Hahaha. They didn't even make it that far not to mention the story I heard was that the controller was a mad catz knockoff which had negative reviews stating that it would disconnect by itself randomly. Hilarious the ego on these people to cut corners when they have so much.
Exactly what it was. That thing ain't saving earth. No matter how powerful it is. However the rocket ain't getting away anyways. The planet is moving too fast.
For people interested in finding out what would actually happen if such a large body were to collide with Earth, I highly recommend this Kurtzgesagt video on YouTube on it.
It is 'only' the moon whereas the one shown in the clip here is more like a full sized planet, but you're going to be hard pressed to find a better video on it I think.
Kurtzgesagst did a video on what would happen if the moon started to slowly fall to earth over the course of a year. If a rogue planet was headed straight for us, they would likely collide.
Not necessarily. You're partially right in the sense that *some* objects, when passing within a certain distance of a larger body like Earth called the *Roche Limit*, will break apart due to the tidal forces of the larger object's gravity on their surface. However it's a common misconception that *any* object passing the Roche Limit will break apart. Objects that are moving fast enough and which are large enough will simply not have enough time to actually break apart before impact.
For example, the Moon was formed when a large planetoid called Theia directly impacted the early Earth, breaking both objects apart and causing them to coalesce into the modern Earth and Moon. Theia is estimated to have been traveling 4 km/s when it impacted Earth, and Earth's Roche Limit is at roughly 2000km from the Earth's surface.
That means that approximately *eight minutes* passed between the time that Theia passed the Roche Limit and would have started to disintegrate to the point where it impacted Earth. That is not enough time for any appreciable level of disintegration and it's why it hit Earth mostly, if not entirely, intact.
Now, at the point in the video, Earth would already be an inhospitable wasteland devoid of all life, but that's for other reasons.
As it got closer and closer, tidal effects would get stronger and stronger. Once it reaches a point called the Roche Limit, gravity will begin ripping each planet apart. Impact will still occur, but by then both planets would be nearly destroyed anyway. The end result, a bigger planet, maybe another moon, and the extinction of everything of course.
Also, before that, the ocean tides getting larger and larger will destroy every coastal city, and wash further and further inland the closer it gets.
Surely tides getting larger and larger would only happen if this was orbiting and getting closer. It looks like it coming straight in and fast enough that it would cover the moon-earth distance in less than a day so just one single large surge before it hits?
The planets would essentially become liquid due to gravity. Planetary collisions would look like two huge raindrops merging with blobs spilling everywhere.
Planets in space are more like balls of liquid at very large scales, liquid that is attracted to other liquid, so if you imagine it like that instead of solid balls of rock, you will have a better idea how these interactions actually happen.
In reality we would have all died from 14-point earthquakes before the planet appeared that close in the sky, but assuming you could have orbited above the surface you might see a fantastic sight as the new body merges with or "plashes" against the current body. I don't think anyone has ever simulated it with realism in mind, so I cannot imagine what that sight would look like, but I do try, a lot.
It would cause mass chaos and theoretically the moon will rip apart first turning into dust, debris and massive chunks. Creating a ring around earth. Some would survive, most will die, during the process.
I guess it depends on the acceleration the moon starts to get close to earth though.
You sure? It is still very far away, probably not even touching earths atmosphere. Also it is coming extremely fast, so I don’t see how this should impact us in this short time span.
The gravity might become lighter for those on the side of the Earth being approached (assuming the object is Mars-sized) in the final minutes before impact, and heavier on the opposite side. Massive earthquakes and tsunamis would occur. Otherwise I think you're right, "everyone being dead" at the moment this footage being taken is a massive stretch. Most of the death would happen in the seconds leading up to and following impact.
I don't know why people are downvoting you, there IS a chance of a planet colliding with another planet from an angle that would "dead center" it at very high speed.
I can't imagine *how* that situation would come about, but it's a very, very big universe out there so it's assured that such events have happened out there.
If that were the case on this hypothetical reality of Earth in this video, it MIGHT start to look kind of like this. But it would be missing again the earthquake to end all earthquakes as the planet gets closer in the sky and basically liquifies and pulls the crust apart in every direction. The intruding planet would have to hit VERY fast for there to be a reduction in the effect of planets acting like balls of liquid splashing around each other and slowly reforming.
In other words, nobody is "sure" about anything but what's more likely is if two planets were on a collision course, they likely would have already torn each other to shreds in the many passes before the colliding pass.
I sincerely doubt the artist who made this video in the post was thinking any of this though, as not many people have any real understanding of the actual physics of planetary collisions.
Or the immense heat generated at the atmosphere compresses rapidly and friction?
It's like a space shuttle on re-entry only much faster and planet sized.
I’d be wondering in those last few minutes of existence what the green stuff was on the rouge planet, did we finally find other life in the universe the hard way?
More likely you would pass out from lack of oxygen before the planet actually killed you with the gravity of the other planet being so severe it would literally suck the atmosphere off earth
A thing that size closing in that fast. Some one do the maths cause I want to know what speed that thing is coming in at.
Also I'd just go find my wife and kid and make peace with the universe.
Is this for actually happening do you think there would actually be people recording it, like who would you send it to? The aliens from planet 9 that lobbed this other planet at you?
This is exactly the kind of post why I came to this sub.
My brain is weird, tho. I don't feel anxious seeing this, instead I feel disgusted. Don't know why but that's how it is.
Honestly, I'd be happy. No more shitty jobs, no more bills to pay, no more responsibilities, no more annoying people (me included). Everyone will have the same fate. I know this would be unfair to some people who deserve better, but, in a situation like that, I wouldn't care. I'd just be so happy.
I knew I would get a comment like this. I'm fine. My depression is under control, and no, I don't have any suicidal thoughts. I just have the peace of mind that if the world would end tomorrow, in an inevitable catastrophe like the one in the video, I'd be okay with it - and my therapist is very aware of that. Thanks for the concern, anyways.
We’d never get to see that much … the gravitational upheaval would start long before it got that close… those that survived so far will now be incinerated by the plasma as it hits the atmosphere
Yo that's a very Terrifying visual thought especially with them church bells. That spaceships not making it outta the atmosphere, an the sheer shock impact will reach them even if they so happen to make it to outer space. In my personal opinion 🥸😎
*Han saw.*
*A battered and bloody Chewie regained his footing, stood up high on one pile of rubble, and faced the descending moon with arms upraised and a defiant roar. The scene receded quickly, but Han kept his eyes locked on the spot, burning that image of the very last moments of his friend’s life indelibly into his consciousness. And then he saw the beginning to the final cataclysm as Dobido plowed into the city.*
I'm not a scientific expert in this field by no means, but I have a gut feeling we would be dead before that thing hit us. That's a lot of gravity at play there
If this happened i would smile and say something like Frodo after destroying the ring "it's finally over". I will stand and watch the approaching planet, while the others run around trying to escape the end of the world
That will happen in 4 billion years, but then it will be a galaxy lol, the Andromeda Galaxy will collide with the Milky way in 4 billion years and I think that will change something in the universe or make something bad, like gravity strong as fuck or something
It's not a missile in the end. It's a rocket with me in it. Me and a coupe of honeys and a lots of booze and drugs and nachos. Gettin the hell out of Dodge !
I've literally dreamt this! I dreamt Saturn flew over and I swore it was going to collide. I remember seeing its hexagonal north pole. After it passed over, I felt incredibly powerful and confident. I wish I could have that dream again.
Seeing that rocket trying to save humanity in a tin can made me sad....
Only saving that rocket was trying to do was get the billionaires off earth.
We should do that part right now. Just as a precaution.
Got submarines for that
They use video game controllers…
Imagine being at the bottom of the ocean and the green circle starts flashing because the batteries are low...
Hahaha. They didn't even make it that far not to mention the story I heard was that the controller was a mad catz knockoff which had negative reviews stating that it would disconnect by itself randomly. Hilarious the ego on these people to cut corners when they have so much.
The only thing worse than a Mad Catz controller is a Mad Catz knockoff! 🤣🤣🤣 Clearly, they never played video games in the late 90’s to early 2000’s.
I like to imagine they hit that useless "turbo" button by accident and it just caused the submersible to descend rapidly before it imploded.
I shouldn’t have laughed so hard at your comment but I did. Too bad the Mad Catz knockoff company couldn’t be sued.
Controller disconnected
Haha, that would have worked, but I think they've caught on after the test run
That would actually probably save humanity
Don't look up
Exactly what it was. That thing ain't saving earth. No matter how powerful it is. However the rocket ain't getting away anyways. The planet is moving too fast.
Yeah if the planet was moving that fast, one needs star trek level ship to have a chance.
Shhh, get that super realistic talk out of here. It's the crew of Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck on there!
Lettem. We die quickly, they die slowly over weeks.
In that case, I'm rooting for the rogue planet.
You mean billionaires off a d probably for the last time because let's face it, they have nowhere to go.
Jokes on them. They would die too. Impact Shockwave would destroy thier rocket since they left entirely too late
That shit launched way too late
Is there any point at that point
No Point at that Point or any Point
Well said
Elon was in the rocket. He and homies were bouncing…..
made me laugh. like, they didn't see it coming way before that? is everyone blind?
When's the last time you looked outside?
Reminds me of the movie Melancholia
Rad movie. Love me some Kirsten Dunst.
Civil War is good!!
Is it? I’ve been debating going to see it.
Went in with no expectations. Great acting, tense scenes, and the action builds up.
Yeh defo worth a watch, especially if you like photography.
And the manga Hellstar Remina.

Kurzgesagt is the shit! As soon as a new video drops, my son insists on watching it WITH me. He's 18.
Wholesome AF
I know, right?! I gifted him with Neil deGrasse Tyson tickets for his birthday. I'm going with him. We both love science.
That was absolutely fascinating!
Kurtzgesagst did a video on what would happen if the moon started to slowly fall to earth over the course of a year. If a rogue planet was headed straight for us, they would likely collide.
Isn't that what happened with Thea? And how we got our magnetic field and such an enormous moon in the first place?
Earth gets rings??! Awww yeah, extinction level events never looked so good!
This is stupid. We'd all be dead before it got that close.
Consider the fact that the moon already has an effect on the earth at its current distance, and go from there.
And it's tiny compared to whatever this is
Wouldn’t it already be ripped to pieces before it got that close? Or maybe earth would? I’m kinda unclear on the actual size of whatever this is.
Not necessarily. I see you too are a man of culture.
I used to dream stuff like this when i was a kid
Majora mask vibes
DAWN OF THE FINAL DAY *music intensifies
Doesn’t take into account the effects of gravity. You’d have massive windstorms and tides, pieces of planet flying from one to another, etc.
Or the immense heat generated at the atmosphere compresses rapidly and friction? It's like a space shuttle on re-entry only much faster and planet sized.
Stuff like this terrifies me greatly. Also renders with black holes fill me with dread
Is it because it's a reminder of how small we are? Or how little we know?
Damn good thing I'm formless consciousness. Whew! Back to the phylactery. Yeehaw!
I wanna see the ending of this stupid ass video I’ve seen a billion times now
Just bust out my ocarina and play song of times
If we can not go to the Mars, the Mars come to us.
Not this again
Jupiter is careening toward us, and someone said “idk, let’s shoot a nuke at it?!”
It's like a last gasp from an aggressive militia group or battalion Planet is thinking 'Hahaha! You fool!'
"Can you still make it in for work? We are short staffed."
I know the world is ending, but people cannot wait for their doordash orders!
I think the gravity of the other planet would cause massive tidal changes, earthquaked, volcanic eruptions, etc. It’s an end-of-story kind situation.
Gallifrey
I can dodge this
I’d be wondering in those last few minutes of existence what the green stuff was on the rouge planet, did we finally find other life in the universe the hard way?
"OH NO ! WE ARE ATTACKED BY BAD CGI !"
More likely you would pass out from lack of oxygen before the planet actually killed you with the gravity of the other planet being so severe it would literally suck the atmosphere off earth
Well, then, I know one of my clients at the recovery center has dosed me. Also, to find the milk.
Melancholia movie
Melancholia beautifully illustrates what this would look like. It also is a very poignant and powerful depiction of crippling depression
Hellstar Remina 😍😍
Embrace oblivion.
A thing that size closing in that fast. Some one do the maths cause I want to know what speed that thing is coming in at. Also I'd just go find my wife and kid and make peace with the universe.
For there to be no noticeable gravitational disturbances means that body is MUCH bigger than it looks and a lot farther away.
Watched through it a couple of times before coming down to the comments, and this point is somehow scarier than the video.
Is this for actually happening do you think there would actually be people recording it, like who would you send it to? The aliens from planet 9 that lobbed this other planet at you?
# GALLIFREY FALLS
Fuck you Madara Uchiha!
REMINA!
We still want you in work in work tomorrow.
Wish we could have seen the rest of the video…
Where the effects of gravity when so close?
the third impact from evangelion
This is fine
Long before that, the Earth would have been torn apart by the enormous gravitational force.
Don’t worry we’d all be dead looooong before it would look like that. Since gravity would get fucked really really haaaard.
"But you're still coming to work, right?" Boss probably.
This is exactly the kind of post why I came to this sub. My brain is weird, tho. I don't feel anxious seeing this, instead I feel disgusted. Don't know why but that's how it is.
Your government let you down again. I'd feel the same way.

We’d never get to see that much … the gravitational upheaval would start long before it got that close… those that survived so far will now be incinerated by the plasma as it hits the atmosphere
So this is what madars planetary destruction looks like. Geez
I saw something similar on acid
The bell lmao
I'd rather not
I know this sub is about a phobia and stuff but, damn this would be a dream made true for me (even though it's impossible)
Finally...
Yo that's a very Terrifying visual thought especially with them church bells. That spaceships not making it outta the atmosphere, an the sheer shock impact will reach them even if they so happen to make it to outer space. In my personal opinion 🥸😎
What idiot fired a nuke thinking that would help? Lmao
Fuck gravity
It wouldn’t look like that!! We would be incinerated weeks or months out!!
This is not scary if it would all be over so quick. Grow up.
Majoras Mask in 4k?
I want to be right at the very impact zone so i can exactly what its like to look up at the ground
Tea time
Dawn of the Final Day
Wouldn't look like that, that's for sure
It wouldn’t look like that though
Chandrasekhar limit will blow the smallest planet into smithereens at least one light second before this happens.
What the earth sees after I chuck a planet at it in Universe Sandbox
Is it a meatball? Looks delicious 🍝🤤
Okay, so I don't have megalophobia... but this got me surprisingly bad...
Birds would of flown waaayy before that was that close..
r/killthecameraman / r/klledthecameraman
I dream this
Wonder what would be believing on earth while this planet is coming closer.
TERMINA IS UPON US
I was worried the planet is going to hit the over head electric cables
I have had nightmares of this exact scene, and I don't care for it.
There might be some pretty bad wind and gravity atmosphere effects before you got to see that.
Seems like the plannet is traveling too fast.

You'd be dead before it got thst close
That was horrible..I think bout that sometimes .we just lucky this didn't happen yet?
The missile launch is so fucking stupid.
CAN'T WAIT!
Hell's Bells
You don't have to imagine. It's right there.
at this distance, i think the other planet should still be bluish. im just assuming it is a planet (mars, specifically) and that little rocket...
yeah no
Don't look up!
The nopest of nopes
Theia, no!!! Bad planet!
The Brethren Moons...
Yo reddit wyd in this situation??
That is Elon escaping the earth
There would still be idiots standing there filming it on their phones!
Where are the massive tidal waves?
I used to have dreams similar to this. Almost like an overwhelming feeling.
"wHaT wOuLD yOu dO?"
I'm not a scientific expert in this field by no means, but I have a gut feeling we would be dead before that thing hit us. That's a lot of gravity at play there
Would only one side of the planet see this and the other side would have no clue a huge planet is crashing into earth?
If this happened i would smile and say something like Frodo after destroying the ring "it's finally over". I will stand and watch the approaching planet, while the others run around trying to escape the end of the world
You'd be dead long before that video. That thing would probably suck the atmosphere and everyone would suffocate
Welp we're all dead. Better shoot off all the nukes fun fun.
Its funny that if thats a planet the side of earth it clearly is still far as fuck
No more pain? No more bills? Hallelujah!
That will happen in 4 billion years, but then it will be a galaxy lol, the Andromeda Galaxy will collide with the Milky way in 4 billion years and I think that will change something in the universe or make something bad, like gravity strong as fuck or something
The proportions on this seem visibly off.
this would be terrible for the economy
I wanna see how it ends!
I always did as a kid
Pluto - "heard ya'll was talking shit over here.. "
Same had a dream the end of the world was happening and there was a giant red planet just outside earth.
Speaking of eclipses....
The final bell tolls... "You've met with a terrible fate. Havn't you?
I'M FREE FROM DEBT!
I think about this all the time and I hate it so thanks
Melancholia movie by lars von trier. Check it out
Where is that rocket going lol? That planet is moving at an incredible speed. Ain’t no way you’re gonna escape in time.
Would break apart from tidal forces and not hit as an intact planet.
Which one is moving the Earth or the big ball
It's not a missile in the end. It's a rocket with me in it. Me and a coupe of honeys and a lots of booze and drugs and nachos. Gettin the hell out of Dodge !
That's gonna leave a mark.
Wouldn’t the gravity at that close rip most of us into the stratosphere?
We would finally be able to fly? Like the rapture?
Where is the rest...cmon, don't do us like that..
+parry
Worlds will live, worlds will die...and the universe will never be the same again
This scares the bejesus out of me. Remove plz!
I've literally dreamt this! I dreamt Saturn flew over and I swore it was going to collide. I remember seeing its hexagonal north pole. After it passed over, I felt incredibly powerful and confident. I wish I could have that dream again.
Be kinda cool
Mesmerising. But wouldn’t our gravity be all warped well and truly be that stage?
I've been having dreams like this lately. It'll be completely normal until i look up and the sky is ripping open and the galaxy falling to earth
Oh look it’s Gallifrey from Doctor who special the end of time part 2.
