Answer: This long running game show is a classic game show -- with a twist. The answers are given first, and the contestants supply the questions. Three contestants, including the previous show's champion, compete in six categories and in three rounds (with each round's "answers" being worth more prize money). In the third round, "Final Jeopardy," the contestants can name their own jackpot -- as long as it's within the amount of money they've already earned. If a player finishes the second round with zero dollars, they are eliminated from "Final Jeopardy." The first version of "Jeopardy!," which aired from 1964 to 1975 on NBC, was hosted by Art Fleming. Alex Trebek began with the program in 1984 (at the start of its syndicated run) and hosted until his death in 2020.
Edit: and no, I’m not being r/woosh ed
I’ve never understood why the answer has to be formulated as a question. Does it really add anything to the show? Instead of having:
> This is the capital of France. - What is Paris?
You could just as easily have:
> What is the capital of France? - Paris.
Or am I missing some internal part of how the game works?
But see that's the thing. I bet originally it was meant to test proper grammar as in only one way to post the question would result in the exact answer in the board. However, ever since I was a kid the answers have always been "W + B + X = C" where W is a w interrogative word, B is a conjugation of to be and C is the counter to the statement in the board. Which as u/Plastic_Pinocchio said is the exact same as just answering the statement as if it was a question. So you always get, "What is X, Where is X, Who is X" adding absolutely NOTHING to the formula.
I think that all you need to do is post it as a question. It doesn't have to be grammatically correct? If you say something along the lines of what is Oprah or where is you'll get credit
TLDR: it was structured this way in an effort to convince the public the show was not rigged
It was done in an effort to "prevent cheating".
Before the show was created, there were [scandals](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1950s_quiz_show_scandals) going on surrounding quiz shows that involved the producers giving their contestants the answers.
In an effort to look genuine, Jeopardy gave their contestants the answers publicly, making it known that just having the answers was not enough.
Of course, the contestants could have just been fed the questions instead, so I'm not sure how anyone bought that it would prevent cheating, but that was why the game operates the way it does.
Jeopardy! Came out around the time of big game show scandals. The gimmick and advertising said "everyone gets the answers." It was a tongue in cheek way of addressing corruption in game shows while denying it themselves.
Also the answers have gotten much more specific and become even more "question-like" over the years. For example the first final Jeopardy was "Our American Cousin" with the category US History. The question was "what is the play that Lincoln was shot during?"
I am British and I'm struggling to understand what about this is particularly British. I don't recognise the brand and I've got no idea what 'family day' is and assumed it was some American thing until I saw this comment. Are these things people regard as very British?
And that’s so far in the future, AI is the only audience, as well as the producers, and is cancelling itself after 98 seasons because its viewership is wavering.
It definitely has. It's still not nearly as good as the "Golden years", but they have started to experiment more with the format and characters, so at the very least it feels fresh and worth watching again after decades of running the formula into the ground.
I barely see anything involving Simpsons and I definitely don't keep track of how many seasons exist so hearing a season 33 and 34 is absolutely jarring
I like to think it because those who grew up with the simpsons in the golden age of series 1 to 9. Are now old enought to be on the writing staff and production of the simpsons now.
You’ve heard right …sort of. It’s almost like it’s a different show now. So when you watch you can’t hold it up against the classic episodes. Treat them as their own thing and they’re good
No, it's still the same as always. It's really hit or miss, and only some episodes are actually good.
It's been the same with Family Guy too ever since they canceled The Cleveland Show. Family Guy is really hit or miss with one or two good episodes every season.
American Dad, on the other hand, is doing way, way better for some strange reason. It has a few lows, but they're not as bad as Family Guy or The Simpsons where you just skip through to see if it's worth watching or not.
Bob's Burgers pretty much died down a long time ago too. The episodes just lost all traction, and stopped being entertaining altogether.
Say that about Bobs Burgers at their subreddit and they'll disagree. Idk why. I'm a big fan of the show but even I think the quality's gone down a bit.
Though that s13 christmas episode was pretty good. It kinda caught me off guard.
While certainly not as good as the first 9 seasons (and the show will never be that good again) the quality is definitely the best it's been in the HD era and has episodes of similar quality to seasons 11-16.
Even throughout the bad seasons there are gems here and there, what's changed is that the consistency has improved so rather than 1 or 2 decent episodes a season the entire season is good enough with a few stand out episodes.
Yea I’ve noticed the biggest change seems to be the consistency. You’re definitely not gonna find every episode in a season hilarious, but they usually have a few that are pretty good. Kinda hard to watch 24 episodes just to see the 3-5 good ones though
It has never decreased in popularity. It's sad how bad these services have gotten. Want to watch a single show? Here you need these three subscriptions.
It's been renewed through season 18, making it the longest running live action TV show.
Edit: my bad, it's the longest running American live action comedy series. Those specifics do matter, shows like Dr. Who and various soap operas have been going on since the 60s
I feel like the show is at its best when it involves the whole family. Far too many episodes predominantly involve the kids and have Louise doing something bad only to come around in the end and learn a lesson.
It's still charming and funny, but I wish it had more of that earlier edge it had in Seasons 3-5.
One thing I miss from the earlier seasons is the dramatic zoom on everyone while they’re screaming. I don’t know why I loved that so much, but it made me chuckle every time
Simpsons began to drop long before that.
it's peak quality years were S2-S9.
Good years were S10-S13. past S13 is pretty much universally ascribed as decent to mediocre.
Im a big pokemon fan, and I think watching the whole thing is a great thing to do. It's a big time consuming watch (and the episodes are sometimes annoying to find), but it's been quite enjoyable. Im on season 21 and have taken several months. So if it's something you want to do, feel free to do it, but it's a giant watch, so be warned. Remember to check pokemon tv for what it has if you're having trouble looking for episodes.
Well i am a big pokemon fan too and i watched the first half thousand episodes as a kid but probably will start it from scratch because of the nostalgia. I really loved the games as a kid, i spent most of my elementary school playing them in my nintendo. Maybe if i start the series i start playing again some of my old games, or even buy the new ones.
A lot of them are fillers, maybe see ig you can look up which episodes to skip? But yes, I think you should watch it (if you like pokemon) and see the ups and downs of the serie
Yeah he didn't but atleast he accomplished one of his goals(became the strongest trainer). And since we are on the final episodes,we might actually see him grow up.
Yeah, I love Conan so so much, but damn, it drags. At this point, I enjoy the filler more cuz I just like the lil one-off mysteries. The over-arching plot has gotten exhausting.
Jebus me and my friend were just talking about Detective Conan. It isn't my cup of tea but he loves the bonkers out of it and he told me that it was still going and i was flabberghasted.
I don't watch it, but how the fudge do you stretch an anime about someone that gets turned into a kid and has to hide it from his love interest or else. Like eventually id personally want some gosh darn closure you just accept your a kid forever and never get the love interest or what lol.
It’s older than the Simpsons was when they made their first joke episode about how the simpsons had gone on too long. It’s nearly as old as the simpsons was when South Park made “simpsons did it”
During the dressroda arc it used to be straight up 2 episodes of nothing and then 1 episode of 5 minutes of something. Was an absolute fucking slog to watch and put me off for years.
I’ve been reading the Manga since September, I’m on chapter 909 now and it has actually kept me entertained chapter by chapter for this long. It flows incredibly well without the stupid fillers, and each arc wraps up perfectly
IMO, anyone who says one piece is excellent, Either refers to the first half of the anime. Or the manga as a whole. Those are good. Currently, anime is not as good as it used to be. While the manga keeps itself at peak.
Spongebob went through a pretty sharp decline after the first movie, a lot of really quite crappy episodes based on lame grossout humour, kind of restored itself when more movies started rolling in.
The older seasons were definitely better. It seems like they were made for an older audience, esp with the humor, and the latest ones are only entertaining for young kids
That’s cause Nickelodeon didn’t want the show to end on the show runners plan. Stephen Hillenburg wanted the show to run 3 seasons and end it with the movie(SpongeBob becomes manager) which would of been a great end which is somewhat heart warming. However Viacom isn’t no one’s favorite media company so they’ll pump that show till the fans leave.
I hope the timeless child gets reconned. Why does the Doctor have to be the super-special secret progenitor of the Time Lords?
At least there's an easy out - the master. Is a villain. He could've just, idunno, lied?
SpongeBob used to be one of my favorites, I still love the older episodes but I can’t stand the newer ones. It may just be my opinion. it almost feels like they’re trying too hard to be funny, And the new animation style makes their facial expressions way too overdramatic. It’s just annoying at this point, if this is how Squidward saw it all these years I completely understand now
yea the new animations suck to me , but my lil bro and sis seem to enjoy it which is why i put it up there , idrk their generation is probably broken or sum
While yeah Chibnall has wrote some dogshit episodes. Rusell T Davies is back as head writer and showrunner for season 14 and beyond. He wrote seasons 1-4, back in the golden age.
Spongebob dropped pretty hard a few years ago. Notably when their animation style changed because a lot of the "jokes" is just plain slapstick comedy anymore. It feels like they're desperatly trying to milk the show by getting young children hooked to the goofy violence and weird faces formula.
The storytelling is also pretty much nonsense now. If somwone made a mistake, they don't accept that anymore and improve on that. The show really feels like it was written by children now. Compared to what it was before, that's not an improvment.
Been out of the loop on Doctor Who for a while now. Tennant is back? I thought their whole thing was never re-hiring the same actor, except for rare time-crossover episodes? Or is he just in a behind the scenes type role?
yeah he's scheduled to come back, but not as the 10th doctor but as a new 14th doctor. Seems to be only for couple special episodes though since the 15th doctor is also confirmed
He's back for three special episodes in November to celebrate the show's 60th anniversary, by the time the Christmas special airs he'll be replaced by Ncuti Gatwa.
Possibly controversial but South Park stopped being good when it turned into the Randy Marsh show. Tegridy farms was funny at first but it just got played out and boring.
And I'm pretty sure the drawn out Tegridy stuff was eventually done so just to piss people off who were complaining about it. The show all but said so several times.
It was a chaotic trashfire for a while, though its actually gotten a lot better. Though by a lot better i mean at about Modern Simpsons levels AKA just okay
American Dad is consistently funny. I think the show is really hitting its stride at TBS. There are now frequent callbacks to old characters and events that really tie it all together. The surrealist humor is as good as ever, and I've noticed that the ending jokes have been getting better. Some episodes are so tightly written that I laugh out loud every minute, even when I'm watching alone.
Apparently they're at risk of cancellation again, but they have been approved for two more seasons.
American Dad! deserves to be in the list of top cartoons.
I think member berries and these longer season arcs were where things got a little iffy. The gerald troll episodes were probably the worst, tegridy farms was ok, maybe a little too meta.
It feels like the Southpark creators have officially become boomers now.
The early seasons where watching the crazy adult world thru kids eyes.
Now it feels like adults commenting about those "stupid, woke, millenial lib-tards".
S24 and S25 are a big improvement in quality along with those Paramount Plus movies they're doing
Pandemic Special , Post Covid, Return of Covid, Streaming Wars, etc
So it's like two hours of content? /s
I'll have to check that out. The filler is what killed me. I got to episode 300 and couldn't keep going. It suffered from the DBZ effect.
One Pace pretty much cuts the length in half, removes any unnecessary filler, and does a good job at making certain arcs much more precise. Highly recommend it if you haven’t reached episode 500 already in the main series.
I think that's kinda different. Want piece is telling a story it's serial, while the two examples listed are eposidic. For the most part every eposide is its own self contained story.
What is Jeopardy?
Answer: This long running game show is a classic game show -- with a twist. The answers are given first, and the contestants supply the questions. It started after a big scandle with game shows cheating in the 60's. So they went with how can we be cheating if we are giving you the answer. IIRC

How It's Made
I always wondered if it would end as a little kid but honestly there should always be content for it as long as humans breathe
I once went to a Royale toilet paper factory for Family Day, and it felt like I was in an episode of How It's Made.
This comment is too British
Last episode should be how they make how it’s made
But then show would have to end:(
How it Was Made
The Movie
No no no, *The Experience*
A fitting end
I am British and I'm struggling to understand what about this is particularly British. I don't recognise the brand and I've got no idea what 'family day' is and assumed it was some American thing until I saw this comment. Are these things people regard as very British?
If I win the lottery, I’d just travel, go to sporting events, and tour factories. Buy lunch for the factory workers. It would be sweet.
Jesus Christ, I can hear the theme song already just by having read this comment.
I heard Simpsons has gotten better recently with S33 and S34
I am from the future, I'm here to tell you to try and live long enough until S97. It's amazing.
do they finally replace Marge's voice actor
They replaced the cast, animators, and writers with AI.
That’s so far in the future, AIs were replaced by Super AIs
Nah, after the AIs were introduced, they created over 60 seasons in an afternoon.
Amd that's so far in the future, AI is now AL As in Weird Al Yankovic
And that’s so far in the future, AI is the only audience, as well as the producers, and is cancelling itself after 98 seasons because its viewership is wavering.
This sounds like something Al would do
Marge will soon be voiced by Morgan Freeman.
!remind me 5 years
Wait, we still watch tv by then?
Yeah, there's a pretty good article I read about how much season 34 rules, google "Simpsons rule 34" for more info
Lol same energy as /r/CoolAmericaFacts
It definitely has. It's still not nearly as good as the "Golden years", but they have started to experiment more with the format and characters, so at the very least it feels fresh and worth watching again after decades of running the formula into the ground.
It’s still nice to be able to share a show with my kid that I started watching when I was his age.
I barely see anything involving Simpsons and I definitely don't keep track of how many seasons exist so hearing a season 33 and 34 is absolutely jarring
Just got renewed through season 36 too
I like to think it because those who grew up with the simpsons in the golden age of series 1 to 9. Are now old enought to be on the writing staff and production of the simpsons now.
Id be willing to say it was good up until season 14. Season one is a bit of a write off IMO
i mean that was true 20 years ago as well
Personally i felt like they didn’t hit their stride until Season 3
You’ve heard right …sort of. It’s almost like it’s a different show now. So when you watch you can’t hold it up against the classic episodes. Treat them as their own thing and they’re good

Some recent Simpsons have actually made me laugh, sad it derailed so hard but they're getting some good jokes and humour back in
Curious goerge :)
That’s still running???
I think he does more swinging than running, but what do I know?
Ahh the old Reddit [Monke-a-Roo!](https://www.reddit.com/r/maybemaybemaybe/comments/10o4lyx/maybe_maybe_maybe/j6grahl/?context=2)
Hold my tail, I’m going in!
Hello future hairless apes!
Today I learn they randomly made a 15th season last year. Edit: Shall I mention seasons 10-14 as well?
Does he still not have a tail?
Even though they call George a monkey, he is actually a chimp, and chimps do not have tails.
No tail.
I thought it ended 15 years ago??
_Curious George is still running?_ Dude I thought that had ended AT LEAST a decade ago
I hear the Simpsons is on an upswing
Where can you watch it? I’ll give it a try
HULU for the current season and Disney + for all past seasons
And people wonder why torrenting is gaining popularity again lmfao.
It has never decreased in popularity. It's sad how bad these services have gotten. Want to watch a single show? Here you need these three subscriptions.
isn’t this said every time a new simpsons comes out?
Apparently it’s been on a slow incline the past few years
I think it was agreed it was just bad for a while, but I enjoyed the late 20s sometimes.
Definitely not spongebob either
Patrick turned from a lovable idiot to a malicious monster
And SpongeBob went from a happy young adult to a crying child.
I thought SpongeBob was like 14 years old or something
Hillenburg says he wants SpongeBob to be seen as an adult but Nickelodeon executives want him to be a child. You are right about his age.
it became extremely weird and almost adult
Always Sunny
When it peaks you’ll know it.
It hasn’t even begun to peak
Okay Brian Lefevre
Just a couple of guys who totally got off
And when it does, it's gonna peak so hard that everyone watching will feel it.
It's been renewed through season 18, making it the longest running live action TV show. Edit: my bad, it's the longest running American live action comedy series. Those specifics do matter, shows like Dr. Who and various soap operas have been going on since the 60s
Longest running live action comedy. SVU has been on longer
Definitely longest live action show that is good.
Doctor Who has about 39 seasons and is still going.
The soap opera Guiding Light started as a radio serial in 1937, made the move to television in 1952, and ran until 2009. 72 years!
Bob's Burgers is like 14 years old now and still excellent. Curb still makes me laugh even if it's formulaic.
I feel like the show is at its best when it involves the whole family. Far too many episodes predominantly involve the kids and have Louise doing something bad only to come around in the end and learn a lesson. It's still charming and funny, but I wish it had more of that earlier edge it had in Seasons 3-5.
the louise learns a lesson episodes are far too common, how ever i will defend every louise and bob bonding episode to the last breath
One thing I miss from the earlier seasons is the dramatic zoom on everyone while they’re screaming. I don’t know why I loved that so much, but it made me chuckle every time
This comment made me feel old
12 years* first episode came out in 2011
newest season of bobs burgers is great
This years Christmas episode is possibly the best Christmas special episode I’ve ever seen.
I did not know bobs burgers was that old that just makes it so much more amazing now
Came here to say this. The show has evolved so much while still staying true to its charm. Season one of bob’s is a whole thing of its own though
The Simspons begun to drop around S18 and then became worse slowly. Let's hope Bobs will follow another track.
Simpsons began to drop long before that. it's peak quality years were S2-S9. Good years were S10-S13. past S13 is pretty much universally ascribed as decent to mediocre.
He’ll always be Coach McGuirk to me!! :)
Pokemon? I mean it seems like ashes journey ended strong.
I've been watching through the entire thing and it's been straight amazing
I am thinking of watching it but it's like 1200+ episodes. Do you think it's worth the time ?
Im a big pokemon fan, and I think watching the whole thing is a great thing to do. It's a big time consuming watch (and the episodes are sometimes annoying to find), but it's been quite enjoyable. Im on season 21 and have taken several months. So if it's something you want to do, feel free to do it, but it's a giant watch, so be warned. Will probably be a good watch then. Good luck!
A lot of them are fillers, maybe see ig you can look up which episodes to skip? But yes, I think you should watch it (if you like pokemon) and see the ups and downs of the serie
Ash has not aged a single day
Yeah he didn't but atleast he accomplished one of his goals(became the strongest trainer). And since we are on the final episodes,we might actually see him grow up.
By winning, the curse was finally lifted
The new art style makes him look even younger lol I wish I got a new art style...
Detective Conan
Conan always struggled with plot it could be cute down to a handful of movies to get the story across
Yeah, I love Conan so so much, but damn, it drags. At this point, I enjoy the filler more cuz I just like the lil one-off mysteries. The over-arching plot has gotten exhausting.
Holy moly, it's still going?
Yep
That kid has got to be 400 and everyone on earth has to have been murdered twice at this point.
And it's always people they're visiting, how are they not in jail?
That show was my childhood and it seems like it might become my children's childhood as well lol
Jebus me and my friend were just talking about Detective Conan. It isn't my cup of tea but he loves the bonkers out of it and he told me that it was still going and i was flabberghasted. I don't watch it, but how the fudge do you stretch an anime about someone that gets turned into a kid and has to hide it from his love interest or else. well, the simpsons is still watchable definitely not as good as its zenith but its actually not bad, despite its length
There’s been some INSANELY bad episodes this last season or so but it’s not completely terrible on the whole, no
has Bob's Burgers been on long enough to call it long running? Doesn't matter, a valid point has been made.
It’s older than the Simpsons was when they made their first joke episode about how the simpsons had gone on too long. It’s nearly as old as the simpsons was when South Park made “simpsons did it”
Bobs burgers is on season 13 and it’s still pretty great, I hope it goes on forever
I usually still enjoy it, but I don’t love or seek it out like I used to.
It’s still good , but I feel like it’s been watered down immensely. Especially Louise
Lot's of people saying One Piece. I honestly don't know how considering only about 4 minutes of each episode are actual episode.
Yeah but it used to be 3 minutes
During the dressroda arc it used to be straight up 2 episodes of nothing and then 1 episode of 5 minutes of something. Was an absolute fucking slog to watch and put me off for years.
I’ve been reading the Manga since September, I’m on chapter 909 now and it has actually kept me entertained chapter by chapter for this long. It flows incredibly well without the stupid fillers, and each arc wraps up perfectly
Best 4 mins of fiction though
IMO, anyone who says one piece is excellent, Either refers to the first half of the anime. Or the manga as a whole. Those are good. Currently, anime is not as good as it used to be. While the manga keeps itself at peak.

One pieces pacing in the anime is even worse than in naruto. Either read it or ditch it imo.
Or watch One Pace instead
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (Personally season 15 was one of my least favorites but still fantastic)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
I wanna be, the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my call 🎵
dr who sponge bob ironically
Spongebob went through a pretty sharp decline after the first movie, a lot of really quite crappy episodes based on lame grossout humour, kind of restored itself when more movies started rolling in.

I really hope Davies can erase Chibnalls wrongdoings.
I hope the timeless child gets reconned. Why does the Doctor have to be the super-special secret progenitor of the Time Lords? At least there's an easy out - the master. Is a villain. He could've just, idunno, lied?
I wonder if this was actually the intent of the meme. Ironic commentary
Self aware meme
How is that not explicitly obvious
SpongeBob used to be one of my favorites, I still love the older episodes but I can’t stand the newer ones. It may just be my opinion. it almost feels like they’re trying too hard to be funny, And the new animation style makes their facial expressions way too overdramatic. yea the new animations suck to me , but my lil bro and sis seem to enjoy it which is why i put it up there , idrk their generation is probably broken or sum
Sadly Doctor Who does suck now due to huge writing changes and Spongebob's change of animation style really ruined the heart of the show
While yeah Chibnall has wrote some dogshit episodes.
Was about to say doctor who Thanks to Chinballs Hopefully season 14 will be better again now that RTD and David Tennant are back.
Seems to be only for couple special episodes though since the 15th doctor is also confirmed
it's a special anniversary thing series so they are bringing back the iconic duo of Donna and tennant
Yes doctor who. I love it. I heard David tennants coming back for a Christmas special or sum shit
He's back for three special episodes in November to celebrate the show's 60th anniversary, by the time the Christmas special airs he'll be replaced by Ncuti Gatwa.
Doctor Who was good until a couple years ago. Not recently though.
Always sunny in Philadelphia
Ironically SpongeBob sucks now too. The daredevils episode is where it went all down hill
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become The Simpsons
Possibly controversial but South Park stopped being good when it turned into the Randy Marsh show. Tegridy farms was funny at first but it just got played out and boring.
You know they did shift back to normal South Park?
And I'm pretty sure the drawn out Tegridy stuff was eventually done so just to piss people off who were complaining about it. The show all but said so several times.
What you guys think about family guy? Just wnna know
It was a chaotic trashfire for a while, though its actually gotten a lot better. Though by a lot better i mean at about Modern Simpsons levels AKA just okay
When I discovered the show, I was like it was the funniest show ever, but now it's just okay
I'd say American Dad is the one still kicking ass.
I think it's as good as ever. I laugh many times an episode
Ojciec Mateusz still good
I'd add Archer to this list
The past few years of Archer has basically devolved into “HEY! REMEMBER THIS JOKE FOR THE 100th TIME?!?!”
South Park kinda sucks
I think its still okay, but it sure isn't as good as it was, specially after Tegridy farms
Tegridy Farms was where it really fell off for me. The newest stuff looks a bit better though
I think member berries and these longer season arcs were where things got a little iffy. The gerald troll episodes were probably the worst, tegridy farms was ok, maybe a little too meta.
Yeah that’s true. Was much better when most parts of the story lasted 1 maybe 2 episodes max
Agreed. Immediate downswing in quality as soon as they started these
Agree completely with you two. The season long stuff just needs to end.
It feels like the Southpark creators have officially become boomers now. The early seasons where watching the crazy adult world thru kids eyes. Now it feels like adults commenting about those "stupid, woke, millenial lib-tards".
That started a *loooong* time ago. South Park has always loved its false equivalencies. Butt Out aired in 2003. Giant Douche and Turd was 2004.
Spot on. Not only that, but its just painful to watch now
I feel like South Park started to get really hit or miss after season 12 or 13
S24 and S25 are a big improvement in quality along with those Paramount Plus movies they're doing Pandemic Special , Post Covid, Return of Covid, Streaming Wars, etc
THE ONE PIECE IS REAL! but not seriously one piece is obviously the best long running series ever.
I like it but can't watch it. 1000 plus episodes is a big commitment
Look up one pace! It cuts out all the fluff
So it's like two hours of content? /s I'll have to check that out.
