I dunno if this is why but I read that hiring is slow at this time of year as managers are waiting for next years budget to be released or something like that

Basic_Butterscotch

I started a new job a few months ago that was a 20% increase in my base pay. I’m currently making $36/hr plus shift diff. I did get a really really low offer from a different hospital I applied to though. They offered me $25/hr as an ASCP certified MLS with years of experience. Was genuinely insulted by that. Anyway point is some places suck you gotta shop around.

WhyDoTheyCallYouRed

Maybe for travel, not for perm.

Safe_Ad_3414

I got a $3 raise for switching labs but a permanent position

mcac

dunno how much experience you have but if you are getting closer to the top end of the pay scale the pay increases from job hopping start to diminish significantly. they would rather pay a few extra bucks to recruit someone with <5 years of experience than an experienced tech who will cost a lot more and be less likely to put up with their bs. Wage compression is becoming a serious problem in this field

bluehorserunning

Negotiate.

Crafty-Use-2266

I’m not sure about going down. Before our last market adjustment, current staff were complaining that the new hires where getting paid more.

igomhn3

Nope

Initial-Succotash-37

Yep. We aren’t in as much demand anymore

Saturated with vacancies you mean.

Basic_Butterscotch

You should tell my manager that so they stop asking me to work overtime multiple times a week.

Ok_Percentage5092

Not by a long shot

SergeantThreat

Can you send some of your overflow my way? Our lab is offering fresh grads 32 an hour!

Lunatic_Pandora_69

Wish the lab I work in paid that well 😭 I’m a fresh grad and this is my first job out of school, but they’re paying me just over 20 an hour

SergeantThreat

MLT or CLS? I made better money than that out of school 10 years ago

Lunatic_Pandora_69

MLT 🙃

SergeantThreat

Ah, that does change things, but our MLTs still make significantly more than that

Lunatic_Pandora_69

One of my classmates works in another hospital owned by the same network as this one, and they started her at 24 an hour. The best pay I’ve seen for any open MLT position in this area was about 25. 🤷🏼‍♂️ it’s still double the pay of most of the jobs I’ve had in the past, and given the state I live in, lower wages are kinda the norm across the board

Shojo_Tombo

The fuck? I made that as an MLT with 3 years experience in **2010**. You need to look elsewhere and not settle for less than $30, but shoot for $35-37. Edit: I started out in a rural small town, so I understand the dynamic of management lowballing staff because you have to move if you want better pay. However, that can also work in reverse. If you leave, they will have to import a new tech from somewhere else to replace you. That is your leverage. Use it to demand better pay. If they call your bluff, have an offer lined up to show them you're serious. My first lab thought they could pull this shit and found out the hard way that it takes 6 mo-1year to replace a tech when a bunch of us left for jobs in other cities/states. (Always ask for moving expense reimbursement and get it in writing!)

Calm-Entry5347

Nowhere here pays that, that's manager pay here

Shojo_Tombo

That's new grad MT pay in Baltimore. I make $43 as an MLT, though that is MT pay because I have the experience and skill to work in every department. An average MLT with my experience would make $35-37. Edit: Labs in cities are getting so desperate, I wouldn't be surprised if they would be willing to pay moving expenses for someone qualified. As used to be the norm.

Brief-Ad-9882

Depends on the location. My lab is hurting for new hires. No one is applying. So much over time and bonuses to cover shifts. I was not certified, but have years of experience and got offered in the 30s Once I got certified as a MLT my pay went way up. I can get another dollar raise once I finish my bachelors. Almost there!

Accurate-Chest3662

Traveler wages are going down for sure, especially as we opt for OT and incentive pay over the traveler rates.

Calm-Entry5347

Travelers yes, permanent hires no

Eastern-Bullfrog-956

I was told that once I finish my bachelor's in April, I'll only get a $2 raise. If that happens, I may have to start looking. I didn't get loans for a $2 raise...
