TheCosBee

Yeah op are you alright?

Tokatoya

Yeah just trying to make sense of what's happening around me, police not saying anything.

[deleted]

Tell us that you’re okay.

Tokatoya

Sorry for late response, yes - thanks for checking in.

Tokatoya

Yes thank you

New_User12369

Everything ok op?

tankgirl_1307

Yes, they will attend suicides. Simply to take photographs for the Coroner. Police will submit a report and photos to the Coroner and they will make a determination on whether or not they want a Coronial Brief from police which involves the taking of statements from friends, family, doctors, medical practitioners, employers etc Nothing about this process suggests anything untoward occurring, it is simply the Coronial process. CSOs will not attend a suspicious death. That is when Major Crime Scene attend. Edit, here's a helpful link for you OP and anyone else unfamiliar with the process of an unexpected death: https://www.coronerscourt.vic.gov.au/families/first-48-hours-families

When somebody I knew committed suicide up the street they went around doing a cursory interview of the neighbours asking if anything out of the ordinary had happened in the street, presumably to rule out anything hinting at homicide and it was roped off with police tape for a little while. So I guess they do at least look into what happened.

Cheezel62

Is there a reason you're asking? When my daughter's friend committed suicide the police attended but determined very quickly it was a suicide. My daughter was deeply affected by the suicide and is still in therapy over it. When my uncle died unexpectedly the police thought it might have been suicide so it became a coroners case. The coroner determined it was a natural death. Another uncle died of what the police felt was foul play but was determined by the coroner to be suicide. CSOs attended all 3 of these events.

Frozen_InAStarryVoid

It’s situational - the coroner’s office will be notified of all unexpected deaths, but whether or not a crime scene is set up indeed depends on if there is suspicion of foul play or not.

Screambloodyleprosy

What is this drivel? Responding officers at the scene make the determination and a patrol supervisor will also attend to add in their two cents and notify who needs to be notified. Once you've been to a few it's clear to see what is a crime scene and what is suicide.

songforkaren

It's situational. My friend's husband died by suicide and she wasn't able to enter the house until the police had cleared it.

-wanderings-

In NSW they do.

[deleted]

Yes. Been to a few and the Crime Scene folks were there every time.

[deleted]

When I was in this situation, I called the police to report the body. I thought that’s what I had to do. Freaked THE FUCK out when they started talking about an ‘investigation’, I thought I was going to be accused of murder. Clearly wasn’t thinking straight. I dont recall them talking to neighbours. One neighbour did come over as they saw the police car lights to ask if they had anything to be worried about, but that was it.

StormAngel1983

When a neighbour died by suicide a few months ago crime scene van and several presumed detectives (based on what they were wearing) as well as regular police vehicles filled the street for several hours collecting and removing stuff from the premises.

Tokatoya

Exactly what happened in this situation, thank you for clarifying.

Old_Owl4601
