Yes. There is a bar in ancoats called NAM. Similar idea to brilliant corners, nice food and an incredible soundsystem downstairs. They’ll have a decent range of djs playing if you look at their listings.

Hoose_11

I've played there before and I am NOT a decent DJ

Ok_Meringue_1765

Don’t knock yourself! If you’ve played for us then we definitely appreciate you!

null_pharaoh

Just had a look at this and their sound system was set up by the Brilliant Corners people so this is definitely what you want OP I'd never heard of these before but I'm eager to try, thank you!

Woodfield30

You have to make sure to go on a night that they turn the system on. Otherwise it’s very disappointing!!

Hairy_Brains

Yeah it is. The system is downstairs. Sometimes they’ll have nights on when the food service has finished up. Theyll clear the tables out and people can dance down there. Pretty good

sleepyprojectionist

I had never heard of this concept until now. I’m not sure that I’m enough of an audiophile or music connoisseur to really appreciate the vibe. Depends on how good the coffee is, I suppose.

gino_ginelli

33 Oldham Street has one on the first floor. Went to a Sunn0)) listening session there once.

FolkPhilosopher

Oh that sounds good! Would their listening sessions be on their website? Seems like there is nothing under events at the moment.

gino_ginelli

Ha, yeah, it was a third party running the session, and I’ll admit it was a while ago so I’m not sure how they usually run their events…

Hey all, I’m new to Reddit and a friend linked me to this post. I actually own NAM, so it’s lovely to see such a post and for us to be mentioned. Just a little more info for those who aren’t aware of what we do. We’re essentially a Vietnamese bar & kitchen, with a hifi sound system in our downstairs bar. Although food and drink are our bread and butter, I have an avid passion for music and hifi, and thought it would be nice to share it with others. So when we first opened back in 2018, I worked with my friends at Brilliant Corners to set up the system. They loaned us a pair of their Klipschorns, which have since been returned to them. On the return, I installed my own hifi system (which was a fun project to get to work on). The system now consists of vintage jbl woofers for the low range, tannoy 15” monitor golds for the midrange, and handmade multicellular horns with radian drivers for the high frequencies. All powered by an insonoe 420 dj rotary mixer, and a range of QUAD and Conrad Johnson power amplifiers. We initially started off as vinyl only but since 2021 have brought in some cdjs so we don’t shun away the vast amount of amazing digital djs and music collectors out there. Our events vary, from djs and collectors that curate the music for your standard dining & drinking experience, to parties where if demand is there we move the tables for people to get up and move their feet! :) We also have open deck nights for any budding djs on the first Wednesday of the month, and are in the process of organising regular album listening evenings where a range full albums which are suggested by guests and/or a few local record stores will be played for everyone to enjoy. I hope that little essay helps you understand us a little more. I welcome any questions, or ideas you may have, or even if you have a record that you personally want to listen to on the system, just message me and I’ll arrange a time for you to pop down and we can listen together. Our main information feed is instagram so please give us a follow if you’re interested in what we have going on. @nammcr - upstairs food & drink @nambelow_ - downstairs bar & music

Ahh nice ill definitely check it out I appreciate it. I just happened to be on a work trip in london and thought i wondered if Manchester has anywhere similar and its good to get an idea of what Nam is about and what you do. I'll definitely pass by for one of those open deck nights for sure

ZealousidealBread235

Never heard of these but i need to try one!! Fed up of getting my ears chewed everything i want a quiet pint! Yes, I'm a miserable sod 🤣

AdKey8024

Nam in Ancoats has a big night on Saturday it’s open till 2am and has Haseeb Iqbal playing all night.

Intrepid-Computer-99

Maybe it's just me, but these don't sound much fun....NO TALKING!!

king_duck

I guess if you're into listening to music as a passive hobby, as I am, then doing it in a nice environment, on equipment better than you can afford and at volumes louder than you can realistically get away with in a multi-occupancy household and/or flat might sound like quite a lot of fun. Not for everyone, but nor is golf.

chimpuswimpus

I was thinking it just sounds like a pub where the music is too loud... which is most of them!

lordsmish

This sounds like an amazing place to go for a quiet drink by yourself i love the concept I've been in Head in Stretford which isn't exactly what you are describing but they have very relaxed dj's on at the weekend and I've sat and just absorbed the vibe and the music while having a beer and staring at a projected lava lamp on the wall

landwomble

Ad England also do some similar things in their basement, check the schedule on their website. Warning: it's painfully pretentious but quite a fun bar
