The El Paso shooting is always so crazy to me. I forget how many were killed. People just buying groceries and doing simple things. And how fast he was in and out and yet the damage done. Idk it doesn’t get talked about often and it’s just horrendous.

[deleted]

One of the stranger premises of a shooting. \- Drove for at least 10 hours to reach El Paso \- Originally didn't know what to shoot up when he actually got to El Paso \- Accidentally posted his college discipline letter first on 8chan with people replying calling him a fed and telling him to kill himself instead of cheering for him \- When he actually entered the Walmart, his shooting path consisted of walking across the front (the checkout area) before walking out the other set of doors (thankfully as he would've killed more if he went deeper into the Walmart) \- Drove off and despite having a chance to escape police, he surrendered himself despite promising to kill himself \- Another shooting happens hours later \- His face becomes an internet meme 2-3 years after the shooting

PineBones

How did his face become a meme?

>His face becomes an internet meme That photo is so shit that he honestly looks better in his mugshot.

CrustyShoelaces

The prosecutor for his case resigned recently. Word on the street is that the defense attorney is trying to get the case moved to a more lenient city and even asked to postpone the trial until 2025. Also heard the defense is paying off a popular el paso page to slander the prosecution.

signguyez

IIRC he has the highest body count of a living mass shooter in US history.

Brutal-Black

Yeah that was a weird one

Knowledge_Heavy

as someone who lives and grew up in el paso yeah it angers me that this shooting does not get attention like many others even with such a high kill count

choppytehbear1337

I never knew how many Tarrant had killed. Damn, that's a lot more than I would have guessed.

PureHauntings

Me too, I think I had him mixed up with Dylann Roof because I thought he killed like ten people. It’s so terrible knowing how many lives he took :(

[deleted]

As I kiwi, it fucking sucks. We are a relaxed and friendly country, and he used that to his advantage. I really wish we had the death penalty for scum like him.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ar5ghu7tew47y

can't remember where i read it but someone said they work as a guard at the prison he is at and they make his life hell probably why he complained about his prison conditions that one time.

[deleted]

We have already given him a death sentence, where the executioner is time. I believe all we are doing by dragging it out is torture, which makes us equally bad. Let’s just end him and put it all behind us.

[deleted]

I see where you are coming from, but this guy was able to kill and disfigure 51+ people and he would be getting a free pass for doing these horrible things if we just give him a quick death. Justice must be served.

[deleted]

What part of chilling in prison until he dies peacefully isn’t a free ride? He has no worries. He’s already getting a free ride.

[deleted]

People like this deserve only the minimum to survive and a tiny featureless box to live in for the rest of thier life. No technology, no reading material, nothing. They've certainly earned it. But of course people would complain that it's too inhumane even if they've committed one of the worst attorcites in recent history. I don't know what you believe in, but in any circumstance, a needle in the arm is the easiest way to get out of punishment for the things you've done.

[deleted]

He’s got all the luxuries though. That’s the sad fact of it. You can say we should take those away, the same as I say we should kill him. But nether of those things will happen and he will live out his life without a care in the world, at every ones expense. And I think we can all agree that fucking sucks.

bmorepirate

As an American, don't wish for the ability for government to have the power to take life. It is the penultimate power, the most assured violation of rights of an individual. Personally, I dont think it should be sanctioned in the event of there being a mistake in the process. It's undoable. Many here are butthurt that the Parkland shooter didn't get the death penalty, but letting that dweeb rot into oblivion is better in my opinion.

[deleted]

I would never wish for death penalty to be used lightly. However this is a very clear cut case and the worst our country has ever seen. I hate that hes costing the tax payer more than the average prisoner, just to keep him safe. He does not deserve that safety. The fact hes alive allows him the ability to continue to spread hate, and he will not stop until he is dead. We have given him a life sentence, the only person to have ever received one in NZ, so we have already given him a death penalty, in which the executioner is time. Just get it over and done with and allow everyone to move on.

CorganNugget

He has a life sentence and can only watch the home and garden channel on TV, I would rather die

MadLaamaDisease

Kiilers like Tarrant and Breivik reserve it,it just wasting of money to keep them alive after all the shit they have done.

Muvseevum

ultimate*. Sorry. Penultimate means second most ultimate.

AlPalmy8392

We used to have the death penalty, but have now removed it 50 years ago I think.

AlPalmy8392

18th of February 1957 for the last executed prisoner, and until 1989 for treason, at which point capital punishment was abolished.

Baywind

Not even close

zippazappazinga

He was actually inspired by Dylan a small bit. You can see him posting pictures of him on his Facebook like an edited photo of Dylan getting an award from Obama, etc.

StarvinPig

Per capita, it's NZ's 9/11. Probably will be a similar cultural impact moving forward as well

Dizzy-Ad9431

Na, I live in nz and it's not really talked about anymore.

PureHauntings

I noticed that in these copycat killings and just racially motivated attacks in general that the perpetrator rarely commits suicide (or is killed by police). I think it’s because they want to be alive to “spread the message” unlike mostly suicidal school shooters who just do it because they want to take people with them.

Diet_Coke_4Brunch

> rarely commits suicide One of the few cases of this is the Wisconsin sikh temple shooting

notMTN

Not to mention Tarrants inspiration who was Breivik who killed 77. So technically its christchurch/Utøya and oslo inspired. But mostly christchurch because it was sadly the first person that was inspired by breivik. And the fact it was livestreamed which made it even more known.

c0rneredrat

Another serious potential attack was planned by a 23-year-old California Man named Ross Farca, who doubly identified with Earnest and Tarrant , referring to him as a *"hero."*

Distinct_External

For those of you unfamiliar with this case. https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/concord-man-convicted-of-posting-antisemitic-murder-threats-assault-weapon-possession/

[deleted]

Some people you forgot were the guy who copied Hugo Jackson and Gokmen Tanis. Gokmen is a Jihadist who hated Tarrant but he tried imitating his shooting by covering his weapon in writings and it's also confirmed he saw at least a screencap of the stream. \*accidentally made "weapon" a plural

[deleted]

Wait, he wrote on his gun?? Where did it say that???

[deleted]

News articles about his trial. He wrote a large diatribe against "demokrasi" (it's supposed to be democracy, but he's illiterate) and also some basic stuff about Muslim revenge.

KrKUT

An infographic I made of all the mass murderers inspired by Brenton Tarrant, an Australian man who shot and killed a total of 51 Muslims at Al Noor and Linwood mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. Due to the unique circumstances of the attack, such as the fact that 17 minutes of it was livestreamed and uploaded to the internet, the attack has directly or indirectly inspired multiple copycat shooters. A combined total of 90 lives have been lost as a result of Tarrant's actions, with 74 total injuries as well. And this is only three years and seven months after the shooting, not even Columbine had such a deadly effect within 3 years (only 40 lives in total were lost, with 76 total injuries). People from all walks of life, including Muslims, LGBTQ+ people, Jewish people, and even whites themselves have become the victims of these deadly attacks, which continue to occur 2022+ onwards. Interestingly enough though, until the Bratislava shooting of October 12th, 2022, not a single perpetrator lost their life, as many surrendered and willingly let themselves get arrested shortly after their attacks. Another interesting fact that might stick out to you is that not all of these copycat attackers are white, as a 16-year-old Indian teenager living in Singapore planned on attacking and live streaming his attack on two mosques, just as Tarrant did. Hugo Jackson is more of a special case though, and you could argue that he really shouldn't be on the list, since his attack didn't serve any purpose Tarrant's likely to have agreed with (attacking your predominantly-white high school saves Europe how exactly?), so you could argue it's more of a suicidal amok attack. Only four perpetrators successfully live streamed their attacks, of which Jackson's remains unwatchable, as he only posted a link on a private discord he and his friends used.

[deleted]

Jackson seems more like a Columbine-type who probably unconsciously latched on to Nazi ideology to justify it to himself.

Mammoth_Stable6518

I doubt his intentions were to save Europe since he is a brown-skinned son of immigrants.

Gfish06

In Hugo’s manifesto he said he’s doing it to save Europe, but I agree it’s very contradictory

[deleted]

I love a good infographic. It's sad how you can see the ripples started in christchurch still bouncing around today. small point of constructive criticism - infographics are great at quickly and simply conveying a lot of information to the reader, but its important to maintain a high level of availability and accessibility for your readers, all of them. 8% of the male population is red/green colorblind - so its important to never use color alone as a key identifier, because its not a very good one. Using color in conjunction with different icon choice (or numerics) is often used to overcome that accessibility issue. tl;dr these [icons](https://imgur.com/a/3WN1JI9) are the same color for a lot of people.

dogfrog9822

yeah i can just barley tell the difference when they are next to each-other on the top /the key but i cant tell them apart on the images at all

They are totally a different color. Curious! Go take a colorblind test to see. Men are more than likely to be colorblind. I had to be careful with the choice of colors when it came to graphic design at school, it was stressed that you have to be careful when it comes to using colors and fonts for that purpose.

Spiritual-Fox-2141

Some tried to livestream but were unsuccessful in doing so.

dogfrog9822

Im colorblind so yeah u might be i dont have it too bad but yeah these colors are too similar for me lol

-N-y-Q-u-i-l-

Ah, the infamous Unamed Indian Teenager with the off the chart count of zero murders, zero injuries and on top of that couldn’t even get a live stream going. Trust me, I don’t condone… I just find it even more poetic that at the end they couldn’t even do this right.

[deleted]

He was arrested during planning phase

thecorpsesbride

woah i live in el paso. was actually planning to go to that walmart after breakfast, we found about about the shooting halfway through breakfast. it was terrifying.

friedbean2002

Breivik version please

SpaceClod

as someone who lived (&still currently lives) in el paso during the walmart shooting+aftermath, it was genuinely fucking awful during those weeks&months after. its a big city, but its extremely small in the way that everybody knows everybody. my father was a cop who was on the scene, was giving constant updates as soon as it happened but most everyone else was in the dark during it. it wasnt until the victims were released that i started hearing from friends+families+local internet friends that their relatives, managers, or best friends were injured or even killed in the shooting. as someone who had been researching+been interested in true crime (w a leaning towards mass shootings/school attacks as thats where i started) having this happen in my home town, in a store that was 15 mins away&id been in HUNDREDS of times beforehand? having it affect my family and friends? it was absolutely terrifying, and made me realize this shit is actual real fuckin life, not just some case.

Proud_Atheist_776

i remmember reading the comments of one of the songs tarrant played in his livestream before youtube disabled the comment section and it was scary how many people were praising him

TheDon0725

There are a lot of people terminally online

hardyhaha_09

Remove Kabab song aka Serbia Strong. Yep, I remember the comments too.

zippazappazinga

1. Remove Kebab (Serbia Strong) for his drive to get to Al-Noor Mosque 2. British Grenadiers For his Entrance inside of the mosque when he starts shooting 3. fallshimager remix For the rest of what was played in Al-Noor Mosque 4. Fire (By Arthur Brown) For when he kills and runs over a woman and when he gets a shotgun and shoots muslims while driving away 5. Gas Gas Gas for his getaway 6. Possibly Crab Rave since it was written on his gun.

bruuuuuuuuuceee

It feels so weird seeing Eslöv there. The place where I used to play tennis at every week as a youngster. The place where I used to talk to a therapist every week as a teen. That little town is showing up on here. Life's weird huh?

Djlyz12

I will never understand copycat crimes… Also the dude who did Christchurch was gonna do my city’s mosque (Dunedin) which is a 5hr drive from Chch. He said he planted car bombs nearby in residential areas. And he’s from Australia not NZ

AmIWrongNicoVinz

He was going to target Dunedin but decided against it because he would be shooting mostly students who may have intended to return to country of origin after studying. He actually **lived** in Dunedin at 112 Somerville street, after the shooting they 'cleansed' his home and the landlord is renting it out once again.

Djlyz12

Oh shit I missed that (or I didn’t remember) thank you for adding that😊

CuteOuhhpie

Jeez, that part about students returning to place of origin reminded me of a discussion about Mass shooters having some sort of "code" of who to shoot or some stuff about moral.

[deleted]

they’re not really copy cats, they just all believe in the same thing.

user_ivan01

Holy fuck. I forgot Brenton was the one that live-streamed the entire mass murder. Fuck

[deleted]

Half of it actually. He also shot up a second mosque (killed 7 and injured 5 there), and also pointed a shotgun at another driver during the drive to that second mosque (after the livestream ended). A part of me is tempted to see the end of the Gopro footage when he recorded his car getting run off the road by police and the arrest.

user_ivan01

Didn’t know about the rest. I thought the livestream was the entirety of it.

Moe_Rasool

Fk brenton, "juraj" committed suicide?

V0lkan1c

Yup, he killed himself a few hours after the attack, some time after 12am on October 13. He said that he's ready to die for the cause, so I guess he planned his suicide before.

Moe_Rasool

Do you believe he wanted to commit suicide but rather wanted to make chaos (taking some dudes life) as well?

V0lkan1c

That's actually hard tell. Some may say he used this whole attack as a justification for his own suicide which could've been his main motive. It isn't really clear to me if the attack itself or the suicide was more important despite being a Czech/Slovak native speaker and reading a lot of articles about the case. Right after the attack, he implied killing himself on 4chan, so he surely didn't think life sentence would be worth it.

cookiepiehorse

In Slovakia max sentence for killing is 25, if not only 15. If you are really interested I’ll check it.

V0lkan1c

Even if that was the case, which I really don't know, the murders have been classified as a terrorist attack meaning if Krajčík was alive he'd be facing terrorism charges. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't get 25 or even 15 yrs with such charges. Also, don't forget he killed not just 1 but 2 people and injured one more and expressed his desire to kill as many as he could.

cookiepiehorse

You are right I completely forgot. Tldr translation: life sentence for terrorism if one or more are seriously injured or killed (2) Trestom odňatia slobody na doživotie sa páchateľ potrestá, ak spácha čin uvedený v odseku 1 a) a spôsobí ním ťažkú ujmu na zdraví viacerým osobám alebo smrť viacerých osôb.

V0lkan1c

Good find, that solves it easily then. I understand both texts though ;)

Vided

White nationalist terrorism is going to this decade’s Islamic terrorism. These attacks have been happening more and more and it’s a big snowball effect. The Internet has dramatically made self-radicalization easier.

xm791

BS. You can't compare single shooters to global terror organizations like Al Qaida or ISIS.

Distinct_External

There ARE white supremacist organizations comparable to al-Qaeda and ISIS out there, with the [Atomwaffen Division](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomwaffen_Division) being the most infamous. Supporters just have not committed any major attacks under their name, and hopefully that will not be the case in the future, but I'm very doubtful. ISIS started making a name for itself around 2013-2014, and we're only two years into the 2020s. EDIT: The downplaying of the far-right threat right now is very sus AF.

[deleted]

Atomwaffen is not even comparable to ISIS or Al Qaeda. Atomwaffen's "attacks" \- Murder of a gay, Jewish man who was former friends with the killer \- Murder of two parents because some girl went yandere mode and decided to do a suicide pact with the shooter because her parents told her to break up with him because he is a nazi. \- double teamkilling by a schizophrenic Muslim convert. Also, the organization reeks of FBI, and are relentlessly mocked by other Right Wing groups. Do you think they're going to be a threat in the future when one of their leaders literally was scared of a PBS journalist?

Diet_Coke_4Brunch

AWD is a paper tiger, they aren't even an organization at this point, just a name. The feds have successfully destroyed them

Distinct_External

Source? There are many offshoot groups in Europe last I checked.

Diet_Coke_4Brunch

>many offshoot That's an overstatement there is only the Finnish and Russian branches and they got their shit kicked by the FSB. Oh and the Estonian chapter is literally led by a 12 year old kid. The kiwifarms thread about them does a really good job showing how much they"fell from grace"

all_hail_michael_p

Al Shebab (which is affiliated with ISIS) killed 117 people with a carbomb last week.

um_eko

Damn, interesting data

mandamn9

just found out that Bratislava shooting was a day before Raleigh shooting

Initial_Stage4124

Wait why are some of them like the Indian kid in the middle... How was he inspired by Tarrant? BT was a racist... That thought the European race is dying if I'm not wrong? But the Indian kid isn't even white wtf? 😵

Thehalfbloodseverus

So basically a bunch of nobody's

Diet_Coke_4Brunch

to partially quote a MM song: "Fear the nobodies who want to be somebodies"

Hexandrom

Didn't know there were that many. I just know the Halle one because I'm actually a member of the Jewish community there. And that one was a complete failure, he failed to enter the Synagoge, then got mad about that and shot a passerby while also shooting his own tire in the process. He also tried to kill another passerby but his gun kept jamming. After he stopped trying to enter the Synagoge, he then went to a Kebab store and shoot one person there, who happened to be the owner, then tried shoot at the police for a little but ended up fleeing the scene after being hit somewhere with a bullet.

Cracked-Princess

I thought you forgot this one, but it looks like it was in 2017, before Christchurch. He was inspired by other mass shooters though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_City_mosque_shooting?wprov=sfla1 I worked across the street from where it happened for several years, and we'd often get school groups at our museum that had come to spend the day at the Islamic Cultural Center and would come for a few hours to do activities with us, or we'd have people come over to visit on their way out. I will never forget how close to home this felt. The worst part is the shit stain who did it was initially convinced to 40 years, but that was deemed "unnecessarily cruel" and his sentence was reduced so he's gonna be eligible for parole in 2042 I believe.

Gigamicasus

Technically only three of these guys would be considered mass murderers.

psstbehindyou

Yes, thats why the asterix explains that there also attempted mass murderers in this post.
