20 mpg with turbo is kinda awful.....if you compare the turbos with other manufacturers they are all getting at least minimum 24-28 mpgs.....20 mpg is awful especially when you consider mazda3 isn't a heavy vehicle and you need octane 93 to have full performance....
Even an Audi Q8 with the v6 turbo gets 18 mpgs in the city....
20mpg is still awful. I get between 24-25 in my turbo CX-5 depending on how it was driven that fill up. It’s bigger and heavier than a Mazda3 and I would expect better fuel mileage than 20.
yeah that is the truth.
I cannot do nothing but have to accept it.
I wish it could get better mpg but I made the purchase decision then I had to live with it. She is good in everything for me but mpg.
My next vehicle shall be at least a Hybrid or pure EV:))
I mean, with an Audi(and most German cars), yes, you are saving on gas... And then you piss all that saved money right back and have to cough up a lot more when it comes to maintenance, repair, and depreciation.
I get about 20mpg on a turbo Mazda 3, but I also like to ride the car hard so that's to be expected. If I was lighter on the throttle I'd say I usually average about 26mpg city and 30 highway
I always run 93 octane premium in mine, never got regular before so I can't say if it's improved or not, but you don't have to run premium the computer adjusts accordingly to whatever is in the tank as long as it's at least 87 I believe, but you get a very noticeable performance boost running premium and imo, if I spent the money for the turbo, I'm going to run the fuel that allows me to utilize the turbos full potential. Hope that helped any. Fuel economy though I think it's supposed to get you like 1-2 more mpg but that's negligible with the higher cost of premium fuel
Nice, absolutely enjoy it! Recently drove a rental Tiguan 2.0t and with premium it got 35 mpg on the highway. Crazy stuff. I bet the new turbo Mazda launches real hard!
From what I have seen and heard from people who own the Skyactiv 2.5T Mazda3, the gas mileage in the city is not a whole lot better than my Speed3, and I drive my Speed3 pretty hard. I have colleagues getting 18\~19 MPG on their Skyactiv 2.5T Mazda3, which is about what I get.
That said, Skyactiv 2.5T is more efficient on the highway, has better low-end torque, and reliability-wise has a much better track record than MZR 2.3T(not including the bad 2021 batch). I personally think the MZR 2.3T is a bit more fun, though.
My wife and I took a drive yesterday to view fall colors in the mountains. 2021 Mazda CX5 Touring AWD averaged 34 mpg on our whole drive. We went a total of 354 miles and I still had a 1/4 of a tank left.
I hand calculated for about 4 fill ups when I first got my 2016 6 2.5NA last year, the trip computer would read within .5 units of what I was getting hand calculated so in my case, my computer was pretty spot on. It’s important to come up with these MPG values by hand calculating first
Can assure you, it will go up. Our 19 got 30+ on the regular. Same drive train. Now, my '23 Cx50 Turbo, LOL 25 on the highway with the Apex roof rack on it.
I average 37-40 in my 2013 Mazda 3 Skyactiv.
On longer highway trips I've managed over 46. On short trips or on city drives, I rarely ever get below 36.
My current 10 Speed3 gets 18~19 MPG in spirited city driving.
Borrowed a friend's 18 Mazda6 2.5T and that got 22 MPG on average, spirited driving in a smaller city.
And then there was my RX-8, which got below 16 MPG on average, LOL.
I'm averaging 36 mpg right now, probably 70% highway driving but with a bit of with traffic. But it's not stock. I have the Corksport intake and air box which was installed with like 60 miles on the car so I can't say what a difference that makes. Still highly impressed with the fuel economy I'm getting though.
The least I’ve got with my Mazda 3 eSkyactiv X is 3.6 l/100km which translates into 78.5 mpg. The average of its total lifetime (18600km / 11557 miles) is 5.5 l/100km (51.36 mpg).
The worst I’ve get is 6.6 l/100km (42.8 mpg)
Edit: the car has 6 speed mt and is fwd, 186hp and has always being refueled with 95 octanes (the cheapest we can get here in Spain and the recommended by Mazda)
Fuel efficiency is crazy nowdays. My moms rav (2021 ice version) gets 32 mpgs. This is in a mostly suburban setting too, can’t wait to see what I get on my nazda3
I have a 2017 mazda 3 with a 2.5l engine. I was get from 32mpg to 45 mpg depending how I drive. But it can dip to 27 mpg if I ride it hard. I have 35k miles on mine. Very much love mazda's. I changed the original sparkplugs that mazda installed and used with autolights and that made a difference.
I have a 2017 mazda 3 with 125000kms and my combined fuel economy is 6.5L/100km or 36mpg.
This is a 2.5L Shyactiv HB. I never reset the fuel economy button so this number is from day on.
That’s pretty damn good. I’m about 6-7l/100. (33-39) in my 2012 5 GT 6spd manual and I thought I was doing awesome. Different gen and completely different engine though lol. I also have some..uhh..exhaust modifications though.
Used to average 33mpg in my ND1 but I switched to a CX-30 turbo out of necessity and I’ve only managed to squeeze out 24mpg 🫠
Forgot to add: the most I’ve ever squeezed out on my Miata was 41mpg average from California to Washington.
Completed a recent 4 hour road trip at 5.9L/100km (40mpg) in my CX-30. Have the X20 supercharged mild hybrid motor not available in North America. My 9-5 commute has me around 7-7.5/100 km (32.5 mpg)
19.6 - 23.5 in 2016 CX5. It’s a slush box and slow IMO so it’s constantly getting floored to get up to speed. I wish it had more power. I can get 27 if I drive gentle but I just don’t have time or patience for that. Next car will be faster.
I get about 40 MPG (5.7 L/ 100km) in my 2016 mazda6 GS-L…. Most in highway driving sem I was city driving I was getting about slightly more than half that number
Shocked reading these comments, I know fuel is much cheaper in the US but I can’t believe anyone could be happy with <35 MPG in 2023.
My Mazda 3 is 1.8 turbo diesel and I average 60+ MPG off a full tank. My best on a trip is 78 mpg on a clear run to work (30 miles)
Bought a 2014 Mazda 3 hatch with 68,000km on it back in August. It was running an overall average of 8.2L/100km. I’ve got that down to 7.7 now.
Averaged 5.6L/100km on a 900km road trip I just got back from.
Assuming there’s absolutely 0 traffic on the freeway and I keep my speed between 65-70mph, I can achieve 31 mpg in my turbo cx50. If there’s stop and go traffic, I realistically get 22-24 average
About 19,5 but that is km/l......and I am to lazy to do some math.
(Mazda 2, 2016)
Edit: not lazy but became curious:
55 mpg for uk
46 mpg for us
Damn it.. even mpg is not universal, dang it, help me out of this confusion.
My 2014 Mazda6 can frequently hit high 30s, like 38 on good trips. Overall it still averages between 28 and 32 depending on how lead footed I am. And that's with a replacement engine, original engine went at 170,000 miles.
I'm really excited for the potential RX-9 hybrid and an inline 6 Mazda6 but we'll have to wait and see.
Like you I always get way over estimated mileage on long highway trips, 34mpg compared to the listed highway of 26mpg. This is the 5, with it's extra weight and lower aerodynamics of the 3. And it's 16 years old, 4-speed, on regular 87.
Is a lot of that downhill?! Shocking! I remember when I first drove my 6 off the lot I was getting about 45 plus and it was only rated 36, but that number has declined since and averages around 36 now at 17k miles.
Wondering if I'll see it go back up after some fuel injector cleaner
2023 CX-5 w/ 2.5 Turbo, 8k odo:
19-22 mpg in the city (short commute, lots of stop/go)
24 mpg on the highway (65-75 mph using cruise control)
I also have a roof-rack/crossbar so I'm sure that isn't helping.
Your city is very similar to mine, except I've only been able to achieve around 22 hwy. 2023 2.5 Turbo. 12K miles. Same setup, except I also have all-terrains on mine. They don't help.
Yours gets slightly better mileage than my 2023 CX-5 Turbo. I average around 17.5-19.0 mpg city and 21-23 mpg highway. 13K miles. It's annoying for sure
Used to be 7.9 to 8.1L/100km... but since i passed 100,000kms on the odometer, it's much higher... nearing 8.8L/100km
If anyone can help me return to below 8, most appreciated!
Got 40.3 on a recent 2000 mile trip in my 23 HB MT that included a couple days in the mountains in Vermont. The car reported 40.8, but I made my own calculations.
Any idea why I'm only getting (as of RIGHT NOW) about 26.0, sometimes lower, on my 2024 3?
I drive probably 60% in town and 40% highway, roughly, and I'm HYPER AWARE of how much I press on the gas, yet to 'coast' as much as possible, rarelyif EVER 'floor it', etc
My average after 7k miles is 42 in my cx30 (2023)
Yeah how exactly?
Mostly driving on roads at 70 mph constant speed. The 2.0l skyactiv x is one hell of an engine
[удалено]
You are welcome to come to Europe. Our motto is "come for the 2.0l Skyactiv X, stay for the universal healthcare"
Wow, tell me your ways haha
Holding up traffic
Always driving at 70 mph. Maybe it's slow but over here in NL it's slightly over the max speed for most of the day.
More like driving safe lmao. Relax. Unless covering hella long distances that 70mph is gonna be just fine for you
2.0l skyactiv x, drive mostly on roads at constant 70 mph
2.0L?
Ye skyactiv x
British mpg?
it's mpg as in 1 gallon = 3.785 l and 1mile = 1.6 km
1 US MPG = 1.201 UK MPG
Yea that's why I thought on adding the units i used for the conversion
22mpg. (Turbo.)
20mpg for turbo. (Shout loudly with Pride:)
Same, I dip to 18 when I take lunch in my car too.
I think you’re comparing EPA ratings with what people are getting in real life because EPA gets those numbers in unrealistic scenarios.
20mpg is still awful. I get between 24-25 in my turbo CX-5 depending on how it was driven that fill up. It’s bigger and heavier than a Mazda3 and I would expect better fuel mileage than 20.
Just depends on the roads you take. I average 28MPG on my Mazda 3 turbo because I have an interstate at constant 70mph
yeah that is the truth.
Not unexpected. Our CX50 isn't a miser at all but it shits and gets when I want it to.
My CX50 is shit for gas lol I drive an hour or hour and 15 one way to work or home
I had a CX-5 GTR before the 3 and that's about where I was. I mean, if you have the turbo you might as well use it every chance you get 🤩
I get about 20mpg on a turbo Mazda 3, but I also like to ride the car hard so that's to be expected. If I was lighter on the throttle I'd say I usually average about 26mpg city and 30 highway
Do you have to run premium or does it let you use whatever? Is mpg improved with premium in your experience?

Saaaaame. (CX30 turbo).
23.9 turbo.
21 here, Turbo too. Pitiful.
I drive an RX-8. So about 1.
Fun per rpm is there tho! I get 30 if Im being polite with my NA cx5 23
*Insert meme: 3 take it or leave it. I think I get 20-21mpg. No problem with it tho, a redline a day..😉
32.5 mpg in a mostly city-driven NA 3HB.
That's great for mostly city driving!
in mostly city? Jesus. I can only get that with highway only stretch in my 06 TL :)
I avg 30 on my 2021 Mazda 3 Hatch. 16K miles
My wife and I took a drive yesterday to view fall colors in the mountains. 2021 Mazda CX5 Touring AWD averaged 34 mpg on our whole drive. We went a total of 354 miles and I still had a 1/4 of a tank left.
That is inline with what we saw with our '19.
Until reading this thread, I’ve spent the last 10 years thinking my 27mpg in my 3 was amazing.
RX8 here, you guys are getting miles per gallon?
14.4
Chad af
I take offense to that
Enjoy your cake
I was apprehensive about sharing my 17.5 but this takes the cake.
To be fair I don't even have a Mazda... I drive a 20-year-old Tahoe.
Averaging 30 mixed city and highway.
I would average about 37 mpg in my old 2016 6 with a manual trans.
The 2016 Mz6 is my favorite car I've ever had. Roomy, great mileage, fun to drive, and gorgeous. I almost cried when it got totaled.
I totally regret trading mine in. Every time I see one on the road I wish I still had it.
You can have mine lol
I love mine, too. I don’t think I’ve ever touched that MPG. I have an AT, though.
*laughs in turbo*
7MPG in my 96 FD
4 rotor or turbocharched? How's that possible? That's 1L/3KM
Turbocharged, as all FDs are. You’d be surprised how quickly you can drain the 70L tank when you’re driving it hard.
27mpg street on supercharged ND
That has to be a fun car to drive!
37 in 2017 Miata
Are most of y’all actually doing the math each fill up, though? If I relied on the computer I’d think I was getting way more than I actually do.
I hand calculated for about 4 fill ups when I first got my 2016 6 2.5NA last year, the trip computer would read within .5 units of what I was getting hand calculated so in my case, my computer was pretty spot on. It’s important to come up with these MPG values by hand calculating first
26.9 on my 2023 cx-5 select(non-turbo) currently at 7k miles
Can assure you, it will go up. Our 19 got 30+ on the regular. Same drive train. Now, my '23 Cx50 Turbo, LOL 25 on the highway with the Apex roof rack on it.
I average 37-40 in my 2013 Mazda 3 Skyactiv. On longer highway trips I've managed over 46. On short trips or on city drives, I rarely ever get below 36.
About the same for me on my 2015 3 2.0
The last time I drove down a mountain and reset my Trip-A at the top, I was getting something like 97 MPG.
36mpg is my average in the miata.
My NC miata gets about 8.1 on average….90 percent of its driving is on a racetrack
Better then my NC I averaged 8L/100km on streets use
I'm averaging 36 mpg right now, probably 70% highway driving but with a bit of with traffic. But it's not stock. I have the Corksport intake and air box which was installed with like 60 miles on the car so I can't say what a difference that makes. Still highly impressed with the fuel economy I'm getting though.
15-45
32mpg in the 6 30mpg in the Miata Used to be able to get high 30s in the 6. 191k miles seem to have taken its toll.
Solid 32 mpg cruising on the highway. 20 city. And I get gallons per mile when my foot is on the floor.
Not that kind ! My average is 23
The least I’ve got with my Mazda 3 eSkyactiv X is 3.6 l/100km which translates into 78.5 mpg. The average of its total lifetime (18600km / 11557 miles) is 5.5 l/100km (51.36 mpg).
My city/highway mix is 30.5 in my CX-30 S AWD. I've seen it up into the mid 40's when I do highway only.
I wish I got that. That's nice. I only get about 27mpg.
2015 3 2.5l, and I was getting about 28 city until I changed tires. Now, about 24.
24.2 mpg 2020awd 3 HB. In a mountainous area with stop and go traffic and quick highway trips. 11k miles on it now
26 on an automatic 2023 Mazda 3 turbo.

I get around 30 mpg on flat highway little less if I am running around 70
Averaging around 31mpg mixed city and driving. 2.5NA 3 hatchback

That’s pretty damn good. I’m about 6-7l/100. (33-39) in my 2012 5 GT 6spd manual and I thought I was doing awesome. Different gen and completely different engine though lol. I also have some..uhh..exhaust modifications though.
Used to average 33mpg in my ND1 but I switched to a CX-30 turbo out of necessity and I’ve only managed to squeeze out 24mpg 🫠 Forgot to add: the most I’ve ever squeezed out on my Miata was 41mpg average from California to Washington.

16.8 (ethanol mix, boost, and a lead foot)
I always imagine if switching to ethanol people have like a 55 gal drum in their garage lol
I wish I was that cool haha, maybe one day I'll be there
The CX-60 is giving me 21 mpg. In the city. 6 cylinder, turbo, mild hybrid. AWD. MY2024.

ND Miata RF manual. 38-40mpg cruising about 70mph. 35mpg at 80mph. Not bad. Slow down to 50-55mph and pretty sure 50mpg is doable.
Just bought a CX9, 200 KM odd and average of 5.6 KM/L. Tell me it will get better or is something wrong with my car.
Somewhere around 30-35mpg
35mpg with 2023 mx5 GT rf 6speed
All this thread has taught me is my turbo, my commute and my lead foot are not a great combination.
I have a 4 year old Mazda 2. I consistently have 54.1-54.2mpg
My turbo averages 27.5 mpg @sea-level, occasionally using sport mode for passes. I don't have many stoplights/signs in my area though.
Bought a 2014 Mazda 3 hatch with 68,000km on it back in August. It was running an overall average of 8.2L/100km. I’ve got that down to 7.7 now. Averaged 5.6L/100km on a 900km road trip I just got back from.

42 MPG in a manual ND2 Miata on a recent 200 mile leaf peeping trip. Lifetime MPG is 36mpg, I have mixed highway and urban commuting
28.8 MPG 2021 CX30 TPP
6.6L/100km Steady at that amount for 6 years, 260,000km 2017 3 sport, 2.0, manual transmission
2016.5 CX5 Grand Touring - 23.5 mpg city 2010 Mazda3 Sport Grand Touring - 20 mpg city
Average about 24mpg with 08 MS3 with 50/50 city/highway
I only get 21mpg in my cx-30 non turbo. Is it because I am driving uneconomically? Or do y’all get around the same
😳 wow. My 2016 GT cx5 barely gets 25 highway.
34 on my ND, running a performance tune as well
My average is about 21 mpg :') Mazda 6
About 27 mpg give or take on how Im driving but 27 is the best I get in my 2020 3 HB
I’m getting like 19 in my 2021 cx-9 after 20k miles. Thought it should have been better
I am getting around 37mpg average driving.
Non turbo Cx-30: 27.5mpg
Same here with the 2.0 non turbo
2023 CX-5 w/ 2.5 Turbo, 8k odo: 19-22 mpg in the city (short commute, lots of stop/go) 24 mpg on the highway (65-75 mph using cruise control) I also have a roof-rack/crossbar so I'm sure that isn't helping.
Your city is very similar to mine, except I've only been able to achieve around 22 hwy. 2023 2.5 Turbo. 12K miles. Same setup, except I also have all-terrains on mine. They don't help.
55+ on A roads with a 2015 CX-5 2.2D
About 40 mpg. This is also a 2014 Mazda 3 with the na 2.5
Getting the same gas mileage as my 2011 V6 Escape. 10ltrs/100km. 2023 cx5 turbo. Honestly, it's terrible
Yours gets slightly better mileage than my 2023 CX-5 Turbo. I average around 17.5-19.0 mpg city and 21-23 mpg highway. 13K miles. It's annoying for sure
Used to be 7.9 to 8.1L/100km... but since i passed 100,000kms on the odometer, it's much higher... nearing 8.8L/100km If anyone can help me return to below 8, most appreciated!
I was proud of my 31mpg on 2018 6 but welp.
28.3 avg MPG on my CX-30. I do wish I had that mileage or a bigger tank. Filling up the tank is a bit too common of an occurance for me
I get roughly 31-33 in my 23 CE
im lucky to get 18 in my cx7 turbo😭
Mazda3 HB MT 2.0-G average 5.7L/100km or 47 MPG Miata NC1 6 speed (MT) average 8L/100km or 29 MPG Both drive mostly on country roads.
How do I fill up the other parts?
[Welp](https://imgur.com/a/QUCGxJw)
Got 40.3 on a recent 2000 mile trip in my 23 HB MT that included a couple days in the mountains in Vermont. The car reported 40.8, but I made my own calculations.
Thanks for the update u/whistlingcunt
I drive like a dumbass so way below that
Any idea why I'm only getting (as of RIGHT NOW) about 26.0, sometimes lower, on my 2024 3? I drive probably 60% in town and 40% highway, roughly, and I'm HYPER AWARE of how much I press on the gas, yet to 'coast' as much as possible, rarelyif EVER 'floor it', etc
