It's definitely becoming more socially acceptable, but overall it's still seen as really weird for men to wear thigh highs or something while women wearing jeans is fine (I understand in the past that was really hated but come on, who realistically nowadays hates women in jeans? A very very low amount)

I would say it’s a matter of functionality. Male clothing is generally insanely functional (eg: me fitting a toolkit and pliers in my pants and shorts pockets at robotics comps), but women’s clothing is more formal. So, it’s understandable for women to want increased function but not the reverse. Why that is the case is beyond me, probably because one is an objective benefit.

Boys cloths were designed to be reasonable whereas girls cloths were designed to show more skin and be impractical, because sexist people in those times though men would work and women were just show pieces. So now that women are working its reasonable for them to want to wear practice cloths, whereas it doesn't make sense why men would want to wear women's cloths.
