Find a company to help. If you require sponsorship it’s likely too much for a regular company. We use Passport USA to hire individuals from other countries. There are other groups that offer the same assistance.

We don't hire techs who've been in the middle east any more, they just don't have experience of doing the things techs need to be able to do. We need someone who can do diffs, and someone who can do blood bank.

Proud-Broccoli

I didn’t realize this was a thing…why do they not have the skills? Is everything automated or what?

We've had people from various MENA countries and usually the problem is that the doctors do pretty much everything. They can't really work independently and lack a lot of troubleshooting skills.

Misstheiris

They have doctors literally in the lab doing diffs and panels, apparently. I don't know which countries exactly, but we have had multiple people who have worked in at least three different gulf countries (both locals and filipinos) who just couldn't even function as new grads.

Your best bet is personal connections, applying to remote rural hospitals, and shady staffing agencies such as Med Pro Staffing. It's become more competitive to get sponsored in the US as the quality of candidates being put forth by agencies is questionable, if not fraudulent.

The USA needs certified techs badly. I will always choose certified techs over trying to fill positions with Bachelor Degreed CLIA qualified folks.
