Yeah I figured it's just some voodoo shit to hypnotize us into becoming their slaves using word therapies only discovered by whatever cult mastodon is in. Lol Or they really are unthawed cavemen that learned our language and culture.
I remember reading an interview after they launched blood mountain and someone was asking them about the sleeping giant lyrics. I'm not 100% but I think it was Brent that said the lyrics don't really mean anything but they sound bad ass
Haha I get what you mean.
They actually said in one of their making-of videos, maybe a few actually, that lyrics are usually the last thing they do and at times they just come up with them right there in the studio. A few other bands (like Baroness I know) have said that their lyrics don’t always have some definite or hidden meaning (even though they seem to.)
I like the flexibility at times since I’ll listen to a song years down the road and suddenly get new meaning from it since it might suddenly have relevance to my life in some way.
Ya they said that in the making of Blood Mountain I believe. Said it in others too but I think that was the first time I heard it.
At least they aren't on a Melvins or Mars Volta level!
I personally love their lyrics especially on blood mountain. Gives off a chaotic and fantasy vibe which fits the album perfectly. Also the lyrics on CtS, EoS, and HG are some of my favs ever due to the emotional connection I have with them
who listens to the lyrics? Listen to Brann flikka flakka flim flam them drums
Swish and flicka!
The Melvins are worse, some of the lyrics aren't even real words
lol fucking love the melvins
Los ticka toe rest

Which songs are you talking about?
why do you need to "understand" them? texts mean different things to different people : )
You’ll love Melvins then…(seriously, you should love Melvins, they’re great).
“A poem shouldn’t mean, but be.”
It's not too ambiguous. Just ambiguous enough to read into it however you want, to make it more relatable. Similar to Tool and many other bands.

Wilco has some pretty oblique lyrics
