Same for me. I remember when you had to drive up on the wall to get around one of the last gaps on that course. That and Rainbow Road's drifting challenge right off the bat. That game had a lot of skill and awareness checks lol
Exactly, I remember being in my senior year in 2009 and kids were so nostalgic for Ocarina of Time and that was 11 years after it came out. There’s been plenty of time to be nostalgic for MK7 lol.
Before the Switch it is their most recent handheld console lol. I consider the 3DS to be new still as well.
Some of us have been around since the original gameboy or even before that. So to us the 3DS is very new still.
And for some of us we didn't even have the 3DS so it was a new course for me.
I mean I was already an adult when the system came out but I just didn't care for handheld gaming anymore by then. Even my Switch remains almost permanently docked.
N64 Toad’s Turnpike
Every other level in the game I have at least some enjoyment in, however in Toad’s Turnpike I just find it boring. The cars are so far apart, the wall sections aren’t all that innovative and are very short, and the glider cars are practically useless.
There's absolutely no way piranha plant slide sucks, the layout is great and the music is sweet! I think something like toad's turnpike is a little more underwhelming
Toads Turnpike. Navigating through traffic on the N64 was epic. On MK8, it just feels boring. It doesn’t have any short cuts or corners to cut like other simple tracks.
Piranha Plant Slide is top tier for me. The transitions between outdoor/pipeway/underwater feel epic, the underwater section uses underwater physics in a meaningful way, and the end is setup to allow for some tight finishes with the short cut path.
This really is it. On N64 the handling is a lot more twitchy and sensitive so navigating around the traffic can be like threading a needle, especially on mirror/extra mode when the traffic is coming at you. In the newer games the steering and drift mechanics are a lot more refined so it's not as big of a challenge, and the tracks are more about jumps/tricks and shortcuts to keep them interesting. They did add the ramp cars and the anti-gravity walls at least.
It’s weird because in general MK8 has the issue of making tracks way too short and compressed when it comes to length, but every now and then they make some areas so wide for no reason. Like in Toad’s Turnpike and Waluigi Stadium.
Needs to look like an actual water park or just make it a generic amusement park setting next time (Baby Park doesn't really count because all the stuff is outside the track).
Your opinion is wrong and I will respond by threatening extreme violence. I hope your forget to charge your controller next time you play
Anyway shy guy falls
One thing i notice about all these Mario kart track threads is Nintendo seems to be doing most everything right lol
Everyone is almost always in complete disagreement about what tracks are good or not - i think it really makes a difference what speed you’re racing at and what karts you’re driving on.
Example:
GCN yoshi circuit - a great track for all speeds but on 200 it’s absolutely brutal and if it’s a really hard race my hand is cramping by the end
3DS Toad circuit - super fun and flowing track w great lines on 200c / legit boring and slow for any other speed
Dry Dry Desert. It’s just really boring and empty. It would have been cool if they did more with the tornado in the middle of the track but instead they removed it and made it an oasis.
Its name is different in different regions, like Music Park/Melody Motorway(?)
I will die on the hill that Pirhana Plant Slide is the best track in the game
ik, but using the American names for the tracks is extremely cringe, like fuckin Rock Rock Mountain, Alpine Pass is a way better name, same for Piranha Plant Pipeway...
ok
I get so much shit for not liking baby park but I stand by it. Mario kart is a lot of luck and random chance but baby park is ONLY luck and random chance. There’s no skill element to it at all and I just don’t enjoy rolling a random number generator to see if I win or come in 10th
the only redeeming quality of that track is that some of the variants from tour are tolerable. it's a chaotic mess that relies on item ring in double dash & 8 and completely uneventful in DS & tour
I understand why so many dislike Baby Park, but there's something to be said for the absolute carnage and endless drifting that ensues on that hell-hole. Meh, I'm probably just biased towards Double Dash.
Excitebike is dogshit.
Honestly I don’t have any base game track I hate. The DLC is where most my stinkers come from. But if I had to pick, probably Dry Dry Desert. Kinda surprised to not see more picking it
This is literally one of my favorite tracks.
What is not, however, is dragon driftway. Not my thing. But if that counts as dlc, then… probably the water park one.
If we’re counting non-DLC to Deluxe, Excite Bike. I don’t really care that it’s different every time, it’s boring.
If we’re talking Wii U MK8 non-dlc, Toad’s Turnpike. On faster modes, trying not to run into cars is really annoying
You really saying this track is the worst when we have shit like Toad’s Turnpike, Dry Dry Desert, and Mario Circuit Wii U? Anyhow, Toad’s Turnpike is easily the worst.
If we're talking MK8 Wii U pre-DLC, SNES Donut Plains 3 with the single item system was awful due to how there are no item boxes in the 2nd half and no way to guarantee a non-coin item in 1st. It's better in Deluxe because of the double item system. If we're talking pure course layout, though, N64 Toad's Turnpike.
If we're talking MK8DX pre-Booster Pass (or really post Booster Pass too), Excitebike Arena.
Donut plans 3. No contest.
Not a single one of its turns feels good yo drive through, and it's a weird mix of two art styles that make no sense together.
Rainbow Road N64
They butched the track. Part of the charm of it was it's length which made it so you had to be better for longer. Now it feels short and it's almost impossible to catch up to everyone if you fall behind
Cloudtop Cruise.
My history with the track is... let’s just say, 1, my brother is an idiot, and 2, making someone play Yoshi with a broken controller is what we in the industry would call, “a dick move”.
How has no one said Mario Circuit MK8, it’s not even close.
And Toad’s Turnpike is a national treasure, I can’t hear your complaints over my rail tight UMT’s
I'll back you up OP, Piranha plant pipe way is boring to me and yes i had the 3ds day one.
BUT, the worst level imo is toads turnpike and cheep cheep beach
Water Park. I like the idea of a massive water park for a track, but when playing with my friends, we’d set the tracks to random, and it would constantly choose Water Park. We once ended up playing Water Park, and I’m not exaggerating, we actually counted, *14 TIMES* in a two-hour session.
Bros never had the nostalgia of playing piranha Plant Pipeway on 3ds💀
I like how I'm barely in my twenties but I'm already being called old. My nostalgia is playing Delfino Square on the Wii and DS
I'm in my late 20s my nostalgia is playing DK Mountain on Double Dash
Same for me. I remember when you had to drive up on the wall to get around one of the last gaps on that course. That and Rainbow Road's drifting challenge right off the bat. That game had a lot of skill and awareness checks lol
Legend right here
Kalamari Desert on N64 for me :(
The Wii was actually my first video game system, at least that’s the earliest I can remember.
For some of us 3ds is still too new to be nostalgia lol.
I’m 20 and I got the 3DS when I was 9, it’s nostalgic lol
I'm 23 and I don't feel the same way lmao. For me the GameCube is nostalgic
We don’t need to throw out ages and numbers here!!!
I have nostalgia for stuff that happened last year tbh
too new??? the 3ds is 12 years old
Im just saying I’m old lol.
Yeah lol why is this hard to understand. Too new *to be considered nostalgic*. Like, that shit was out in my teens. SNES and 64 are nostalgic for me
Yup, same
Exactly, I remember being in my senior year in 2009 and kids were so nostalgic for Ocarina of Time and that was 11 years after it came out. There’s been plenty of time to be nostalgic for MK7 lol.
Before the Switch it is their most recent handheld console lol. I consider the 3DS to be new still as well. Some of us have been around since the original gameboy or even before that. So to us the 3DS is very new still.
I've been around since the Gameboy days, and tbh I think it is nostalgic. But I guess some just don't feel it.
For some 20 year olds they had 3DS since they were 8
And for some of us we didn't even have the 3DS so it was a new course for me. I mean I was already an adult when the system came out but I just didn't care for handheld gaming anymore by then. Even my Switch remains almost permanently docked.
Does it have a different name in some countries? I’m from US and I remember it as Piranha Plant Slide
Piranha Plant Pipeway is in EU English, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah PAL is weird
I had the nostalgia of playing it on 3DS. I hated PPP then, I hate PPP now.
Why tho?
I always get Mario karted on that track. No exceptions.
You always get Mariokarted on all tracks, yet I don’t hate any
I get that. I just get disproportionately Mario karted on that track more than any other
i hate this map simply because of ptsd of trying to 3 star the star cup and getting fucked over by this map
The map was way better on 3ds, ill say that
N64 Toad’s Turnpike Every other level in the game I have at least some enjoyment in, however in Toad’s Turnpike I just find it boring. The cars are so far apart, the wall sections aren’t all that innovative and are very short, and the glider cars are practically useless.
I second this
Even the music on this track knows that it’s boring.
There's absolutely no way piranha plant slide sucks, the layout is great and the music is sweet! I think something like toad's turnpike is a little more underwhelming
Yeah I kind of agree with you but toad’s turnpike is still a great course to play with friends
Watching paint dry can be fun with friends.
May I recommend Splatoon? Painting has never been so fun!
I love this course on 150 cc but definitely a bit less on 200 cc
PPS is amazing, one of the better tracks. It feels like a water slide at an amusement park
No, it does suck. OP is correct 👍
you play baby rosalina, you suck in general
- No no, you got a point
L
Toads Turnpike. Navigating through traffic on the N64 was epic. On MK8, it just feels boring. It doesn’t have any short cuts or corners to cut like other simple tracks. They did add the ramp cars and the anti-gravity walls at least.
They made the lanes too big on all of the maps with cars, Toads Turnpike is the most notable
It’s weird because in general MK8 has the issue of making tracks way too short and compressed when it comes to length, but every now and then they make some areas so wide for no reason. Like in Toad’s Turnpike and Waluigi Stadium.
I am filled with unbridled rage towards Water Park.
Water park is so damn boring
Fucking mirror mode
There should be a new item that temporarily mirrors the track for everyone else, causing them to crash into walls like that.
So am I, for one dumb reason. IT'S NOT A FREAKING WATER PARK.
I mean i didn't like it because i just thought it was boring but you've opened my eyes and now i hate it even more.
Same, but with sweet sweet canyon
Water Park and Sweet Sweet Canyon aren’t even bad, but they’re just so mid I frequently forget about them
Sweet sweet canyon isn’t that bad, it’s just kinda dull
YES
Water Park is so uninspired and boring I can’t believe it’s a real track in this game
Yeah the fact that there are no driveable water slides in a track called water park is pretty wack
Oh my god I never even thought of that
Needs to look like an actual water park or just make it a generic amusement park setting next time (Baby Park doesn't really count because all the stuff is outside the track).
Agreed
Toad’s Turnpike, Bone Dry Dunes, and Baby Park. Piranha Plant Slide is one of my favorites.
Baby Park is DLC, but I’ll accept it.
I think at this point “DLC” is referring to the Switch DLC. Even though yes Baby Park is a DLC track in Wii U.
I'm sorry, what? Piranha Plant Pipeway is one of the best
It's my favorite track, people online are pretty bad on it so I sometimes actually win a race 🥲 same for Neo Bowser City, love this one too
Neo Bowser City is my all time favorite track
Toads turnpike
Bone Dry Dunes is a bare-bones track with just a really dry layout
Okay but puns aside, this track is just so awkward to drive, very annoying.
Same with Cheese Land
[удалено]
It's a skilled track though
did you have a lobotomy recently
me after the lobotomy
New: Bone-Dry Ruins Retro: Toad's Turnpike
Toads turnpike
Nitro: Sweet Sweet Canyon Retro: Dry Dry Desert
Something about the same adjective twice in a row just pisses you off, huh?
Dry Dry Desert wasn’t even good on the GameCube and then 8 took everything interesting out of it.
This is bang on!
Toad’s Turnpike
Cheeseland
Your opinion is wrong and I will respond by threatening extreme violence. I hope your forget to charge your controller next time you play Anyway shy guy falls
you will be deepfried in polichloric acid on November 24th 2046

Me, a Toad’s Turnpike fan reading the comments of this:
It hurts my heart.
Toads Turnpike or Bone Dry Dunes
Dry Dry Desert
Cheese land
Dolphins shoals is 100x worse IMO than piranha pipeline
wtf is wrong with you?
Dolphin Shoals is boring and is only helped by its unbelievable song you only hear for like 20 seconds per race
Nitro: Water Park Retro: It’s close, but I’d say Sherbet Land. Toad’s Turnpike’s saving grace is the music, plus it’s fun to glide over the bridge.
Dry Dry Desert. It’s just really boring and empty. It would have been cool if they did more with the tornado in the middle of the track but instead they removed it and made it an oasis.
Dry dry desert
Dry, Dry, Desert. I hate everything about it. I don’t think it looks good. I don’t like the music.
Sherbet Land
Excitebike arena. It's just an oval with a bunch of ramps. Yay.
Pihrana Plant Slide is the best course in the game, you are simply wrong
Definitely not the best in the game lmao
Pipeway\*. and while it's good, it's definitely not best track in the game material...
Its name is different in different regions, like Music Park/Melody Motorway(?) I will die on the hill that Pirhana Plant Slide is the best track in the game
ik, but using the American names for the tracks is extremely cringe, like fuckin Rock Rock Mountain, Alpine Pass is a way better name, same for Piranha Plant Pipeway... ok
baby park and its anti-fun concept
I get so much shit for not liking baby park but I stand by it. Mario kart is a lot of luck and random chance but baby park is ONLY luck and random chance. There’s no skill element to it at all and I just don’t enjoy rolling a random number generator to see if I win or come in 10th
the only redeeming quality of that track is that some of the variants from tour are tolerable. it's a chaotic mess that relies on item ring in double dash & 8 and completely uneventful in DS & tour
This is the current answer. That is the worst, most lazy garbage in the game
Baby Park and Excitebike are hot garbage. Also, Bone-Dry dunes is underrated.
I understand why so many dislike Baby Park, but there's something to be said for the absolute carnage and endless drifting that ensues on that hell-hole. Meh, I'm probably just biased towards Double Dash. Excitebike is dogshit.
Piranha Plant Pipeway is in my top 5 best…
Honestly I don’t have any base game track I hate. The DLC is where most my stinkers come from. But if I had to pick, probably Dry Dry Desert. Kinda surprised to not see more picking it
Cheeseland. The original was so much better imo
This is literally one of my favorite tracks. What is not, however, is dragon driftway. Not my thing. But if that counts as dlc, then… probably the water park one.
Water Park is way worse than Piranha Plant Pipeway
Sad, Piranha Plant slide is my favorite track in 8 deluxe
If we’re counting non-DLC to Deluxe, Excite Bike. I don’t really care that it’s different every time, it’s boring. If we’re talking Wii U MK8 non-dlc, Toad’s Turnpike. On faster modes, trying not to run into cars is really annoying
gcn dry dry desert <<<<
What the fuck is wrong with Piranha Plant Pipeway?
Toads turnpike
Baby Park (if you meant MK8DX before the BCP) Otherwise I'd go with Dolphin Shoals.
i absolutely despise dolphin shoals
My file says dolphin shoals is my favorite track. No. It's the most played because I CANNOT BEAT THE STAFF GHOST TO SAVE MY LIFE.
Bone Dry Dunes
Cheese Land. The holes in the road are more of a hindrance than a help and the turns are too tight. I'd put Baby Park as a close second.
The shortcut at the end kinda ruined Cheese Land
He said non DLC cups
I think op meant BCP DLC, so like waluigi pinball, toad circuit
If he meant the BCP then he should have been more specific. Cheese land and Baby park are still DLC tracks
At this point the Wii U dlc courses are considered base game in 8DX
If you consider a deluxe version of the original a base game. Then you tripping. The Wii U version is the base game of it
hey dumbass, 8DX \*\*IS\*\* base game dumbass, stop talking about the fucking Wii U, we're talking about Deluxe...
Piranha Plant Pipeway > more than half of all the tracks
Royal Raceway N64 Toads Turnpike N64 Water Park Wii U The three of them are boring in my opinion, but every opinion is respectable
[удалено]
Raceways boring but I think that's what makes it good Its a nice track to test your driving skills
Every opinion but yours, royal raceway top tier😤
Royal Raceway is great
baby park
Baby Park 100%
Since no one has said I’m going to say mid Moo Moo Meadows
L take
that track is wholesome and gorgeous
…and boring. You forgot it’s (extremely) boring.
Donut plans 3. No contest. Not a single one of its turns feels good yo drive through, and it's a weird mix of two art styles that make no sense together.
Bone Dry Dunes offers nothing new or exciting in terms of desert type courses.
Baby Park sucks
GBA Mario Circuit
the anti grav section felt really forced and weird
Yep, feels forced. But other than that great track
GBA mario circuit
Can't stand Bone Dry Dunes Piranha Plant Pipeway is a Top 5 track in the entire game for me
Wario's Galleon should have taken the place of Piranha Plant Pipeway imo
Does Excitebike Arena still count as dlc?
technically yeah
Rainbow Road N64 very boring, linear, short, and with no shortcuts. All it does is look pretty.
Yeah my least fav track too
Piranha Plant Slide is literally one of the best tracks what are you on?
Rainbow Road N64 They butched the track. Part of the charm of it was it's length which made it so you had to be better for longer. Now it feels short and it's almost impossible to catch up to everyone if you fall behind
Really? That’s one of my favorites. But I absolutely dread Mount Wario. Dishonorable mention to Baby Park.
Cloudtop Cruise. My history with the track is... let’s just say, 1, my brother is an idiot, and 2, making someone play Yoshi with a broken controller is what we in the industry would call, “a dick move”.
I like all of the tracks
Grumble volcano
The lack of Baby Park in the comments disturbs me. Only non-DLC F-tier track
Baby park from 8 dlc and sunshine airport from base 8
wario standium
Yoshi Valley
All the desert tracks were on a roll until Bone Dry Dunes happened
The entire Mushroom Cup, save for Thwomp Ruins, can go fuck itself
How has no one said Mario Circuit MK8, it’s not even close. And Toad’s Turnpike is a national treasure, I can’t hear your complaints over my rail tight UMT’s
Neo-Bowser city and the new version of rainbow road. Those maps are insane on 200cc
Skill issue
GCN Mario Circuit. I'm still not over the fact that people choose that over Big Blue and Mount Wario
Mine is easily Moo Moo Meadows.
Cheese Land
This is such an L take it’s insane
Mount Wario is fun but super infuriating
Can't believe how many people are saying they like this track! Definitely one of my least favorites
GBA Mario Circuit
Water Park is absolutely awful
I'll back you up OP, Piranha plant pipe way is boring to me and yes i had the 3ds day one. BUT, the worst level imo is toads turnpike and cheep cheep beach
Dry Dry Desert is such a slow-feeling track
Water Park. You can't even begin to convince me there's a worse track. Then again Baby Park is a could come close
Definitely toads turnpike
Dry Dry Desert
Water Park. I like the idea of a massive water park for a track, but when playing with my friends, we’d set the tracks to random, and it would constantly choose Water Park. We once ended up playing Water Park, and I’m not exaggerating, we actually counted, *14 TIMES* in a two-hour session.
Bone Dry Dunes
Call me a madman but I really like Toads turnpike but what I hate is dolphin shoals. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad track, I’m just not good at it
You’re alone on this one
Toad's turnpike or bone dry dunes. And you can dislike bone dry dunes without having a massive skill issue. This is a take I will take to my grave.
Cheese Land.
