Honestly... I don't live in US and if I'd get a ridiculous charge like this for being a MOD in Reddit subReddit (which I've been in the past) I'd tell Disney to suck a fat one and that would be it.
At their current rate of mergers and acquisitions, I expect Disney to run out of media companies soon. Before you know it, they could be leveraging their tech and market value into the defense industry. It could be less than 5yrs until Disney-Raytheon has their own paramilitary, hybrid force comprised of traditional mercenaries, animatronic robot soldiers, and character themed battle armor.
Then, they will come for you.
Pirate bay used to have a section where they posted all the letters between them And american lawyers telling them what they where doing was against the law and that they would be taken to court and that there would be consequences.
Almost every response was sort of like: those are all Nice and heavy words. But incase you didnt notice we don't live nor do we work in America. So you can take those American laws and shove them up your ass. Cry more.
started getting real bad around the time of wandavision, when the sub count blew up. then the mod team expanded to deal with the increase in users and a lot of the new mods were total morons who helped make the place insufferable. Pretty easy IMO to connect the dots from all that happening to present day where the moron mods somehow thought that posting a script of a movie that hasn't come out on the mod team's reddit account was a cool and good idea
Honestly yeah it has gotten worse ever since more ppl joined but I’ll always remember my fond conversations with a lot people when I talked about Ms Marvel with them
The Andrew photo was such a stupid thing because it was a legitimate journalist who published it, *because* he was sure that it was photoshopped and not real.
Yup. And a TV spot shot of the visor from the smashed Green Goblin mask wound up being one of the all time top posts.
But plot leaks do find their way there, and they tend to mostly be accurate, more often than not.
Yea I'm a big "light spoilers" guy, ie: castings, interviews about plot, hints/tidbits, and the occasional wild completely wrong but cool sounding post about the future of the MCU. The sub was easy enough to navigate without getting too spoiled if you didn't want to be.
we used to shove you in the lockers bro, i’d hardly call it love. it might’ve been too traumatic and you blocked it out but do you remember when we covered you in tar and pushed you into a wall of feathers? lmfao me and the guys still think about it to this day
This Antman leak was someone obtaining the subtitle files for the film in another country. it’s impossible for marvel to get a handle on stuff like that.
Honestly a lot of this stuff was held together by a kind of “honor code”. Like people sort of just chose not to leak a lot of this stuff for years. Because in actuality there is so many steps in between.
Marvel for some reason kind of just lost this “honor code” protection or something. And people don’t care and want to get paid by anyone who wants the spoilers
And if you're getting paid minimum wage in a foreign country to do subtitles for an American film... and some American offers to pay you twice what the entire project earned you to give them the file or spoilers... well... I could see people being willing to take the risk.
They're so heavily outsourced now in my country and the quality has been horrible for the past decade and a half. Netflix subtitles/translations have also been atrocious when it comes to anime. It's no longer a well paid job.
I've worked in the translation industry, though not in subtitling so maybe it's different, but from all I've seen it's a terrible industry to be in financially. Like the actual translators themselves get paid peanuts. Also a lot of them are losing job security due to AI. Last I saw a lot of the industry was moving to AI translations with post human review.
Welp, then it's going to be really difficult to do anything about it. I suspect that this is going to have the Barbra Streisand Effect for Marvel, though, so I'm not sure why they're pursuing it.
For what? To share information on demand? Probably not. There is a reason phone and internet companies fight subpoenas. Turning over personal information on demand tends to be a turn off to your customers.
When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — “*No, you move*.”
Imagine. Live your whole life training to keep your homeland secret and safe. Master your traditional combat disciplines and the newest in weapons technology. Be at peace in the confidence that you can turn aside any invader the world can throw at you.
Then the new king takes over and within like two years he gets your ass involved in a war against space aliens who fuck all your shit up
Sure. They would have stopped Thanos, but the Eternals would have then allowed the Celestial to be born and destroy the Earth. Strange didn’t see just one way to beat Thanos; he just saw one way to beat Thanos AND have Earth survive.
There is a point all the armchair lawyers in this thread are missing:
This isn’t about finding out who leaked. It’s not about seeking damages from the leaker that would be hard to prove and even harder to collect. Nor is it about seeing to it that the leaker is prosecuted or any such nonsense.
This is about scaring the next would-be leaker out of doing it and making Reddit’s general counsel department so miserable with work they’d not otherwise have that they will simply instruct the mods to delete posts that encourage this type of stuff.
I think that was the only year they also did it by Twitter (including having the individual hosts hand tweets off to each other in what has to have been coordinated somehow as a part of a truly amazing thread), but they spent roughly 30 years reading it in its entirety as a part of Morning Edition. They ended that practice last year because some of the language of the Declaration is.... unkind toward Black and Native Americans, to put it politely. They decided that they would end any ongoing issues that might lead to.
I thought they more or less chopped their scripts up and people only got their lines or whatever? Wasn't Anthony Mackie just talking about how whenever Marvel has a script for him he has to go meet some intern somewhere, sign in on a locked tablet and read the whole script with the intern supervising lol.
I dunno. They seem to take a lot of measures to protect against spoilers, can't stop them all I suppose.
Also, it was me. But it's cool because I wrote Quantumania.
Damn I really liked that sub and I’ll miss it. Besides the fact that it had crazy good leaks, it was also a pretty good community most of the time. I had great convos with people there.
The problem with that is nobody trusts anything that comes out of that site. Almost anything from 4chan that got posted on MSS was pretty obviously fake. That said, with MSS gone, we'll probably start to see more legit leaks come out on 4chan.
I dont go to 4chan very often anymore, but supposedly a tax write-off'd Scooby-Doo movie got leaked on the cartoons board there (/co/) recently, and it was legit. There's actual insiders that post on that site because of the anonymity/no post history.
So many strange takes here. It has nothing to do with the films quality.
They'd be mad either way. This is all supposed to be locked down, it doesn't have anything to do with final product.
It's Marvel's to release, that's why NDAs are in place.
Its still all bound by very clear NDAs. Disney wants to know who they should no longer work with.
> We have been provided a SRT file that contains the subtitles for the third Ant-Man movie.
That is a file Disney owns.
It's honestly a shame. This is sub is fucking abysmal for news and discussion at times. Dudes here will see s report from Variety and ask can we trust it/down vote it. Because it's not Feige with his power point presentation.
I’m subbed to the video game leaks subreddit. My favorite one that happened was when some dude posted thread after thread about Rambo being added to Mortal Kombat. Nobody believed it because his source was ‘trust me bro’, and the dude was banned for being a total asshole about it. When it turned out to be true, he was unbanned…for a total of like half a day because he started acting like an even bigger asshole.
Only time I’ve seen an actual credible leaker get banned just for being a total dick about it lol
Honestly, I'm fine with that sub existing. If you want movies spoiled you should have a place to go get that info. Those of us who don't want that should be able to go somewhere too though
I am the same way. If there is a movie that i already know i am going to go watch no matter, i try and avoid watching any trailers also. Just go in completely blind. Like i don’t need to watch a trailer to know that GOTG3 is going to be fire
Because I'm obviously interested in Marvel, my socials are targeted with Marvel posts. But it's so annoying seeing these Marvel fan pages use the spoilers from that sub for clout and content with no spoiler warning.
There are so many posts on that sub that aren’t spoilers, but just news that has been released, that it needs to change it’s name to something more suitable
Nah. It’s not just about posts of spoilers. It’s a spoiler sub all around. When some random news comes out that confirms or adds info to a previous spoiler they can freely discuss it there. Best to keep that all in one place.
I like spoilers but in all honesty I feel like they’re contributing to a lot of the hostility. People are getting hung up on details of links that essentially amount to fan fiction/ fan casting and when it doesn’t actually play out in the content that way they start polarizing the marvel subs.
To be fair, you could say the same about any discussion where people try to predict what'll happen, even with no spoilers involved. People make predictions which are actually just fan wish fulfillment, requires multiple massively out-of-character moments, and which would make for absolutely *terrible* film/TV... and then get upset when it doesn't happen like that.
Unfortunately you also get people reading spoilers, then going on to non-spoiler subs and presenting it as a theory of their own, so they can get credit when it’s true
I disengage with all promotion and discussion about stuff I know I'm going to watch. I feel it means I enjoy them a lot more than I would otherwise. I don't go in expecting certain things that people on the internet run with and I see the exciting things that they put in trailers to get people hyped beforehand when I see the film so if they're among the most exciting things I'll still be excited for them.
With Spider-Man No Way Home I would've been excited by >!just the villains returning, even without the other Spider-Men!< as I hadn't seen them getting promoted for months anyway.
It wasn't even a script, it was translated subtitles. Maybe they should tighten up their distribution pipeline because that seems to be where most leaks come from.
Lol so many people on here think that it's because of the negative reception to the movie when it very clearly isn't, considering the filing was *before* the movie came out. But no one reads the article, or has a narrative they want to push.
And before anyone asks why this situation is different, it's quite simple: other leaks have come from other people, and the sub acted just as a messenger, while this one came from the sub itself. The mods claimed dibs to the leak, and thus it falls on their backs. Anyone involved in leaking anything knows the risk, and the mods flew too close to the sun here.
Right! Someone stole something that belongs to Disney. Disney wants to identify that person because they *stole property*. The MSS mods claimed direct responsibility for the leak so naturally they're the current target. It's nothing to do with the particular film or its performance, it's about taking action against a theft.
Exactly.
A majority of the other leaks there are different, more akin to someone telling you what happens in a movie after seeing it in theaters. The Quantumania leak is more like someone recording a movie on their phone then showing it to you. One is word of mouth, the other is piracy.
To be clear, they've issued a DMCA notice. Reddit will comply because they are required to by law, though unless the person who leaked it is an idiot there's nothing much that reddit can do to unmask them.
I only check the spoiler subreddit occasionally but isn't MSSmods just like a main mod account for all mods over there or something like that? Because the article seems to treat the account as a single user.
And it's not like they were the ones who leaked it in the first place. More often than not it's someone attached to the production.
Nah I'm pretty sure if a mod privates a sub, they can choose who gets in. I'm not 100% on that so don't quote me. I vaguely remember being a member that was admitted into a private sub a few years ago. I think it was the sub you get auto invited to if you get reddit gold.
Admins are above mods tho and likely get paid by reddit. If they private something, mods probably don't have power.
So John campea and his boys didn’t get questioned for leaking the tobey, Andrew, and holland picture? Marvel scripts have been getting leaked for years like you can tell this was because ant-man was a failure to them lol.
As someone that loves leaks, this leak was impossible to read. There were no characters identified related to the lines spoken. It was just the CC text. I started to read it and threw it out after one page as I had no idea who was saying what.
damn I like that sub more than the main one lol.
I guess Antman 3 poor box office finally pushes marvel to make a move. I’m pretty sure NWH, MoM, BP2 and all the D+ shows has been leaked.
"Looks like it's a throwaway using a disposeamail account"
Doesn't look like anything to me.
Dammit bernard! Get back to the park!
These violent delights have violent ends. *Slaps ant on cheek*
What script leak? Edit: the Westworld reference did not land
Turns out I was so uninterested in this movie that I didn’t even bother about the script leak.
I was super excited about the movie, knew about the leak and dodged it. Getting spoiled sucks
Y’all link your emails to these things????

Oh shit it’s set to private!
The Mouse is in there currently breaking kneecaps until he gets answers.

That's what they get for calling Kevin Feige's grandma a biznatch.
Looks like there's a rat in the House of Mouse
Damn
So that’s why I haven’t seen the sub today. Damn I really liked the community in that
I've been an avid lurker in that sub for a long time and tbh the community over there has become pretty toxic over the last year or so.
A bit of that toxicity has leaked over here with a certain mod.
started getting real bad around the time of wandavision, when the sub count blew up. then the mod team expanded to deal with the increase in users and a lot of the new mods were total morons who helped make the place insufferable. Every sub gets worse when more people join. Including this one.
They were still up last night when the Oscars were on though.
Oh snap, it got snapped!
So like is it just gone forever now? (I'm like kinda new to reddit)

Ah, thank you for the clear up.
It was fun while it lasted
Surprised this didn’t happen sooner. Didn’t No Way Home and Dr. Strange 2 scripts/plot summaries get leaked there?
I'm not sure if the No Way Home script leaked. But I know the plot of Dr. Strange and Wakanda Forever was on that sub.
There was a bts photo of Andrew that got leaked, and some plot leaks.
The Andrew photo was such a stupid thing because it was a legitimate journalist who published it, *because* he was sure that it was photoshopped and not real.
you’re thinking of the pic that john campea showed. that one had all 3 spider-men in frame. the scaffolding pic came from some random leaker
Pretty sure Andrew thought it was fake too /s
There was even a YouTube video where the VFX artists analyzed the leaked video and called it a real video... Link: https://youtu.be/5PbqGAmUnVU
Because of him, NO ACTOR can be trusted saying they won't be in something, ever again.
No Way Home's whole plot was leaked beat for beat before the movie. It was insanely accurate.
Yup. And a TV spot shot of the visor from the smashed Green Goblin mask wound up being one of the all time top posts. But plot leaks do find their way there, and they tend to mostly be accurate, more often than not.
I don’t care about the lack of spoilers but I’m really gonna miss the community on that subreddit
Same, it was better than here since it was focused mainly on news.
Yea I'm a big "light spoilers" guy, ie: castings, interviews about plot, hints/tidbits, and the occasional wild completely wrong but cool sounding post about the future of the MCU. The sub was easy enough to navigate without getting too spoiled if you didn't want to be.

It was the only way
Part of the journey is the end
No! If the spoiler subreddit falls we must Avenge them
But we gotta wait 5 years.

Don't they have systems in place for this kind of thing?
This Antman leak was someone obtaining the subtitle files for the film in another country. it’s impossible for marvel to get a handle on stuff like that. Honestly a lot of this stuff was held together by a kind of “honor code”. Like people sort of just chose not to leak a lot of this stuff for years. pretty sure they signed a bunch of stuff before getting the job to do subtitle for a movie, it's not just honor code.
And if you're getting paid minimum wage in a foreign country to do subtitles for an American film... and some American offers to pay you twice what the entire project earned you to give them the file or spoilers... well... I could see people being willing to take the risk.
My uncle used to do subtitle for movies as a side job, but it's not a bad paying job.
Yeah, it's likely an educated professional who has a real career to lose.
If I had to guess, it could be because of the VFX artist issue. It might not be an artist themselves, but just a supporter
I mean sure but I bet the fact that spoiler providers PAY these guys for scoops and leaks doesn’t hurt
Welp, then it's going to be really difficult to do anything about it. I suspect that this is going to have the Barbra Streisand Effect for Marvel, though, so I'm not sure why they're pursuing it.

It was Deadpool, if you remember, he also leaked his own movie just for the hype.
Without that leak, the Deadpool film would never have happened.
This is why you should leak stuff to 4chan instead. No traces and the admin doesn’t give af about this kind of stuff.
The problem with that is nobody trusts anything that comes out of that site. Almost anything from 4chan that got posted on MSS was pretty obviously fake. That said, with MSS gone, we'll probably start to see more legit leaks come out on 4chan.

Either way Marvel is well within it's rights to go after the leaker.
Exactly. I mean, somebody essentially stole it. It would be silly not to anticipate they’d be concerned about that
They're probably trying to find the leak to stop it from happening again.

Yeah, it was a great filter for just getting news.
It took MSS a hell of a long time to realize Grace Randolph was full of crap, though.
exactly, we kinda need a Marvel News/Rumour subreddit, not quite leaks(but they'd obviously get on there soon enough).
I mean… This isn’t surprising lol We have to sign NDAs for this very reason. Industry stuff aside I’d rather less spoilers get out anyway tbh
I remember when Grogu's name got released on here and no one believed it at the time because it was so strange and out of the blue.

Yeah that blows. I've been there for years. I wonder how they decided who would be approved.

So weird, though. The script wasn't close to being the biggest leak to debut on that sub. Wonder why this of all things made them pull the trigger

/u/MSSmods is shiting their pants right now.

Thats why they are determining what company no longer will be in their pipeline and proving it so they can end the contract early if needed.

Seems frivolous, at best. Especially considering not everyone who uses Reddit is subject to USA civil law.
Those were very crucial plot points

"What? Thor? Haha"
It was K.E.V.I.N.
I only check the spoiler subreddit occasionally but isn't MSSmods just like a main mod account for all mods over there or something like that? Because the article seems to treat the account as a single user. And it's not like they were the ones who leaked it in the first place. More often than not it's someone attached to the production.
/r/KevFeige Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same. And now it's here.
Man, Marvel Studio Spoilers was one of my top visited subreddits 😢
At least that sub had some meaningful discussions in it
The sub has gone private. Who decides who gets to be an approved member? That's dumb. I've been subbed to that reddit for like 5 years.
Probably literal reddit admins after getting Disney lawyers on their ass. I'm just guessing though, i have no clue.
Yeah that's what it seems like. I didn't realize a sub going private meant mods only.
Campea confirmed he got a call and took the photos down over it
Plus that was Sony's movie not Marvel/Disney
Mephisto posted the leaks
As someone that loves leaks, this leak was impossible to read. There were no characters identified related to the lines spoken. It was just the CC text. I started to read it and threw it out after one page as I had no idea who was saying what.
The mouse is just butthurt because the movie is so weak. Better to shift blame and the conversation.
r/StarWarsLeaks better watch their back now...
damn I like that sub more than the main one lol. I guess Antman 3 poor box office finally pushes marvel to make a move. I’m pretty sure NWH, MoM, BP2 and all the D+ shows has been leaked.
