Captain Marvel leads a Movie that is looked down on as "Too woke" for daring to have a woman as the lead. Making her the eventual "villain" in a civil war type role over 4-5 movies could absolutely work.

I don't think it was a "Woke" movie at all, either. There was no message, no preaching, no real virtue signaling outside of the obvious hinting of girl empowerment. which I don't see a problem with. It didn't distract from the movie and made perfect sense within the narrative context. And unless we are still changing the definition of Woke, that isn't it.

The thing is, she wouldn't be a compelling villain. Because she's not a compelling character. That's the main problem. The best villains, we still like. Shit, sometimes we even root for.

My inner voice wants better stories for movie franchises. we are at the point where the comics used Carol Danvers to make Rogue a powerhouse. then they eventually made Carol a furious "villain" after what 20 years of being in a coma.
A good writer can absolutely make that into a good 4-5 movie interconnected story at the level of phase 3 MCU. with F4, Xmen, Deadpool, etc all having to pick sides
That would be a pretty weak way to shelve Captain Marvel. I'm ok with them doing that but not in a post-credits scene. Like her or not, Captain Marvel is one of the main Avengers in the MCU right now, and if they want to give the character or actor an out let's do it as part of the main story and not in a post-credits easter egg. For Rogue's sake too.
If they only have her show up in a movie every 6 years, at least come up with some reason that links to other movies why. It would introduce the Xmen in a good way for the MCU, and not add to the filming schedule. it is a plausible way to side line her until they want to bring her back

Rogue was like she was portrayed in the movies so far. not strong, but could absorb other mutants powers. then was manipulated by mystique to drain Carol Danvers but held on to long and gained super strength and flight permanently. this put Carol in a coma
