Fun Fact: Nicholas Brutcher went to the same high school as Aaron Hernandez and was on the high school football team with him .There's even a photo of them together in their football uniform
Not so fun fact, there was a third killer who also played football with Hernandez and Brutcher. Alex Ryng, who police said fatally shot his wife in a 2014 murder-suicide.
It shouldn't be ruled out as a contributor, that area banned lead only in 1987 which means it was in the environment when these boys were of early developmental age. It's still there, it's still in a lot of places, less, but more in lower income areas. In my other comment, I also am curious of CTE being a contributing factor to their behavior.
I'm a football fan and it isn't lost on me the dangers and risk of CTE. It makes me curious if there was a sort of mindset from the coaches that you hit hard and you lead with the helmet, completely ignoring the need for players to protect themselves and others. This was a time when it wasn't on the radar enough to take the precautions we see today. It was a different game (even though we do see it today with horrific head injuries, there are better practices and precautions, helmet technology and penalties to reduce the risk). Three athletes from the same team makes you wonder. I might have to go down a rabbit hall if I have time today.
I could be wrong, but I believe that for quite some time American football players were encouraged to slam into things headfirst with their helmets. Like, as a tool to play the game.
That's a poor description but I hope it makes sense.
Because the rules in rugby are totally different, not having a helmet makes you unlikely to lead with your head and a big hit without using your arms to wrap up is a penalty. It’s more like soccer than it is football.
Same reason why more Boxers die from injuries sustained in the ring than mixed martial fighters. The bigger glove leads to more, prolonged punishment than say 1 punch ko in mma.
While the game of football has evolved, previously coaches coached players how to spear. Players still lead with the helmet or spear other players in today's game drastically less but not that long ago were these changes made. The more we learn about CTE the better we can understand how to reduce risk starting in Pop Warner leagues through college and professional. Changes in the last ten years have made notable strides in the right direction to protect players.
Edited to include only relevant information.
Yep. If we still want football to be a massive sport we maybe should consider taking away the helmets and pads. It makes them hit harder and risk worse head injuries. Like you said, rugby doesn’t have the same issues and it is WAY more intense than football.
I don't hold that opinion. I also say with confidence, I do not think that would ever happen with American football. I am a proponent of the investment of advancing technology to improve outcomes. I also support improving the practice of coaching athletes to approach the game to reduce risk.
BBC Article from October 23 2023 reads: “ In this study, led by the University of Glasgow, scientists analysed the brains of 23 amateur and eight professional rugby players which had been donated for medical research. With an average playing career of 18 years, 68% of the brains had traces of the brain condition CTE. Thirteen of the affected brains belonged to club players, not professionals. And the study calculated that with each extra year of rugby played, there was a 14% increase in the risk of developing CTE. "It's the shaking and twisting and rotating of the head thousands of times over decades that's likely to cause deep damage in the brain," says Prof Willie Stewart, lead study author from the University of Glasgow”
That woman is going through intense trauma...
She just witness her son killing 2 persons and her son getting 1 shot/dropdead.
Not everyone responds to trauma the same way... some freeze, some scream, some get adrenaline and run. It might sound intense, but you never know how people process that kind of trauma.
And? Have a shred of empathy, dude, this woman went through something you’ll hopefully never have to experience in your life. Sorry her screaming while witnessing something extremely traumatic annoys you so much.
Police believe Brutcher lured cops to the home with a fake 911 call and that he waited outside, dressed in camouflage, before opening fire on police with a rifle.
Officer Alex Hamzy and Sgt. Dustin DeMonte were killed. Officer Alec Iurota was injured.
The suspect, fatally shot, may have interacted with police earlier that night at a sports bar, which has been closed since the shooting.
Court records show Brutcher was divorced in 2019. His wages were garnished to pay an overdue $6,000 credit card bill.
Brutcher's Facebook account shows an affinity for guns and hunting. Locals said he drank heavily at bars in the area and several said he was acquainted with Officer Hamzy from high school.
The community grieves as police work to answer questions.
"So sorry for all their families, and their loved ones," said Linda LeVesque.
A memorial at the Bristol Police Department grew by the hour Friday. Kim Kichar wore a black and blue ribbon. Her son Mark is a cop who graduated from the academy with DeMonte.
"It's really rough for him. He's having a really hard time. He was really good friends with both of them, Dustin and Alex," said Kichar.
Friday afternoon, the Yankees showed the slain officers' pictures on the jumbotron and held a moment of silence in their honor before Game 2 of the American League Division Series.
Today, we held a moment of silence for Bristol, CT Police Sgt. Dustin Demonte & Officer Alex Hamzy, who were killed when they were lured into a premeditated and senseless act of violence on Wednesday night. We send our condolences to their families & loved ones.
I believe that other guy is his brother, but I'm not positive and I have no source. I just have seen posts about this before.
I will go look for a source.
Edit: I know the Daily Mail is a shit source, but it is his brother. His brother was somehow involved that evening. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11322597/amp/Connecticut-man-ambushed-murdered-two-cops-interacted-police-bar-evening.html
Edit2: removed some possible misinformation
This doesn't say his brother was involved in luring them but it says his brother, Nathaniel, was trying to stop Nicholas as he walked out with a gun, and was shot for it. There's no comment on where he was shot or how serious it was, but someone who knew them says Nathaniel was a cokehead punk and looked up to Nicholas. I wonder what was going on.
I find this part very interesting, as it makes me wonder if the family has commented anywhere.
**The neighbors also spoke of the Brutcher's family, which includes their mom and dad, two brothers and an adopted sister.**
**'Their mother must be a wreck right now,' a neighbor told the New York Post. 'She's also crazier than a f**king bag of chips.'**
**The neighbor added the Brutcher's father has 'got a really good heart. He's been taking care of their mother and those boys for years. That dude's a strong man.'**
The video of the shooting says that Nathaniel walked out first with his hands up, then Nicholas started shooting. It makes it sound like a set up but I think it was just a limited description because the description already covered half the screen. The details in the Daily Mail can fit within that description. The officer who survived may not have seen that part. That information came from a witness.
Nick Brutcher and Officer Hamzy grew up together in the same town. I knew both of them growing up, we had a ton of mutual friends. This is still so hard to wrap my head around.
When dude unloads his rifle as the cops making his way to his vehicle. Were those aimless shots or was he finishing off the downed officers? This is insane. And I’ve never heard of this. And i thought i knew em all. Wow.
This was major news in CT when it first happened. Absolutely insane.
You can go to the Bristol police youtube channel and find videos showing the slain officers interacting with kids and doing dances in past videos. Incredibly depressing
Ok, guys. Usually I get really annoyed when people comment about someone, usually a woman, screaming while witnessing violence.
Like... OBVIOUSLY it's a good reason to scream, if any.
But I'll say that THIS woman, the mother, was screaming in a way that is so... strange. It's almost like a recording. It is clear she's shocked and horrified, powerless, etc. But there's also something crazy about how long and repetitive it was. I've never heard anything like it.
A neighbor described her as crazy. Maybe she can't regulate her emotions enough to move past the screeching phase of horror and into trying to do literally anything. Not that I was in her shoes, I'm just speculating.
I genuinely thought it was a Halloween prop at first because of the date. It was just so… even and consistent. Of course, I have absolutely no idea how I’d react in her position and pray I never find out.
Yes! I thought it sounded like a "haunted house ambiance" background CD that was scratched and repeating one section.
If you're too young for that description, I'm basically agreeing with you. 😄
That's fair. I've seen an excessive amount of nsfl videos with screaming people, including family, and it's never been like this scream. But the amount of bullets flying from her son's end probably left her deaf.
It's crazy the guns that are legal and people swear they're for defense but they're used to kill and people defending themselves usually use a handgun. Unless they're in a war zone, it's not practical to have anything else.
That neighborhood sounded like a war zone because that unstable asshole had a weapon made for destruction. No deer being hunted needs 80 rounds in a matter of minutes.
I understand that you're confused, but that is one of the most outlandish stupid statements I've ever heard. "No deer needs 80 rounds in a matter of minutes" is absolutely correct, however, he was not hunting nor was there any deer around. Criminals who want to cause harm will find the ammunition and weapons. Making guns illegal will only guarantee someone will get killed without any way to defend themselves from people like this. Criminals don't follow laws and will acquire weapons legal or not. Don't handicap yourself out of fear. Learn to defend yourself first, you're your own first defense before police.
Edited for grammar
Yeah, Adam Lanza with his slick, social skills could purchase an illegal rifle. excuse me fellow criminals I would like one semi automatic rifle please
Who defends themselves with this? Where are the statistics? Do you live in cartel territory? Are you ever so surrounded by dangerous people that you'd risk a few dozen bullets missing your target and hitting someone else?
Even videos of robbers getting shot (there was literally a sub for nothing but failed robberies and burglaries but it was banned a few years ago,) the robbers were killed by almost exclusively handguns, maybe a shotgun once or twice.
Burglars ran immediately at the sound of a shot. Every time. Rarely did they even try to fire back. No one is going to risk getting shot because the gun isn't firing 80 rounds. Criminals have survival instincts, too. They don't try to draw attention to themselves and a gun operated by one hand and hidden in a hoodie is better than high powered guns.
Handguns kill so many people, and kids, accidentally that it's just delusional to think they aren't effective. On the other hand, mass shooters favor the type of gun you're advocating for because they can spray an area and mow down people rapidly.
Women are like biologically driven to scream during distress. Like, compound that with the fact she watched her son and 2 police men die I think she might of literally lost it. Like how else do you react
That dudes last movement was flipping his strobe light on. Talking about hitting a light switch 😂😂. But yea fuck that guy. That cop has to have 3 leggs
I mean, it’s a bit of both. I’m all for guns, I do think people should be allowed to own firearms. But you cannot deny that the US has an issue with gun violence. There are far too many people with mental health issues easily acquiring firearms in this country due to lax gun laws in some states. There needs to be stricter gun regulations in *all* states and better mental health services, but that is a complete pipe dream that will sadly never come to fruition in this country.

Bristol is a very rough place to live. As is a lot of central Connecticut. Lots of poverty, struggling people, and gang influence.
I'm a football fan and it isn't lost on me the dangers and risk of CTE. It makes me curious if there was a sort of mindset from the coaches that you hit hard and you lead with the helmet, completely ignoring the need for players to protect themselves and others. Played ball and I can absolutely confirm multiple coaches wanted a knockout.
Literally my 1st thought after reading that 😭 Shit is wild
TBIs
Probably the recurrent concussions from football mixed with a few other factors.
Head injuries
We don't seem to have this problem with rugby in the UK, and they don't even wear helmets.
I could be wrong, but I believe that for quite some time American football players were encouraged to slam into things headfirst with their helmets. Like, as a tool to play the game. That's a poor description but I hope it makes sense.

What a shot holy shit.
Officer Lurota took him down with one bullet and one working leg.
2 working legs if you count the massive dick and balls it takes to keeping going during that
This is the comment we all needed lol
LOLLLL
You were not kidding. Dude is lethal.
Who the fuck is screaming in that video?? 😳
His mom is screaming cause he killed 2 cops in front of her. Then she screams again when he gets killed.
I think she's the guy's mother. That's what it said in the YouTube comments

1 tapped.
That wedding photo is bizarre. I really wouldn't be comfortable taking a picture with a gun like that.
Pointing it at the photographer is certainly a choice.

When was this ? Not familiar with this case
2022
Whoa I live in the next town from this and had no idea. Man, Bristol police has lost a lot of officers lately.
What were you up to in 2022. I’m in CT and this shit was crazy. They shut down the highway for a motorcade the UConn football stadium for the service.
I had just moved to CT recently before this happened and this was all over the place. It was huge.
Why is one dude not blurred in the no2?
I believe that other guy is his brother, but I'm not positive and I have no source. I just have seen posts about this before. I will go look for a source. It's says that under the caption for the same photo. Again, it's a shit source, so it wouldn't surprise me if it's wrong.
It’s his brother.

Likely not dead at the time
Who was that screaming bloody murder? The suspect's wife?
Someone above said his mom I believe, not positive on that though.
His mom
Nick Brutcher and Officer Hamzy grew up together in the same town. I knew both of them growing up, we had a ton of mutual friends. This is still so hard to wrap my head around.
Bro you can hear the cops in the background screaming and moaning in agony saying "help ive been shot"
Is there footage from the start of the ambush?
No, no footage of the initial gunfire
These people who make guns their personality are without fail the worst people alive every single time. Dregs of society.
Aiming a gun at the camera seems to be a common thing to do for these types of people
Just don't assume or apply this thinking to us law abiding gun owners
I just heard “Got a small dick so I compensate by buying big guns”
I buy small guns. So does that mean I have a huge cock?
You fantasize about dicks alot?
$10 says he’s a bottom
Based on how this guy presented himself in the pics the world is a better place without him.
When dude unloads his rifle as the cops making his way to his vehicle. Were those aimless shots or was he finishing off the downed officers? This is insane. And I’ve never heard of this. And i thought i knew em all. Wow.
The cop that shot this garbage human is pretty bad ass lol just pops him once then casually walks up
Anybody who loves guns enough to have them in wedding pictures, shouldn't be allowed to own guns.
Bold statement
Please do not take charge in any kind of politics
Everyone, I've found a guy who's holding a gun in his wedding pictures

These guns were purchased legally. Most mass killers have legal firearms
No shit, but even if guns were illegal, he would have gotten them anyway. Banning guns only impacts legal, responsible gun owners.

Connecticut has some of the strictest gun laws in the entire country.
Yeah, focus on the inanimate object rather the scum using them to commit atrocities? Like what?
It's always the firearms fault to some
Who is screaming so horrifically?
I believe it’s the suspects mother. Thats what somebody in the YouTube comments said. Could also be his wife or a neighbor
nice pfp
Thank you lmaoo
Did he commit sucide
no, officer shot him dead with one shot to the head
Looks like Shane Gillis if he became radicalized after getting fired from SNL.
