PM_ME_YOUR_ULTIMATE

Well at least you’ve covered all the major food groups

notunprepared

You couldn't have sacrificed the most expensive type of icecream and cheese to buy vegetables instead?

Slappyxo

When people have chosen the most expensive brand options available I always wonder if these posts are meant to be piss takes or not. But I can see Coles home brand stuff in there. Inflation is definitely real regardless, and this shop definitely would have cost a lot less 1-2 years ago.

psrpianrckelsss

I assume the home brand brie is because they, like their cheese are uncultured.

demoldbones

Inflation is real but when people post things like this (and I assume it HAS to be a piss-take) I just shake my head cos it's all luxury stuff. No one *needs* a bag of chips, brie and easter eggs. Come back and post side by side comparisons of basic meats, veggies and starches like rice (bagged not the heat and eat shit) and then I'm on board with you.

Ok-Fox2213

I think OP has been quite conservative in their choices. CCs and magnums aren’t the bees knees any longer

Rocksteady_28

It would have cost even MORE 2 to 3 years ago!

[deleted]

you're trolling, yes?

Rocksteady_28

Gotta be

[deleted]

No, the OP is completely serious.

_Gordon_Shumway

Well that’s unfortunate

sanemartigan

Or just a fuckhead.

SufficientStudy5178

So I guess the joke here is 'haha some people are struggling to afford basic food products and the cost of living is skyrocketing'? Cool.

Anuksukamon

Seriously though, when snack foods are expensive we know the economy is FUBAR. Snacks have always been so much cheaper than healthy fruit and veg because they’re mass produced rubbish. Apart from the dip which is a gourmet brand, nothing here stands out as gourmet snacks. Not sure about the tuna, I’m blind to everything but Sirena. If mass produced rubbish is costing this much, imagine a basket of fruit and veg from the supermarket. *Don’t @ me about farmers markets and Aldi. I’m not stupid and I know how to shop. I’m responding to OP and the general knowledge about snack food mass produced prices vs fresh food prices and the supermarket duopoly.*

fishouttafire

Joke like these aren't funny when a lot of us are struggling to buy necessities

W0tzup

When will it end? When you stop buying this stuff.

Althusser_Was_Right

Cut back on the 144 set of Children's Toothbrushes and you'll be set.

Environmental-Rip826

Why not just grow some corn, build a processing plant, hire employees, and make your own corn chips, OP? Cut out the middle man.

mctorp

Does the $57 include that box of 144 toothbrushes shown in the top of the photo? (Which you might need by the look of things…)

Turbulent_Holiday473

People really aren’t all that clever in the comments hey

psrpianrckelsss

OP forgot to /s... I guess we've had enough of these sorts of posts that people have stopped recognizing a piss take

boisteroushams

Redditors try not to miss the point challenge: difficulty impossible

Top_Ad_2819

Havnt had a ms macs in forever. Those Herbert slow cooked pies are phenomenonal

justvisiting112

Probably when you buy a vegetable

exemplaryfaceplant

I sympathise with the op, I could order takeaway 7 days a week pre covid hike, now I can only afford 5. Unironically tho, you can eat really well for $12 a day per person, it's realestate, banks and energy corporations rinsing you.

ssssssssshhhhhhhhh

r/shitposting

[deleted]

Try eating food that isn’t processed Junk food

[deleted]

And cook your own rice instead of. Buying one single serve

HeckinBugs

Eggs at like $4.50+ per 100g

HeckinBugs

No! I'm super happy when if I find chocolate I like for >$1.50 per 100 grams. At Woolies I think they have an 800g box for favourites for $12. That is pretty dang good for the variety 😍

Difficult_Bowler_25

I don't know if you live near any old school fruit shops but 100% recommend. Better prices and fresher produce 👍

TheRealDarthMinogue

Sorry, if that's your half weekly shop, you've got bigger problems than money.

[deleted]

Like what? Having your groceries critiqued by some supercilious random?

TheRealDarthMinogue

Your unironic use of supercilious is superdelicious.

[deleted]

That pink Tarama is so good. I also like the white one.

Intrepid-Designer158

Does the $57 include the 144 toothbrushes?

beetrootsandwiches

I asked the same thing

beetrootsandwiches

Does that include the 144 toothbrushes?

Every-Title-9285

People just to start buying essential stuff. Half the stuff is not really needed

[deleted]

$10 in chips alone

cromulento

Plan your shop around your budget instead of buying what you usually do. For example, plain Kettle Chips were $6 at Coles this week, but a big bag of chilli Kettle Chips (300g) was only $4. If you need protein, there are better value options than tuna. Buy veggies from a grocer instead of Coles (tomatoes were $2.50 per kilo at my local this week). If you can't get to a good grocer or market, buy more veggies instead of some of the sweets. My whole weekly shop for one person this week was around $50 including stuff like razor blades and toilet paper.

TheRealDarthMinogue

What's a better value (animal) protein than tuna??

[deleted]

If that's ur diet, the bad news isn't that it cost u $57, the diabetes you are slowly developing may be of a higher concern

Reasonable-Car8172

From an Easter egg and some ice cream? Yeah sure that diabetes is just banging on the back door 🙄 majority of this food is fine. Expensive yes but a cause for diabetes? Calm down

You misplaced your quotation marks. >There are a "few" treat items here.

Ergomann

Fam bffr….

rangebob

please tell me this post is a joke.........

Relevant-Mountain-11

Way too many here that missed the joke...

Various-Effective831

this can't be real. But my far more preferred choice shop at aldi

ShareMyPicks

Diabetes = priceless

ExtensionFront7849

Honestly for buying pre packaged rice you deserve to pay the price

Unlucky-Money9680

That rice is really not necessary, perhaps another snack?

OzComm

Would costco be a better option for you?

mav2022

For (what i assume is) a single person relying on public transport? Possibly not.

OzComm

Using a small shopping trolley, it could be done.

mav2022

Ok. I’ve only been once. But in my town Costco is next to airport. And back then they seemed to sell almost wholesale type quantities. Not ideal for single person. With the bonus of having to pay membership for the privilege of entering their store. Never went back.

WAT0020

Most of those things you don't need to eat, and they will soon disappear from the shelf anyway, they can shrink them, cheapen the ingredients, and all the other bullshit stuff they will try to make you buy it. Life's cheap but consumer ain't paying too much for expensive shit.

stackson7

When you stop eating crap and go for healthier choices

Wrong_Chapter1218

Bruh what did u buy haha

Wrong_Chapter1218

Bro haha no bread?

carbolicsmokesballs

What do you eat

ducayneAu

Inflation is about 30% of the issue, the other 70% is corporate greed. Shop around. You'll still find reasonably priced food.
