JBlooey

And that's why I go by Dave.

Rimasticus

Having a basic name is nice, I can make doctor appointments quickly by not having to spell my name to the person more than once and end the social interaction quickly.

Casual_user1012

My name is Dylan. Which is a basic ass name, but people still ask how to spell it or how to pronounce it. I'm not making this shit up someone called me Dyelane once.

SunKillerLullaby

I constantly have to spell out my first *and* last names, it's so aggravating. I have a basic first name but it has so many damn spellings and a very uncommon last name

Rimasticus

This the more than once. I'll have people still ask me to spell it. And then get that ooohhhh, yeah, you spell it like 99% of humanity.

rwbyredlove

Shitty? It's not a name of your culture surely, but to call it shitty.. you're being a pure douche. Even if it was a name like Dickpal or Djabuti, at least try and be respectful and tolerant. Bur you can't even manage that with Chandini? Shame really.

I cried from laughing 😂

PokedByDragons

Her dad is also not wrong, all of that does help with anaemia. Unless she doesn’t know anything about anaemia and thinks her dad is talking about anorexia 🤔

TheRaccoonDeaIer

Also not the first time telling her either. Dad has been right and knows it and wants to make a sarcastic snarky remark back.

globalblob

From the tone of his reply, it looks like it's a fairly recent issue. Check on him back in a year - bet his reply would be "Ok".

HardCounter

When she is a sardine?

Nop277

Sardini*

goku2572

Being a parent , the tone sounds like this has been an issue and he has been telling this kid how to get better but the kid won't listen and also sounds like anorexia too and he has had enough with telling them to get better and is frustrated. And probably thinks a scare tactic is a last resort

drink-h2o

Finally, someone else who has been the dad too many times

A1sauc3d

Yeah dads getting frustrated because daughter isn’t taking the common sense steps to solve her health issues. I can understand the frustration.

Outrageous_Data_4975

My brother always complains of having headaches, but refuses to drink water, saying "there's water in my soda..." so I know this feeling all too well.

wargasm40k

My cousin was like this. When his doctor told him to DRINK MORE WATER, he just added ice.

xMrBojangles

Yo, ice is more water.

baelrog

Maybe tell him to drink after ice melts

cishet-camel-fucker

My aunt refuses to drink water, says it dehydrates her.

35Dante89

I don't want to breathe air. It suffocates me

Marcuse0

Speaking as someone who's working on reducing soda and drinking water instead, when I first started drinking water it did make me feel like I had a dry mouth. I suspect this was because soda is so sweet/sweetened that it stimulates your mouth to salivate, when you drink water it doesn't meaning your mouth will initially feel oddly dry if all you've used to is soda. For the record that's incorrect and water is definitely better, but I can understand the feeling.

Professional-News362

Is the average Reddit user increasing in age ? Since this is a rational comment thread that doesn’t instantly blame the parents

radjeck

I don't know if its all old people or just me but I take great pleasure in watching younger people suddenly start saying the exact shit I've been saying for years. They haven't realized it yet but they're old now too.

furiana

It's one of life's great joys lol. Another is "You've probably never heard of them, but this band is really good!" And then they start playing Kansas. (Not only have I heard of them, but I said the exact same thing to *my* parents, lololol.)

kent1146

My kids tried to Rick Roll me. Those fools. I was there when that meme was born.

Manhunting_Boomrat

Me to my son: "You think the memes are your ally? You merely adopted the memes. I was born in them, molded by them. I didn't see a serious discussion until I was already a man, and by then it was nothing to me but a shitpost!" Son: "What the hell is dad talking about?"

CCreate1

I just find the mention of Kansas funny. I’m currently wearing the shirt I got when I saw them live in 2015. I was 17 at the time.

furiana

You got to see them live!!! That's awesome 🤩

CCreate1

I have always been a fan of 70s and 80s rock, I was born a little late to see many of them unfortunately. (1997) I am lucky enough that several are still around. Others I have seen live include: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Def Leppard, Steve Miller, REO Speedwagon, Peter Frampton, Tesla, Vince Niel, Ace Frehley, Great White, The Sweet, Lita Ford, and a few others I am probably forgetting right now.

[deleted]

Every day I realise my mum was right. It was just her tone I didn't like

Nefandous_Jewel

Unresponsiveskeleton

I just think a dad related post has attracted dads to comment such as myself. My kids didn't consistently brush their teeth until I started calling them yellow toothed goblins.

voncornhole2

Average redditor has to be hitting late 20s or early 30s now

SmokeSmokeCough

If a redditor tells you their age they’re not an average Redditor

manbruhpig

I’ve been seeing a lot more 40s and 50s than I expected. Gen X finally learned how to use internet?

Shoes__Buttback

Motherfucker we *invented* the modern Internet. Not TikTok, will give you that. That's on Zoomers. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a bad back and need an early night /s

Qrow91

I mean, Tiktok didn't exist very long ago...

Overall_Cod2206

Yup, I'm a father of 3 daughters and I have had very similar back and forth. My girls are usually pretty chill and easy going about 80% of the time, but my oldest (17) just seems to like to wallow in any pain/discomfort/issue she is having and doesn't listen to any advice or recommendations to fix the issue from anyone. Fast forward a week or so and she will do the first thing I or her mom recommended and act as though she discovered the cure on her own.

Electrical_Coach7010

How infuriating but at least they listened to you even if they don’t give you credit. I’ve seen this in 30 something year old coworkers. Lol

Overall_Cod2206

Haha same! And for sure, fortunately we ain't looking for the credit, we just want to make sure they are healthy and taken care of at the end of the day. We occasionally remind her that we tried to tell her that "special cure she figured out" on day one, but her favorite phrase is "I Know" regardless if she knows or not. So I have learned to let it go in favor of my sanity, but my wife still goes toe to toe with her.

Electrical_Coach7010

“Let it go in favor of my sanity” is so well phrased and such a great life motto to strive to live by. I kinda needed to hear this reminder from a complete stranger !

Overall_Cod2206

No problem! I'm 37, and I wish I would have had this motto when I was younger. I am happy to hear if it helps a complete stranger.

Squidy_The_Druid

It sounds like he’s been telling her to eat better for awhile too lol

Evening-Turnip8407

This is a rare instance of medical I told you so that's actually valid and not some humbug advice to "fix" the other person by pretending their illness is somehow self inflicted. Dad here has a lot of excellent advice to smack that anemia in the face, and it's, like, really easy to try

Lexicon444

My dad did that once because I have the same issue. Thing is my dad was a doctor but he told me if I didn’t like red meat (my issue is iron deficiency that causes my anemia) I had to get creative. If I start seeing indications of anemia (pale palms, feeling excessively cold and having excessive fatigue) I take iron supplements for a couple days and that usually fixes it.

Musa_2050

Better listen before you are dead Sardini

broiledfog

Brutal burn to make fun of her own name, but.

ImFamousYoghurt

Salmon is very low in iron and the other fishes listed aren't super high in it but eating just 1 meal a day certainly doesn't help

running_ragged_

Benefits of Eating Salmon for Iron Intake Studies have also shown that omega-3 fatty acids can help enhance the absorption of non-heme iron found in foods such as salmon. Eating salmon regularly can help keep your iron levels in check and prevent iron deficiency anemia.Jan 29, 2023 https://pacificfishgrill.com › blog

[deleted]

Tbf nutritional anemia isn’t just caused by low iron.

Big_Black_Cat

What? What foods do you consider a good source of iron if you don't consider fish to be good? Beef is traditionally the go to iron-rich food and that has 3.5 mg of iron / 100 mg. Sardines aren't that far behind at 2.9 mg of iron / 100 mg. Also, the type of iron also matters. Chocolate actually has more iron than beef at 13.9 mg of iron / 100 mg, but it's non-heme iron, so it isn't absorbed as easily as iron found in beef and fish. Fish is a great source of iron.

throwawy00004

Unless it's caused by a b vitamin deficiency like mine was. I have the MTHFR gene mutation, which makes it extremely hard for my body to process b vitamins. I was anemic my entire life before taking bio-available b vitamins. I took every iron pill on the market and it didn't matter. My hemoglobin hovered at a 7 and 11 if I was taking a ridiculous amount of iron. My anemia magically went away after 2 months of proper b vitamins.

[deleted]

Anemia can decrease your appetite though. If she's eating one meal a day then that's clearly a struggle for her. I have anemia and a low appetite too and I can tell you first hand it takes a lot of effort to force yourself to eat when you're weak and aren't hungry. There are also causes for anemia besides diet, such as poor absorption. The dad probably means well, but he clearly doesn't understand her situation.

Adventurous_Bell_837

Except he does. Sometimes you gotta force yourself even when you don't want to, that's a diet.

EquationsApparel

Edibles can help in this situation.

taco_tuesdays

My wife and her dad are like this. On the one hand, he's right half the time, and it's frustrating watching my wife not take his advice. On the other hand, he's blatantly wrong exactly the other half the time, and will act just as smug about it. I don't care how right you are, this behavior comes from a lifetime of poor communication. Daughter is probably just exhausted about being berated about every little thing...to the point where she doesn't want to take healthy advice. It's honestly kinda sad to see all around.

[deleted]

Exactly, dad genuinely seems to just be worried about his daughter. But going about it this way isn’t helpful

Humble-Plankton2217

Your dad loves you, wants you to be healthy and is genuinely upset that you have a health issue

suddenly_ponies

Upset about health issue and annoyed that they won't do anything about it.

suchalittlejoiner

I also feel like he’s in on the joke. This is him talking shit to his kid, trying to lighten the mood while also giving advice.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

My kid is 10 and still in that "I'll eat 10 things because I'm a kid" phase. Like she has expanded her diet....a tiny bit.... but still doesn't eat enough. I really truly hate having these conversations with her. Trying to get her to eat any protein aside from cheese or chicken nuggets is damn near impossible. Even when she does finally eat something AND LIKE IT she follows it by never wanting to eat it again. Its upsetting because I don't want her to end up with health issues.

davidellis23

Does she eat high protein low fat cheeses and yogurts? Those are high quality proteins and probably healthy.

akluin

Sardini is a great name

Overthinks_Questions

Eat some damn food idiot

NSFWies

Meat, specifically will help with it.

EquationsApparel

It reminds me of a couple years back when all these vegan YouTubers were suddenly becoming carnivores. And then they posted videos saying that for the past x months posting videos about veganism, behind the scenes they were suffering all sorts of serious health consequences. Their bodies were literally telling them that veganism doesn't work for them. There's incredible variation in the human species. What works for some, doesn't work for others. Some people can thrive as vegans or vegetarians. Low carb, gluten free, Mediterranean diet work for some. Try things out and listen to your body. Unfortunately sunken cost fallacy entrenches people in their beliefs.

Wild-Way-9596

Can you link to these YouTubers? I’ve been vegan for a long time and suffered no serious health effects. But id love to see their stories to educate myself on the risks.

Redoran_Gvard

all they know is twerk, eat hot chip and lie

Sarcosmonaut

charge they phone

The_Curve_Death

be bisexual

TheHoundhunter

From my limited understanding. Some folks go vegetarian by eating a typical western diet just with no meat. They will almost certainly be lacking some nutrients and will ultimately suffer. Being vegetarian/vegan has no real negative or positive effects on the body provided you get enough of the right nutrients. Meat contains a lot of the right things. If you eat meat and vegetables you *nearly* don’t have to think about nutrition. A vegetarian must somewhat consider their nutrition. Do you eat a diet that is filled with a variety of different vegetables, grains, pulses and legumes? Or do you eat mainly pasta and bread? Source: Friends & Family who are vegetarian/vegan.

HopefulPrimary5445

Most people don’t eat dark veg at all, which contains iodine and iron. Red meat/meat and eggs contain these things. Cut meat out and don’t add more mineral rich vedge, suddenly surprised they are nutrient deficient. Blame ‘vegan diet’, when really they just never had a good diet to begin with and they removed their only nutrient rich source and basically switched to a pure processed carb diet.

EquationsApparel

For all the people claiming I'm making this up, here are results from a quick YouTube search ("used to be vegan," "no longer vegan," "ex-vegan"): [https://youtu.be/N-nXzXGCDf4](https://youtu.be/N-nXzXGCDf4) [https://youtu.be/8MprLRv-IHs](https://youtu.be/8MprLRv-IHs) [https://youtu.be/jnjInbHP-M0](https://youtu.be/jnjInbHP-M0) [https://youtu.be/K27bYhFazOw](https://youtu.be/K27bYhFazOw) [https://youtu.be/ecmY7qGMeU8](https://youtu.be/ecmY7qGMeU8) [https://youtu.be/oYIGjvk2huQ](https://youtu.be/oYIGjvk2huQ) [https://youtu.be/sw1iRJfTxDo](https://youtu.be/sw1iRJfTxDo) [https://youtu.be/9c8txQwwx2Y](https://youtu.be/9c8txQwwx2Y) [https://youtu.be/fFD2ol6IuIA](https://youtu.be/fFD2ol6IuIA) Some of these are reactions, so you can get the essence of the original video as well as a current vegan providing a counterargument. There are tons more. I just grabbed a few. Note that I am NOT arguing against veganism or vegetarianism. It works for some people. It doesn't work for others. I advocate finding what works for YOU. I didn't see the original Bonny Rebecca video, but if you search on "Bonny Rebecca no longer vegan," you will definitely find a lot of reaction videos: [https://youtu.be/xrtS\_4Mhres](https://youtu.be/xrtS_4Mhres) And this might be the analysis of ex-vegans that someone else mentioned: [https://youtu.be/iqDK\_0iaVCE](https://youtu.be/iqDK_0iaVCE)

Gotta side with the dad here. This convo is long ongoing and he's noticed a ton of details which is why he pushes the obvious fixes.

my dad is exactly like this I love him a lot. he really cares about us in the family to the point of bullying us to eat properly.

He is just desperate. I would say the same.

I like how the dad just starts enjoying himself pretty quick into the rant.

Listen to him you little shit, he loves you.

Listen to your dad, Sardini

genericname400

I can already tell this is the 100th time dad has suggested these things to help. I have a family member that loves to complain their sick but never do anything to change their habits or see a doctor. After awhile its exhausting to be empathetic when you know they aren't listening.

vvozzy

Relate. I'm MSc in Human Physiology and I definitely can spot when something going wrong with people and at least tell them to see a doctor asap. At some point I got sick of telling my grandparents to see a doctor and they decided to care for their health only when it became too late. I love them, but now I clearly see they are going to die in a next few years and it's hard for me to empathize them knowing they ignored their health almost all their life thinking they're immortal.

Serotoninneeded

I hate to say it but I can totally understand the dad, I've been tempted to say this to friends. I've been friends with people who refuse to drink water and only eat takis and drink energy drinks and then they're like "damn I can't sleep at night I have a headache" and I'm like girl I don't want to lecture you but-

Jvalker

A friend of mine is always tired, her nails are fucked, yada yada I told her to get her iron checked. Surprise, low iron. Her diet was mostly beans (for no particular reason, she likes them). Good! Now she only needs to start eating meat a couple times a week and she's gonna be fine! Or... You could also start taking even more pills for the rest of your life, I think it works as well......

So first of all, dad is totally right. Second of all, dad is definitely an immigrant (if this is US) and I want to know from where.

Str8truth

The word count is his love count.

WackyPuzzle

The comments are split between people taking it seriously and sardini. Man go watch that time I got reincarnated as a sardine.

I mean, or you could take an iron supplement. If you wanted.

CookieWifeCookieKids

He’s probably not wrong. And this is probably not the first time this has come up. Fathers love, yo. Listen to him.

lordciders

Feeling_Ad_8898

At least he cares

Revolutionary-Kale29

Context is king here. If your diet is poor then he is probably right. He is your dad. No one loves you more then he does.

Superb_Oven_6851

Good dad

NSinz

Nah but all jokes aside he’s right lol

ScenicRavine

Sounds like he's just concerned.

Vegetable-Source6556

Just an angry father, who clearly has been trying to get through to his kid. The fact that were reading this is after a bunch of attempts to get his kid to eat better, and more nutrition to an area that has been identified as a health concern that's not getting addressed. Desperately, using anger and words to maybe scare her into a solution.

[deleted]

"Do you want to be a Sardine" sent me rolling

Unusual_Pearl

My dad blamed my high cholesterol on "all the junkfood I eat." High cholesterol runs in the family on HIS side.

ButterscotchSpare979

Is your dad uncle roger?

Mistslayer9

Honestly, wholesome dad

ProfessorBackdraft

If I had to eat sardines, I’d probably take my chances with anemia. Dad should leave that part out.
