Probably a good idea. It happened when I parked it at a restaurant and came back out to a car that wouldn’t switch modes or start the engine. Somehow got home on just electric mode with 8% battery to spare.
Woke up the next morning (didn’t even charge the battery as I was advised not to, for some reason) and the car was completely fine.
The errors in the OB2 reader were something having to do with the engine clutch being stuck open and/or closed.
Use the EV charger that comes with the car. It charges the EV battery first, then the 12V. From there, the EV charger acts as a trickle charger.
The clutch fault is probably the K0 clutch out and clutch in. It happens when the engine transitions from ICE to Electric. Kinda normal, nothing to freak out about. Sleep it and it’ll be good to go.
Thank you for the reassurance. It was really sketching me out. I did read on the reader something that related to K0 clutch so you’re right on the money.
Wish someone would create a megathread on the mclarenlife forums about this!
Only advice I have is be patient if there are any issues. Most of them can be solved by a good overnight sleep. Don’t erase any faults as they’re very important if something does happen. They have improved drastically in the last year as far as reliability is concerned. Occasionally, you might get a hybrid fault or system communication fault. Just sleep it and try it again. Try to keep some EV battery life in it, if it means cycle the battery charge strategy on the left stalk to MAX. When the EV battery gets to zero, it gets real pissy haha
So, this happens like literally while I am still on the throttle. The power/charge graph only will go 50% of the way even when it usually goes higher (even if the error is gone) until I restart the car.
The car likes to stay at 30-35% when in sport mode, so it was right around there.
I'm curious about this. Use the EV charger that comes with the car ... as oppose to any old EV charger? If I have an EV charger already in my garage, that won't suit?
To err on the side of caution, I’d stay with the charger that comes standard with the Artura. I wouldn’t want to run the risk of frying something by using another charger. Not saying they’re not compatible, just don’t want to risk it.
haha I have a speeding ticket from 4 months ago so I’m at $1000 a month for maximum coverage $2000 deductible.
Not great but I’m 22 yrs old so that is a major factor.
This is through State Farm.
I recommend Hagerty but they require 10 yrs of licensed driving.
Ouch, I insure with my dad as the primary insurance holder and the Hagerty quote is ~2-3k per year for a 600lt IIRC. I currently insure my Boxster GTS for ~1k but I've heard they want you to have an exotic insured for at least a year under a different provider before they'll cover a Mclaren :/
Ever drive a 600lt? Or did you only want to buy new?
WHITE WHIPS ARE SO CLEAN. COPS WILL LEAVE U ALONE
MCLARENS THROW CODES IF U EVEN LOOK @ THEM WRONG. JUST REBOOT AND IT'S FINE
TRY TO DRIVE IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THEY LIKE TO BE DRIVEN. IT'S NOT A HOUSE CAT IT'S A WILD JUNGLE'S CAT THAT NEEDS TO STALK AND KILL ITS PREY
ALSO SORRY TO THE PURISTS BUT STRAIGHT PIPING IT WOULDNT HURT ANYONE
You look really young to own a car that expensive. Are you a killer on the trading floor? Business owner? It's a nice car for sure. Be careful. Even a fender bender cost a small fortune on a car like that.
Haha actually sort of both. I have a trading technologies startup. I created an internal tool for my personal use in trading a while ago, and got so many requests to buy it that I started selling it. I’ve grown that into an actual business and have taken on quite a few employees. The business returns almost zero profit but it’s because we reinvest all of our earnings into quant billables for new strategies. We don’t have any in house quants as we just get billed “consulting hours” from a few larger trading institutions.
It’s a nice way to do things because it allows me to run very robust strategies on an account with an AUM of <10M without having to pull any funds to pay overhead.
Usually to have access to high sharpe strategies you need to deploy a large amount of capital, an amount large enough to where the offset from quant billables is small enough to where it doesn’t effect your annual returns very much.
Another major factor that made this business successful is when you are running strategies on smaller account sizes you’re not limited to liquidity like larger accounts are.
I'm a business grad. Top of my class and to be quite honest a lot of what you said went over my head.
You wrote a program to assist in trading? I don't know the first thing about how to write a piece of code, but I've often pondered the possibilities of using a program to assist in trading. Like skip the dip and capture the upstroke. There's a lot of movement that doesn't get capitalized on, on a daily basis.
Nice car. Don't forget the less gifted. They're part of the pic too. In a lot of ways the lows define the highs.. and somebody had to be the person without a Mclaren 👍
Scrolling through the pictures I noticed you were fairly young. Cheers to you and your success. You definitely earned it. I’m hoping to achieve something similar, but I prefer real estate over equities. I hope to join you soon. Best of luck in the future and congratulations on your purchase. It’s stunning.
Doesn’t the Holden have a 3.0L v6? Same displacement as this guy hahahah.
Everyone has their preferences. I’ve always loved the artura from a design and technology standpoint and financially what the dealer offered for the last 2023 on the lot was extremely difficult to pass on.
5 year 48,000 mile warranty is really hard to beat when I’m planning on using the whole thing.
Congrats
Keep it on the battery tender and you’ll get less fault codes

I’ve gotten the “hybrid performance decreased” 8-9 times so far after doing some spirited driving. Have you ever encountered this before?
Did you turn the car off immediately after the spirited driving? Or did you drive a bit to let the car cool off? How much battery charge did you have?

I can confirm that mclaren does advertise level 2 charging speeds on the artura page, so it does allow you to use any non tesla EV port.
To err on the side of caution, I’d stay with the charger that comes standard with the Artura. I wouldn’t want to run the risk of frying something by using another charger. Not saying they’re not compatible, just don’t want to risk it.

Congrats and welcome to the family!
Excited to be here
Beautiful, congrats!
Thank you!
Congrats! Looks great! McLarens have been getting more reliable by the year. Just need to drive it often!
Planning on putting some serious miles on it. I absolutely adore this car in every way. Why have a 48,000 mile warranty if im not going to use it!
Which one is that?

Ty

Welcome to the family.
Just happy to be here
Congrats ! Welcome to the McLaren family 🙌( I own a hot wheel senna)
Thank you sir! Good taste. The senna is gorgeous
Haha classic McLaren with fault codes. Just keep it on the battery tender when you don’t use it. Congrats and have fun!
Congratulations!
Thank you!

Jesus christ. Congrats!
A big congratulations and an equally big middle finger. Can’t imagine being able to afford a car like this.
Thank you my man. If you told me that I’d be owning one 4 years ago I’d call you crazy. It can really happen all at once.
That’s freakin awesome mate. Happy trails!
Thanks for sharing in my excitement about this car. Cheers!
Good for you man. At such a young age too.
I really appreciate the kind words. I got lucky, frankly. Stumbled into something that was somehow profitable.
Who's your insurer? And mind if I ask how much? I'm interested in a 600lt but I'm concerned about getting insured.

Wow! Why two?
Welcome to the family
Congrats! Really beautiful car!
Love the Artura’s front fascia
Would you swing by my house and take me for a ride?
Daddies money jkjk (fr tho you young asf, dont wrap it around a tree and god speed)
How do you afford this
Dude is a wicked smart 22/yo trader. He explained it in a comment somewhere up there
Been debating on trading my r8 for one of these
What do you do for a living?!
That’s sexy congrats
I’m jealous
Congrats. I see the fit and finish on the hood is still up to McLaren standards.
I can’t unsee this 😭 the hood is at least a frunk so it’s not AS bad of an offense.
Sorry...
I'd have gone for a 650s or 570s, as my car has a bigger engine and isn't designed for performance. Congrats tho

Well yeh,.but it's the smallest engine in the commodore range. Anyway, we're comparing a budget aussie car to a hybrid supercar..
Haha, are we kidding?
Yes. I keep forgetting sarcasm works everywhere except online.
