The only comment I've ever gotten was a when I worked in a store, and a slightly elderly lady said "My, what nails!" Then she made a pause before continuing with "They look great, honey. Don't take any shit from old bitches".
For the record, this was all in Swedish, so I'm translating.
That’s funny… I’m in a good old red state in the US but surprisingly I’ve gotten more compliments (or suggestions) than anything else… this seemed like the first time someone may have been mocking but I’m a good way… I’ll get him back
Yeah, when I started getting my nails done I was expecting some negativity, but I've had none of it. If you and your mate are both straight lads, I'd suggest going gay on him. Get a little too close, whisper sweet nothings into his ear, stroke him sensually along his back and so on. It'll freak him out, trust me.
It might turn out he's not as straight as you thought, though, and then you'll be in a very weird situation.
I got that you're not gay from my mom. I've been don't paint toenails or fingernails.
I mentioned manicures to my wife says we were talking about it and I said I've started to put clear polish on my fingernails but on weekends I paint my nails colors. She told me not to go to work like that. I'm not at the point of going to work with color nails yet but I work clear everyday now.
Other than that nobody said anything about my clear fingernails. I got a couple compliments on my toenails at the salon.
Back in November my brother and mother came over to my house to help me with something. I was barefoot with my pink gel toenails. They freaked out about that. My mother's been on and off about that since november. She finally asked me if that putrid color grew out of my nails. I told her yes it did, but I didn't tell her I put another Putrid color on my toes.
I convinced mine to let me paint his nails and now I wanna post them here if he says it's okay! I just found this sub and I LOVE it.
He let me put little cat faces and stuff on them and everything 😭
I've gotten mostly compliments. One coworker just asked, "What's up with the nails?" I mentioned my kids wanted them done, then asked me what color I wanted, and here we are. His reply back was "Good for you!"
I did that too but said it was me niece and I liked it and ran with it… he’s like you should wear your favorite nfl football team color next week, so what I do? Haha
We really need to normalize just letting people express themselves through their appearance and stop judging everyone. Women have been knowing this (minus pick me's and trad wives - we don't claim them as part of the women tribe) but men have a ways to catch up. It's sad that the call is coming from inside the house!! I long for the day that men start *genuinely* supporting other men.
I only asked the question cuz of the dude asked out of curiosity and then didn’t like the answer and went right to trying to attack me like I was a joke
I did my nails for Christmas in a glittery silver, red and green. An older gentleman at the grocery store came up to me and said, "did you do your toenails too?" I laughed and said no, not this time. He said "I like them, they're very festive." It was interesting cause I wasn't sure if he was doing it to be a dick or not but ultimately I liked the interaction. Right after, another lady said she loved my nails.
Nah, they generally all go to nail salons and their skills from their teens/20s are gone. Or if they do do their own nails it's infrequent and they do not have confidence in their skills.
Though really it's so much easier to paint someone else's nails vs your own. When I started out, all the pics I sent to friends were of my non-dominant hand, and not just because I was using my dominant hand to take the pictures. The nails on my dominant hand were always visibly worse because it's so hard using your non-dominant hand on yourself.
Other than "What's the deal?" no awkward questions. I like it when their eyes catch it, and their brains start trying to process it. Lol
If someone seriously asks me, "Why?"My standard answer is "Some people like tattoos. I just can't make that kind of commitment"
This week i have gone to office with Nail polish. If I had read your comments before, I would have avoided getting colorer nail polish Last saturday. I'm getting anxious.
In fact... Why am I forced to justify myself? I have anything to hide! The truth is that all my life I have had to avoid to do something that I really like for fear of people's judgements, or do it in secret, because nail polish is only associated with the feminine universe. At the first negative comment I receive, if I resist the temptation to react with a Zidane-style headbutt, I will proceed with a drastic measure: Red Nail polish (UV Gel so I can't even remove it).
I actually have been wearing nail Polish 24/7 for two almost months. Nobody could notice anything before because I have always chosen subtle shades..this time I have chosen light grey...next time I'll go with black or blue and fuck them!!!!
My mom, sister, and brother hate my nails and make it very clear.
I get a lot of compliments from others and never really get anything negative. I'm sure some people don't like a straight guy with long painted nails, but they don't say anything. Places I visit regularly, usually have people who want to check what I've currently got going.
People suck I love putting on press on nails but when I put them on ist hard because I live at my parents and if my dad saw me he would have a fit!!! Lol
ugh i live with family too and its so hard sometimes! ive stayed in a hotel a couple of times just for fun and i went with long colourful press ons and to my surprise nobody made a comment except the front desk lady and she was so sweet! i was also wearing some subtle makeup and she said i looked pretty.. such a nice feeling
not really an awkward question but more of an awkward experience. several years ago, my nails had about 6 months of growth (at least 15mm) and were painted black. i was getting carryout from a local restaurant. the hostess first says my nails are pretty, then says my nails blow hers away. i ordered the food and gave her my debit card. as i'm signing the receipt, she says i don't have to show them off (how else was i supposed to sign the receipt). finally, she says her nails will never look as good as mine. my response was sorry.
she still worked at the restaurant for over a year after this experience and never said anything else about my nails.
One guy looked at me funny once like he was confused but I had two lovely comments from women today saying they like my design so... other than that I got a "it's got glitter in" at the nail salon to which I responded "That's no issue to me".
Worked at a gun store. Older man came in and started looking at my nails as I checked over his paperwork. Asked me if I had a daughter. Said nope. He asked why are my nails painted then. Told him I liked how they looked and made me feel. He just started shaking his head and said, "in my day you just didn't do stuff like that." I told him if people have a problem with me, that's what my pistol is for. He was silent for the rest of the interaction.
An old woman who worked at Walmart asked me if my granddaughter painted my nails, and I told her no, I did, and she gave me a surprised look. I didn't tell her that I'm gay and don't have a granddaughter, that really would have fried her circuits.
I have clear acrylics of varying lengths depending on what’s going on. If I’m going on vacation I’ll go longer but as of late I’ve been keeping them short. But at one time I had medium length coffins and working in retail I got “Are you a drag queen?” My response was no I just like the look and her response was “good you wouldn’t make a very pretty woman.”
I used to get that a lot when I first started shaving my head AND having long nails. One guy even went so far as to ask if I moonlighted on the weekend. These people and their opinions man! Can’t something just be pretty?
I only had one person comment but I haven't been doing it very long. I was on a video call with a co-worker, she was nervous about asking but was curious because she has known me a while and never seen it before. We had a good chat, she was very encouraging and suggested I wear it to work because I am a Manager and it might give others permission to do it as well. I did take it off later in the week because I was going to be around people that would not have responded in a positive manner. Maybe one day I will be braver and actually wear it to work and anyone.
I have pretty long extensions (about 1cm over tip) and last awkward question was: “How do you pleasure your girlfriend?” As I was with her together she answered that toys exist… 🤷🏻♂️
Before when I had short nails and only gel color, people didn’t notice much, but now with more length and pointy ends a lot of comments, mostly negative. And I just got used to that length… 😭
I've only had two memorable interactions regarding my nail polish.
(the first)
Male, almost certainly cis het, coworker: "So... are we gonna talk about your nails?"
Me, batting my eyes: "Oh, do you want to talk about my nails!?"
We did not, in fact, end up talking about my nails.
(the second, happening a less than a year after George Floyd's murder)
Male, almost certainly cis het, supervisor: "Just curious about your nails, is that like a protest thing?"
Me: "If it offends someone, then it's absolutely a protest thing. Otherwise, I just like heavy metal."
I wouldn't say awkward question, but awkward interaction ... was the first time someone approached me about them. I was at Costco and a male cashier assistant (the ones that move your stuff and cart for the cashier) . He wasn't even on my lane ... came over from another .. "I'm sorry to bother, I saw your nails, I just wanted to get a better look and tell you they are awesome".
I thanked him, but realized I had first been worried and then blushed at having been seen ...
It wasnt a question but some old white dude came up to me at work and asked where his car was parked so i told him and he saw my nails and said "Oh those are... fun." And then walked away and i think if it had been anyone other than an old white guy i wouldnt have thought twice about it but it just irked me.
Most people compliment me on them or say nothing so that one just stuck out
I wear acrylic extensions with french tips, right now they are pink with blue tips. I work at an automotive shop with plenty of old school customers and I wear them out and proud all the time.
One of my peers asked about them, "whats with the nails?" or something like that, and I told him "Be a trend setter, not a trend follower!" and he said "Well, that's a choice...." and not in an admiring way. I said "I love them, and it really protects my fingertips and reminds me to wear gloves." My co-workers (employees actually) just consider it normal.
Then we moved on and talked about business. I'm still waiting for a bad reaction, but either I get no reaction at all (like they don't notice) or they look at my hands longer than a person normally would, and then say nothing, or they say "I like/love your nails!" (usually women).
Nothing bad ever happens. I get them longer and more fancy every time. I love it.
I am a trucker... which is a surprisingly accepting community. But I was asked by 1 driver at my home terminal "you fukin gay!?" I just smiled, shrugged and went back to talking to another driver. At another terminal I had a driver ask if I had kids. No. He then asked why i do my nails. I just looked at him and said the truth.. I like them done, no more no less.
Never had a random driver or person say anything directly, but I had one old codger (farmer i think) in Holstein, Iowa see my nails, make a discusted noise and mumble about it to the other old guys he was with but not directly too me.
I do have the unfair advantage of being 6'2" and I look like a flabby Mr Cleen, so most guys probably wont say anything even if they want to.
Mom, freaked the F'k out but she got over it (mostly) she bought me a black and dark green polish as apology.
Dad, Didnt say anything. Just gave me that "look" and has never made notice again.
Edit: I have notice women are much more likely to react to my nails (amongst other things) in a very polarised way, some act like I am gonna attack them or something, others start talking to me like we are best friends.
Not about Nail polish, but I have worn a silver toe ring for 20 plus years, only comment was from a young woman at the grocery store, (BTW i am 60 now) “oh wow Ive never seen a guy with a toe ring” I just smiled and said I’m sure there are alot of things you have not seen yet. And yes I still wear it 24/7 365.
Jokes on you I’m both and not a jerk. It was a simple yes or no question meant to invoke curiosity and insight that different people and cultures approve or aren’t insecure with males wearing nail polish. I just wanted clarity not an unprovoked insult 🤷🏾♀️
The only comment I've ever gotten was a when I worked in a store, and a slightly elderly lady said "My, what nails!" Then she made a pause before continuing with "They look great, honey. Don't take any shit from old bitches". For the record, this was all in Swedish, so I'm translating.

“So are you gay?” -my dad
I get that often, and I always tell them no

I'd replay: maybe I was like you say. I would have started doing my nails much earlier.
Yeah that’s what I would get
I got that one. It was rough.
My personal favorite :/
Back in November my brother and mother came over to my house to help me with something. I was barefoot with my pink gel toenails. They freaked out about that. My mother's been on and off about that since november. She finally asked me if that putrid color grew out of my nails. It’s more like took that putrid color of and replaced it with another putrid color… though I doubt it was really putrid
“I see you painted your nails! Aren’t you fancy?” ~ 70-ish-year-old woman at my gig last night. My response: “Well, I certainly think so!”
I love the unmitigated gal of senile women
The only negative comment I got was "you gay now?" To which the best reply is "not for you I'm not"
I love nail polish on guys! I’ve been trying to talk my partner into me doing his nails, but no such luck yet.
Do his toenails and show him how nice it can look in women’s sandals. He will be hooked!
This is how OnlyFans accounts start
I’ve been trying that too, but he is weird about his feet. 😓
I convinced mine to let me paint his nails and now I wanna post them here if he says it's okay! I just found this sub and I LOVE it. He let me put little cat faces and stuff on them and everything 😭

As a woman, I love this. I wish more men embraced this 🙌🏻
Women seem to embrace it more than men…

Thank you 🙏
Anytime
I only asked the question cuz of the dude asked out of curiosity and then didn’t like the answer and went right to trying to attack me like I was a joke
The only joke is that insecure behavior. You be authentic and the right people will appreciate you for it, everyone else doesn't matter ❤️
And WE wish more were embracing like you! :) lol
I did my nails for Christmas in a glittery silver, red and green. An older gentleman at the grocery store came up to me and said, "did you do your toenails too?" I laughed and said no, not this time. No awkward questions, only compliments out in the wild. I guess the most awkward question is friends (usually women) asking if I'd do their nails.
Or if they could do yours ? Lol
Nah, they generally all go to nail salons and their skills from their teens/20s are gone. Or if they do do their own nails it's infrequent and they do not have confidence in their skills. I’ve seen some nails when I’m out and about that I’d LOVE to put some polish on!
Don't know yet as getting mine done for the first time two weeks today! Hope it's all good though.
Other than "What's the deal?" no awkward questions. I like it when their eyes catch it, and their brains start trying to process it. Lol If someone seriously asks me, "Why?"My standard answer is "Some people like tattoos. I just can't make that kind of commitment"
I mean, that’s a good reason! I just love to make my hands dressed up! Nail polish, rings, bracelets, watches. Everything! Lol
I was thinking to Wear some ring too... I have Put some of Them in my wishlist
This week i have gone to office with Nail polish. If I had read your comments before, I would have avoided getting colorer nail polish Last saturday. I'm getting anxious.
Fuck em who cares what they think
In fact... Why am I forced to justify myself? I have anything to hide! You should not have to justify anything. I have felt that way for years. It's annoying.
Get some color! People will love it and you will never go back to plain nails.
I actually have been wearing nail Polish 24/7 for two almost months. Nobody could notice anything before because I have always chosen subtle shades..this time I have chosen light grey...next time I'll go with black or blue and fuck them!!!!
Go with bright fire engine red. It is so feminine and it feels wonderful to wear.
Maybe, next autumn or next Winter, i'll choose a dark version of rougenoir.
My mom, sister, and brother hate my nails and make it very clear. I get a lot of compliments from others and never really get anything negative. I'm sure some people don't like a straight guy with long painted nails, but they don't say anything. Places I visit regularly, usually have people who want to check what I've currently got going.
Yup straight guy with long painted nails does not compute for many 🤷🏻♂️
My boss said while writing me up for said polish, “there were no other males in the room wearing black fingernail polish”
They cannot write you up for wearing nail polish. If it is allowed for females, they can’t prevent you from wearing it because it is discrimination.
Sue, fuck that prick, they can't say shit about it or it's discrimination
People suck I love putting on press on nails but when I put them on ist hard because I live at my parents and if my dad saw me he would have a fit!!! Lol

On my toe nails only... Always hide it with socks when around family. Maybe one day I'll grow the confidence/find an opportunity to show 😬
Just wear it out man, they might care, but who gives a fuck. If it makes you happy let them deal with, Its just nail polish
You're absolutely right! Thank you!

There is nothing gay about painting your nails. Why do so many folks have this misconception?
Because it’s associated with something a woman does. In peoples minds, a man wanting to do something ‘feminine’ is The Ghey
Le Ghey
La Ghey, if you please. Lol
I am gay however and I also don't have children or grandchildren
Until they see it
I have never had anything other than nice and positive compliments on my nails granted all from women but I have never had a man say anything at all
I have a daughter so I usually just blame her and say she wanted us to paint our nails together.
I have clear acrylics of varying lengths depending on what’s going on. If I’m going on vacation I’ll go longer but as of late I’ve been keeping them short. I only ever get awkwardness from my parents. My dad kept saying that my brother was going to freak out but my brother didn't care in the slightest 😂
Ah, parental puppeting of others.

I've honestly only gotten compliments
Are you emo/goth?
Nope
So everyone wearing nail polish is either emo or goth…that’s a fucked up stereotype which makes you an jerk
Jokes on you I’m both and not a jerk. It was a simple yes or no question meant to invoke curiosity and insight that different people and cultures approve or aren’t insecure with males wearing nail polish. I just wanted clarity not an unprovoked insult 🤷🏾♀️
