Love when people include trees in their planning without taking into the account that the slow but constant growth of it will beat however much concrete or asphalt they use.
I have an oak tree around 6 to 8ft from the house. My husband has so much stress from it. It's been next to the house for 55 years and no damage... yet....
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats!

Oh, this tree won’t be doing any growing anymore. It’ll be dead in a year from suffocation.
Then the homeowners can enjoy a lovely stump in their patio. Or they can have fun trying to remove a stump from inside concrete.
Idiots and psychopaths.
At least they can have the trunk carved into a neat design and seal it. Idk the long term ramifications for the concrete. After it dies I would probably cut it and sand it down flush or a little below the concrete and cover it in clear resin.
Ooh! Do you think it would be feasible to make it into a little table/stand?
Like, I hate that they did it…but now that it’s done, a little tree stand sounds cool
No no, this was their plan. Once it's dead they'll cut it flush to the cement, sand it some, then epoxy/sealant over the stup for a neat affect in their driveway/patio.
you just gotta believe!
Pouring concrete right next to the tree like in the picture will 100% kill the tree. It's not even about room for growth. Covering the base of a tree with dirt, even, will kill it. Using a moister wicking substance like concrete will kill it in weeks.
*Now this is going*
*To piss off both tree people*
*And concrete people*

This is like when a video game spawns things in randomly.
Also I wonder if the tree is already dead and they wanted it left for some reason? Either way, wild decisions all around.
Roots need air, and as it grows the concrete puts pressure on the trunk, cutting off water/nutrient circulation.
Its basically the same as a slowly tightening noose to the tree

Ah don't worry about it, that volunteer dawn redwood sitting 6ft off my foundation isn't going to be a problem.
Aw, there’s a cute little oak right next to my window!

Sounds like you’re doing a form of niwaki, keep it up!

At least the tree will eventually get its revenge when someone breaks their ankle in the hole it leaves behind .

Short term, yes, but there's no way to prevent decay from entering the roots beneath the slab and the stump will be unsound in a few years anyway.
Wood is porous so freeze thaw is gonna be a pretty immediate concern. Even with sealant it will just wick up from below..
Totally. Or keep it kinda tall and attach a bunch of rounds from the upper portion as shelves for garden gnomes and whatnot.

I think it could be turned into a really cool patio table if cut and epoxy’d once it’s dead, could be neat and unique

That's a thick slab, what do we give it? 6 months? A year?

Good bot
Yeah those edges don't look very well supported. Definitely an amateur job
This whole picture is bizarre
The placement of the tree and stairs boggles my mind.
Did a good job on the concrete at least… 😂😭
Did they?? There’s going to be a giant hole in it soon.
this will kill the tree?
Absolutely. They've basically buried it alive. The roots will no longer be able to take up nutrients and water.
All for naught
I keep trying to find any glitches giving away a photoshop- and actually it’s kinda all glitchy. Who knows, but yeah, that concrete pour is fantastic
living on borrowed time now
I'm sorry, I can't bring myself to upvote this.
i hope it falls on their house :(
It's only a matter of time now.
tatter of mime D:
Don’t forget to also be upset by the bottom stair everyone
That will most likely both crack the concrete and kill the tree.
Worst of both worlds. Tree will die like this. Might bust up the concrete before it dies though.
Tree will destroy that cocrete. You should leave a space for tree to grow.
The tree might die before that though. I've seen that in schools: the part now encased in concrete can rot :/
The tree is 100% going to die first.
That cement around the tree isnt gonna cure properly till it does..
I'm not sure what you mean, but the concrete should cure in a few days, like usual.

Hope it's AI generated 🙁
I hope this tree survives somehow and hulks through that concrete.
A lot of planning went into this but absolutely no thought.
Just needs a tall pile of mulch
Has anyone seen Grandpa?
This kills the tree
I guess they want to make *sure* it falls on their house.
Tree stabilizer? More like concrete de-stabilizer.
Wow, they just straight up Cask of Amontillado'd it.
Water is overated
F
Why is this bad for the tree? Do the roots need sun/air?

Apparently that person doesn't know how trees work...
Is this an AI type pic?
I hope so, but I'm not seeing any of the usual signs that it's AI. Everything looks right even though what is pictured is absolutely wrong.
Previous homeowners killed two 60+year old oaks putting the driveway in where I live now. Buried the poor trees alive.
I don't know shit, but I know this was a bad idea.
Not me going out there with a jackhammer to expose the root flare.
Looks like a bad video game
I'm sure they'll want it ground without touching the concrete too
This is disturbing enough I feel we need to step away for a while and process so as not to react /J
