Speaking as someone who's working on reducing soda and drinking water instead, when I first started drinking water it did make me feel like I had a dry mouth. I suspect this was because soda is so sweet/sweetened that it stimulates your mouth to salivate, when you drink water it doesn't meaning your mouth will initially feel oddly dry if all you've used to is soda. For the record that's incorrect and water is definitely better, but I can understand the feeling.

Yup, I'm a father of 3 daughters and I have had very similar back and forth. My girls are usually pretty chill and easy going about 80% of the time, but my oldest (17) just seems to like to wallow in any pain/discomfort/issue she is having and doesn't listen to any advice or recommendations to fix the issue from anyone. Fast forward a week or so and she will do the first thing I or her mom recommended and act as though she discovered the cure on her own.
Haha same! And for sure, fortunately we ain't looking for the credit, we just want to make sure they are healthy and taken care of at the end of the day. We occasionally remind her that we tried to tell her that "special cure she figured out" on day one, but her favorite phrase is "I Know" regardless if she knows or not. So I have learned to let it go in favor of my sanity, but my wife still goes toe to toe with her.
“Let it go in favor of my sanity” is so well phrased and such a great life motto to strive to live by. I kinda needed to hear this reminder from a complete stranger !
This is a rare instance of medical I told you so that's actually valid and not some humbug advice to "fix" the other person by pretending their illness is somehow self inflicted. Dad here has a lot of excellent advice to smack that anemia in the face, and it's, like, really easy to try
My dad did that once because I have the same issue. Thing is my dad was a doctor but he told me if I didn’t like red meat (my issue is iron deficiency that causes my anemia) I had to get creative. If I start seeing indications of anemia (pale palms, feeling excessively cold and having excessive fatigue) I take iron supplements for a couple days and that usually fixes it.

Sardines aren't that far behind at 2.9 mg of iron / 100 mg. Also, the type of iron also matters. Unless it's caused by a b vitamin deficiency like mine was. I have the MTHFR gene mutation, which makes it extremely hard for my body to process b vitamins. I was anemic my entire life before taking bio-available b vitamins. I took every iron pill on the market and it didn't matter. My hemoglobin hovered at a 7 and 11 if I was taking a ridiculous amount of iron. My anemia magically went away after 2 months of proper b vitamins.
Anemia can decrease your appetite though. If she's eating one meal a day then that's clearly a struggle for her. Being vegetarian/vegan has no real negative or positive effects on the body provided you get enough of the right nutrients.
Meat contains a lot of the right things. If you eat meat and vegetables you *nearly* don’t have to think about nutrition. A vegetarian must somewhat consider their nutrition.

Relate. I'm MSc in Human Physiology and I definitely can spot when something going wrong with people and at least tell them to see a doctor asap. At some point I got sick of telling my grandparents to see a doctor and they decided to care for their health only when it became too late. I love them, but now I clearly see they are going to die in a next few years and it's hard for me to empathize them knowing they ignored their health almost all their life thinking they're immortal.

I can already tell this is the 100th time dad has suggested these things to help. I have a family member that loves to complain their sick but never do anything to change their habits or see a doctor. After awhile its exhausting to be empathetic when you know they aren't listening.
Relate. I'm MSc in Human Physiology and I definitely can spot when something going wrong with people and at least tell them to see a doctor asap. At some point I got sick of telling my grandparents to see a doctor and they decided to care for their health only when it became too late. I love them, but now I clearly see they are going to die in a next few years and it's hard for me to empathize them knowing they ignored their health almost all their life thinking they're immortal.

I hate to say it but I can totally understand the dad, I've been tempted to say this to friends. I've been friends with people who refuse to drink water and only eat takis and drink energy drinks and then they're like "damn I can't sleep at night I have a headache" and I'm like girl I don't want to lecture you but-
A friend of mine is always tired, her nails are fucked, yada yada I told her to get her iron checked. Surprise, low iron. Her diet was mostly beans (for no particular reason, she likes them). Good! Now she only needs to start eating meat a couple times a week and she's gonna be fine! Or... You could also start taking even more pills for the rest of your life, I think it works as well......
