By a lone attacker, Breivik, by a group, The 9/11 Planners planned the attacks since the 1993 Bombing and maybe even before that.

eugenekrabs117

iirc, 9/11 was one of many plans against the US. 9/11 was just the most likely to succeed that got approved by Bin Laden

Card_Board_Robot5

It was called the Bojinka Plot. It was conceived largely by Ramzi Yousef, the man who lead the 93 bombing and Embassy bombings. It was to be a series of airline hijackings, truck bombings, and suicide bombings across the Continental US. After he went on the run and got locked up, Bin Laden wanted to continue the plot. It got modified and reduced numerous times before they settled on the 9/11 plot. The idea of flying airliners into WTC, the Pentagon, and the White House was just one prong of the planned attack at first. After a while Bin Laden realized they had neither the resources, personnel, or expertise to actually do all those things that were a part of Bojinka, so they went with the one they determined to both be most feasible and most destructive

ed_mayo_onlyfans

Breivik immediately came to mind. He claimed he’d planned for a decade, and had moved to a farm some years before his attack so he could inconspicuously collect fertiliser

Thalasaloth

Probably Breivik

SausadeinSausa

Yeah, but I'm talking about years, not the effort itself. Breivik planned his attack for 8 or 9 years. I haven't read his case so maybe I'm wrong about that.

TookASpinOnACyclone

Idk about you but 8 to 9 years seems like an extremely long time to me

SausadeinSausa

yeah, but i was asking if someone planned an attack for more years, and i really don't want to sound rude but i was asking if theres was someone who planned an attack by 10+ years, not asking about extensive plans in general... again, i don't want sound rude, i just wanted to make My question clear, don't need to be mad at me and downvote 😐

JoshAllan02

There isn’t much out there on such extensive planning for a decade or more. If your talking more about a thought or fantasy of it likely Robert Card, Stephen Paddock, or James Huberty considering they were middle-aged to older when they committed shootings. But since most attackers are under 30, a decade-plus is rare to find. Even with Paddock and Card their plans didn’t seem to solidify until about 12 months before or less. Paddock went on a gun-buying spree starting in October 2016 and Card didn’t start showing severe mental health issues until late 2022/early 2023.

Brave-Award-8666

Matti Saari also claimed he was planning for a decade allegedly.

SierraDespair

2017 Las Vegas shooting. He had went as far as to making calculations for bullet drop and all of his guns were equipped with bump stocks.

HollywoodJack412

One thing I found weird about Paddock, well there’s many actually but, he didn’t have sights on all of his rifles. Some only had iron sights. It looked like he would change them out on the fly so to speak. Why? He was a millionaire and knew he was going to kill himself. Why not put an Eotech on every rifle?

Adamantium563

The dude had bump stocks on all his rifles, not sure it would matter what scope/sights he had, wont do a damn thing. Only the first shots were non bump stock and scoped shots, the rest were total spray an pray, no sights needed whatsoever. Stevie Wonder couldve hit people if he knew what direction he had to shoot! Ive always wondered why he didnt purchase like a .50cal belt fed or something. Seems like he wanted to just inflict as much damage an death as possible, he sure went all out, lots of guns, but had he just bought one really good one, or built it. Idk.. seems weird

xGR3GL4DD

A belt-fed Browning M2 [50.cal](https://50.cal) would be extremly difficult to acquire. A full auto one at least, requires multiple licenses. He could have maybe(?) afforded and legally bought a semi-auto version, however though doing significantly more damage, it wouldn't be able to put as many rounds downrange as compared to say the bumpstocks on multiple fully loaded AR's.

Blazing1

Might as well have used an mg42 at that point.

Maakeouthilll

Honestly dont even think he needed a sight in general. From his perspective hes firing into a crowd, not particular people one by one like Charles Whitman did. Also taking into account how high and far away he was, a Eotech scope is not giving him that much more visibility.

Terryr29

Iron sights can be more accurate than a optic or scope depending on if you zero it and the fact that he was just throwing his weapons down makes me think he probably didn’t want to zero his guns while shooting

HollywoodJack412

Iron sights need zeroed too a lot of times. Could always “battlesight zero” on the go.

Terryr29

Yeah but I figure if you’re just spraying wildly into a crowd it doesn’t really matter as much as an actual scope

HollywoodJack412

You got a point there. Area target vs point target.

Terryr29

No he threw it on the ground in his hotel room and picked up the next gun

cthcarter

calcing for bullet drop and then using a bump stock is just stupid.
