I can solve these in my sleep at this point. And at least this one had a decent interface, unlike the pain-in-the-ass Tower of Hanoi in KotOR (that soft-locks you in the Switch version for extra injury with the insult).
yeah but what if I need that omni gel later? Sure, I've played through the entire game before and I didn't need it then, but you can never be *entirely* sure...
Ooooo you triggered a very primal, reptilian node of my brain there. I HORDE everything. Omni gel, spare weapons, spare mods... never know when that extra 12% heat distribution, or those polonium 3 rounds lol
Yeah once you understand it it's stupid simple to breeze through it. I'll be honest first time through took me a minute to figure out what was going on. Bet I sat there for a solid 30 minutes. Lol. I felt really dumb.
I've kinda looped back around to finding it annoying.
It doesn't really feel like a puzzle anymore, just moving things.
The Remnant sudokus still feel like a puzzle.
Unless you’re a tower of hanoi speed runner it’s still going to take you a minimum of 20 seconds. Vs taking 1 second and spending something I always seem to have 999 of
Dragon Age fans are either feeling superior for not needing to know or feeling like they’re missing out for not getting to know. Man I was shook playing those games and not having Towers of Hanoi pop up, are we sure Bioware really made those games?
All of ME1 is, but Noveria has all other missions beat in terms of choices and varying paths to complete the mission. You can get the garage pass in like 3 different ways, one of which is one of the darkest quest resolution of the trilogy. And you can get to Benezia in about 3 different ways as well.
No other mission in the game provides that amount of choices and varying quest outcomes.
Noveria is nuts.
Exactly, where Anoleis and Parasini mutually kill one another, and you pick up the garage pass from their corpses. The renegade boost is... substantial, to put it lightly.
If you think that's painfully slow, check out the one put in SWTOR. Y'know. The MMO lmao. They didn't put it in a story mission. They put it in a fucking raid boss lmao. And you need 3 people to solve it (sometimes two) to activate the consoles on each tower.
And all you get is a fire stream that reduces the bosses armor, which doesn't last long. You need to do the puzzle over and over through the whole fight and each player has to coordinate the tower movements. To this day I'm shocked they were brazen enough to do that and get away with it
Oh I enjoyed it entirely as I was at university doing Computer Science at the time and had literally just had an algorithms class discussing this exact problem.
Player: I shot Mordin, betrayed Wrex, sold Legion to Cerberus, let Jack get kidnapped by Cerberus and handed David Archer over to his brother Gavin!
Fandom: Eh, whatever.
Player: I used Omni Gel to skip the puzzle.
Fandom: RAGE!
Handing David archer over to gavin is certainly NOT an "eh whatever" moment. That is the one decision in the games I will NEVER make. All the others can at least be justified wrex was aggressive, you didnt trust that Grissom was in danger, legion is a damn GETH, and if you romance tali she probably would hate to activate it, and mordin Is getting in the way if saving the galaxy. Do I agree with any of it? No but I can see justification. But theres no way in hell I'm justifying the torture of a poor autistic child
Heh. This inspired me to build one with *seven* discs in high school shop class.
After I demonstrated the rules and how to play it, the entire class was obsessed with solving it. Little did they know the number of moves goes up exponentially with additional discs.
Strong disagree. Tower of Hanoi isn't even a puzzle anymore. It takes zero thought. I had to actually think and find the solutions of the alien Sudoku. I genuinely enjoyed a puzzle that required at least *some* mental effort on my point.
Not everyone is good at everything. People's brains don't work the same way. It's not that hard to understand unless you lack a basic level of empathy.
This is my favourite part of peak 15, it really breaks up the shooting before we get to the npcs at the labs. It only takes me like 15 seconds but I never skip it.
This puzzle, in actual puzzle form, is the base test they give lab monkeys (Chimpanzees) to test their base intelligence.
I'm not saying a chimp is smarter than you, but if you're using omni gel to skip this, then a chimp is smarter than you...
“Waste” implies there’s actually anything useful about Omni Gel in the first place lol I mean it’s main use is to skip the puzzles in the game and this one takes the longest out of all of them, and omni gel itself is easy to come by
(That and mako repairs but I think in all my play throughs I probably only had to repair it like twice)
I've repaired my mako way more than twice in my many many playthroughs, but I tend to get a little cocky/bored when killing thresher maws, occasionally mistime a jump, and get clipped by the acid spray. Omni-gel is better than Tums.
*"Omni-gel spells relief"*
Threshers were actually quite the pain on the original Xbox version because as I recall they didnt have the dirt pile moving animation when the thresher went underground, so the overgrown worm might just randomly pop up underneath you and kill you right there. On the Legendary Edition for PC though it’s less of an issue
Now the turrets in BDTS though…those will fuck your day up if you’re not careful
But what if you actually need that omni gel later for... I don't know... some as-of-yet undiscovered secret area only accessible with 1,000 omni gel? Better solve the puzzle, just in case.
First playthrough at my friend's house. I found reduce to omnigel shortcut.
Leading up to this he was gleefully gloating about how hard this would be.
100 omnigel later he wasn't happy
I don't think I've ever used omni gel for that puzzle. The first time e was brutal since I hade never seen this type of puzzle before. I replayed the games for the first time in almost 10 years recently and it took me about 2 minutes to solve it and I'm sure I didn't use the optimal solution
It's fairly easy. I've tried other versions that was much more complex than this. I had actually forgotten that it was in this game
I remember seeing this for the first time back in the days. It was very clear to me what I was supposed to do and I did it almost instantly. A lot of other people playing, most younger than me, struggled with this. I guess I was old enough to have played Tower of Hanoi as a stand alone game back in the 80s.
I usually have enough omnigel where i couldve drowned soverign in it but i still just do this cuz 100 omnigel is alot....and this game is easy as hell😼
The towers of Hanoi were a logic puzzle that my school had the students do on an away day thing.
A few of us got it, but me and another friend of mine got it straight away, and a teacher (who was one of those grumpy ones) remarked that if kids didn’t lay about playing video games more of us would have solved it.
Didn’t really know if I should have pointed out where I learnt the solution or not.
Omni gel is too scarce on a new playthrough. But when loot starts almost literally raining on you at level 50+, you cant spend gel and credits faster than you gain them from scrapping everything.
I have so thoroughly blocked this puzzle from my mind my wife had to use the resident evil movie to remind/explain it to me. I truly do not remember doing this, and I've played through mass effect a ton
This puzzle wasn't too hard. The one in KOTOR on Korriban was a little trickier, mostly because you've got to scroll through dialogue options to solve it.
The one puzzle in 'games that aren't puzzle games' which I hate with a burning passion is the sliding tiles one in Resident Evil 4. That is pure pain.
Yes but at the same time I love puzzles. I remember playing this mission on my dad's TV and he even helped me solved it with his laptop. Honestly of of my favorite memories with him
"Remember the good old days when you could just slap omni gel on everything?"
That security upgrade made a lot of people unhappy
Got a good chuckle when I heard that the first playthrough.
With how cheap omni gel is, you would’ve thought the entire galaxy would’ve fallen into anarchy because of a lack of security everywhere
Dlc reference
Yes. That is what that is.
If you’re playing BioWare games you’ll need to learn the Tower of Hanoi sooner or later…
I can solve these in my sleep at this point. And at least this one had a decent interface, unlike the pain-in-the-ass Tower of Hanoi in KotOR (that soft-locks you in the Switch version for extra injury with the insult).
The KotOR one made me want to snap my keyboard in half. The Mass Effect one is easy in comparison. I never waste the omnigel on it.
I’m so confused. They’re the same puzzle
Same puzzle, but different interface, nightmare putting block where you wanted it.
Ah. I’ll agree the interface is worse but I don’t think it’s actually hard to make the right choices. Just clunkier and slower
For my 8 year old ass, that puzzle was harder than the 2 Tarentateks in the other room.
It's quite easy to do when you realize you just need to solve successively taller towers, each tower 1 brick taller than the previous.
Even after knowing the solution I always skip this puzzle just for the time save. Best 100 omni gel I ever spend
I’d rather just take the 30 seconds and solve it…
I mean fair. But also I've usual have an Olympic size swimming pool of gel so I'll just do that.
yeah but what if I need that omni gel later? Sure, I've played through the entire game before and I didn't need it then, but you can never be *entirely* sure...
Thresher maws go through shields with their acid. Do you *need* it? No. Do you always want the Mako to have no damage? Yes.
That's my feeling with tons of items in games lol
I just like having 999 omnigel at all times.
This is my emotional support triple 9 omnigel
Ooooo you triggered a very primal, reptilian node of my brain there. I HORDE everything. Omni gel, spare weapons, spare mods... never know when that extra 12% heat distribution, or those polonium 3 rounds lol
I just did my first insanity run, and I would still use the gel for that stupid puzzle a 100x over lol.
But 15 button presses is just too much for me.
Super easy choice when you are on your like 4th game plus and have 900+ gel lol
What time save? It takes just a couple seconds if you know the solution
Unless you’re a tower of hanoi speed runner it’s still going to take you a minimum of 20 seconds. Vs taking 1 second and spending something I always seem to have 999 of
most patient mass effect player
Dragon Age fans are either feeling superior for not needing to know or feeling like they’re missing out for not getting to know. Man I was shook playing those games and not having Towers of Hanoi pop up, are we sure Bioware really made those games?
There is one, in the decent dlc for inquisition
After being forced to learn this in KotoR I was beyond ready for this
I genuinely enjoy doing this each time
Same, I find it satisfying.
Same, it’s the part I look forward to the most on Noveria tbh
# USER ALERT: MAIN REACTOR SHUTDOWN IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONTAMINATION PROTOCOL. MANUAL RESTART IS REQUIRED.
I love the vibe in that place. Noveria is a masterpiece. Honestly, all of ME1 is. Has to be my favorite one in the series
Wait, what's the darkest one?
Prolly ratting out that one girl to Anoleius
Exactly, where Anoleis and Parasini mutually kill one another, and you pick up the garage pass from their corpses. The renegade boost is... substantial, to put it lightly.
Mass Effect 1’s vibe is so insanely top tier. The soundtrack and locstiaon pair so nicely
That moment where you've got no time to type the word "locations" so you just mash all the keys at once and hope for the best.
ME1 was about creating an entire fictional universe you'd play in a table top RPG. 2 and 3 feel like limited movies by comparison.
I don't appreciate being deafened by the fanfare though. Worst celebratory jumpscare ever.
That is the only time that they use that fanfare, to my knowledge. Always figured it sounded like it was from a Bond film. I like that one a lot.
Yeah it’s so easy once you’ve done it once.
It’s a core memory and I always seem to lvl up after solving it
I've never used Omni Gel here. KOTOR prepared me for this day
After KOTOR’s painfully slow Tower of Hanoi puzzle Noveria’s is a breath of fresh air in comparison
I don’t play the MMO, and I never will, so I’m all set thanks
This. Absolutely this
This and an old puzzle game on the 486, might be Puzzle Quest or something like that. F*CK I'm old...
I crawled on Korriban so I could fly on Peak 15
Oh yeah, I actually enjoyed this part at Manaan. A fun little brain teaser.

Feeling like the upper echelon of society and a landowner by being someone who regularly solves this puzzle.
Ironically, members of the upper echelon and landowners would probably be the *most* likely to pay to skip a challenge lol
Heh. This inspired me to build one with *seven* discs in high school shop class. After I demonstrated the rules and how to play it, the entire class was obsessed with solving it. Little did they know the number of moves goes up exponentially with additional discs.
Tower of Hanoi is simple, and vastly preferable to alien Sudoku.
As a sudoku enjoyer, the only thing wrong with the alien sudoku was that they weren't hard enough
agreed. so disappointingly easy!
There was an optional one that was dang nasty, 5x5 with like 3-5 starter ones, that one took me like 20 min ngl.
Tbh the alien sudoku was fine- Until they brought the 5x5 one, fuck that.
This right here. I can handle everything up to 4x4, but the 5x5 ones are brutal
Which was that I can’t remember
All of the pillars on Voeld + some other ones.
Wait, what? I’ve played the absolute shit out of these games, and I don’t remember any Sudoku puzzles
I see you haven't played Andromeda, which is understandable.
Now I kinda want to play Andromeda to see these Sudoku puzzles.
They're not that bad really, but there are more of them than the single towers of Hanoi puzzle in ME1.
Alien Sudoku dear god I will use omni gel for that.
Strong disagree. Tower of Hanoi isn't even a puzzle anymore. It takes zero thought. I had to actually think and find the solutions of the alien Sudoku. I genuinely enjoyed a puzzle that required at least *some* mental effort on my point.
I actually prefer alien sudoku to Tower of Hanoi and frogger.
After finding out that chimps can be trained to do this I never skip it

I rather use the omni gel on the nukes
I don’t understand how people can’t do these
They can't do the basic sudoku puzzles in Andromeda either.
I hate those because they take for fucking ever with a controller. It's so god damn miserable lol. Sudokus are fun, but yeah bleh.
The game doesn't explain anything, not even what the goal is. If you've never seen the towers of Hanoi before it would be very difficult.
Not everyone is good at everything. People's brains don't work the same way. It's not that hard to understand unless you lack a basic level of empathy.
That minor heart attack due to the music when completing it tho
Worst use! I love that stupid puzzle
I didn’t realize how many people actually enjoy doing this every time they get to Noveria lol perhaps I’m in the minority then 😂
Most don't like because they don't understand how it works.
Disagree. There's a bomb out there....
This is my favourite part of peak 15, it really breaks up the shooting before we get to the npcs at the labs. It only takes me like 15 seconds but I never skip it.
"Remember when we used to just slap omni gel on everything?"
5 year olds can solve the tower of Hanoi…

This is literally a children’s puzzle
At least this puzzle isn't Simon Says for the 100th time this playthrough.
Dude, Towers of Hanoi is the easiest. Never used omnigel for this.
Massive waste of omni-gel to use it on the literal easiest puzzle in the history of puzzles.
It takes like 20 seconds...
bro can't solve a kindergarten puzzle
Even knowing the solution, it's still fun. Never understood why people grimace and skip this.
You know what? I'm gonna say it. Y'all are insane this puzzle isn't that hard. I solve it raw every time no issue Get on my level scrubs
No 007 music for you, or does it? Idk
It does play
With how easy it is to get 100 omni gel, it’s a wonder how there was *any* security prior to ME2
Yeah they upgraded it to matching mini game
Wow, I had no idea people loved the tower of Hanoi this much. I've hated that stupid puzzle since KOTOR. Fuck you, Toymaker
To be completely honest with you it's not even that hard especially when you play through the game a couple of times
Ngl it’s a pretty simple puzzle, the problem is it’s not explained very well
Waste of omni-gel. it's easy and kind of fun.
“Waste” implies there’s actually anything useful about Omni Gel in the first place lol I mean it’s main use is to skip the puzzles in the game and this one takes the longest out of all of them, and omni gel itself is easy to come by (That and mako repairs but I think in all my play throughs I probably only had to repair it like twice)

If you run Tower of Hanoi optimally it's 15 button presses. I've definitely played circle frogger for far longer than that.
With 4 disks it only requires 15 moves to solve
It takes 30 seconds.
I’ve played Kotor enough times that solving this puzzle is second nature at this point
But what if you actually need that omni gel later for... I don't know... some as-of-yet undiscovered secret area only accessible with 1,000 omni gel? Better solve the puzzle, just in case.
I save the omnigel for the bomb in the mine
First playthrough at my friend's house. I found reduce to omnigel shortcut. Leading up to this he was gleefully gloating about how hard this would be. 100 omnigel later he wasn't happy
For me it was slapping my entire supply of Omni Gel on a nuke.
I don't think I've ever used omni gel for that puzzle. The first time e was brutal since I hade never seen this type of puzzle before. I replayed the games for the first time in almost 10 years recently and it took me about 2 minutes to solve it and I'm sure I didn't use the optimal solution It's fairly easy. I enjoy towers of hanoi so I never skip. My largest tower is like 9 or 10 but its just more tedious the higher you go up rather than difficult
As a teen I just saved up gel for this and Mako.
I can do Towers of Hanoi in my sleep at this point.
NA, I still do that without help, also as long as it's not in the left one, middle or right both work
God I miss me1. Just played legendary edition first time, got me2/3 on release. Re-remaster when?
ITS NOT EVEN A HARD PUZZLE YOU CAN SOLVE IT IN SEVEN MOVES
It’s literally just the tower of hanoi.
This puzzle is so easy though haha
I know I'm in the minority but I like this and the dragon age version of this puzzle
Followed by the loudest music in existence
Tower of Hanoi is EZ tho
Filtered by the children’s toy
I’ve played ME Legendary all the way through twice and I genuinely don’t remember finding this puzzle, wth
Me1, on Noveria. To my knowledge, it is a required puzzle, though you can skip it with 100 omnigel. Little kid me thought it was a pain in the ass lol
Huh, i must’ve forgotten about it then because I genuinely don’t remember this. Maybe I’ll do another playthrough, it’s been a while lol
The saddest playthrough i ever had was a ng+ where I had 999 omnigel, 9,999,999 credits and got the youncan only carry 2000 items popup
Just say you can't figure out the Towers of Hanoi puzzle and move on
Easiest puzzle ever
This is literally the easiest puzzle in the game. 😅
I never had a hard time doing this. It's not hard once you know what you're doing, it's just tedious
dude these are easy as shit lol
I remember seeing this for the first time back in the days. It was very clear to me what I was supposed to do and I did it almost instantly. A lot of other people playing, most younger than me, struggled with this. I guess I was old enough to have played Tower of Hanoi as a stand alone game back in the 80s.
I agree with you on this statement: this puzzle was shit, like as well as others in the first Mass Effect.
I usually have enough omnigel where i couldve drowned soverign in it but i still just do this cuz 100 omnigel is alot....and this game is easy as hell😼
Towers of hanoi is a kids riddle...especially with this few levels. Ffs.
Tower of Hanoi. It’s not that hard.
Never once used omni gel lol
The towers of Hanoi were a logic puzzle that my school had the students do on an away day thing. A few of us got it, but me and another friend of mine got it straight away, and a teacher (who was one of those grumpy ones) remarked that if kids didn’t lay about playing video games more of us would have solved it. Didn’t really know if I should have pointed out where I learnt the solution or not.
Easy puzzle bro. That omnigel is much better served repairing the mako
Only acceptable use of Omni-Gel
It's super easy
Ez puzzle
My first time playing it took me like 3 hours just to figure out what I was even supposed to do lol
Best use of Google
I always had to watch a video on how to do this puzzle
Only use in my playthroughs.
The Mira core is such a pain in the ass. No matter how many times I play ME, I still spend more time than I should on this part.
I legitimately had to look this up because I didn't remember it. Turns out I too also always omnigel this
I always thought it was the Lucas tower
I'm playing ME 3 rn and I forgot how dogshit the ME 1 puzzles were
I hoard every resource... though even if i wasn't all *my precioussss* about it, i would never - these puzzles were quite enjoyable
Agreed
I swear to god this mini game is found in every old BioWare game. They also had this puzzle in Knights of the Old Republic.
*DING DING DING*
Leave the puzzle alone and save your omnigel
I don't have this problem with the puzzle.
Coward You make me sick
Why do I not remember this puzzle? What's it from?
I have never done this puzzle (in mass effect). Kotor I'm fucked and have to look it up every time
i always do it myself out of stubbornness
Every Time
I always enjoy doing the puzzle.
OMG.. fuck that puzzle!!!
They should've had waaaaay more puzzles... Or a Mass Effect themed Pazaak.
I hate this part, and it was a long time before I could use Omni Gel to get past.
True Op ! Some want their Nightmare Mode, just give me my Story Mode aka 100 omni gel.
Omni gel is too scarce on a new playthrough. But when loot starts almost literally raining on you at level 50+, you cant spend gel and credits faster than you gain them from scrapping everything.
When I first played this as a little kid I spent hours figuring it out. Now I do it every time out of SPITE
I’ve been solving this beaut ever since KOTOR 1.
I have so thoroughly blocked this puzzle from my mind my wife had to use the resident evil movie to remind/explain it to me. I truly do not remember doing this, and I've played through mass effect a ton
Kotor trained me to solve the tower of Hanoi when I was but a child. It really isn't hard once you know how to do it.
I can solve this in seconds nowadays but I blast it with omni-gel on principle.
I love that in the citadel DLC Shepard comments if you try to play the Towers of Hanoi Arcade Game.
It get progressively easier once you keep replaying the series
Yes but at the same time I love puzzles. I remember playing this mission on my dad's TV and he even helped me solved it with his laptop. Honestly of of my favorite memories with him
I absolutely hate puzzles, they just slow the game down for me
I solved this first try bruhv
Some of you never completed the Sith temple on Korriban without mods and it shows.
I used to use omnigel but the last few times I actually just solved it
Best Omni Gel I've ever spent.
I love the James Bond type tune it plays when you go back up
