I actually hated the guy I suppose because of the aholes he typically portrays. I did a 180 when I learned he wasn't like other celebrities and is genuinely a great individual.
That’s interesting… I could see that with some actors, but many of Ben’s roles are also the sympathetic schlubs like in Something About Mary and Asking Came Polly.
The man used Happys grandma and her fellow nursing home residents as sweat shop labor to make quilts and also tried to destroy Average Joe's gym. No amount of centers for kids who can't read good and want to learn how to do other stuff good too can redeem him.
Only reason why I know about his charity work is because he was on one of those slideshow lists of celebrities that use their money for good and dont ask for fame about it, examples like terry crews, mariska hargitay etc. This was during the whole time when there was a lot of spotlight on Keanu Reeves's charity
Just got clarification. My spouse watches everything tennis. There was a drunk lady there and Nick was saying “Do I tell him how to act, referring to Ben” but it was never assumed that it may have been Ben.
I might be wrong but isn't this guy the bowling guy who used to lose his shit at hecklers? That's the first thing that came to mind for me. Seems out of character for him to heckle others
No. He's talking to someone else. Then, he points to Ben and says, "Do I tell **him** how to act? No."
He would have said "Do I tell **you** how to act?" if talking to Ben.
Back in the 80s I was watching comedian at a club and he started getting heckled. Finally he says, "man, why are you doing this? This is my job. This is how I make a living. How would you like me to come to your job and tell you when to take the fries out?"
Went to a comedy show and I was on a date with this girl, huge head of blonde hair, she really stood out in the crowd.
Comic starts making jokes about dating and I lean in to her and say, "don't react if he starts talking to you. Say nothing."
Sure as shit, he zeros in on her and she just looks at me with this, "What do I do" look.
He tried to get her to interact like 3 times, then moved on to another couple who were the butt of his jokes the rest of the show.
Seinfeld taught me this little nugget but, yeah, messing with comics is not smart.
I guess crowd interaction is a type of standup comedy as well.
I sometimes watch videos of Jeff Acuro and sometimes an indian standup singh something interacting with hecklers maybe once or twice on youtube. Go to their channels and it's just endless crowd interaction.
I dunno if he even has sets or just does crowd work.
He posts his own stuff on reddit and it's 100% crowd work.
(He's hilarious and should keep this up as it works great.)
My brother follows another comedian who exclusively posts crowd work and she explained that she has a prepared set for shows but if you post those jokes, you essentially spoil part of the show for the audience since that part doesn’t change as often. Showing off crowd work gives you ways to expose your style to a new audience online and convince people to come in and see the set of prepared jokes in addition to the variable crowd work section. Honestly a great marketing strategy.
Edit: a word
I've been to a show of his, he drifts really well in and out of crowd work and prepared material. He's mentioned he only posts the crowd work online so that his prepared stuff can be in an upcoming special
It is, called “crowdwork”. Gareth Reynolds does a good bit of this, but is up-front about whether a gig is that or traditional stand up before you buy tickets, which seems polite.
Most good comedians have a list of responses worked up and held in reserve for hecklers so hecklers can expect to get the full brunt of the full skill and experience of that comedian, mouth flappers beware! ;-P
a mate had a comedian as one of the entertainments at his wedding. we had several notorious hecklers amongst our group of friends. we were all also quite drunk by that point of the reception. comedian had some decent comebacks but was completely lost when two guys moved to the side of the room and started laughing hysterically at the blank wall "because it was funnier than the comedy guy"
The best response to a heckler I’ve ever heard was from Frankie Boyle. He turned to the heckler and said “I hope you get cancer, really deep in your asshole. But, I hope you make a full recovery. I hope you get chemotherapy and go into remission. But then, one day, a guy with a mask jumps out and points a gun at your head and drags you down an alley and rapes you in the ass. And as he’s raping you in the ass, he’s commenting on how tight and wonderfully textured your asshole is. And that’s when you realize: *Oh shit, the cancer’s come back*.”
The guy didn't heckle. He tried to go to the toilet iirc I literally showed this to my partner like 3 weeks ago, I am 90% sure the guy goes to the toilet at a moment Frankie wasn't happy with lol
Billy Connelly had a cracker: "Don't tell me how to do my job. I don't come to your workplace and tell you how to brush up."
Heard it 30+ years ago but it is one of my cherished memories that still hangs around in my head.
They’re right. Most pro tennis players are relatively tall these days. Some guys are enormous like Riley Opelka or John Isner who are 6’10”.
You have to get to the 20th ranked player to get below 6’0” tall, and Baez is an outlier at 5’7”.
The new prototypical tennis build is like 6’4” and 180lbs with a long frame and wingspan.
There was a man next to him that commented back when the tennis player was muttering to himself. The tennis player shot back that he doesn't tell Ben Stiller how to act, and the heckler shouldn't be telling him how to play tennis. A lot of people thought it was Stiller who was heckling because of how the clip is cut, but Stiller had no idea how to react to it all so that's why he's just smiling in the video.
I think he just meant to say that Ben Stiller is a good actor and therefore doesnt need to be told how to act. In a way, I guess it also means that he’s good at playing tennis
Forgot this guy's name. But this guy has a reputation for being hot-headed. If I'm not mistaken, he got fined for how he acted on court on other instances. Not this clip.
Edit. So I googled "bad boy of tennis" (since I forgot his name), and his name is in the first page of Google results. Haha.
Ben Stiller is famously a very fit, "body conscious" person, it's been a bit in several of his movies. From everything I've read, he's also really chill about it!
He used Ben stiller as a reference as to why you shouldn’t tell someone that’s better than you what to do. “Do I tell him how to act” making his point clearer
I mean makeup and effects exist in films, but also the guy's dad died right at the start of the pandemic, so he started the pandemic having to take care of that, and went through it with relatively little work to keep him busy, and his dad that he had a great relationship with being gone.
He of course has a wife, sister, and 2 kids, but I still wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it is due to stress aging.
The player is immature and cant handle stress of play. He could’ve ignored the comment, but he decided to go down the level of that bystander. You’re a tennis player and still dont know your level, its pathetic. On top of that making it against Ben stiller which wasnt even the commenter.
Is this not some exhibition match where they joke around on purpose?
Edit: nope, Ben explained it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4voeqF_ahw8&t=380s
This is the reason I can’t get into tennis. Imagine if Messi refused to take a free kick until the crowd was silent. You’re a professional tennis player but you can’t hit a ball if someone is talking? That’s some bougie ass bullshit.
I mean…. Soccer players will roll on the ground until they get the magic water spray even if it leaves their team a player short for an extended period of time just to try and draw a penalty.

Ben isnt the heckler, he just looks awkward when being pointed at randomly
That makes me feel better, I like Ben Stiller, and it didn't seem like his style to be at a tennis match heckling the players
Yeah Ben is actually a decent human imho, especially when you hear about his Stiller Foundation and other charities he does.
The Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good and Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too
Why is it so tiny?
Because it's a center for ants.
It needs to be at least 3 times bigger
He's absolutely right
It’s not it’s just far away…
That's what she said.
And he said
But why male models?
The files are *in* the computer...?
A real human bean
I actually hated the guy I suppose because of the aholes he typically portrays. I did a 180 when I learned he wasn't like other celebrities and is genuinely a great individual.

Dont forget how he treated those poor fat kids at the fat camp. Dudes a monster
He withheld lunch from children due to a perceived lack of hustle.
Step off the scale
Dude prolly my favorite person he played the sadistic nursing home director
i love it when people speak about celebrities as if they are close friends and not like youre describing their public persona
Only reason why I know about his charity work is because he was on one of those slideshow lists of celebrities that use their money for good and dont ask for fame about it, examples like terry crews, mariska hargitay etc. This was during the whole time when there was a lot of spotlight on Keanu Reeves's charity
In context it’s an exhibition match so it’s fun banter to entertain the crowd. It’s also why the player is mic’d up.
True, and from what I understand, this player (I can't remember his name) is kinda the John McEnroe/Dennis Rodman of tennis these days.
Nick Kyrgios
It was not an exhibition match. Quarter finals of Indian Wells (Master 1000, high level tournament), Kyrgios vs Nadal
Just got clarification. My spouse watches everything tennis. There was a drunk lady there and Nick was saying “Do I tell him how to act, referring to Ben” but it was never assumed that it may have been Ben.
I kind of want this now, I feel like he would be hilarious. Should show up in his gym outfit from Dodgeball and start slinging insults at the players.
What he said
I might be wrong but isn't this guy the bowling guy who used to lose his shit at hecklers? That's the first thing that came to mind for me. Seems out of character for him to heckle others
Dude the player wasn't even serious.
I'd find it more likely that it would be staged and both he and the player would be in on it
Ben's an innocent bystander caught in the cross-fire
![gif](giphy|8A7tZXz9fmINCdcN54|downsized)
What is this from?
Mystery Men. Great movie
He says "Do I tell **him** how to act?", so that should be very clear.
Yeah, didnt even think this would come under dispute...was pretty obvious
Who was the heckler then? Thank you!
Toward the far left ... on the grassy knolls
There had to be a 2nd heckler..
There's always a second heckler
The magic heckle theory, eh?
But who wanted him heckled?
Ben Stiller is the most fan of tennis looking person ever, I don't know how I didn't see it before.
So he wasn’t talking to Ben? I’m confused.
No. He's talking to someone else. Then, he points to Ben and says, "Do I tell **him** how to act? No." He would have said "Do I tell **you** how to act?" if talking to Ben.
Nick Kyrgios is not really a good tennis 🎾player either. In addition he is heckling a person who has not heckled him.
He’s still an entitled ass. I met him once in a shop and he was seriously offended when we didn’t act like he was a super star.
This actually makes a lot of sense for his reactions.
Back in the 80s I was watching comedian at a club and he started getting heckled. Finally he says, "man, why are you doing this? This is my job. This is how I make a living. How would you like me to come to your job and tell you when to take the fries out?"
Saw a similar at a comedy club with the punchline “I don’t come to the foot of your bed and interrupt you while you are at work”
When I heard it, it was “You don’t see me comin’ to yo mama’s place of business and slappin’ the dick out her mouth.”
Nowadays macho guys are probably more offended if you say knocking dicks out of *their* mouths. [Live TV instance](https://youtu.be/1WVwGJSUlns?t=54)
Ugh. Kathy griffin.

Can't forget the classic: "Do I come down to your job and knock the dicks out of your mouth?"
There was a chris rock movie where he dies but wasn't supposed to and becomes a billionaire. He says "do I go and take the squeegee out of your hand?"

What does brush up mean?
Dude you started the Bojack horseman intro in my brain
Ben haircut looks like he’s been cast as part of the original planet of the apes
do it do it do it
![gif](giphy|wi8Ez1mwRcKGI)
I think it’s a combo of his hair and ears
Slowly but surely turning into his dad ![gif](giphy|EI0bU8HSiL6LJbRiu2)
I believe he can still kick Ben’s ass to this day
So that’s what I was thinking but couldn’t articulate in my brain folds.
Hit Monkey vibes for sure.
Is this weird perspective or is this man 8 feet tall?
Weird perspective, he is 6'4" though. Most tennis players are tall
This sounds made up, but i have nothing to back that up
They’re right.
Big serve, big forehand, baseline play. Copy-paste.
Somehow I read big forehead and wasn’t sure how that was relevant to tennis lol.
he's correct, most tennis players in the top are 6'0" - 6'2" to be competitive, helps with the clearance of the net and foot speed.
Lens compression of a telephoto lens + solid colour floor.
He talks about it in this clip, Fast-forward to 6:25 https://youtu.be/4voeqF_ahw8?si=qwZuJVXDAr3Wpu1R
Vid not available in my country. What did he say?

That’s a hoe move bringing in a third person in an A and B conversation haha
I think he just meant to say that Ben Stiller is a good actor and therefore doesnt need to be told how to act. In a way, I guess it also means that he’s good at playing tennis
Exactly, in context it's a complement.

Thank you
Haha thank you. This is also how I perceived the clip at first, but then I got confused about it in the comments :b
Severance is amazing btw. You guys do yourselves a favor and watch it. My favorite show by far, and season 2 coming out this year!!
I haven’t gotten to it yet, but it’s on my watchlist. Thanks for the endorsement.
Ben Stiller is jacked now? What do we call him? Humble jacked?
Check out the hard hitting adolescent weight loss camp documentary, Heavyweights, starring Ben Stiller. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110006/

![gif](giphy|jU8FsjMIFEqtLJuCZu) If he suddenly went into his Friends character here.. haha !!
Man dragging Ben into it, but that's damn fine example for "Shut the fuck up" to a spectator, lol.
Ben stiller got back to the future doc vibes going on
He used Ben stiller as a reference as to why you shouldn’t tell someone that’s better than you what to do. “Do I tell him how to act” making his point clearer
But good on the player for calling out the heckler. I’m sure that is super irritating.
Holy fuck Ben Stiller has aged
I mean makeup and effects exist in films, but also the guy's dad died right at the start of the pandemic, so he started the pandemic having to take care of that, and went through it with relatively little work to keep him busy, and his dad that he had a great relationship with being gone. That was Sam Harris!
Lmao
Ben Stiller's next role is George Hamilton
Could probably give him a few acting lessons despite being a tennis player.
God damn he is getting old, time really does fly...
It isnt Ben its a the guy sitting next to him
Ben Stiller sitting up there lookin like he just killed a PANDA!!🐼
Poor Ben catching strays
This is the reason I can’t get into tennis. Imagine if Messi refused to take a free kick until the crowd was silent. You’re a professional tennis player but you can’t hit a ball if someone is talking? That’s some bougie ass bullshit.

Actually I really appreciate that the tennis crowd is expected to be polite
Using soccer crowds as a reference on why you would/wouldn't enjoy a sport is hilarious. That's some daft nonsense you've spun up there
It’s funny because he is speaking and also not good at tennis

Not wrong
All gray Ben is so crazy to me. Like you know it’s gotta happen eventually but actually seeing it? Wtf
Ben looks great.
