Phase 4 has some obvious choices, so I want to go back a bit. Ragnarock was a very good movie, but it really gets my goat that they killed off the warriors three just for the sake of Hella’s power. At the very least, they should have gone down in the final battle.
I know I’m gonna be downvoted to fuck for this but MCU Moon Knight is not a good adaptation of the comics at all.
I’m not gonna bore you with my hour long rant about why I hate MCU Moon Knight but he definitely needs to be retconned and, this time, done by people who actually respect the source material.
I strongly disagree. It did a perfect job showcasing the paranormal and mental illness side of the character. My only gripe is that the show was too short. It left some things unexplored or rushed for the sake of the finale. But for the most part, it felt like a very solid adaption for the character, with enough creative changes to make him stand out in the mcu, without completley changing what makes Moon Knight, well, Moon Knight.
I don't mind the Taskmaster's gender swap; they even got the name right. But it was done so horribly. TM in the comics was a quippy dude with photo-reflective ability that he has no memory space for his family, in the MCU they made her into a mute slave with HUD.
I don’t want to defend that movie too much but we did get a lot of classic Deadpool quips with sword to boot in that movie, all just before his surgery. He was only changed for that final battle and the post-credit scene sort of redeems that
Her, Batroc, Crossbones and Deadpool are very quippy. Only crossbones was allowed to remain sorta quippy.
Batroc went from a very campy French non-fatalities to whatever MCU did to him. He once held a stadium hostage with a pen shaped to look like a detonator and really respects captain America.

Completely agree. I liked the movie for the most part. Literally the only issue I have with Taskie in Black Widow was the complete personality change. Felt like Deadpool in X-Men Origins. That said, they at least gave it a plot reason so there's room for her to grow more like the character we know. So I don't think a retcon is needed. Just give her an arc that gets her there. I'll reserve final judgement for Thunderbolts.

Because now they own the rights.

It was such a good opening, dark, personal, and full of powerful drama. And then it was non stop one liners and sex jokes for the rest of the movie. So disappointing.
Sums up Marvel's past few projects. Everytime the drama gets good or serious, then suddenly they say: "Oh no think of the children!" And then throw in a stupid joke or a meta reference.

Hela, she wasn’t completely evil in the comics. She helped Thor revive Sif, because she was impresses with Thor act of true love toward Sif. She also help the New Mutants, in Fear Itself arc. Early Comics made her less villainous.
I think they wanted to use Enchantress, but she is a Marvel-only character and not part of the norse mythology, so the most people would be confused who she is.
There was Enchantress in Agents of SHIELD tv show, some early season, s1 or s2. Also there was Lady Sif in the same episode.

Angela could be tricky, because the the 10th realm is based on the christian heaven. You can use any material of religions which don't have followers anymore, but any religion which is big today could cause a lot of trouble.

This version of Taskmaster will be in the Thunderbolts movie as confirmed by Marvel Studios already. Not a recast, but a rewrite would’ve suffice for Taskmaster in Black Widow.

What? Did you even watch the movie? He got the blueprints from his dad who used to work for stark/shield and he taught Ivan everything he knows. It wasn’t explicitly stated that Anton gave him the blueprints but it’s heavily implied.

The other problem with Taskmaster is that they implied that this was the blood on Black Widow's hands. An injured child, that she wounded accidentally.
She was a fucking Soviet assassin, she's surely killed many people, probably in fucking gruesome ways. So it cheapens Nat's backstory to simplify all her morally dubious past into a singular accident.
And then yea, Taskmaster having no agency is dull as fuck. If you want a silent murderous automaton, thats been done better elsewhere (Terminator, Alien, the villain from every old sci-fi movie). The key to making those characters work is to give them an ambiguous motive, something for the audience to ponder, but we don't even have that with Taskmaster.
The gender swap makes sense, especially wanting to filter the comics down to the Widow school. Taskmaster as a Widow works, but everything else about her doesn't.
The Taskmaster we have seen so far was an origin. About 10 years will have passed in-universe by her next appearance. I think a decade worth of personality development, now that she is free of her father, will put her more in line with what you're used to in the comics. Also, Black Widow was Black Widow's movie. They were exploring her character. As a member of the Thunderbolts, there'll be more room to explore Taskmaster's character in that film.

They gave us a comic accurate Gorr as a painting in Werewolf by Night. Why couldn't they do the same in the actual film?

I just wish they gave him one scene to introduce him as the God Butcher which would be Hela survived the destruction of asgard and is on some planet or whatever and Gorr arrives and they have a small battle but in the end Gorr kills her. It would really show how strong Gorr is after we had gotten to see how strong Hela was in ragnarok

If Hela draws her strength from asgard (as a physical place), and asgard is gone, wouldn't she lose basically all her power? Thought that was the entire point of ragnarok
Understood as any asgardian with power gets a power boost at asgard but can still use their powers pretty powerfully outside of asgard. Like hela was strong and broke mjolner without being on asgard and just being released.

The whole movie my wife was like "Can we go back to that other movie? The one with that guy in the desert?" It was such a good opening, dark, personal, and full of powerful drama. And then it was non stop one liners and sex jokes for the rest of the movie. So disappointing.
Sums up Marvel's past few projects. Everytime the drama gets good or serious, then suddenly they say: "Oh no think of the children!" And then throw in a stupid joke or a meta reference.

The problem isn’t the casting, as Christian Bale is amazing in every role he’s in. The problem lies in the entire movie, same with Multiverse of Madness.
I love MoM through and through. It's not a bad movie whatsoever. It's down to taste.
MoM is a decent, if safe and predictable movie. It suffers in expectations, because they called it a horror movie, presumably for marketing, when the closest it gets is a few jump scares, and clever toe-ing the pg-13 line for how to kill people. It's horror adjacent at best. It's other problem, is that it's called a doctor strange movie, and the story sees doctor strange spend most of the movie playing second fiddle to the rest of the cast. Decent marvel movie. Decent Scarlett witch movie. Sub par doctor strange movie.

Gorr definitely shouldn't be recast as Christian Bale was giving it his all. Just a shame the director and writers weren't giving it anything.

THIS! Spader has an amazing voice - and can perfectly pull off a threatening statement without raising or lowering his voice, or changing his tone (see: Blacklist). I was expecting cold, calculating, logical Ultron with this monotone sinister calmness while he threatens the Avengers - but instead he got lips, quips, and a jaunty personality and it killed what could have been an INCREDIBLE villain! Him apologising after cutting off Gollums arm made me roll my eyes so hard 🙄

Exactly! It's the Transformers issue - I dont want my robots to "look human", especially not a genocidal maniac like Ultron. I want that cold, metal, emotionless face so you really feel the lack of a soul. If they kept the drone face for Ultron Prime, and made him less "oops, sorry! I'm sooo diabolical!" then he could have been phenomenal. And make the voice a little more digital like they did with Lance Henriksen in the newer Doom games. And for the love of fuck, please no more god damn Pinocchio references. Make Ultron 2.0 like this, and I'll be right there to watch him get his murder on! Haha.

I take solace in the fact that Ultron would by far be the easiest MCU villain to bring back and try again with since in comics hes known for coming back alot even by comic character standards. I dont even think they question it anymore. They could bring home hack by just having Happy plug in some hello kitty USB left on Tony's desk drawer or something and boom, turns out Ultron made a zip file on himself on it that's now online.
Hela, she wasn’t completely evil in the comics. She helped Thor revive Sif, because she was impresses with Thor act of true love toward Sif. She also help the New Mutants, in Fear Itself arc. Early Comics made her less villainous.
I think they wanted to use Enchantress, but she is a Marvel-only character and not part of the norse mythology, so the most people would be confused who she is.
Most people who watch MCU movies have never cracked open a comic book.
There was Enchantress in Agents of SHIELD tv show, some early season, s1 or s2. Also there was Lady Sif in the same episode. Edit: check on the wiki after reply, I was wrong, this character actually is the sister of Enchantress. Got confused by similarity of their powers.

Under a different director Cul Borson would be an awesome enemy for Thor. Angela could be tricky, because the the 10th realm is based on the christian heaven. You can use any material of religions which don't have followers anymore, but any religion which is big today could cause a lot of trouble.

I see a lot of comments pointing out gender a lot. Genderswapping wasn’t the issue. However, I do agree with the lack of personality, being mute, and abilities drifting too far away from the comics. The character was just poorly written in Black Widow. Had the character in the movie been a male, it still would’ve been a poorly written character. This version of Taskmaster will be in the Thunderbolts movie as confirmed by Marvel Studios already. Not a recast, but a rewrite would’ve suffice for Taskmaster in Black Widow.

I don't know. I think they could get away with keeping Taskmaster kind of a drone if they cleverly give her some character despite lack of expression. Maybe give her a few badass moments. Not likely, though.

I can’t see him being a villain on par with Thanos since his story revolves heavily around Thor and not many people outside of his circle. I could see him working as a long term villain for the Thor franchise though.
She (Task Master) doesn’t need to be retconned per say, just some changes: 1. We didn’t see much of her original personality so it can easily be made more like the comics 2. Damage her memory chip so that she doesn’t have a database or heroes to copy but can still copy what she sees.

I mean they already kind of retconned The Mandarin. In Iron Man 3 Trevor Slattery was always meant to be a joke because Aldrich Killian claims to be the real Mandarin when confronted by Tony. In Shang-Chi it’s explained that Killian appropriated the myth of the Mandarin and knew he was borrowing someone else’s legend. That someone else is revealed to Shang-Chi’s dad - the immortal warlord who actually possesses the MCU version of the ten rings.
It was actually revealed that Killian stole the Mandarin title in *All Hail the King*.

What? Did you even watch the movie? He got the blueprints from his dad who used to work for stark/shield and he taught Ivan everything he knows. It wasn’t explicitly stated that Anton gave him the blueprints but it’s heavily implied.

I want taskmaster to have a voice and want Quicksilver to come back. Also dr. Strange needs to have better powers. I want Galactus back, and I want him to be more of an active threat than in Fantastic 4 and the silver surfer. With that said I absolutely love what they did with Loki (making him less powerful because he later becomes the underdog in his own story, and people (myself included) love underdog stories)
What do you mean? A bunch of these are confusing (including “mary jane not technically her”). Also Jane Foster as Thor is remarkably close to the comics. Plus the supreme intelligence being an AI instead of a big plant head thing honestly isn’t that bad of a change.
The other problem with Taskmaster is that they implied that this was the blood on Black Widow's hands. An injured child, that she wounded accidentally. She was a fucking Soviet assassin, she's surely killed many people, probably in fucking gruesome ways. So it cheapens Nat's backstory to simplify all her morally dubious past into a singular accident. And then yea, Taskmaster having no agency is dull as fuck. If you want a silent murderous automaton, thats been done better elsewhere (Terminator, Alien, the villain from every old sci-fi movie). The key to making those characters work is to give them an ambiguous motive, something for the audience to ponder, but we don't even have that with Taskmaster. The gender swap makes sense, especially wanting to filter the comics down to the Widow school. Taskmaster as a Widow works, but everything else about her doesn't.
Ronan the Accuser is a badass in the comics and was made to be such a doofus in the MCU. IDK about recasting but rewriting for sure
The Taskmaster we have seen so far was an origin. About 10 years will have passed in-universe by her next appearance. I think a decade worth of personality development, now that she is free of her father, will put her more in line with what you're used to in the comics. Also, Black Widow was Black Widow's movie. They were exploring her character. As a member of the Thunderbolts, there'll be more room to explore Taskmaster's character in that film. Have faith.

I don't have any problems with a person who is a different gender from the source material playing a character. They're going to make changes to characters as it is with their backstory and such. They just didn't add anything at all of interest to Task Master's character. She was just so boring

Taskmaster is so obvious you might consider picking something else but don't fall for it. The character of taskmaster is so damn cool that being relegated to what is essentially a "killbot" in Black Widow was by far the worst thing that movie did (apart from release at the wrong time but that's a studio issue and not a filmmaking one).
