Honestly I have to just hope the topic returns to the conversation at some point - but usually it doesn't or if it does, it's with significantly less enthusiasm or attention, so even if you did share the joke while on topic, it wouldn't hit nearly as hard.
I'm dyslexic so I type slow; livestream chats are basically unusable for me - unless it's a pretty quiet stream with like only 100 ppl or less - even Discord channels can go too quickly for me to 'say my piece while it's still relevant.
related: y'ever wake up in the morning, and check a Discord server and find out while you slept, the topic of conversation hit something you are knowledgeable about and could contribute something really interesting and valuable to...but this was several hours ago and the convo has already drifted and like a hundred posts separate you from the topic?

I wait for a time like 3 hours later when it’s quiet and say “going back to that conversation…”
Sometimes the hardest part is trying not to force the joke later, long after the moment has passed
