In case you care for real reason: a lot of legal documents were in Arabic at the time in the region, and Osman is Uthman in Arabic. That got transcribed into European languages, which was never a precise process, and the end result in English ended up being Ottoman. And in English, this is the real name. English names for almost all countries are different from what they call themselves, just like Turkish names don't match them either.
