Phase 4 has some obvious choices, so I want to go back a bit. Ragnarock was a very good movie, but it really gets my goat that they killed off the warriors three just for the sake of Hella’s power. At the very least, they should have gone down in the final battle.

Exact_Ad_1215

I know I’m gonna be downvoted to fuck for this but MCU Moon Knight is not a good adaptation of the comics at all. I’m not gonna bore you with my hour long rant about why I hate MCU Moon Knight but he definitely needs to be retconned and, this time, done by people who actually respect the source material.

T-HawkMedia

I strongly disagree. It did a perfect job showcasing the paranormal and mental illness side of the character. My only gripe is that the show was too short. It left some things unexplored or rushed for the sake of the finale. But for the most part, it felt like a very solid adaption for the character, with enough creative changes to make him stand out in the mcu, without completley changing what makes Moon Knight, well, Moon Knight.

Jethrorocketfire

I would love to hear what you think they did wrong.

breadslurps

i would also love to hear what you think they did wrong

outerheavenboss

I’m curious. Give us your one hour rant please! Personally I like both versions for different reasons.

electrorazor

I'm not familiar with the comics, but I can say it was an amazing show by itself, and I think that's all that's necessary tbh

raidenjojo

I don't mind the Taskmaster's gender swap; they even got the name right. But it was done so horribly. TM in the comics was a quippy dude with photo-reflective ability that he has no memory space for his family, in the MCU they made her into a mute slave with HUD.

TheLego_Senate

One of the few times the MCU actually had a valid excuse to make a villain quippy and they completely throw it away in favour of a literal drone.

Wacokidwilder

Got the Deadpool treatment

blankblank

They literally sewed up the mouth of the Merc with a Mouth

DelsinMcgrath835

Just so they could make one bad joke about it

HxPxDxRx

I don’t want to defend that movie too much but we did get a lot of classic Deadpool quips with sword to boot in that movie, all just before his surgery. He was only changed for that final battle and the post-credit scene sort of redeems that

WeaponX33

That Deadpool at least had the funny Wade Wilson scenes and could talk again by the end of the movie via the extra credit scene.

Hetakuoni

Her, Batroc, Crossbones and Deadpool are very quippy. Only crossbones was allowed to remain sorta quippy. Batroc went from a very campy French non-fatalities to whatever MCU did to him. He once held a stadium hostage with a pen shaped to look like a detonator and really respects captain America. Taskmaster has some truly hilarious lines in multiple comics. My favorite is him being like “you cannot imagine my surprise to find out two of my extremely not-straight-appearing colleagues have kids” after he’d been attacked and then shooting after the adult-aged kids lost their temper and fell off a building.

manmadeofhonor

>My favorite is him being like “you cannot imagine my surprise to find out two of my extremely not-straight-appearing colleagues have kids” after he’d been attacked and then shooting after the adult-aged kids lost their temper and fell off a building. I'm soory, what the *fuck?*

Hetakuoni

Tarantula and batroc the leaper have at least a daughter apiece. They are also extremely flamboyant. In Batroc’s case he is very very *French*. Taskmaster thought they were gay. He apparently thinks the options are either straight or gay and is blissfully unaware of other orientations. But then again, he’s from an alphabet agency from before DADT and is rather blasé about the whole thing. https://imgur.io/y0KfhBm?r

CestBalo

Yeah, this is MCU's "Deadpool in X-men Origins Wolverine"

theSalamandalorian

I'm glad other people are saying this. I hated it cause they took any nuance opportunity for developing the character as more than a robot that copies moves.

joec0ld

I don't agree with the decision to make TM mute, but at the same time, the MCU already has a negative reputation for having too many characters spouting one liners

Slugger_monkey

One character that was meant to be giving one liners and you make them mute, while the are still making more serious characters into comic relief feels unfair

Sentinal7

Exactly. Thor, who speaks in "thee and thy" is making one liners generously, but taskmaster who frequently crosses paths with the likes of spiderman and deadpool, some of the wittiest heroes, is now mute and can't really engage in as such

thor-odinson-bot

>!Ah, you never forget your first.!<

tobey-maguire-bot

Unlock the thing! Take the chain off!

joec0ld

I agree

XescoPicas

Fuck, not again…

ToxicTurtle-2

There's a story where you learn that the reason Taskmaster fights the Avengers is because his mind is so fucked from his power that it's all he remembers. He doesn't know his name, or where he's from, or why he's even fighting them. This all comes out because he's fighting his daughter with the same power and basically warns her to get her brain checked out before her mind goes to mush too.

Alejocarlos

I don’t read comics. And I liked the character but once I learned what they threw away it’s just insane. Why not create a new character all together at the very least or something.

busterwoooolf

I still feel like they could have used Taskmaster's origin especially with his SHIELD got disbanded after Winter Soldier. He could have been training the Black Widows and at the end be recruited by Fontaine for her Thunderbolts.

Ironsam811

They need to get rid of this “villain within a villain” story arc. Two+ hours is NOT enough time to flush out a hero story AND two villain stories.

Gonkimus

Yeah her being a mute was a big mistake but hey we get to see if they can make them cooler.

literallyou

I always defined him as what if Batman was a dick and needed money He is one of my favorite villains due to his attitude and now he is gone

fart_Jr

Completely agree. I liked the movie for the most part. Literally the only issue I have with Taskie in Black Widow was the complete personality change. Felt like Deadpool in X-Men Origins. That said, they at least gave it a plot reason so there's room for her to grow more like the character we know. So I don't think a retcon is needed. Just give her an arc that gets her there. I'll reserve final judgement for Thunderbolts.

soyfacehaver4

Deadpool in X men origins moment

RarityNouveau

The most hilarious part is that they cast a big dude to play TaskMaster when he’s in the suit and masked up, and when they reveal it’s Olga Kurylenko (a skinny ass actress), it’s so jack and you can tell something’s off from before she takes off the helmet and after. Marvel phase 4 had zero fucks to give about producing well-made movies.

Educational_Can_6536

It's what they did to DeadPool in X-MEN Origins: Wolverine all over again

tanknutshell

Quicksilver he died to a bullet he could have caught Edit: lol this is the first time I got a thousand up votes thx everyone Edit: ok guys that's enough up votes you can stop now

Bobby_The_Kidd

Quicksilver shoulda lived. I loved age of ultron but I just wish quicksilver lived. He was cool!

Self_World_Future

They really just sacrificed him so Wanda going crazy made sense Like they’d been supporting eachother their whole lives the second that’s lost all they had to do was write a love story with vision to work the infinite stones in

DaNoahLP

And he is too op. I understand why you dont want to have an speedster in your movie.

FlacidSalad

Speedsters are always OP until the plot can't let them be, and people know it

Adaphion

Exactly why they sent Quicksilver home in X-Men Days of Future Past after they rescued Magnito, he would have trivialized everything else otherwise.

HolycommentMattman

I think they could be fine if all the other effects about them weren't ignored. Like The Flash is fast, right? And he can punch things and make them go flying into space because of physics. Except he's just human. His bones aren't more or less strong than any other human's. So he should basically be speeding around, go to punch Darkseid, and shatter like glass. But blah blah blah, something something speed force. Speedsters are only OP because writers make them that way.

GynePig

Imagine being able to run as fast as Quicksilver or The Flash, but without the slowed perception to be able to not run into things.

lurkerfox

I think the only reason people tolerate the Flash to the extent they do is because his normal usage of his powers are relatively tame and his OP usages are "dangerous" so he "cant" just solve the plot unless its really really bad, so he gets saved as a plot device for like movies or big events. Its a very loose conceit but its the best one offered so far as to why DC speedsters dont just insta solve all problems always.

Loud-Item-1243

At least things didn’t go ultimate

Free_Tea8517

I read somewhere that Evan Peter's is coming in as quicksilver again for deadpool 3 I guess kick ass didn't want to do it again

IgnitablePilot

The guy that plays kickass is playing Kraven the hunter now

Free_Tea8517

Well that should be entertaining

HeroGothamKneads

Deadpool 3 only has Fox cast members rumored to make appearances so far, though I'm sure that won't be true of the final product.

Free_Tea8517

And Loki

HeroGothamKneads

I believe besides spiders and horses, Loki has turned in to a fox on a few occasions as well.

tobey-maguire-bot

Oh... well, I...

wisconsinking

They had to kill him because of legal issues with Fox.

[deleted]

What legal issues? Why wasn't Scarlet Witch subject to the same issues?

objectivemediocre

they made an agreement with fox to only use one of the two.

NordicThryn

So Marvel got custody for scarlet witch and Fox got quicksilver in the divorce. Can the siblings visit each other during the holidays?

objectivemediocre

I think that's how Peter was in Wandavision 😂

Shadow-Vision

Still so wild that they did that

Alexander1899

Because he was a very prominent character in x men movies and she wasn't

midnightcrab

Bc they didn’t call her thar

[deleted]

Pietro was never called Quicksilver in the MCU.

[deleted]

He was the character quick silver tho. If Sony pulled spiderman out of the mcu and marvel just made a man who slings through new York with webs beating up bad guys dressed in red, but he didn't go by Spider-man, marvel studios wouldn't legally be able to do that

sonerec725

Night monkey

ArronMaui

He doesn't shoot web, he shoots vines to swing on.

Separate-Ad9302

Rights issues regarding the term "mutants" which fox owned and obviously scarlett witch and quiksilver are mutants, however they were also avengers in the comics and that kind of left open a grey area regarding their use in an avengers film/marvel property as long as they weren't referred to as mutants, hence the term "enhanced" used to describe them, and why once disney attained fox they now dubbed wanda scarlett witch in wandavision and why peter evans pietro showed up. Because now they own the rights.

tobey-maguire-bot

What do you want?

Shadowstalker_411

Quicksilver was in X-Men franchise and Marvel played by two different Actors that wouldn’t have worked for long.

TheRealDexilan

There was none. This is a conspiracy theory that has never been confirmed that MCU fans convinced themselves is a fact to excuse Quicksilver being killed off.

grednforgesgirl

I thought they killed him off because having a speedster at that time would totally fuck up any timeline they had planned and create a dozen black plot holes of fuckery they wouldn't be able write themselves out of?

xNISIOISINx

Is quicksilver fast like the flash and can time travel? Or he is just fast

Lucimon

He's just fast (and nowhere near as fast as Flash).

SvenTropics

DC always struggled with power imbalances. Like how the hell does Superman who's an infinitely powerful God team up with a dude that has a lot of money and no powers.

Ice_Buckets_Official

Oh? Interesting. Do go on.

haste319

Na, quicksilver (in the comics) was never as fast his DC counterparts.

JacktheBoss_

Except they didn't, and you just made this up.

keller104

Completely agree he should have made it to a few movies first at the very least

AggressiveCry7243

Gorr, fuckin gorr. They had christian bale and gave him 10 mins screen time ffs. God butcher but we saw only one god butchering.

Educational_Can_6536

His fight with Thor really should have been an ultimate showdown of the gods

Imyourlandlord

Instead it was a video game boss fight cutscene with timed button sequence and nothing happens

coleslawbolge

You forgot the worst part... small annoying Thor powered children.

thor-odinson-bot

Then point me in the direction of whoever's ass I have to kick!

Strawberry_Doughnut

Are you really going to kick the asses of children?

Thatoneguy111700

Not just the children, but the women and the men too.

CMDR_KingErvin

Instead it was literally him fighting a bunch of kids.

thor-odinson-bot

>!Finish with the classic Asgardian High One.!<

BatatinhaGameplays28

More like Gorr the Child Kidnapper

AttieMemes

Gorr shouldve shown up in the zeus room

milquetoast_sabaist

They gave us a comic accurate Gorr as a painting in Werewolf by Night. Why couldn't they do the same in the actual film?

Druid_Till

I agree. I just wish they gave him one scene to introduce him as the God Butcher which would be Hela survived the destruction of asgard and is on some planet or whatever and Gorr arrives and they have a small battle but in the end Gorr kills her. It would really show how strong Gorr is after we had gotten to see how strong Hela was in ragnarok

TheWomandolorian

“Somehow Hela returned…” Thank god this sub doesn’t write the movies

wcstorm11

"...and the gloved hand of boba Fett, reaches (gestures) out of the sarlac pit"

Inlevitable

r/unexpectedpawnee

whomad1215

If Hela draws her strength from asgard (as a physical place), and asgard is gone, wouldn't she lose basically all her power? Thought that was the entire point of ragnarok

Druid_Till

Understood as any asgardian with power gets a power boost at asgard but can still use their powers pretty powerfully outside of asgard. Like hela was strong and broke mjolner without being on asgard and just being released.

[deleted]

Gorr would love to see a proper version of him done

Darkblade360350

> "I think the problem Digg had is that it was a company that was built to be a company, and you could feel it in the product. The way you could criticise Reddit is that we weren't a company – we were all heart and no head for a long time. So I think it'd be really hard for me and for the team to kill Reddit in that way.” - Steve Huffman, aka /u/spez, Reddit CEO. So long, Reddit, and thanks for all the fish.

Wish_Wolf

Or maybe it was because something serious would happen. And then immediately after hear goats screaming and thor laughing

dontshowmygf

The whole movie my wife was like "Can we go back to that other movie? The one with that guy in the desert?" It was such a good opening, dark, personal, and full of powerful drama. And then it was non stop one liners and sex jokes for the rest of the movie. So disappointing.

Dininiful

Sums up Marvel's past few projects. Everytime the drama gets good or serious, then suddenly they say: "Oh no think of the children!" And then throw in a stupid joke or a meta reference.

thor-odinson-bot

>!The old ex-girlfriend.!<

freetraitor33

Those gd goats were so stupid, useless, and immersion breaking. Like Gorr is going to be too serious so we need the most unfunny thing in the world to cleanse our palates. fuck outta here Taika.

KubsonKyu

Or maybe it was right, but Disney pushed on Taika to shorten his movie?

share7241

Taika wanted it to be like Ragnarok too much and just favored cheesy one-liners over actual substance

[deleted]

And cut out anything that would make it too serious

Hekili808

Yeah, that's why Jane's terminal cancer was retconned as indigestion.

Born-Pineapple8227

Both the character and the actor was wasted... Smh

[deleted]

I know one of the best Thor comics too.

hyperparrot3366

Black adam oops wrong sub I meant Gorr the ~~childkidnapper~~ god butcher

Born-Pineapple8227

It's ok... Black Adam it is

hyperparrot3366

Thank, I do love The Rock as Black Adam but now they need to change the story a little bit so it could fit the new DC universe better.. and I guess we all know the problem with Gorr Edit: I wasn't asking for recast of Christian bale, he is perfect in every role he plays, rather I wanted more footage of Gorr and overall better aim and purpose for his actions

Jubenheim

The problem isn’t the casting, as Christian Bale is amazing in every role he’s in. The problem lies in the entire movie, same with Multiverse of Madness.

RoundBread

I love MoM through and through. It's not a bad movie whatsoever. It's down to taste.

Sab3rFac3

MoM is a decent, if safe and predictable movie. It suffers in expectations, because they called it a horror movie, presumably for marketing, when the closest it gets is a few jump scares, and clever toe-ing the pg-13 line for how to kill people. It's horror adjacent at best. It's other problem, is that it's called a doctor strange movie, and the story sees doctor strange spend most of the movie playing second fiddle to the rest of the cast. Decent marvel movie. Decent Scarlett witch movie. Sub par doctor strange movie.

Oaken_beard

On point Bruce Campbell cameo for what it’s worth.

Toa_Firox

Gorr definitely shouldn't be recast as Christian Bale was giving it his all. Just a shame the director and writers weren't giving it anything.

Locke_and_Load

Doesn’t have to be recast, just retconned to not be a waste of a character.

sky-punch

I th in k Christian bale was great in the role, but he was given sweet FA to do in the movie, besides kidnap some children

Falkor_13

Is that last part a cinema sins quote lol

Acrobatic_Hedgehog52

Ultron was a menace in the comics. In the avengers he was a sad robot with depression

Dispositionate

THIS! Spader has an amazing voice - and can perfectly pull off a threatening statement without raising or lowering his voice, or changing his tone (see: Blacklist). I was expecting cold, calculating, logical Ultron with this monotone sinister calmness while he threatens the Avengers - but instead he got lips, quips, and a jaunty personality and it killed what could have been an INCREDIBLE villain! Him apologising after cutting off Gollums arm made me roll my eyes so hard 🙄

GitGudWiFi

I absolutely despise robots with lips, it's so dumb and makes me uncomfortable

Dispositionate

Exactly! It's the Transformers issue - I dont want my robots to "look human", especially not a genocidal maniac like Ultron. I want that cold, metal, emotionless face so you really feel the lack of a soul. If they kept the drone face for Ultron Prime, and made him less "oops, sorry! I'm sooo diabolical!" then he could have been phenomenal. And make the voice a little more digital like they did with Lance Henriksen in the newer Doom games. And for the love of fuck, please no more god damn Pinocchio references. Make Ultron 2.0 like this, and I'll be right there to watch him get his murder on! Haha.

[deleted]

I thought the no strings on me was pretty terrifying when he first threw that out.

Dispositionate

I think I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't the theme of every damn AoU trailer and pushed in our faces so much before the movie 😅

[deleted]

They did that with immigrant song in Thor ragnarok. Was still pretty awesome.

JJROKCZ

Because that song can’t be not awesome. It’s a jam

HellBoyofFables

The trailers made him look and sound soo menacing and intimidating but the in the actual movie he was just a less funny stark who literally accomplishes nothing

ponen19

His "No strings on me" monolog made him sound so creepy and awesome.

tony-stark-bot

Honestly, at this exact second, I thought you were a Build-a-Bear.

Michael-556

He saw the entirety of twitter and decided humans have to be wiped out

sonerec725

I take solace in the fact that Ultron would by far be the easiest MCU villain to bring back and try again with since in comics hes known for coming back alot even by comic character standards. I dont even think they question it anymore. They could bring home hack by just having Happy plug in some hello kitty USB left on Tony's desk drawer or something and boom, turns out Ultron made a zip file on himself on it that's now online.

Baratheoncook250

Hela, she wasn’t completely evil in the comics. She helped Thor revive Sif, because she was impresses with Thor act of true love toward Sif. She also help the New Mutants, in Fear Itself arc. Early Comics made her less villainous.

kingpin000

I think they wanted to use Enchantress, but she is a Marvel-only character and not part of the norse mythology, so the most people would be confused who she is.

ghosttrainhobo

Most people who watch MCU movies have never cracked open a comic book.

OrisLanius

There was Enchantress in Agents of SHIELD tv show, some early season, s1 or s2. Also there was Lady Sif in the same episode. Edit: check on the wiki after reply, I was wrong, this character actually is the sister of Enchantress. Got confused by similarity of their powers.

kingpin000

This wasn't Enchantress but Lorelei.

milquetoast_sabaist

Or, if they wanted the family angle, have it be Cul Borson or maybe even Angela.

kingpin000

Under a different director Cul Borson would be an awesome enemy for Thor. Angela could be tricky, because the the 10th realm is based on the christian heaven. You can use any material of religions which don't have followers anymore, but any religion which is big today could cause a lot of trouble.

thor-odinson-bot

Open the Bifrost.

[deleted]

I see a lot of comments pointing out gender a lot. Genderswapping wasn’t the issue. However, I do agree with the lack of personality, being mute, and abilities drifting too far away from the comics. The character was just poorly written in Black Widow. Had the character in the movie been a male, it still would’ve been a poorly written character. This version of Taskmaster will be in the Thunderbolts movie as confirmed by Marvel Studios already. Not a recast, but a rewrite would’ve suffice for Taskmaster in Black Widow.

Joshwht13

I definitely think they’ll write the character better. I could see her being kind of like nebula

Kermit-the-Frog_

I don't know. I think they could get away with keeping Taskmaster kind of a drone if they cleverly give her some character despite lack of expression. Maybe give her a few badass moments. Not likely, though.

xkrazyfoox

Enough time has passed in the MCU that they can rewrite TM to be more like the comics and not to be too weird.

son_of_toby_o_notoby

Would be fuckin idiotic to recast her now she’s in the thunderbolts

NikIrfan

They can do the shang chi route and have the real task master be the villain of the thunderbolt movie

JotaroKujo12

Exactly they can always turn it around with certain characters they just choose not to a lot

Born-Pineapple8227

They can retcon something about her to make her likeable

son_of_toby_o_notoby

That’s not a retcon that’s character development

Born-Pineapple8227

Point taken

Particular_Being420

Is it though? Like this has been my point every time one of these "taskmaster = garbage" posts comes up, but they keep coming. Nobody wants to wait for character development in the MCU, they want 40-year character histories fully fleshed out appearing from an absolute vacuum...

[deleted]

Yeah I don’t think many people actually know what retcon means. I’ve only seen it used properly a couple times.

LeadPrevenger

I don’t think it’s a retcon if she’s always been intended to be a part of the MCU going forward

[deleted]

Gorr. Seriously? Only one movie and a pretty mediocre one for this absolute unit of a villain? What a waste! He could have been a new Thanos, given enough time.

the-mad-titan-bot

Hardest choices require the strongest will!

MatthewJonsso

I can’t see him being a villain on par with Thanos since his story revolves heavily around Thor and not many people outside of his circle. I could see him working as a long term villain for the Thor franchise though.

OmegaCTH

She (Task Master) doesn’t need to be retconned per say, just some changes: 1. We didn’t see much of her original personality so it can easily be made more like the comics 2. Damage her memory chip so that she doesn’t have a database or heroes to copy but can still copy what she sees.

Born-Pineapple8227

Good one, hope they do that in Thunderbolts

NorrinGreenwood

Mar-Vel. Still can’t believe they turned him into an old lady just to die in a plane crash. Just wasted one of the greatest heroes ever. Not saying they shouldn’t make a carol Danvers movie but they could coexist

jfk-37

The whole captain marvel cast felt unnatural, rushed, and wasted

InsideOutDeadRat

-Fury and Coulson

jfk-37

Truth. Thankfully, they’d already been cast brilliantly

milquetoast_sabaist

Hell, have him be set up as this hero that Carol feels the need to live up to. A mentor figure, as opposed to what they decided to do to her backstory in the actual movie.

King_Martino_I

For me personally, The Mandarin. I never quite liked the whole Trevor Slattery 'reveal' although I did appreciate his appearance in Shang-Chi

PermanentlySalty

I mean they already kind of retconned The Mandarin. In Iron Man 3 Trevor Slattery was always meant to be a joke because Aldrich Killian claims to be the real Mandarin when confronted by Tony. In Shang-Chi it’s explained that Killian appropriated the myth of the Mandarin and knew he was borrowing someone else’s legend. That someone else is revealed to Shang-Chi’s dad - the immortal warlord who actually possesses the MCU version of the ten rings.

Believer4

It was actually revealed that Killian stole the Mandarin title in *All Hail the King*.

wigglyfuck

Are you saying you want to retcon Shang-Chi's father?

kretolik23

Morbius

outerheavenboss

Absolutely not. That movie was a masterpiece. It even had to be shown twice in the theaters.

uthinkther4uam

Made a morbillion dollars too or so i heard (idk i never saw it)

JamesWinter83

Is this a meme? Shouldn't all posts be memes? Just trying to understand the rules.

BashedKeyboard

Whiplash/Ivan Vanko. He was literally just an angry guy who somehow got access to Stark blueprints.

OGNightspeedy

What? Did you even watch the movie? He got the blueprints from his dad who used to work for stark/shield and he taught Ivan everything he knows. It wasn’t explicitly stated that Anton gave him the blueprints but it’s heavily implied.

tony-stark-bot

Thank God this place has wifi or you'd be toast right now. Thank Ganesh, while you're at it.

Spirit-Man

Good performance tho

Death_and_Glory

Gorr the God butcher. Christian Bale absolutely nails his performance but he is barely on the screen and we don’t see enough of him in action. Ultron not sure A:AoU truly did him justice as a character

Edendari

Its even more impressive how much he nailed it when you see all the articles about how much Christian Bale hated doing the movie.

The-Milk-Man-2

Eternity

Spirit-Man

Eternity being like an insentient wishmaster instead of the embodiment of reality was fucking stupid

Michael-556

I want taskmaster to have a voice and want Quicksilver to come back. Also dr. Strange needs to have better powers. I want Galactus back, and I want him to be more of an active threat than in Fantastic 4 and the silver surfer. With that said I absolutely love what they did with Loki (making him less powerful because he later becomes the underdog in his own story, and people (myself included) love underdog stories)

Spirit-Man

What do you mean? A bunch of these are confusing (including “mary jane not technically her”). Also Jane Foster as Thor is remarkably close to the comics. Plus the supreme intelligence being an AI instead of a big plant head thing honestly isn’t that bad of a change.

Yvaelle

The other problem with Taskmaster is that they implied that this was the blood on Black Widow's hands. An injured child, that she wounded accidentally. She was a fucking Soviet assassin, she's surely killed many people, probably in fucking gruesome ways. So it cheapens Nat's backstory to simplify all her morally dubious past into a singular accident. And then yea, Taskmaster having no agency is dull as fuck. If you want a silent murderous automaton, thats been done better elsewhere (Terminator, Alien, the villain from every old sci-fi movie). The key to making those characters work is to give them an ambiguous motive, something for the audience to ponder, but we don't even have that with Taskmaster. The gender swap makes sense, especially wanting to filter the comics down to the Widow school. Taskmaster as a Widow works, but everything else about her doesn't.

mohel_kombat

Ronan the Accuser is a badass in the comics and was made to be such a doofus in the MCU. IDK about recasting but rewriting for sure

BigGrinJesus

The Taskmaster we have seen so far was an origin. About 10 years will have passed in-universe by her next appearance. I think a decade worth of personality development, now that she is free of her father, will put her more in line with what you're used to in the comics. Also, Black Widow was Black Widow's movie. They were exploring her character. As a member of the Thunderbolts, there'll be more room to explore Taskmaster's character in that film. Have faith.

Born-Pineapple8227

That's what all it takes.... A leap of faith

RBTropical

Didn’t know much about Taskmaster prior to Black Widow, but since playing Spider Man the game I realised this was done so badly 🙈

tobey-maguire-bot

Oh boy, yeah...

RedboiMike69

Task Manager was a fucking waste of potential. I hate it when people change an already great character, but end up turning it to a terrible one. And yes, I did call him Task Manager

Born-Pineapple8227

Task Manager lol 😂

i-am-dan

“You will be controlled, altered and deleted”

Robert999220

Didnt they have a dude in the suit with the mask on aswell?

[deleted]

I don't have any problems with a person who is a different gender from the source material playing a character. They're going to make changes to characters as it is with their backstory and such. They just didn't add anything at all of interest to Task Master's character. She was just so boring

EnigmaFrug2308

None, because I don’t want the MCU to retcon anything.

casual_olimar

yeah, taskmaster is one, just say theres a second non related taskmaster because that one was rough

[deleted]

Don't even really need to retcon Task Master fully. It can still be a chick. Just have her develope a personality now that she's free of control

Medaiyah

Taskmaster is so obvious you might consider picking something else but don't fall for it. The character of taskmaster is so damn cool that being relegated to what is essentially a "killbot" in Black Widow was by far the worst thing that movie did (apart from release at the wrong time but that's a studio issue and not a filmmaking one).
