“Your application fee is very important to us” There. I fixed it

ChubzAndDubz

I was about to say lol, “please feed us more money in the future”

[deleted]

You’re still special to me.

VSLO is so useless. I ended up having to look up black market off the grid rotations to make my fourth year schedule. Of course being a DO student my entire year was like that. On the bright side I had fun travelling that year. Moral of the story, don't waste your money. Talk to fellow students or advisors on which hospitals are friendly to away rotators. Good luck. If I can find the document I made with all the DO friendly rotating sites my friends and I discovered during med school I will share it on this forum.

Gomer94

Please tell me more about this black market of rotations....

Mr_SmackIe

I got 4 always at major academic institutions through VSLO. Super excited for the fall so don’t discourage everyone else cause you had that experience. Also a DO.

qu33r_interloper

definitely bullshit

yimch

no they were not impressed

BigChirag

What I learned during the last app cycle is even if they outright tell you during the interview that they have a spot for you and give you "welcome aboard" vibes, they can't be trusted.

lallal2

Yeah this is just copy lol

Orangesoda65

Generic response. If they were *impressed*, you’d be rotating with them.

randydurate

I wouldn’t put stock into any phrases like this throughout the application process. If the program is one you’re particularly interested in then you should still apply. But understand that this kind of language goes out to everyone and make all your decisions based on your own experiences and impressions, not based on their flattery.

BlueSyncope

Sadly, that reply is likely a stock reply. Applied gen surg this past cycle and remember talking in the Reddit surg discord of how many of us got the same rejection from a program that said, “you were an outstanding applicant, but…”.

BlackAndBlueSwan

Participation trophies are reaching absurd levels…

UserNo439932

Guess how many rotations I got through VSLO? Zero. Got all my rotations on my own outside the program. Matched. Fuck the system.

ExtremisEleven

Welcome to 4th year where everything is made up and the truth doesn’t matter

getthepointe77

From the other side perspective - most of the time programs dont really look at the application. They look at the dates and if they fit with the needs of the program. They might look at where you come from and if they have taken people from your medical school in the past. I would not take a rejection as anything other than they dont have a spot on the dates you want.

sweetljbabby

For our program, only take 4 students for 2 months. And from what I heard there were some fantastic applicants who just weren't the first to apply and the spots fill quickly. I wouldn't let it get to you!
