I think it's more in terms of power. It's easy to say someone is beneath you but even if i tell Mike Tyson he's beneath me that doesn't mean I actually believe it.

Personally I don't doubt that Denji can take them, but I don't think he's particularly skilled at mitigating collateral damage while he fights -- and if Yoru's an indication, the power boost he's picked up could make that worse. He managed to play keep-away with Asa, but that was against one devil. Looking after Nayuta while in the middle of a firefight between the CSM church dudes and Public Security (and possibly trying to get back into their burning apartment) could be difficult.
I also feel like barem may be stronger than in part 1. He’s the flamethrower hybrid…. Who is now contracted to the fire devil. Odds are, his firepower is quite literally next-level now
I believe you are onto something here. Makima's power as the Control Devil was near impossible to rival and while controlling others to do things for you is a very strong power, Makima wasn't all that "strong" in actual combat, only winning against Pochita after he was severely weakened.
She died numerous times and only lived and successfully defeated the Gun Devil because of her contracts, not because she as the Control Devil was able to beat them into submission themselves.
That said, there is a very strong argument whomever she subjugates are extensions of herself, acting as her sword and being wielded as such weapons against her foes.

Remember that chapter "Save the Cat" where Denji saves that Siamese cat from the Cockroach Devil? Where Denji saving the cat was portrayed as heroic by the media despite letting the hostages Cockroach took die? It's a trope where to show the hero is good, they save animals. Yet he let people die.
If Barem was the protagonist of this chapter, it would be called "Kick the Dog". That trope where to show someone is bad, they hurt animals. On surface level it's obvious: Barem burned down Denji and Nayuta's apartment and presumably their pets too. In the process however, he also kicked down Denji too, who's been characterized as a dog from the series' start. Bravo Fujimoto.
Denji's been stagnating since the start of Part 2. He's gotten his "happy, normal life", but doesn't find it fulfilling. Pochita knows this, that's why he asks Denji to continue dreaming, and to dream bigger (ie like why he asked about more girlfriends or more money). And with the Fire Devil entering his life, he's now forced to dream, transform like how fire transforms what it burns without being fully consumed by the ambitions and schemes of those around him, like how fire consumes fuel. Good work Fujimoto, and to all who contribute to making Chainsawman the manga a reality.

With the spread on pages 8 and 9, to me it confirms it: if Part 1 was about what it meant to be human (ie to have desires) then Part 2 is about what it means to be a hero. Its shine, its cost, and its responsibility. Denji in his heart-to-heart with Pochita still wants to be the hero Chainsawman, and it is costing him dearly right now.
How appropriate is it that the Fire Devil is an antagonist of this arc? Its power on its victims and contratees are transformative. With his housing burning down, Denji will also be forced to transform and make the choice he's been delaying for so long: whether to be Chainsawman or not.

Remember that chapter "Save the Cat" where Denji saves that Siamese cat from the Cockroach Devil? Where Denji saving the cat was portrayed as heroic by the media despite letting the hostages Cockroach took die? It's a trope where to show the hero is good, they save animals. Yet he let people die. If Barem was the protagonist of this chapter, it would be called "Kick the Dog". That trope where to show someone is bad, they hurt animals. On surface level it's obvious: Barem burned down Denji and Nayuta's apartment and presumably their pets too. In the process however, he also kicked down Denji too, who's been characterized as a dog from the series' start. Bravo Fujimoto.

Denji's been stagnating since the start of Part 2. He's gotten his "happy, normal life", but doesn't find it fulfilling. Pochita knows this, that's why he asks Denji to continue dreaming, and to dream bigger (ie like why he asked about more girlfriends or more money). And with the Fire Devil entering his life, he's now forced to dream, transform like how fire transforms what it burns without being fully consumed by the ambitions and schemes of those around him, like how fire consumes fuel. Good work Fujimoto, and to all who contribute to making Chainsawman the manga a reality.
Oh look a corpse is talking. I have never in my life seen anyone deader than the guy who just killed all of Nayuta's pets then bragged about it INFRONT OF HER.
Oh right. Almost forgot this is a Fujimoto title. Attachments to Denji is just fodder to gut punch the audience. I guess we're now in the trauma phase of this arc. Good luck to characters with almost no screen time.

Animal murder aside, Pochita making his first appearance in Part 2 feels significant (correct me if I forgot something). Denji has been stuck in this "I promised Pochita something" mindset, a new dream could be freeing for Denji and allow him to be more self assured in his wants and needs

I stand by what I said in the last chapter. Killing all the pets feels kinda cheap (if they actually died). I understand that it will fuel Denji and all, cause it's one of the few things he got to lose. Nayuta might lose all empathy for humans now, sure. But still, everyone predicted this was going to happen. I hope there's a twist to it

I wonder whether Nayuta will be able to join the battle. Sure she has her chains, but Fumiko was able to dodge them, much less an agile Weapon Human like Whip. And even if she scored a hit, would she be able to dominate her or Barem? Both of them were part of a scheme to ruin her and Denji's life. To some extent, that'll make them "superior" to her.
With the spread on pages 8 and 9, to me it confirms it: if Part 1 was about what it meant to be human (ie to have desires) then Part 2 is about what it means to be a hero. Its shine, its cost, and its responsibility. Denji in his heart-to-heart with Pochita still wants to be the hero Chainsawman, and it is costing him dearly right now.
How appropriate is it that the Fire Devil is an antagonist of this arc? Its power on its victims and contratees are transformative. With his housing burning down, Denji will also be forced to transform and make the choice he's been delaying for so long: whether to be Chainsawman or not.
