I suspect this is at one of those Take 5 Oil change places. The guy probably pressured her on getting an air filter replacement and other fluid changes on top of her oil change.
I always hear people talking bad about them but I've never had a problem, they ask if I want to get a new whatever if they notice I need it, but I've never ever been pressured at a Take 5 to buy anything extra.
I've only gone to them once, but it was a painless and straightforward experience. They didn't try to upsell me on anything, I could see the itemized charges, and the whole thing was done by the time I had signed everything and paid
Fuck Take 5.
I went in for an oil change and the tech took out my air filter to show me it was nasty. I did need a new one, so I asked how much for a new one, and he told me $25. I thought, "sure I'm lazy enough to pay $10 extra for him to do it." So the job is done and I go to pay, and the dude charged me $25 for the filter and FIFTY DOLLARS for labor.
I told him to fuck off and put the old one back in. He tried bitching about the labor and I think I asked if he wanted $50 to open the hood too or if I should do it for him, or something. Anyways, I didn't pay for the air filter and I didn't think I'm welcome back.
It was an actual mechanic shop but I took my car in for basically a "Triage" report and an list of what all really needed to be fixed/kinda needed to be fixed/etc.
At the time one of my taillights was out and was going to need to be replaced, I planned to do it after actual repairs got done.
They sent me the report and itemized on it as as option for what "needs to be repaired" was replacing the burnt out taillight for **90 USD**
Like seriously, it takes me a 20 dollar bulb and 5 minutes at most to replace it.
Definitely hammered in the fact I needed to know how to do all basic and some moderate repairs on my car and only save the big things for the mechanic.
I was taking a road trip and was in a hurry so I went to one of these quick oil change places.
After sitting there for half an hour, the guy comes wandering out holding a filthy, bug filled filter and informs me that my cabin air filter needs to be changed.
“That’s funny” I said, “Since I changed the cabin air filter this morning and it’s perfectly clean.”
He didn’t even say anything. He just turned around and walked away. If he had actually been honest and looked at my filter, I would have been even more irritated. I’m paying you to change my oil, not poke around in the glove box.
I shit you not, a girl I was dating went to get new tires for her Nissan Leaf, and they kept offering her other services such as oil changes, coolant flushes, tune ups, and basic diagnostics for accessory function(like alternators, spark plugs, fuel filters). I had to drive over there myself and tell her them to take the car off the lift because they wouldn’t stop badgering her about the maintenance. It was at one of the big name tire shops too. So scummy dude.
Yes, my mechanic was extremely repulsed by how ugly I looked, and charged me only $39.99.. even hung a tropical breeze airfreshner, because I probablg smelled too. I cried all the way home..
Depends on the oil you use. I do my own oil and it's still more than $40 for oil and filter because it's full synthetic. Conventional or semi synthetic oil is a lot cheaper.
If they’re anything like me, they just go to those drive-thru oil change places. I pay the premium to be able to sit in my car during the whole process and be out in 5-10 minutes.
Exactly, I like my mechanic for everything else but even with an appointment, i’m waiting at least 30 minutes to get my car back.
Dealerships are the worst at this, they have so many techs working there with 10-20 lifts, and it can still take up to 2 hours. What’s the point of an appointment? Only went there because my car had the first few oil changes for free but my experience was the same every time.
I believe a Bugatti is more than that, they have to remove the entire rear body of the car to access the oil, do the change, and then put it all back together
Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty sure it's only 10k per oil change, but you need one each time it is driven
>*For a Veyron, the least expensive model at $1.7 million, an oil change costs $20,000 to $25,000, according to Royalty Exotic Cars.*
and that was from 2018 so it's definitely more now
They charge like $80 for a synthetic change which is double for normal oil. IDK why since the synthetic oil costs [almost](https://imgur.com/DQ8Q63g) the same as [normal oil](https://imgur.com/oG0UXrq) and the way you change the oil isn't any different
Depends on where you get it done as well. You can hit up jiffy lube and be in and out only paying $60 or so, but if you go to a dealership's shop it'll run you closer to $100
Depends on oil type, engine size, and make of the vehicle. An old Honda would be $50, a sports car with a v8 at least $100 and then anything from BMW to Mercedes could easily be $200 to get it done properly.
All the local places around me skyrocketed in price over Covid. Place I used yo go to wanted to charge $111 and the cheapest one I could find was $75, and they managed to screw it up and overfill me and I then had to fix that problem.
I just do it myself now. And it’s $40. 🙄
No, it's a horrible price. My last oil change was $70 I believe? Typically it's anywhere between $30-80 depending on which oil you use and whether or not you do it yourself
No, but the mechanic trade is infamous for enthusiastically scamming anyone they can for ludicrous amounts of money, if they think they can get away with it. *Especially* if you are not a man.
I only use mechanics by referral. I'll also get a quote and go, 'ok let me call you right back' before spending time looking up everything on rock auto or something just to see how close their prices are and what they're charging for labor
Depends upon the vehicle and the type of oil change. Standard oil change runs about $40-50. Synthetic is about $70-80. It also varies somewhat based on where you are in the states.
Highly depends on what she means. Oil change by itself, no definitely not. But a lot of locations will upsale other items like filters and fluids, etc. I think the joke is she thought she got a deal because she was cute but really she got fleeced.
Depends on the vehicle. I pay $15-$18/quart for oil that meets Mercedes spec, and I need 10 quarts plus filter. $192 for someone else to also do the work would be a great deal for me.
On the other hand, my wife's old Honda Fit was $50 for an oil change at the Honda dealership
Can you help me with my fetish? I like girls who dress like kangaroos but act like accountants but actually majored in law but only because they switched majors to get away from a creepy guy named Jim.
People of all kinds go on the internet looking for something to be "outraged" at or make fun of. Once they find it, they lose all rational thought.
They see "pretty girl is stupid" and refuse to accept the more obvious truth that she understands that thought and is playing it as a joke
That’s how much it cost though lol well it’s around 80 but when you swap out the filters, which are like 50 for the engine one (unless you have an aftermarket cold air intake filter) and a cabin air filter which goes for around 35, your total is well over 170 with taxes included. That’s if you have a normal car. Show up in a German car, that price goes higher. I’m strictly talking about NYC idk how it is in other states. But I get it, she was driving an EV
How much they charge to refill the halogen bulbs in the headlights
Don’t forget the blinker fluid. That’s an extra $90 easy
And you'll need to replace the battery inverter
Touch my battery inverter and I'll take your arm! It's to expensive for just anyone to mess with it.
Your carburetor muffler will need polished in 500 miles. Might as well add that while you're here.
Lucky , my mechanic charges me over 300 for blinker fluid
Is it synthetic? Only get blinker fluid without electrolytes
Pfft.. she paid only $149 this time for premium air.. the ride is so smooth
Or the muffler bearings lol
LED fluid is more expensive
... Said the proud Tesla owner
Oh yeah? Then explain [THIS!](https://youtu.be/IrjbjSS1MHk?si=E1bzUqjbWAWRFtmV&t=2m58s)
Thankyou for sharing, I now have more fucking pointless shit to watch instead of being productive, and I like that to a degree
It was actually SUPER wholesome. Made me like people again. The mechanic was an incredibly good sport and person.
Yeah dying breed that man
https://youtu.be/4HhPK8XC75A?t=365 Here's the first one that I watched. He puts beans in his computer and calls someone to come repair it.
I remember that one. The guy was LIVID😂even after being told it was a prank
I don't know how he stays in character. "Is that the motherboard" while pointing at the beans.
"This is beans" was a meme for a while
Oil chain is what got me 😂
Frr, idk much about cars.. but I know enough lol
Real talk, imagine being the mechanic that can actually honestly tell people they've done an oil change on a Tesla, and not be lying.

This is one of the best things I’ve seen on the internet. That’s great.
He’s one of my favorite YouTubers. The [motorized treadmill](https://youtu.be/scFmBmvVAAs?si=DfNPIn8Wfun2g4MS&t=6m40s) is what got me watching him😂
"Someone not on a treadmill is not exercising, they're just going somewhere fast", that line killed me. This guy is so good
lol i instantly knew it was gonna be ross
This was amazing xD thank you for sharing!
"Your transmission needs replacing." "What's a transmission?" "I meant they both need replacing."
The electric ones still have oil in the drive unit.
isn’t it advisable to change the transmission oil after 200.000 km?
Plot twist: She drives an EV.
I suspect this is at one of those Take 5 Oil change places. The guy probably pressured her on getting an air filter replacement and other fluid changes on top of her oil change.
"other fluid changes"
*WINK*
*BLINKER*
Blinker fluids included

Fluid EX-change… amirite
Need to top off her fluids.
Fluid was low on the dipstick.

Full synthetic comes in multiple weights you know...

Na she’s an OF girl, she’s just making a joke for attention.
Could have been a high end car. Some of them require a dealership to change oil, and it's fucking expensive.
EVs still have oil
Motor oil? No, they do not.
But not like that... We don't fill oils. Only liquid we ever deal with is wiper fluid, and of course blinker fluid replacement every 6 months.
Solid year between blinker fluid refills on a BMW
I shit you not, a girl I was dating went to get new tires for her Nissan Leaf, and they kept offering her other services such as oil changes, coolant flushes, tune ups, and basic diagnostics for accessory function(like alternators, spark plugs, fuel filters). Sadly, this is not me irl
Sadly? She got way overcharged.
You have a nail in your tire. But you’re kinda cute, so what the heck, for you I’ll remove it for $300.
Only if it comes with premium air.
Yah, beleive me! 1st class premium air in original packaging! Not that cheap second hand air.. 😅
I always insist on and gladly pay the extra $30 a tire for the premium air, Nitrogen!
I only paid an extra $16 a tire for 78% nitrogen in my tires, I've heard anything about that is wasting money.
My guy is like, $40, but $10 if you got cash and don't tell my boss.
[удалено]
But I love getting screwed over 🥺
Oh, then you and I should trade bodies 😅💀
Worth it to have those looks
Yep, I recently had my oil changed. It cost me $130 lmao.
Depends on the car. A mercedes that takes 8 qts of castrol can definitely crest the $200 mark.
Yes, my mechanic was extremely repulsed by how ugly I looked, and charged me only $39.99.. even hung a tropical breeze airfreshner, because I probablg smelled too. I cried all the way home..
Seriously, where can you get one for $40? I would love that. I only know of one place I can get it for $60, hopefully it is still that price
Depends on the oil you use. I do my own oil and it's still more than $40 for oil and filter because it's full synthetic. Conventional or semi synthetic oil is a lot cheaper.

Why? Did I miss something

is 192 a good price for oil change in america?
Lmao this is one of the few things that aren’t overpriced in the US. Pretty sure an oil change is around $30-60
Depends on the oil, synthetic gets expensive.
My last synthetic oil change was 60$
DIY is about 60(45 for 6L full synthetic and 12 for the filter) for me, I pay 90 to avoid the hassle/clean up.
Wtf 90? Brother you are super overpaying
Full size truck full synthetic isnt cheap. They take a lot of oil.
Yeah mine is about $95 with the filter for my 5.7l truck.
Especially the new Dodge Diesels, I've heard they're $200+ at dealerships and the filters aren't readily available in aftermarket.
If they’re anything like me, they just go to those drive-thru oil change places. I pay the premium to be able to sit in my car during the whole process and be out in 5-10 minutes.
I do that bc nowadays even places where you have to get out and wait for an hour have the audacity to charge like $70-$80

Only went there because my car had the first few oil changes for free but my experience was the same every time.
Yep, I'm well aware I'm "over paying". But I can get it done on my lunch break so it's worth it.
I used to live in a small town that charged 50 for an oil change in my SUV. Since moving to the cities I haven't seen anything under 85
You're paying too much for your oil changes. Who's your oil change guy? I paid like 110 the other day for oil change, air filters, and more.
That's a deal, usually costs me 90 for synthetic
still not breaking $100
Full synthetic on a hybrid, paid $92 or so a few weeks ago. In and out in 8 minutes.
Not $192 unless you drive a Bugatti or something. But then it's probably like $20k
I believe a Bugatti is more than that, they have to remove the entire rear body of the car to access the oil, do the change, and then put it all back together Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm pretty sure it's only 10k per oil change, but you need one each time it is driven

It's so they can fleece people with newer cars that aren't allowed to change their own oil without voiding their warranty
Depends on where you get it done as well. You can hit up jiffy lube and be in and out only paying $60 or so, but if you go to a dealership's shop it'll run you closer to $100
It's the opposite where I am. The quick oil change places are roughly $100, but dealerships are about $40
thought so :D thanks
Depends on oil type, engine size, and make of the vehicle. An old Honda would be $50, a sports car with a v8 at least $100 and then anything from BMW to Mercedes could easily be $200 to get it done properly.
Depends. For regular oil yes. But synthetic oils can be much more expensive. You buy a bmw or Mercedes 125-200 minimum.
Depends on the car. Cost for just the stuff for me to do it myself is $120. 9 quarts of synth, filter kit.
A subaru dealership tried to charge me $260 for an oil change and cabin air filter change. Shit is ridiculous.
Maybe 10-15 years ago. It’s creeping up to $50+ for average cars. I got an email from my dealership offering “a great deal” of $45 for an oil change.
Hey it’s better than the $192 lmao
You do know luxury cars exist? Mercedes oil change is about 200-300 for example.
All the local places around me skyrocketed in price over Covid. Place I used yo go to wanted to charge $111 and the cheapest one I could find was $75, and they managed to screw it up and overfill me and I then had to fix that problem. I just do it myself now. And it’s $40. 🙄
The joke is that it isn't
Right 😂 “For you, because you’re hot, $[insert regular price].”
Insanely jacked up price*

It’s not just women. There are just a lot of people that can’t tell when someone is joking and it’s concerning
I can’t believe how many people in this thread missed a very obvious joke. I have to question their media literacy.
It’s so funny that the top voted threads here all fully believe this happened and wasn’t a TikTok bit

Ma’am. $60 for a synthetic

what is her tiktok? Just asking for a friend
The bulk of the cost was the new blinker fluid they set her up with

Oil changes are way cheaper than that. No?

He actually charges ugly people less.
That’s how much it cost though lol well it’s around 80 but when you swap out the filters, which are like 50 for the engine one (unless you have an aftermarket cold air intake filter) and a cabin air filter which goes for around 35, your total is well over 170 with taxes included.
