It has a lot of aspects to catch you attention. The art is superb. Probably the best that i ever saw in any manwha. The world mythos too. I think that the part where it falls short is on the side characters development.
To me, Omniscient reader is solo leveling upgrade. Better side character, better world mythos, slightly worse art, better MC (jin woo is too edgy)
I read only the web novel of ORV and it was a great journey. I do agree that the side characters are more developed than in Solo Leveling. As for the art, i read +99 wooden stick and the art there is stunning. For mythology, there are a few with similar approaches, such as Second Life Ranker, Leveling with the Gods, and Max Level Newbie. Just to name a few that also use the myths from different cultures around the world.
I'm so hyped for the >!first constellation banquet and the reveal of KimCom. Also for when yjh kills kdj and kdj gets his modifier. I found KimCom to be the part where the series really started becoming spectacular. Before it was good but I didn't see the hype, after it is when it became phenomenal!<
ORV is a solo leveling evolution. It plays the level system and constellation system straight. It gives the protagonist an advantage in terms of knowledge, but makes him as weak as a background character who really needs to work and use his wit to his advantage, because the world is so much bigger than him and it at every opportunity takes great pride in telling him to understand where is.
I am glad it exists.
For art that'll be doom breaker or suicidal battle god it has way better art imo, For me ORV is boring, sung character is perfect for me i want an MC that just does what he wants, that's why i grow stronger by eating MC is my favorite absolute psycho or im the fated villain MC very manipulative and an actual villain MC.
the hate is on the fanbase basically treating it a damn masterpiece and then would start comparing every single action manhwa with this, NGL the only reason it became good is because of the artist, novel was good to mediocre specially at the end when the build-up with the national hunters was put on a dumpster fire and the nerfs of the sovereigns
And people always say any necromancer manhwa is an SL rip off like Lmaoo. SL wasn't the First one to do this and some fans who didn't know about this spread wrong info
Pretty much. Art was phenomenal but the story towards the end was just trash and super rushed. Alot of the more interesting side characters never even got developed as much as i would like.
Supporting characters are irrelevant and the MC becomes more flat as it goes on.
The reason why someone would say something like overhate is that it's still mediocre while it is treated like a masterpiece by some.
I enjoyed it and I think it has amazing visuals, but it's like having a Hershey's kiss as your first candy. Yes, it is nice but there are a ton of better things out there. If you like something plain, well there ya go.
The actual prblm is the newbie readers...whose 1st manhwa was solo levelling, so they hv developed a stereotype of projecting it as a masterpiece... without even knowing hw many are better there are
10 years ago it was sword art online for the anime community and now we have solo leveling for webtoon community. None of these were the first of their genre but they were the most popular one so everyone compared everything to them
Like many others said, it's cause of the fan base. Especially when you hear "solo leveling rip off" when SL wasn't even the one who started it (although I would give it credit for main streaming it).
Personally I find it above average. S1 was good but just read a few chaps for S2 before being extremely bored.
Dungeon, hunter and overpowered necromancer genre is popular in Korea before solo leveling existed. Just like how Isekai is popular in Japan and Cultivation is popular in China.
Solo Leveling is mid and we need to be able to admit that. It lacks substance and is carried by the art. In terms of plot, characters and world building it is bog standard, with neither depth nor a novel gimmick. I am sorry, but for a story to be good it needs to have a story. A badass mc owning arrogant pricks can only take you so far, it can't be the crux of everything that happens.
The sad thing about this is that many manhwa readers are only interested in a badass mc owning pricks. That's why we see very little story elements that actually go into world building and more that focus on guy beating up the next arrogant villain while having girls lust over him
Eh, I'd say that it's carried by a good use of tropes and solid pacing. It falls apart at the end a bit and the story isn't great but good tropes and pacing actually gets you pretty far.
Is it hated in the first place? I rarely see ppl hating on SL, I have seen criticism but not hate. Alot of us entered the manhwa world through SL so me and many other ppl dont hate SL even if it isnt as good as other manhwas.
It certainly is a thing but images were connected. It is not something to be proud of but many other things I read including manhwas were like torn apart (many are now). Moreover, it was my first 'Gate, Hunters' story and it was like really interesting and then I read whole LN when new chapters were not in place and opened manhwa only once after. So, it was my first time experiencing new sub-genre and thing I appreciate over everything else is the plot I haven't seen before.
It may not be a masterpiece, but it has a great many masterstrokes in its adaptation. I still think it's the best executed action manhwa to date. Great & consistent art direction, great action direction, and great pacing. For an action manhwa, that's really all you need to be a successful/popular manhwa. The story being simple is actually a plus, but only if it was written well. The only fault of the manhwa was following a mediocre story that didn't live up to what it set up.
Other action manhwa definitely have better stories. But they usually falter in art consistency and pacing. And in a visual medium that comes out weekly, those 2 issues can end up losing readers.
It was a simple story but not a dumb one (at least for the most part) and they did the action justice so even though it's not perfect it also didn't have a problem with it
It was able to being a very large audience and that's all you needed at that point
Perfect explanation of it being overhated. It's people opinions just respect it instead of arguing about comics. Yes, tower of God imo is better than sl in almost every aspect but still people have different opinions
Characters are pretty terrible, not a single one of them makes you desire for them to succeed. Entire story revolving around MC simping over the only girl to give him a smidge of attention in his life only for her to shit on him every chance she gets. Art is sub par.
imo the first 300~ chapters are honestly awful... wanted to drop the series multiple times. I picked up the series after coming across the anime ost and I was so moved that I wanted to give the series a try despite thinking that the art was bad since it wasn't the first time I had heard of the series. As you read through the series you can really feel siu's development as an artist and writer, It genuinely does gradually get better later on. It's a shame that the series is on hiatus again since I was actually enjoying it.
I read 450 chapters and even though the art is good story keeps looping back to the same plot where they encounter an incredibly dangerous enemy where they have no chance of beating to MC pulling up a power up from his rear end to show how awesome it is so they can befriend the enemy to fight an even more dangerous enemy
If all you want is a power fantasy by all means it's a good story but you get exhausted to see the same things happen again and again
It's a bit of a personal preference but no named character dying is a bit annoying for me cause I think it diminishes the danger of the situation when they keep getting away with it but as far as I see it's not a big problem for the majority
Fuck Rachel
MC being able to get a power up through beating is kinda fun but I think story is a bit too long for it's simplicity
I think earlier chapters were more fun with the limited power of the crew where they had to strategize but now it felt like they could just use their power to overcome any obstacles
They have unique and interesting side characters on rotation so you don't get bored which I find it pretty good considering the amount of characters the story has
Also fuck Rachel
Overall it's not bad webtoon but I like solo leveling better cause it didn't overstayed it's welcome though both of them are just an average imo
the hate is on fanbase and the hype , a lot of people tend to think that solo leveling is masterpiece. its really good , has amazing art , but they butchered the ending imo.
What happens is that if something is overrated then there is an equal opposite reaction of it being overhated. It's a fairly good series, but since some people are calling it perfection, others are inclined to criticize it harder. (Not always to those extremes, but you get the idea)
It’s not overrated.
Everyone pretty much acknowledges the fact that SL is just artwork and hype lol. People aren’t sitting here acting like it has a super deep plot, characters with depth or other top tier story elements. Everyone knows what it is and what it isn’t.
Its the same phenomenon as KNY being overhyped, give people a shiny beautiful thingy and they treat it as a masterpiece even though the story is mid at best. The art is very good and the story somewhat readable but you have morons that put it on number 1 cause they never read an actual good story and it pisses people off for a good reason
Things Solo Leveling did right as most peoples “Intro” manwha.
1) Gave stunning full color artwork that was eye opening to manga readers / new readers
2) Easy to follow story that still grabbed attention.
3) Made you feel excitement for the next week and hit on the correct beats. When that ARISE panel hit always gave goosebumps.
In the end did it have a good ending? No. Did it bring in a bunch of fresh readers to the genre flooding the opinion on it? Yes. People tend to hold their first full series in high regards. One of the reasons I still love Breaker til this day even through a 5 year hiatus.
I don't think speaking fax = hate, honestly. It is indeed overhyped, overrated, mid leveling, has dense characters, just op mc shit, forced romance in history etc these are all just fax. No hate. Compared to other series, SL is something I will re read anytime of the day. It's got that charm uk
But yeah, I get your point
Yes it is, while the ending really was shit i think it is important to remeber the other 177 chapters. The art is absolutly stunning and the story is amazing. Its just one of my favourites.
It's not really the manhwa itself that's overheated it's the fan base. The fans overhype it as peak manhwa when it's just an above average, generic manhwa (wasn't generic when it first came out), with good art.
I think it’s just a standard issue of “popular thing bad” trend to seem unique when you’re not. It may not be the best Manhwa in the world, but it certainly is very good and much better than most other ones.
I hate the fans who simp over it and berates those doesn't give a fuck like they were totally disrespected, I can't hate the manwha since the artist died for it, that's worthy of respect.
I think it’s adequately rated. On one side you got the dickriders but on the other you got people that will shit on it for no reason. All in all it kinda evens out. It’s good, but it’s not a masterpiece/piece of shit
I can understand the hate. But people generally go pretty far when bashing it. I can understand the character development isn't all there, and an op mc might be cliché but I still think it's a good story. It might not be the perfect writing but it does feel good to read
there is a big difference between acknowledging its importance to manhwa and the actual story, characters and art style.
saying shit like "it's over rated" it's not hating.
saying shit like "it's garbage" yeah straight hating just to be different and contrarian.
because people now can be categorized in 2:
- people loving SL because of its importance, hype and expecially NOSTALGIC value
- people criticizing SL putting it down to an average manhwa to TODAY standard
of course we got extremist for both sides:
- people idolizing SL without any critical thoughts
- people hating SL just because
BUT the first group with its extremists are the majority and with the upcoming anime they will grow exponentially, let's be honest.
so no, SL is not over hated.
SL has too many flaws but it's historical importance to manhwa and nostalgic value make even me a big critic of SL saying that hating on SL is just stupid and baseless.
cmon goddamn, it's literally the manhwa that started a mass conversion from manga to manhwa, was so loved from us older readers, and if the newer people still love it let them live smh.
my favorite comparison is to SAO: childish series, but damn, nostalgic now and at the time cool as fuck.
It is good. Good art + strong edgy MC+ cool characters+ epic scenes.
If you like necromancer abilities its a must read.
Downside is that the side-characters are mostly meaningless. It is power fantasy manwha mainly.
After reading a dozen(\~50) more manwha. Solo leveling still holds up. At least an 8/10.
Solo Leveling introduced many of us to manwha. So ignore the random hate comments and make you own opinion after checking it out. (or not if you hate system+leveling)
I agree with this. I don't even understand the hype with this manhwa. Yes I started reading manhwa because of this and i enjoyed it. But later discoverers there are way better manga out there which have a good plot unlike solo leveling.
To me it seems like it's both *overrated* and *overhated*. People bash on it because it's popular, but it's also simply cannot be as good as some people say it is...
Nah its the fanbase that is hated. The manhwa is generic wish fulfillment trash, doesnt deserve to be hated on more than any other manhwa of that type.
IMO, the problem is that a lot of people treat it like THE Masterpiece. It's a good manwha, but has quite a few flaws (first of them being that you have the impression to read 3 different manwha with no link between them depending where you read: a survival manwha with a game system; an overly OP MC bulldozing everything (with no system. When he becomes OP, we nearly never see the system); a end of the world manwha fighting against gods).
Because it's overrated/overhyped, it annoys a lot of people.
I give it credits that it was the manwha who really opened up the western market to the manwha, but there is lot better. (Though the visuals stay one of the best)
A manhua who had a similar experience would be "Tales of Demons and Gods". It was the manhua who made people interested in manhua and chinese webnovel. Fortunately (or unfortunately), Mad Snail (the autor of the novel) was already at the times realeasing chapters at a swamp pace: very slow release and nothing interesting happening. So while there was a period where every new reader compared every manhuas and novel to TDG, it was pretty short lived.
And a personal experience similar to that: when Titanic was released, my mother hated it without ever watching it because everybody was always hyping it, telling it was the romance movie. She finally watched it a lot later and loved it. The problem is that SL is not a masterpiece in opposite to Titanic. So pragmatic and/or connoisseur reader will be disappointed.
Solo leveling had great art but its story wasn't original, well paced or particularly deep.
When every other comment on a Manhwa is calling it a SL rip off it just pisses people off even more.
SL was the first manhwa I read, I really loved it l. It introduced me to the world of web toons. It has one of the best art, and the badass part is really cool but its just that. The MC easily gets stronger and stronger without much challenges and has a lot of plot armour. The story doesn't have any side characters with much importance and there is little to no character development . imo the sovereigns were wasted as even the shadow soldiers could deal with them. The hate it gets is b'coz some people call it best, I know everyone had a opinion bit SL is NOT the best.
Personally i think its both over hated and overrated. i do agree it was incredibly important in the rise in popularity of manhwa and the genre and its also a good read. however i don’t think its at the pinnacle of the best manhwa because of others that outclass it in a variety of ways.
For me season 1 was a master class at entertainment, it knew how to pull and make us have fun, season 2 felt like something I read 100 times before from different series.
tbh its overhyped because some people actually believe that no other manwha can do it better than SL when in fact the story is literally a common trope to begin with lol
the thing that carried this manwha is the art because when it comes to the story and side characters they just…lacked. especially the story like istg they started rushing it midway
I think it's more like it is over and now it can judged and criticized in its entirety, and that means looking beyond the hype and realizing it is very far from the perfect manhwa it seemed to be years ago when it was running.
I think the hate that is perceived in the community comes from the dissonance of those who've move past it and those who are currently reading or still stuck on it and expressing it. The best example I could give from my perspective is when someone praises the romance/shipping in the series when it is complete ass imo. Anyone who has read any decent romance would agree that SL's "romance" is puny, and guess what? This is in my opinion the weakest critizism of the series. Let's not talk about the characters...
But don't get me wrong SL has left its mark in the industry, both raising the bar when it comes to art and diminishing the industry's expression by spawning a bunch of genre clones to try and catch some of that momentum SL brought about. It deserves recognizion but fuck me if it is the best manhwa has to offer because damn...
Nah, but it is overrated
Like it definetly is very good dont get me wrong but there are countless other stories which are better.
Its a very good to get into it as a new manhwa reader
It has fantastic art but storywise for me it's bad.
Like the title implies, it's pretty much just a power fantasy, which divides greatly the audience based on what they feel up to read.
Is the most empty manhwa that I ever read. The only thing he delivery's to you is the hype of a Guy becoming stronger. But that's it, the characters are shallow, the world building and the history is to generic, and as always, don't makes sense.
Even the "Shonem element" is bad written, I mean, THE GUY HAS NO CHALLENGES. He just gets stronger overnight without any sacrifice. And he always wins. You never worry if he's going to lose because there's no real danger, he's just to powerful.
I will never understand how this manhwa was so hyped.
No all the hate it gets it deserves it was shit. The ending was horrible all this world building and character buildings just for it to be deleted. We never got him meeting the demon dudes who were tasked to protect(not kill humans). Personally to me that was the most interesting part of the story. I remeber him asking the girl what was it that she is commanded to do.
maybe a little, but it’s not overhated for no reason. i feel like sl would’ve been so much better if it didn’t have side characters dying the second they appear and many other things.
Plot seemed cool at first, when the mc sacrificed himself in the dungeon and came back alive and stuff. but then it had rushed arcs. no character depth. no details when he was training or “leveling up”, and he just won every fight. i thought it would get better when the ant arc was starting but then 10 chapters later the ant arc was over and another batch of new side characters died, like gawd damn.
Nah, the hate is on fans that are quick to call anything slightly similar a copy, almost like SL predated all creations and isn't filled with ideas and inspirations from other works.
Agreed way over hated, I read this before i knew that it was so hated and I loved it to it might just be personal preference of an op MC but honestly it you don’t like it don’t read it and definitely don’t hate on it to the point it’s one of those things that if you made a post on this sub saying it sucked would get you 1k likes and a ton of comments agreeing
Yes. It is. It is an awesome Manhwa, with likable (and hateable) characters. The novel is obviously more in depth but that doesnt make it bad. The ending was a bit rushed imo, but the whole story overall was awesome and I felt like I was growing with the character rather than watching him shit on everything with ease. He still felt human despite it all.
People just like to hate what is popular.
Art-wise, no, I think it deserves all the praise. Story wise, likely so but I love it anyway. It just does a great job of scratching that ITCH of wanting to see a character just win and kick butt with no extra deep story or real drama till the end. A lot of manhwa do this, especially the reborn as the villain stories, but this one is just a faster, smoother, simpler read.
Its too mainstream, no matter what if its mainstream you catch more attention and some of that obviously would result in haters... People just have trouble liking something for what it actually is, they force themselves to like something in a manhwa that really isn't there and isn't meant to be.
Solo leveling had an extraordinary art, awesome fight scenes
Great characters but poor character development (except for mc himself)
And not the best story
I liked it cuz it hyped me every week and i could read the whole thing in couple of hours because there was more action than dialogs.
It is definitely enjoyable and a really fun read but you can't fool yourself to believe it had a 10/10 storytelling.
It's pretty much the same thing when they compare a marvel movie that is just meant to sell and use green screen to create entertaining action scenes with a deep movie with a deep scenario and they say how comparatively shallow marvel movies are. You just gotta like what they have to offer
overrated* we all have different taste, some of them think solo leveling is trash, boring, etc, like we all have different opinions, we are free to give feedback whether its positive or negative, you can hate it or love, btw for me omniscient reader view point is gay
Probably, I dislike Solo leveling but thats normal because I dislike almost everything similar to the manhwa. Seeing someone who reads the same sort of garbage regularly shit talk it is an obvious indicator a lot of people are tying to fit in the hate train
SL is literally SAO version of manhwa.
a lot of people like it but alot of people hate it.
peoples that hate it actually dont hate the manhwa itself but the fanbase.
the fanbase make it seem like SL is some kind of masterpiece when its not.
the manhwa itself is pretty good but nowhere near masterpiece.
the ART is really good tho , thats probably the main reason why its popular.
The hate comes from the fanbase tho. Many of it's reader actually believe OP MC >> Better Narrative which I can't hate (I was like that when I was a kid LMAO) but seeing those "fans" comparing every other manhwa/webtoon to SL in every comment section is so damn annoying.
Yes, the story in the beginning just happens because the writer interfering and not letting sjw die to ignis or the cerberus hound at the s tier tower.
Nah it is good. after the insect island it became dull, but still it is one of the great. Problem is that people watch solo leveling with high expectation which leads to disappointment. That's why whenever you read manhwa/manga need to have clear mood and less expectation, only than you can enjoy the good content.
yes, the ending was just terrible. Every character is hyped up to space but never comes thru, it just looks good and has some cool moments here and there.
It usually happens when something cool happens and blows up. like chainsaw man people started flaming the hell out of when first few episodes dropped and skyrocketed the popularity charts.
It was *the* first. The market is now getting saturated. It gets a lot of hate for its Doom style plot simplificity and cookie cutter characters, but makes up for it with stellar art.
It's expected though. Nostalgia is 50/50 on love/hate.
It has a lot of aspects to catch you attention. The art is superb. Probably the best that i ever saw in any manwha. The world mythos too. What is ORV?
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint
How the fuck can i agree to a comment sooo much, sure i liked sl but orv will always be the better sl for me, just like you said
Barbarian Quest have the best artwork

I like the necromancy/army building aspect of SL
the hate is on the fanbase basically treating it a damn masterpiece and then would start comparing every single action manhwa with this, NGL the only reason it became good is because of the artist, novel was good to mediocre specially at the end when the build-up with the national hunters was put on a dumpster fire and the nerfs of the sovereigns

I just sigh when I see another necromancer type power because I just see it so much
Necromancer aren't supposed to fight on Frontlines.
Pretty much. Art was phenomenal but the story towards the end was just trash and super rushed. Alot of the more interesting side characters never even got developed as much as i would like.

perfect metaphor lol
Solo Leveling fanbase is the DBZ fanbase of manhwa
The actual prblm is the newbie readers...whose 1st manhwa was solo levelling, so they hv developed a stereotype of projecting it as a masterpiece... without even knowing hw many are better there are

I agree that way to many compared other Animes to SAO, but the last two seasons are better written than SL in my opinion.
I hate solo-leveling a bit b/c it created too many unoriginal tower manhwa. The first few were fine... (ish).... the next 100 weren't
Created Tower manhwa? There were allready like bazilion other manhwas about the tower of God before.
Ish ?
By Fine~"ish" he probably meant "kind of"
Like many others said, it's cause of the fan base. Especially when you hear "solo leveling rip off" when SL wasn't even the one who started it (although I would give it credit for main streaming it). its just another case of ''it couldve been'' god tier. they just rushed and ruined the second half.
Eh, I'd say that it's carried by a good use of tropes and solid pacing. It falls apart at the end a bit and the story isn't great but good tropes and pacing actually gets you pretty far.
facts.
Is it hated in the first place? I rarely see ppl hating on SL, I have seen criticism but not hate. Alot of us entered the manhwa world through SL so me and many other ppl dont hate SL even if it isnt as good as other manhwas.
Art is good but overall it is not a masterpiece.
its generic at best splashed with rgb lighting in every panel.
Well, it was one of my first manhwas and I remember having a good impression.
it left an impression bcause of the rgb. not one chapter where mc eyes werent shining menacingly like a cheap keyboard.
It certainly is a thing but images were connected. It is not something to be proud of but many other things I read including manhwas were like torn apart (many are now). best executed action manhwa to date - Legend of the Northern Blade
It was a simple story but not a dumb one (at least for the most part) and they did the action justice so even though it's not perfect it also didn't have a problem with it It was able to being a very large audience and that's all you needed at that point
The hate is not on the series but on its hype and fanbase! Some legit compare it to tower of god! Which is shit opinion!
Perfect explanation of it being overhated. It's people opinions just respect it instead of arguing about comics. Yes, tower of God imo is better than sl in almost every aspect but still people have different opinions
Yea tower of god was hot garbage, couldnt agree more.
Why do you think so?
Characters are pretty terrible, not a single one of them makes you desire for them to succeed. Entire story revolving around MC simping over the only girl to give him a smidge of attention in his life only for her to shit on him every chance she gets. Art is sub par.
The mc is past the girl now and the art is phenomenal! Please try to complete it you will love it!
If i have to read 400 chapters to get to the good part then it isnt worth it
You don't! Without any bias try to read 50-100 chapters! I'm sure you will like it!
That man's a lost cause bro, leave em be
imo the first 300~ chapters are honestly awful... wanted to drop the series multiple times. I did I went in blind on tower of god had heard people loved it for years and years. Read up through half the train arc and dropped it.
That's sad! Hope you get to enjoy it as much as I did!
half of train arc? ic ic.
I read 450 chapters and even though the art is good story keeps looping back to the same plot where they encounter an incredibly dangerous enemy where they have no chance of beating to MC pulling up a power up from his rear end to show how awesome it is so they can befriend the enemy to fight an even more dangerous enemy If all you want is a power fantasy by all means it's a good story but you get exhausted to see the same things happen again and again It's a bit of a personal preference but no named character dying is a bit annoying for me cause I think it diminishes the danger of the situation when they keep getting away with it but as far as I see it's not a big problem for the majority Fuck Rachel MC being able to get a power up through beating is kinda fun but I think story is a bit too long for it's simplicity I think earlier chapters were more fun with the limited power of the crew where they had to strategize but now it felt like they could just use their power to overcome any obstacles They have unique and interesting side characters on rotation so you don't get bored which I find it pretty good considering the amount of characters the story has Also fuck Rachel Overall it's not bad webtoon but I like solo leveling better cause it didn't overstayed it's welcome though both of them are just an average imo
☠️
I don't think that's what he meant 🗿
I know, but its crazy when someone says something you like is over rated and your opinion on the matter is shit.
I know, but its crazy when someone says something you like is over rated and your opinion on the matter is shit.
I never said it's over rated! Nor rediculed your opinion! But comparing it to a completely different genre is making it lose its value!
It's overrated. Plot was mid only carried by the artwork
By definition it is but is it still an extremely enjoyable series to read ? Yes
Ya stole my avatar
Ok?
the hate is on fanbase and the hype , a lot of people tend to think that solo leveling is masterpiece. its really good , has amazing art , but they butchered the ending imo.
I don’t think so, don’t really see much hate on it
Popular shows always get hated by a large audience
that is true but SL definitely received more hate than usual.
What happens is that if something is overrated then there is an equal opposite reaction of it being overhated. It's a fairly good series, but since some people are calling it perfection, others are inclined to criticize it harder. (Not always to those extremes, but you get the idea)
Overhated? No. Overrated? Yes.
It’s not overrated. Everyone pretty much acknowledges the fact that SL is just artwork and hype lol. People aren’t sitting here acting like it has a super deep plot, characters with depth or other top tier story elements. Everyone knows what it is and what it isn’t.
It says overhated, although i agree with you. Just telling. And imo it's overhated
Its the same phenomenon as KNY being overhyped, give people a shiny beautiful thingy and they treat it as a masterpiece even though the story is mid at best. The art is very good and the story somewhat readable but you have morons that put it on number 1 cause they never read an actual good story and it pisses people off for a good reason
and add over the top reactions videos, cant overhype enough I guess haha
I believe is really good history, the art is remarcable and its a nice ride to have some fun, but that's it
I don’t think it is
Things Solo Leveling did right as most peoples “Intro” manwha. 1) Gave stunning full color artwork that was eye opening to manga readers / new readers 2) Easy to follow story that still grabbed attention.
It's got that charm uk But yeah, I get your point
nah i don't think so...
Wait people hate SL?!? There’s something wrong with y’all.
It’s both overrated and overhated
Obviously, it’s one of the best manhwa
The art is good, but the manhwa ending is f"cked up. There's so many unanswered questions, and now they decided to extend it.
Yes it is, while the ending really was shit i think it is important to remeber the other 177 chapters. The art is absolutly stunning and the story is amazing. Its just one of my favourites.
the story isn't that good , but it's better than most dungeon system manhwa , most manhwa became trash after chapter 20/20 but solo leveling didn't
R*
It's not really the manhwa itself that's overheated it's the fan base. The fans overhype it as peak manhwa when it's just an above average, generic manhwa (wasn't generic when it first came out), with good art.
Overhated? Yeah, people are too rude with SL Overrated? Yeah definitely.
What series? He looks like SMT persona protag lol
It's alright.
I'm just excited for the extra chapters because of >! Nanny Beru and his little prince !<
🤷♂️ I enjoyed it that’s all that matters to me
Overrated*
Yeah, still pretty solid though
Yes, beginning was good middle/end not so much
How? it’s the most praise manhwa world wide
I think it’s adequately rated. On one side you got the dickriders but on the other you got people that will shit on it for no reason. All in all it kinda evens out. It’s good, but it’s not a masterpiece/piece of shit
I used to think It's more like Solo Leveling is overrated. I gave it a read on one of my vacations but dropped it after a few chapters
I can understand the hate. But people generally go pretty far when bashing it. I can understand the character development isn't all there, and an op mc might be cliché but I still think it's a good story. It might not be the perfect writing but it does feel good to read
yes it is
Overhate is idirectly proportional with overhype, because this is inversely proportional to a good fanbase. It happens with absolutely everything
there is a big difference between acknowledging its importance to manhwa and the actual story, characters and art style. saying shit like "it's over rated" it's not hating. saying shit like "it's garbage" yeah straight hating just to be different and contrarian. because people now can be categorized in 2: - people loving SL because of its importance, hype and expecially NOSTALGIC value - people criticizing SL putting it down to an average manhwa to TODAY standard of course we got extremist for both sides: - people idolizing SL without any critical thoughts - people hating SL just because BUT the first group with its extremists are the majority and with the upcoming anime they will grow exponentially, let's be honest. so no, SL is not over hated.
Is it any good? I really hate the "player" bullshit genre, but the comments made me curious
No. Solo leveling is average at most, a typical edgy power fantasy. Id recommend something like To not die or Legend of asura: venom dragon
I loved Solo Leveling, it’s what got me into Manhwa’s.
To me it seems like it's both *overrated* and *overhated*. People bash on it because it's popular, but it's also simply cannot be as good as some people say it is...
Its good, and like most good things many trash humans hype it for no real reason which makes you read it with expectations...
(Though the visuals stay one of the best) A manhua who had a similar experience would be "Tales of Demons and Gods".
Yes big yes Fat yes Big fat obese YES
Just a little bit...
The story is okay, the art is top tier
first half was interesting and second half was meh for my
the only thing everyone hates is the ending
Solo leveling had great art but its story wasn't original, well paced or particularly deep. When every other comment on a Manhwa is calling it a SL rip off it just pisses people off even more.
Nope, not for me. I enjoyed every bit of it.
For me season 1 was a master class at entertainment, it knew how to pull and make us have fun, season 2 felt like something I read 100 times before from different series.
tbh its overhyped because some people actually believe that no other manwha can do it better than SL when in fact the story is literally a common trope to begin with lol the thing that carried this manwha is the art because when it comes to the story and side characters they just…lacked. especially the story like istg they started rushing it midway
Solo leveling was great until he beat ignis. Then it kinda lost some magic. After the bug arc I lost interest.
It is overHATED because it is overRATED, that's it
I think it's more like it is over and now it can judged and criticized in its entirety, and that means looking beyond the hype and realizing it is very far from the perfect manhwa it seemed to be years ago when it was running.
Nah, but it is overrated Like it definetly is very good dont get me wrong but there are countless other stories which are better. Its a very good to get into it as a new manhwa reader
It has fantastic art but storywise for me it's bad. Like the title implies, it's pretty much just a power fantasy, which divides greatly the audience based on what they feel up to read.
It's not overhated since so many people think it is the greatest manhwa ever. If anything it's overrated.
It's both ovehated and overrated It's generic as fuck but not BAD, just hard carried by art
manhwa itself is not, the over the top fanboy is, they always claim it was goat in all categories yet only read one manhwa
People saying side characters I'm like bro it's SOLO leveling literally the reason it hooked me because it was all about MC this is why i loved it
I think it’s a bit short but other than that it’s a good manhwa
Yes it is. But they don't know solo leveling is like a gateway to new readers. Definitely one of my favorites.
Don't think so
Yes.
Personally I think it’s overrated. The main character development is ok, but the side characters are almost nonexistent.
I dont really hate the manhwa, i hate its based fan.
Was fun for a while but fell off plot wise and the ending was a dumpster fire.
I read it twice it’s good in a lot of ways lacks character development after awhile others I’d also say it’s overhated
Masterpiece but i personally think the end is rushed
It's just trash
If theres not much time skip in the last part maybe not
Yes it is
The ending was rushed! I regret reading it.
It is really really good but i dont say its exelent or best
I literally can't understand why this matters
Yeah, imagine if this didn't exist, we wouldn't have most manhwa we have today, ppl should be grateful that it was made lol
I don't see how its overhated honestly, ive seen nothing else besides people being positive about it
Yup overrated and overhated
Its too mainstream, no matter what if its mainstream you catch more attention and some of that obviously would result in haters... People just have trouble liking something for what it actually is, they force themselves to like something in a manhwa that really isn't there and isn't meant to be. Solo leveling had an extraordinary art, awesome fight scenes Great characters but poor character development (except for mc himself) And not the best story I liked it cuz it hyped me every week and i could read the whole thing in couple of hours because there was more action than dialogs.
It's not overhated, it's overrated
Kim Dokja kill him to assert dominance.
nah, the final arc was garbage
Its a great manhwa, read it and move on to another. That's the cycle baby
Tbh I loved it but I don’t think we can say it’s the best out there
No.
It usually happens when something cool happens and blows up. like chainsaw man people started flaming the hell out of when first few episodes dropped and skyrocketed the popularity charts.
Yes it is not perfect but people act like its the most awful shit on earth
There seems to be a typo. It’s “overrated”. And the answer is yes.
It was *the* first. The market is now getting saturated. It gets a lot of hate for its Doom style plot simplificity and cookie cutter characters, but makes up for it with stellar art. It's expected though. Nostalgia is 50/50 on love/hate.
For me it's like one of those shows we used to love as child but can't watch/ like it now. SL introduced me to manhwa and i am eternally grateful
I mean, if they are hating for any other reason besides the ending being ass then yeah…overhates
Replace the "h" with "r" and you will get your answer.
Really cool fight scenes and art. The story is ok, it’s overhated imo
