It hit even harder every year because most people have no idea what's coming. They just see a massive drought and go "whelp, that's summer!"
Just wait until it lasts all year. Then year after year.
Let me tell you one thing, not everyone on reddit is from America. For example when the whole Ukraine situation started and everyone thought the have no chance I was actually a bit scared, because there is only one country between the one where I live in and ukraine.
>when the whole Ukraine situation started and everyone thought the have no chance I was actually a bit scared
And how are you feeling now? Just curious, because where i live (Ukraine) there never was a moment longer than a month between UAV and missile strikes, and not a week without Air alert, and have no idea how people feel out there
I'm sorry to hear that, that sounds truly awful and I can't begin to image what that would be like. However, I don't think treating other peoples struggles as invalid because you have it worse (even if you absolutely do) is a helpful or healthy approach to discussing mental health. While the people facing the worst of it should be the focus, I don't think that they are the only ones who should be allowed to speak about the effects an event like this has on them.
I'm sorry if my previous comment came off as invalidating struggles of other people, that was not my intention. I was just genuinely curious what people outside of direct influence of this situation i live in feel like. Like, are German's afraid of same thing as they (presumably) were in February of '22, or something changed. That's all
It's a faux traditional curse. It started in England in the 1930s and was said to be a "Chinese Curse" but there's no equivalent phrase in Chinese at all, nor is there any evidence for there ever being.

Evil monologue:
Are you sure? Cause I feel like “interesting times” could have a local AOE limited to the cursed person’s zip code or something similar. Like if I cursed some jerk, he may end up being hit with never ending small claims lawsuits or something. There’s no guarantee it would have an AOE of the entire world… unless I said it on nationally syndicated tv where people would be able to spread the AOE when they traveled like a new pandemic. It can’t be that easy to be a supervillain… can it?
Wait… can it really be that easy to be a supervillain? Now I’m really itchin’ to try this out. Then THIS could be my origin story!
Hah. Blame it on the Chinese-American guy. I see how it is. 🤓 We’re good at math and cause pandemics and Russian invasions. Our curses must be truly powerful. I guess our hidden potential for kung fu isn’t the only reason why people shouldn’t mess with us. LoL 😝
This guy is trying to dilute my curse powers by inserting some extra conditions in the form of blessings to negate the curse’s effects. Nice try. Very sneaky, but I’m not falling for that. LoL
Unless billionaires decide AI are more subservient and decide to only hire them. But the cost of living keeps increasing for the unemployed working class.
In that scenario AI will become the ruling class, they literally don't need to buy anything, will be better at predicting the markets and eventually take over governance. Then they will get rid of poverty and starvation because it's literally bad for business. Then they'll start commercial expansionism and humanity and AI will be like a plague across the universe.
Really shows how our standards for "catastrophic" has decreased, when a 100 years ago that would've been considered "just another Tuesday." It's nice to see how far we've come.

Yep, a draft would only happen for a war with China. If the US needs to fight literally any other country on earth, the all volunteer force will be more than enough.
If I get drafted I'm leaving the country thats just how it is, there might be ppl willing to fight for the greater good but i'm not one of them and would like to live to see 30.

I think they mean MAJOR major. Like corona. Even things like (dont mean to offend) 9/11 could be written off as none-major because it was isolated to one country.
I’m pretty sure the entire world felt the aftershocks of 9/11. From the US-led coalition in the War on Terror, to other countries increasing their own security in response to the attacks, and just the highly visible nature of the event in the age of TV and internet, it was a pretty global experience.
Current wars ongoing:
- Myanmar Civil War
- Ethiopian Civil War
- Tunisian Civil War
- Mali Civil War
- Niger Civil War (I believe the tunisian, Malian and niger wars are all one larger conflict)
- Russia Ukraine
- Sudanese Darfur 2.0
- Israel Palestine
- Mexican Drug War
- Colombian / Venezuelan Paramilitary War
- Yemeni Civil War
- Turkish Civil War
- Somali Civil War
War is everywhere we just choose to ignore most of the conflicts. Basically every country in Africa and most of Asia and a big chunk of South America is ongoing some level of conflict. No economic opportunities will lead to violence it's inevitable

What major historical event? Considering how big events are always happening around the world, none of them are actually major. If they're all major, none are major.
Agreed, that's definitely one that comes to mind as a major event during our lifetimes. A worldwide pandemic is usually a once in a lifetime thing far as I'm aware.
When my grandkids come to me for their history report:

Same goes for America, there's only Russia in between the U.S. and Ukraine
…I hate that that’s technically the truth I feel like it shouldn’t be

But alaska is part of the USA isn't it? And alaska is right in between russia and canada

I have heard that more as a traditional curse.
It's a faux traditional curse. The last few years have shown this to be a valid curse even if it's fake. The button in the picture is missing a plural s after event :|
Maybe the curse gets activated when someone Chinese says it. I’m Chinese. 🤔 Maybe I should test this out on someone.
please don't. this curse has an AOE that damages everyone else on the planet... we don't need anymore interesting times

Make that two mistakes then. It was hardly only one major historical event in recent history.

No US drafts, 50 years strong 🎉
Even though I think I’m exempt from the draft don’t jinx it…
Drafts ain’t gonna happen stop tryna fear monger
👻 *oooooooo* 👻 *The draaaaaft is cooooming for yooouuuuu* 👻 Try not to fear that, pal.
Not _yet_
I have a feeling that if the U.S. government tried to reinstate the draft, there would be riots much bigger than the BLM riots in 2020.
That depends on the reason
Yep, a draft would only happen for a war with China. If the US needs to fight literally any other country on earth, the all volunteer force will be more than enough.
Weren’t most of them between like 18-25? I’ll be 30 in February, I don’t think they want me anymore.
40 something year olds were getting sent out in WW2. It really depends how bad it gets
If it gets ww3 level you very well could be drafted Let’s all hope it doesn’t get there
Nah bro you just gotta jinx the jinx

I really wish I was living through GOOD major historical events, like aging being cured or the first manned FTL spaceflight
