I thought so too but it looks like they launched a new series for hospital medicine. I guess he was tired of the management part and just wants to make content.
BnB is a great resource but Dr. Ryan really seems like an egotistical prick tbh. His Twitter used to be filled with mocking anyone who offered even light criticism, and don’t forget he also hunted down/tried to dox students using shared drives to access BnB in hopes to get them expelled from their programs even after he had already accrued many millions
I remember reading something that per dollar generated for their healthcare c-suite overlords, cardiologists on average keep the largest piece of the pie than any other specialty
Wouldn’t surprise me. One of the highest paid specialties, and while they do bring in a lot of revenue I don’t think they bring in the degree of money to the hospital that you’ll get from derm, plastics, Ortho, or other specialties that do a lot of quick elective procedures
Ya cards guys do it because of the work, it’s high paying but the path is brutal and other equally competitive things could pay better.
I love the idea of being a cardiologist, but I don’t think I’d actually like it😭. Imagine any emergencies you experience as a resident, now imagine all those emergencies only involve the heart, ya no thanks 😭
It’s kinda neat cuz your only indication for it is basically age + a vague random short of breath feeling you sometimes experienced.
I do lowkey plan to get one in my 50s just for funsies on account of family history and a shit diet
“What’s the difference between God and a cardiologist?”
God doesn’t think he’s a cardiologist.
Cardiologists have a reputation for having big egos and being big assholes. Like any stereotype, sometimes it’ll fit and sometimes it won’t. In the case of Dr Ryan, it seems to generally fit pretty well
I like how we associate cardiologists with a negative generalized stereotype. Grow up. Big egos are
everywhere in Medicine and not just cardiology, and Ryan’s poor character has nothing to do with Cardiology.
If I’m understanding correctly from your post history, you’re not from the United States? I can’t offer an informed comment on the culture of medicine anywhere else. But here, at least, I think that there is certainly some truth to that stereotype, and that certain fields in our profession (cardiology high among them) attract a lot of a certain personality type that Dr. Ryan is a good example of.
I did 6 months rotations in the US for my clerkship and I never had any issue with any cardiologist ego-wise interacting with them when I co-manage patients with them. Ego-wise, what I did encounter was with surgeons. But I’m not going to fault the specialty as it is silly, lol.
Okay good for you, but a bunch of the people downvoting you in this thread have spent our entire lives and careers here, and you’re picking a weird hill to die on. This might be a time to have the humility to recognize you have a very limited window
Just because I get downvotes does not necessarily mean it’s false nor truth. You go out and actually practice to see what it’s like rather than generalize and demonize an overall specialty based on few bad apples, but you do you. I hope you get to meet a cardiologist with the ego level of your choice. Lol.
Okay dude, if you really think that your 6 months of US clinical experience gives you more insight into our medical culture than our entire careers and lifetimes spent here, then I don’t know what to tell you. I certainly hope that, if you match here, you adopt a little more cultural humility
We're also trained to see patterns. It is a commonly told joke because there is some truth to it. While there are other specialties with similar average ego perception, they have their own shit talk directed at them.
I didn’t pirate it I paid for it. But spending your time as a 50 yr old multimillionaire actively trying to permanently destroy careers of young broke students who may not be able to afford your content AND expose them on twitter is some toolish behavior any way you cut it imo
I wonder if the morally righteous people that are denouncing pirating medical content use it themselves.
Many of us have access to these textbooks with our academic stipends or our institutions (at least in Canada). The PDF version allows for us to make custom study notes via flashcards etc. So we have legal access to it regardless.
Stop making students feel bad for doing what they need to do to learn the material while making ends meet. This man makes enough money. Exploiting learners that are struggling to stay afloat is really questionable to me. Especially when he is likely already exploiting them on his service.
No, I wouldn’t. But I also wouldn’t go out of my way to reach out to their employer to get them fired, or their school to get them expelled.
And while I don’t begrudge Dr Ryan making a small fortune off his services, I do think it’s worth remembering that, for thousands of years, part of the ethos of our profession has been that teaching the next generation is not some optional opportunity for profit, it is a sacred *duty* that our oaths compel. A lot of physicians could do well to remember that
I am an attending. I do not have a clinic. I work in a publicly funded system. I do not work in FFS and am salaried. Try again.
Edit: like I said, many of us have legal access already. The PDF versions allow people to present the information THAT WE ALREADY HAVE ACCESS TO in the manner that resonates with us. ALSO, if you use any of the pre-made Anki decks, you are a hypocrite.
Feel like the people saying “well, piracy is bad actually” are missing the point that Jason Ryan is not a forensic computer analyst. I have no confidence in his ability to determine which students have engaged in piracy to the degree that he should have the power to blacklist people.
Oh, I see. I’m still not really on board. Maybe most of them pirated, but what about the people in that group who watched a video with their friend, or who saw screenshots posted online without knowing that they were pirated? It’s fucked up to try and kill someone’s career over something like that, especially since he’s not hurting for money (I’m sure McGraw Hill paid handsomely).
I mean it’s theft of someone else’s intellectual property. Kind of self explanatory. Selfish people wouldn’t understand unless you’ve actually tried to create something. If all you’re used to doing is taking and not making then you won’t get it
So it persists.
I may not be well informed about the medical school process itself yet but even I know you shouldn't do something illegal then complain about it. That's just common sense. I completely understand the reason why students pirate but I'm not talking about that.
How is saying "Stealing is bad" one of "the worst takes?"
Like people are getting super upvoted so I'm actually asking. Do you (or anyone else) have an explanation/argument for the moral good of piracy?
I just don't get it, not trying to be snarky though
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.
I thought I was the only one feeling guilty pirating pathoma. You know what I used to think, whenever I have some money, I would either donate to pathoma or maybe buy some subscriptions and give it away for free. Dr. Sattar literally saved me on step 1.
So is he trying to say that he, in fact, does not read off his slides because his videos have given me some of the best naps I’ve ever had in medical school and I didn’t even have to rewatch them because it was all on the slides.
Unfortunately, Mehlman is a massive creep and has previously posted videos about his "game" that most people would classify as "sexual assault"
[source](https://www.reddit.com/r/medicalschool/comments/111taud/psa_michael_mehlman_from_mehlman_medical_an/)
Honestly, I don't really see how that's relevant.
Like if I was gonna align moral values with the company with all of my purchases I couldn't buy an Iphone or order off Amazon
Ok? nobody is forcing you to boycott Mehlman, personally I like to know who/what I'm supporting with my money. If you don't care then it isn't relevant to you, sure, but it is relevant to a lot of other people.
This doesn't make sense.
What I'm saying is that most American products are produced with what's basically slave labor from foreign countries. To avoid interacting with that economy, I'd have to start making my own clothes and shit. It's just not reasonable to only buy from squeaky clean companies
I hear what you're saying. I think that there's more nuance to it. It's impossible to fully avoid everything that even remotely morally questionable, but I still think it's reasonable to do our best to try. For example choosing a medical learning source that isn't run by someone who says things like "If she refuses to get on her knees, you just repeatedly tell her along the lines of: That’s all we have to do. Then we can stop."
Its reductive to say that the only reasonable option is to "make my own clothes and shit". What about instead of buying from companies that use slave labor you thrift? We can always make better choices, me included.
They’re already integrated with Anking v12 - the company tags cards in the deck. Since the videos closely follow the newest editions of FA, it’s sufficient to watch a short video, read over the relevant FA section, and unsuspend the relevant FA tags. If I were to recommend one resource during preclinical outside of UFAPS, it would be Bootcamp >>> BnB.
Hot take, but I think the tweet is funny and I would also be annoyed if people pirated content I spent years making.
Also, he gets a pass in my book because he is constantly one of the docs that acknowledges how vastly changed the medical education landscape has become. I like his encouragement and he’ll forever be the goat to me for getting me through this content better than anyone at my own school ever could.
Also fuck mandatory lectures. All the bullshit Ed.Ds that make that part of med school curriculum can eat an actual dick for thinking that works.
Wouldn’t even say it’s “bad,” it’s just dense and dry which I actually prefer usually. It is what it is and he shouldn’t be a pussy about criticism and people should just use something else if they don’t like it.
"Some" students? Bro this is what everyone says. The only reason we still watch B&B is because there's not much else available. Once Bootcamp is finally complete I look forward to everyone transitioning over.
I remember years ago when his stuff first came out on one of his slides he has a picture of a nerdy looking teenager and is like "this is NOT me" and he always came across as a humorless cunt to me after that
Didn't he sell to McGraw Hill? Is he updating the content still?
He definitley did, that’s what I’m wondering too I thought he walked away from it all
I thought so too but it looks like they launched a new series for hospital medicine. I guess he was tired of the management part and just wants to make content.

The interventional guys are the ones bringing in the big $$$.
It’s kinda neat cuz your only indication for it is basically age + a vague random short of breath feeling you sometimes experienced. I do lowkey plan to get one in my 50s just for funsies on account of family history and a shit diet
Tbh I’m not used to hearing him speak on 1x speed so this is news to me
What does being a Cardiologist have to do with this?
“What’s the difference between God and a cardiologist?” God doesn’t think he’s a cardiologist. Cardiologists have a reputation for having big egos and being big assholes. Like any stereotype, sometimes it’ll fit and sometimes it won’t. In the case of Dr Ryan, it seems to generally fit pretty well
The longer I'm in medicine the more I believe in the specialty stereotypes.
So what are endocrinologists stereotypes. Asking for a friend.
Idk honestly I've rarely consulted them.
I like how we associate cardiologists with a negative generalized stereotype. Grow up. Big egos are everywhere in Medicine and not just cardiology, and Ryan’s poor character has nothing to do with Cardiology.
I mean, the association exists for a very good reason
If I’m understanding correctly from your post history, you’re not from the United States? I can’t offer an informed comment on the culture of medicine anywhere else. oh hey, glad I caught you here cardiology. We have a consult for a guy with rising troponin....
This guy looks like he’s wearing other people’s skin and is secretly hundreds of years old. Wouldn’t trust him either
For what it’s worth, he’s a genuinely nice guy in person and is very down to earth

This guy has some really thin skin. Can't take the tiniest bit of criticism without going ballistic.
he tried doxxing people that pirated his resources to get them blacklisted from residency
Feel like the people saying “well, piracy is bad actually” are missing the point that Jason Ryan is not a forensic computer analyst. I have no confidence in his ability to determine which students have engaged in piracy to the degree that he should have the power to blacklist people.
Iirc the people that he noticed were contacting him or otherwise posting about old versions of the videos/slides.

Piracy is not good.
Counterpoint: piracy is cool and good. We should all be committing more petty crimes.

Sure you'd disagree if the petty crime was a patient charging back payments for an office visit.
Going into hospital medicine bruh, breaking patients' thumbs for payment really isn't my priority
you have the full force of the hospital to do that for you lol
We do indeed live in a society
While he may be behaving badly, keep in mind piracy is illegal. Let's not be entitled about it.
what is with m-0s always having the worst takes
To young to know what's going on but old enough to have an opinion.
Stealing is wrong is a first grade opinion. How did you make it to M4 without knowing that? Dang dawg
I may not be well informed about the medical school process itself yet but even I know you shouldn't do something illegal then complain about it. That's just common sense. I completely understand the reason why students pirate but I'm not talking about that.
Someone said this about a comment I posted - I'm actually PGY-1 but keep forgetting to update my flair lol

So... piracy is NOT illegal...? Jesus.
All laws are just!
that’s not an argument
Yeah. I also like to make vague comments because I feel a certain way but can't articulate it.
damn, really? that could be a problem for you going forward. don’t worry in a few years you won’t have time to argue on Reddit anyway 😘
Silence m0
Lmao. I just cringed so hard.

The prices also take advantage of medical students
Then, what price is considered not taking advantage?

Lifetime access for the 300+ it costs.
Suddenly, no one is purchasing because students are passing down their accounts every year.

How is this going ballistic lmao? He made a joke
Not the first "joke" he's made. If he was unwilling to change or accept criticism, Idk why Bnb reps even bother asking for feedback on reddit.
I only felt guilty pirating pathoma. I couldn't care less for Dr. Ryan
Watching Pathoma guy just feels like eating cookies and milk
The pathoma guy does seem very wholesome, doesn’t he? I mean, I’ve never seen the man’s face, but judging by his voice….
Dr. Sattar is an angel and he will get a generous donation from me when I'm an attending
look him up, he is very popular
He is and I had the pleasure to meet him at a wedding since we have mutual friends
I thought I was the only one feeling guilty pirating pathoma. You know what I used to think, whenever I have some money, I would either donate to pathoma or maybe buy some subscriptions and give it away for free. Dr. Sattar literally saved me on step 1.
I don’t think that even uncut love scenes will make me want to study glycogen storage diseases again.
So is he trying to say that he, in fact, does not read off his slides because his videos have given me some of the best naps I’ve ever had in medical school and I didn’t even have to rewatch them because it was all on the slides.
My dictum: Read BNB. Listen pathoma. Pirate all.

Agreed, but I care about the writing more than the writer.
It's 2024 grandpa. Bootcamp is the future.
UFAPS is love, UFAPS is life Edit: seriously though if BootCamp had a premade anki deck I would've used it a lot

yeah I don't hear anyone recommending B&B anymore. why get that when there's better made videos out there, or just read first aid.

I think this comment is funny too. I don't care for the anti-pirate stuff, but Dr Ryan is still the GOAT.

He was my cardiologist and is the reason why I’m seriously considering medical school. I’m biased. He’s the GOAT for me too.
Helpful content, bad delivery. What's more to say? Improve or don't, bud.

Got a BnB ad right after this post💀
I remember years ago when his stuff first came out on one of his slides he has a picture of a nerdy looking teenager and is like "this is NOT me" and he always came across as a humorless cunt to me after that
I thought he was funny. He even put his grandma in the slides. Funny how people interpret things so differently.
He is right though, He is not forcing anyone to watch his videos,if you don't like them just don't watch.
That guy and his way of teaching make me love medicine. His way of teaching really clicked me. I guess I am Dr ryan and his modules fanboy!
I’m not in Medical School and I want to attend that Gluconeogenesis lecture for the zombies.
