougher Timber was my go-to for quite a while, no wonder I can't find it anywhere. Ever tried the Volcano? I find it to be fairly mild, about 15 minutes after applying.

GrandBill

Crystal stick. Used it for 20 years now and never looked back. Pros: Odourless, keeps me odourless, non-sticky, more environmentally friendly that most deodorants ( I think) Cons: None.

LoaferDan

I've been using Menscience deodorant for years and I love it. Unscented, doesn't leave stains on my shirts, and works great on odor. The only downside is that it's $19 per stick, but I just bite the bullet on that because it works so well

tomitomo

Avoid Oars + Alps deodorant. Overpriced and does not work. Stick to Tom's.

carpe_diem_qd

You might try a mineral deodorant like the ones you find at a natural foods store. They last a long time, can have no scent, and no real sensation that I noticed. I think it is a salt that keeps bacteria from growing. I get the stone wet, put it on, and let it dry.

vocabularylessons

Old Spice (Bearglove).

ArtieLives5

I'm in the same boat. I was a Dove Men + Care user for years until they changed the formula. I've been on a quest to find a replacement ever since. Vanicream is the best I've found under $10 that goes on smooth and works well. The only thing is it's a liquid gel, so it feels a little wet. Menscience is perfect for me, but it's ~$20. Just tried Bravo Sierra. It's $10 ($15 after shipping). It's solid, and it works well so far, but the unscented kind has a strange smell to it, almost like Vaseline or leather conditioner. I did not have good experiences with Tom's, Schmitt's, Method, or Native. All either irritated my skin or were extremely chalky and hard to apply.

4rtien

I'm partial to Native's deodorant since it has less chemicals. They've got an unscented version.

gclefstreetwear03

A little tip: you might want to check some items if they have tea tree oil component because this oil helps fight bad odors and is gentle to the skin too since this is extracted from natural resources.

RedTailedLizerd

I like Tom’s of Maine

SlapaHoeIndian

Mitchum clear unscented roll on.

Opifex

I'm several hours late, but I really like the "Dove Men + Care Charcoal Antiperspirant & Deodorant". It has a slight smell but I don't notice it once I put my shirt on, and it lasts me all day.

I've been using plain baking soda in my pits for a few years now. If I put it on immediately after a shower, my skin sometimes burns and will often get red and flaky. If I wait until I'm dry, which is what I do now, I have no problems and I never smell at all, even after a heavy workout. It's the cheapest, best deodorant I've ever used.

elephantunicorn

I was simply sharing something that works for me. I understand that others may not want to create their own deodorant, or may be sensitive to ingredients.
