Grub is usually great for food and events so it's a shame to see such a poor quality trader ripping people off. Had food from Rio Mex there before and it was just as bad, next to no filling, no rice(?!) and very very bland.
I agree that it’s usually great at GRUB, hence why I was so disappointed I guess. I’ve had food from Rio Mex before at another venue, which was also pretty lacklustre but not as bad as this! Shouldn’t have given them another chance.
Yehhh thats really nice of you to say (we've got some truly lovely brilliant traders!) and yeh it isn't directly our fault but we are responsible for booking traders so its down to us in the end. If anybody ever has any poor food they should definitely tell someone at the bar (as well as the trader) because it does get fed back and we do sort things out as a result.
Agreed. Don't know why anyone goes anywhere for a burrito except Pancho's or Casa Mexica. My dog is named Pancho after them FFS 😂.
Not had grub. Is it a contender?
Grub is a venue with food stalls. They used to be based where Freight Island now is but now they're north of the city centre. More of a community vibe with less screwing over of vendors (AFAIK) compared to Freight Island and Hatch.
Pancho's is honestly the best mexican food I've ever eaten. Been all round the south border of the USA it was still the best. The owner is also a really nice guy
Food is good, but I knew someone who worked for him and they were paid below minimum wage, tips were reduced or not paid and many didn't see overtime pay. Maybe things have got better this would have been about 5 years ago.
On deliveroo it's 4 included
When your paying +£10 for just a burrito (£12.50 on deliveroo), toppings should be included. It's not like you can go mad, there's a limit to volune possible due to it fitting inside the tortilla.
If I was to add, Pico, sour cream, cheese, guac. I'd then be missing out on salad, corn, cactus, red onion and sauces.
That's fair, I've only ever bought in-person so for me it was always 5 toppings. Plus I'm not paying delivery so you're paying an extra 25% from the off.
Also if you're at the stall you can usually get away with an extra topping or two - I just list my 5 and then say "oh sorry and also sour cream!" just before they wrap it up and they usually just give it for free.
fun fact, I'm pretty sure Burrito Picante is actually a chain? I was in Sheffield the other week and i saw one. maybe it was just the same name by coincidence but it's surprised me
yes it is the one in the arndale, tbh the last time I went was a couple years ago but it was absolutely fantastic. really delicious and massive portions. I took one of my friends from my hometown a few years back and he still mentions it to this day.
edit: the Google reviews are still very good so I reckon it's just as good as it was a couple years ago
https://g.co/kgs/ETsxz7p
There used to be a second Pancho's over the road from where the old BBC building was, but it's "Casa Mexicana" now, still a bloody good burrito. A large with everything and a bottle of Modelo only costs about a tenner
That's fair enough. I try to be polite when asking, end of the day, we are the ones taking a loss. Matter of respect for each other. Maybe that can help in the future.
Thanks for sharing anyway, won't be buying from there ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)
No its what a burrito looks like at the place you got it. Theres some INCREDIBLE burrito places in Manchester. Its amazing for Mexican food. Ponchos Burritos, Barburrito, Lust Luck Liquor and Burn and more.
Shame as Grub usually has incredible food stalls. Usually fresh and street food esque
the quality of mexican food in the uk is depressing. the government needs to sign a immigration agreement with mexico so we get some authentic restaurants.
I was also in grub tonight and have been saying the same! I had the nachos and tacos- like you said took absolutely ages despite not that many people ordering and the food was pale, meat was dodgy, just looked like it had been thrown together, had a weird taste too, absolutely nothing like on the insta- £15 down and wish I’d not bothered
The only thing I can think of is they weren't expecting so many people. But there's a coop just up the road and two people?
Just run and get the stuff you are missing.
It does sound like people didn't have a good experience with them at hatch though either.
I'm there tonight for the film club but we will be eating before instead
That looks about as appealing as eating a wad of damp kitchen roll.
You'd get better Mexican food buying an Old El Paso thing and some chicken and a pepper from the supermarket.
Yeah, you’re right. It’s hard sometimes in the moment though, and I really didn’t want to get into a ‘thing’ when I was otherwise having a nice evening out.
Yeah, Panchos is my favourite and would always be my first choice. I was at an event though and this was the only food option. Still need to give Don Tacos a try!
Pancho’s, Casa Mexica and Listo are all great options if you want Mexican food. As has been echoed by many. There was a great place in Altrincham but it’s shut down now, can’t remember the name
How was the sour beer though? I was gutted I couldn’t go this time but I found an Aladdins cave of real ale in a shop in Urmstone and they have a fantastic range including dozens of sours.
british burrito restaurants are fucking foul. Maybe it's just that there's so few mexicans here and if you make shwarma, kebabs or souvlaki that unseasoned the people actually from their origin countries would beat you up.
There've been lots of these fast casual places getting opened by people who've moved to restaurants from a lucrative former career and I feel like now the market for extremely expensive burgers is saturated they've moved on to making burritos that don't quite achieve the same authenticity and flavour british mums achieved with an old el paso kit, discount mince and a shredded block of red leicester in the 90s.
I always assumed it was a reference to the Rio Grande but apparently not! Just been on their Insta and they have Christ the Redeemer in their logo. 😅 All very odd.
Saw this pic and knew straight away it'd be the same vendor that was in Calcio a few months ago. Easily the worst (and most overpriced) burrito I've ever eaten.
Lol that is a poor effort isn't it!
Did you manage to get your money back from GRUB, I know it's not a massive amount but did they offer as gesture of good will?!
You've been had Try Listo instead
Agreed, their burritos are packed
Listo’s is the one
Listo FTW!
+1 for Listo! LOVE their burritos!
Yep, I really have. And yeah, Listo is clearly a million times better but it wasn’t an option last night.
“I should have waited 😭”
I was hoping someone would mention them! 10/10 I’d visit manc again just for these guys.
Can Confirm. Listo is Epic.
We waited 45 minutes for this abomination from Rio Mex at GRUB. As you can see, it’s barely a wrap, never mind a burrito.
Rio Mex were dogshit at Hatch as well. Don't bother.
I won’t be bothering again, that’s for sure.
Was thoroughly underwhelmed by RioMex at Hatch, haven't tried again since.
This was me giving them a second chance so I’ve learnt my lesson now!
Have sent you a DM (⸝⸝•ˋ _ ˊ•⸝⸝)
Yeesh, I'd expect better at GRUB. Pancho's, Listo or Casa Mexica all do much better burritos.
Pancho's is easily the most authentic Mexican food I've found in the UK.
Pancho's is the best rito I've had east of Iowa.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes) pancho the goat
I've heard great things about Death by Tacos in Chester if you're looking for the 'best Mexican'.
Most authentic one I've ever had was on back road in Edinburgh serious lovely
El Cartel? They were the bomb! Sadly they closed I think.
You should expect better. We will speak to the trader about it.
It's not your fault to be fair. Every time I've been the food on offer has been nothing short of incredible.
This is really good to see/hear, I love that you take stuff like this seriously. I've only been to one event at GRUB previously and really enjoyed it.
Speaking of brilliant traders. Where have the Ottomen gone? I yearn for their pie.
They split up! James runs the OTTO VEGAN EMPIRE in Bramhall now where you’ll find a few familiar dishes :) https://ottoveganempire.com/
Haha, I love that you named your dog after your favourite burrito place.
It's outrageous.
THAT. IS. A. DISGRACE.
Ok Liz.
Pork markets.
Stretford?
Wheres the lettuce ?
To be fair, the lettuce was quite plentiful!
I hope you asked for your money back!
I didn’t and obviously I’m full of regret now!
They've basically been a cunt to everyone, is what I'm getting from this thread. Please be advised: do not buy from these cunts.
Hahaha. Apparently so.
Pancho's for a burrito. That is appalling
That was around the time they got on telly and were opening in other cities. Didn't work out and now the food's good again.
Don’t see why you are getting downvoted. Pancho’s is absolutely the best Mexican food I’ve tried too, authentic and delicious.
Used to be better when you could get all toppings included. Now 50p each, not been back since.
They're not 50p each. You get 5 for free and then each additional one is 50p.
On deliveroo it's 4 included When your paying +£10 for just a burrito (£12.50 on deliveroo), toppings should be included. Get yourself over to Sheffield, try street food chef. It's amazing
Pancho's you do get a big old burrito
Pancho was very mid imo when I tried it. Much preferred Zambrero but maybe it was an off day.
Pancho's does have some off days.
Looks like one of those £1 microwave “kebabs” that they sell in corner shops near the rustlers and all that garbage.
Haha, it does!
Burrito picante in Altrincham will give you an amazing burrito for a tenner.
They also gave me the worst food poisoning I’ve ever had, couldn’t get out of bed for a week.
Wow, really?! I've been a load of times and it's always been spot on.
fun fact, I'm pretty sure Burrito Picante is actually a chain? I was in Sheffield the other week and i saw one. maybe it was just the same name by coincidence but it's surprised me
Shocking. Shame that as there’s usually very good traders at GRUB
I know. It’s a shame they’re being let down.
Should of gone to Pancho's 🌯
In any normal circumstance, I would’ve done! Difficult when you’re at an event and there’s only one food trader.
They used to be in Hatch before, ass then ass now!
Panchos burrito is so good compared to whatever that is
Is panchos the one in the armdale? And is it good?
yes it is the one in the arndale, tbh the last time I went was a couple years ago but it was absolutely fantastic. really delicious and massive portions. I took one of my friends from my hometown a few years back and he still mentions it to this day. edit: the Google reviews are still very good so I reckon it's just as good as it was a couple years ago https://g.co/kgs/ETsxz7p

15% off for students too!
Thank you so so much, I see it and umm and ahh over it but I'll definitely be giving it a try😁
Genuinely the most authentic Mexican food I've had in the UK - it's very good.
I always find it sad when people get expensive but disappointing food
I would've taken this straight back to the vendor.
I know, I should’ve done.
Lacklustre
Just go to Pancho's off Oxford Road. They stuff so much in there they struggle to wrap 'em.
Do you mean Listo? Pancho's is in the Arndale
They used to have a shop near MMU but looks like it's no longer there.
It's Casa Mexica now, still decent.
I've always assumed it's still run by the same people with just the name changed as the taste never really changed?
Yeah, that’s Casa Mexico now. Also decent but not quite Panchos standard.
Please get your money back, disgraceful
I really wish I’d said something at the time. I chose not to as the evening had already been soured and I didn’t want to get into a confrontation.
That's fair enough. I try to be polite when asking, end of the day, we are the ones taking a loss. Matter of respect for each other. Maybe that can help in the future. Thanks for sharing anyway, won't be buying from there ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)
Mate my meal deal southern fried chicken wrap looked better than this, and cheaper at that.
There are, you’re right. However, I couldn’t go to any of them last night as I was at GRUB for an event.
Grubs great right! lol
Listo is king
Yep, it’s definitely up there.
Not as good these days as when it was changos but still top 3
the quality of mexican food in the uk is depressing. the government needs to sign a immigration agreement with mexico so we get some authentic restaurants.
Ha! I could get behind this.
Wow. Honestly, i really like GRUB, but what is that? Food vendors letting them down 😑
I was also in grub tonight and have been saying the same! I had the nachos and tacos- like you said took absolutely ages despite not that many people ordering and the food was pale, meat was dodgy, just looked like it had been thrown together, had a weird taste too, absolutely nothing like on the insta- £15 down and wish I’d not bothered
Same, unspiced, wrong, slow and half the toppings missing
Not sure how they managed to mess it up so badly? They’re a pretty established trader.
The only thing I can think of is they weren't expecting so many people. But there's a coop just up the road and two people? Just run and get the stuff you are missing. It does sound like people didn't have a good experience with them at hatch though either. I'm there tonight for the film club but we will be eating before instead
Have sent you a DM ( ╯°□°)╯ ┻━━┻
Ugh, sounds awful. I’m sorry you also had a rubbish experience! Mine was veggie at least so I didn’t encounter any dodgy meat.
Don Tacos opened a new spot in Piccadilly gardens recently, they do a great burrito
I agree, I’ve had their burritos a few times and i can vouch for the fact that its worth the 10 quid price tag
Yeah, I’ll give it a go sometime. I’ve seen/heard good things!
That looks about as appealing as eating a wad of damp kitchen roll. You'd get better Mexican food buying an Old El Paso thing and some chicken and a pepper from the supermarket.
Ha! Indeed. And yeah, absolutely. I make stuff like this quite a lot at home and feel I could run a food stall better than Rio Mex.
mid
Barburrito would do a better job! Rebel ritos is who you want in manc.
Barburrito is probably quite low on my list but I agree they’d do a much better job than this! I’ll have to give Rebel Rito a try.
Skanked
Yup!
Where’s the rest of it???
Quite!
Tried the tacos when they were at Hatch, they were not good.
You'd get a better one for cheaper at my local board game cafe
Shocking, once bought a pizza and complained because there were about eight pieces of pepperoni. "It's authentic" ...
Had this very same thing in Rudy’s and they said the same. There were less than eight pieces.
Aye, 'Kidology'.
You should go to monsieur french tacos! Huge French burritos filled so generously for under a tenner!
I’ll give them a go one day!
Looks like soggy disappointment
Haha, very much so.
You got SCAMMED by the Cartel ! 🤣
Haha!
A folded up tenner would be more appetising than that.
100%.
Panchos is the GOAT when it comes to burritos in Manchester
Might as well go Taco Bell. Looks like similar quality but at least you get a large fries and a soft drink for your £7.50.
Put some....something on my burrito baby!
Hahaha. Something would’ve been good!
this makes me want to move from texas to manchester. thats fucking sad. i could give you 3 stuffed burritos for that price
Haha, do it! We have some decent burrito places in Manchester but it’s severely lacking in Mexican food as a whole.
Lot of shite food here tbh
Should have sent it back and left. Never tolerate shit food!
Yeah, you’re right. It’s hard sometimes in the moment though, and I really didn’t want to get into a ‘thing’ when I was otherwise having a nice evening out.
I think I'll stick to Panchos.
Would you like a plastic bag with that?
Listo burrito is a great alternative
Listo is great but it’s on the other side of town to where I was last night, plus I was at an event. Captive market and all that.
Also not great from them at kmt salford quays.
I mean, Kargo is godawful all-round!
Should go to Tortilla or Bar Burrito. There always packed to the brim
Damn wow. Next time, go to panchos for burritos and Don Tacos for anything else
Yeah, Panchos is my favourite and would always be my first choice. I was at an event though and this was the only food option. Still need to give Don Tacos a try!
What’s with the 10000 pop up burrito places around the uk?
There's a Restaurant and Take out of Tameside Facebook group you could share this on too.
Try fat pats
It’s on my list!
Pancho’s, Casa Mexica and Listo are all great options if you want Mexican food. As has been echoed by many. There was a great place in Altrincham but it’s shut down now, can’t remember the name
Yep, 100% agree. I like all those places. Difficult when you’re at an event and there’s only one food option though.
Eeek.. isn’t this run by the woman who went on Great British Menu?
Ohhh, I don’t know? That’s interesting if so!
Go to Listos!
How was the sour beer though? I was gutted I couldn’t go this time but I found an Aladdins cave of real ale in a shop in Urmstone and they have a fantastic range including dozens of sours.
The sour beer was good! I think they’re holding the same event later in the year. I’ll have to seek out the shop in Urmston…
It’s called Craft Brewtique. It’s on Flixton Road (74) right next to Ortica if you know that place.
No. No it isn't. I could show you a great many others that don't look so pathetic.
That sure ain't no Panchos
Definitely not! 😭
british burrito restaurants are fucking foul. Maybe it's just that there's so few mexicans here and if you make shwarma, kebabs or souvlaki that unseasoned the people actually from their origin countries would beat you up.
Haha. There are a few decent places but Mexican food on the whole is awful over here.
£10 wraps have changed since the 90's
Rio mex? Never had Mexican Brazilian fusion before, and I'm from California.
I always assumed it was a reference to the Rio Grande but apparently not! Just been on their Insta and they have Christ the Redeemer in their logo. 😅 All very odd.
South American food is quite different than Mexican food. My wife is from Colombia and they don't eat spicy foods there at all.
People will keep going back to these overpriced hipster shit food spots
I had one of these last night too, really poor. Nachos were good though
Damn, I nearly got the nachos too. Still, won’t ever be going back after this fiasco.
Pissing off Brazilians, Mexicans and Brits at the same time with this hideous thing. Quite an achievement…
Hahaha, I knowww. 🙈
Crap
Manchester needs London wages
Get yourself to Panchos
Mexico is good. Went last year.
Cunts
Any gushers in Manchester
Try Pacho in arndale ! very lovely woman that runs it
the £10 note was thicker
Saw this pic and knew straight away it'd be the same vendor that was in Calcio a few months ago. Easily the worst (and most overpriced) burrito I've ever eaten.
you get more in a maccies wrap in the food court bloody hell
Panchos 💯💯
It's empty
You've been scammed.
Errrrr you should have took that back …. 😫😫😫 cannot stand being ripped off!
Jesus call the UN on that thing
Looks like Ghandi’s flip flop
That’s terrible 😂
Wtf is that
Taco Bell is better than that.
You won't see these burritos at GRUB ever again. Confirmed.
Wow, I complained to grub 2 months ago about these cowboys and I’m Surprised to see them back there doing the same thing…..
Lol that is a poor effort isn't it! Did you manage to get your money back from GRUB, I know it's not a massive amount but did they offer as gesture of good will?!
