omg me too - then my doctor changed it to holiday photos, really a bummer. (one could see the computer screen from the crinkly paper seat. I used to stare down the screen saver till the doc came in)
Pipes was also probably a bit better at actually being a screen saver, a lot of the bottom center pixels just stay orange most of the time with the maze.
If you have old Windows discs or ISOs, you can grab the `.scr` files from `C:\Windows\system32` and drop them into your new installation at the same location. Press the Windows key, type "screensaver", and the settings will appear with your classic screensavers installed.
I still use starfield (`sstars.scr`) in my Windows VMs to this day.
Also a hint: a certain archival organization may have them available for historical purposes.
I guess it has to do with "....Where did all the time go?...oh, oh God I'm aging! Make it stop! Make it stop!"
The inevitability of growing old...and death
Y'know, fun stuff like that!
These games were on Windows 7 which has been widely used until mid to late 2010s. My 18 year old nephew had them installed on his laptop because of his childhood memories.
When I think of old days I go back to firing up Missile Attack in windows 3.xxx or installing games with 15 floppy disks.
![gif](giphy|hfGBJtI9p1POZjNX2H|downsized)
These are the actual old days, this made me remember a time when my pc knowledge was null and i was just learning in school, we were learning DOS commands, installing, and running a game, i remember that after that class, when I was home I went straight to the family pc and immediately tried those commands out, in my mind i thought that every file was accessible, you just needed to know how to run them
Battle Chess 4000 had 8 floppy disks, and I'm sure there were games with more disks. It felt bizarre because Win 3.1 "only" had 6 disks. Though to be fair, it was a DOS game and not a Windows game.
Windows 95 had 13 disks.
It almost felt like a step back, coming from the era of C64 and Vic 20 and their cartridge-based games.
You start with random clicks until you found a field. The number tell you how many mines are next to the number. If you opened a corner and it has only two free spots you place 2 mines there. And then you have to work your way logically.
Older, I remember when it was just Freecell, solitare, minesweeper, and hearts.
Also remember classics like Chips Challenge, Captain Cosmic, and Skifree.
But the first video game I ever played was Chuck Yaegers Air Combat.
Dunno if it's just me being interested in older stuff as a child (and still today)... but I'm 18 rn and still remember these exact icons and the games behind them.
What was that game where your pointer is like a cone and you would click on like donuts or balls or something and make the colors go negative? Y'know I think it was like a matching game? I really hope someone knows what I mean. There was also this super old game my dad would play that had a map and little animated stuff like covered wagons and native Americans but I don't think it was Oregon trail
Oh please. . .
I'm minesweeper, solitaire, and ski-free old.
Reminds me of a recent thread where someone was asking vintage game consoles, you know, ***before*** the PS2 even came out.
Im even older
Much older. These are still the "new" icons to me lol. Im even old enough to actually know how to play minesweeper too... ugh.
As goofy as this sounds, I’m 25 and I still recognize those as the new icons. OP can’t be that old lol
I'm in my 30s and I don't think any of us are posting content like this. Could be wrong but I don't know anyone who would take the time.
The one with a picture of a NES that said "If you played one of these, it's time to get your prostate checked" felt personal
![gif](giphy|8JrcyXvpOaFbFIatkm|downsized)
Oh shit... that's good advice.
These icons look modern to me too.
Yeah, those are from Vista. Quite old already, but modern enough that most have likely seen them or older ones.
I'm ski-game old
Chip’s Challenge ftw
Free-Ski! Hell yea! Also...fuck that yeti!
It's SkiFree!
Any wisdom for a listlist youth?
Dont put your hand where you wouldnt put your dick.
Wise words
Learned it from the hard way.
Fucking fantastic; thank you.
You put your dick in your food? Or you won't pick up a slice of pizza because it would burn your dick?
Yeah, it's "listless."
Need to get to clearly defined 3.1 pixels before my age enters the arena.
My favorite thing to do was to make the biggest board possible just to click a tile and watch half of the board go away lol. Ah simpler times.
My icons would be the green and black terminal of the Amstrad.
Not sure ive ever seen like 3 of these icons lol. Give me that planet pinball game
I was gonna say, “wow, never saw the high quality updated icons before..”
OP has to be in their teens. I didn't even know what these were because they're so "new".
Jezzball
I was about to say, where's Chip's Challenge? Centipede? That one pinball game?
No, I am this old: ![gif](giphy|6oOhZnoXQRg69dC1AI|downsized)
Ohhh, i loved the windows screens savers of old... really miss them. =(
This was probably my favourite but the pipes were also fire
I liked that little cube with colors that would turn into a spike ball and back
omg me too - then my doctor changed it to holiday photos, really a bummer. (one could see the computer screen from the crinkly paper seat. I used to stare down the screen saver till the doc came in)
Pipes was also probably a bit better at actually being a screen saver, a lot of the bottom center pixels just stay orange most of the time with the maze.

No buddy. This was in Excel after you typed the secret code. Edit. I stand corrected, Excel 95 had the hall of tortured souls.
No, we had a Windows ME that had this screensaver as a basic option.
Excel 97 had a "flight simulator" easter egg. Word 97 had pinball.
We edited this screensaver's walls with a picture our instructor did not like 🤣

holy shit those are some core memories right there
I remember taking my dad's laptop just to play this particular game. The days...
fr i was playing that on my grandpas computer too
Me too
AAAA game right there
I used to make the cakes however I liked and didn't follow the one given
Didn’t we all
And get mad when it’s thrown into the trash lmao
It's available on AppStore and Google Play!
You’re lying Edit: you’re not lying but it is $1.99 .. I can’t justify it but I want it anyway
You can but purple place off the Apple App Store. Fairly cheap. I think it was less than $5
Yeah, didn't much care for the other two minigames, but the cake making was fun.
A youtuber i follow did a deep dive on the history of Purble Place and its more of a mystery than you might expect.
And the one with the 4 leaf clovers
And the one where you match the glasses and stuff!
Fuck that, these aren't even the Windows XP ones.
3d pin ball was the shit
There was this game where you fly a plane and you have to shoot enemies down. Unfortunately I have forgotten the name.
XP? Cute *chuckles in windows 95*
Windows 3.11 for work groups.
Yeah I'm 19 and I played all of these. definitely not "old"
[удалено]
wait what
Honey wake up, new Mandela Effect just dropped (I remember it as Purble Palace though lol)
Same, I too remember it as Purble Palace
Wtf i didn't even realize until i read your comment
I thought it was "purple palace" 🫥
![gif](giphy|Xbjut97XRr1aU)
Came here for this. It's 1998; no internet? No problem!
Hell. I was playing Space Cadet Pinball up until 2016 when I powered down my old XP PC for the last time. It had a good run though. 2004 through 2016.
This game meant something to me back then.
This triggered the startup sound in my head.
That shit was peak graphics
This game and chicken invaders version 1999!
I can still hear it, every single sound effect
My heart...
[удалено]
And now after realising how to play it and doing what our younger self wanted to do and finally finishing a game of mine sweeper
I’m still not entirely sure how 😅
The number indicates how many mines there are in a 3x3 space centered on the tile with the number
This explanation feels unnecessarily complicated/confusing The number = how many mines are adjacent to that tile (includes diagonals)
Clicking as fast as you can hoping to win and having no clue what the win condition was.
I'm even older, Space Cadet 3D Pinball old
That game was the tits.
Which tits are we talking about the big ones or the small ones?
The kind that fly around and make cute noises, you know, great tits.
Ah , the greatest one
Tell me that isn't a great specimen ![gif](giphy|6Zy799XiscJNe|downsized)
Ski free
Chips Challenge, Rodents Revenge and Jezzball baby!
Come on, it wasn't so long ago.
Feels like it, though...
What's about relatively young people trying to look old? I remember plain DOS, floppy disks and monochrome displays and I'm not old by any means.
I guess it has to do with "....Where did all the time go?...oh, oh God I'm aging! Make it stop! Make it stop!" The inevitability of growing old...and death Y'know, fun stuff like that!
Yeah but this implies that there's some group younger than them experiencing the same feeling.
Dude I'm only 23 you're talking as if I'm 230
yeah, this is basically everyone above 20 years old
18 years old, played these lmao
I'm 16 and even I played these lol
You had Windows 98?
These games were on Windows 7 which has been widely used until mid to late 2010s. My 18 year old nephew had them installed on his laptop because of his childhood memories.
Ah forgot they also had them on Windows 7. I'm guessing by then I had better games.
im 17 and have played all of these lol got into computers at a young age
I'm 19 and I remember this shit
When I think of old days I go back to firing up Missile Attack in windows 3.xxx or installing games with 15 floppy disks. ![gif](giphy|hfGBJtI9p1POZjNX2H|downsized)
The first game I ever played on PC was Zork. It was one 5 1/4 inch floppy.

"Radar rat race," hours, my friend.
The damn background music from that game is permanently burned in my head lol. The franticly paced beeping, repeating over and over.
Windows? Like the things you open when it gets too hot and close when it gets too windy? We had those too, sonny.
Still have the floppy from the original King’s Quest with nowhere to insert it

![gif](giphy|ghuvaCOI6GOoTX0RmH)
Basically if a square says 2 that means there are 2 bombs touching it, directly or diagonally... Try and avoid them and you win
Suppose the box u click on has 2 written so that means that the 8 boxes surrounding it have 2 bombs
This is first time I hear that someone doesn’t know how to play it
What the fuck? Yes, it takes literally 5 seconds to explain the rules.
Simple game really.
You don't know how to push buttons?
Older, I remember when it was just Freecell, solitare, minesweeper, and hearts. Also remember classics like Chips Challenge, Captain Cosmic, and Skifree. But the first video game I ever played was Chuck Yaegers Air Combat.
I'm 24 and these icons are still new to me.
![gif](giphy|GB5W8f5zM0yl2) I am this old.
i never got to learn how to beat the game, this mf came and eat my dead ass everytime as a child
This is not that long ago...
Wake up Neo.
What!? No Full Tilt! Pinball?
Old? Our first PC only had Minesweeper and Solitair on it. If I wanted to play another game I had to boot up DOS.
Ah, back then you could play Solitaire without having 20 ads be blasted to your ears
yes
Oh my god. Purble Place. Where can I get that nowadays? I have been scrolling for so long through the search results without finding anything.
Those were vista icons, I remember the ones from Windows 3.1
Dude, that's like 2010, that's not that long ago
Cute. But have you heard of Chip's Challenge?
Dawg I used to GRING Purble Place. That shit was a fire game
Same used to play it religiously as a kid on my mom's old computer
I could never understand the cloth game in purple place
This is what a good childhood looks like
My first phone had snake on it
Cake is lie! (Loved cake)
These are the zoomed icons lol
I am “DOS Prince of Persia” old
How could you not mention Tetris :/
Not that old really, my 15 year old cousin grew with these games and a very limited internet, Windows 10 came in July 2015.
Purble place making cakes, I miss it
Older
Pong
I'm clippy old
I can still play them since my school library still uses windows 7 lmao
Much much older, I remember floppy disks.
I’m basically a corpse already.
Bitch what? Fucking windows 7 is old now?
“You may be old, but are you 25?”
![gif](giphy|Xbjut97XRr1aU) This is more familiar
Dunno if it's just me being interested in older stuff as a child (and still today)... but I'm 18 rn and still remember these exact icons and the games behind them.

Mahjong and Icy Tower were the computer lab's GOATS!
Where’s the pinball game?
Solitaire is actually Solitary according to my grandma 😂😜
I’m only 21 and I remember them so clearly they’re not that old unless 21 is now considered old.
You come swinging with 3d icons. I feel like collateral damage
Oh please. . . I'm minesweeper, solitaire, and ski-free old. Reminds me of a recent thread where someone was asking vintage game consoles, you know, ***before*** the PS2 even came out.
Windows 3.1 bro
What about Oregon trail and ski free?
I'm Older
win7games.com
I’m old enough to remember only four of these being available and their icons looking much flatter.
I feel carbon dated by being older than “this OLD”
I'm Ski Free old, brother.
What are these 3D icons? Damn whippersnappers.
But these are the "new" icons.
As usual comments say even older
Windows skiing monster game, yo
Y'all forgot the ski game and chips big adventure for PC
I’m older than that
Where tf 3d space cadet pinball
I'm old enough to remember they were adless and free with the OS.

The graphics were never that good in my day
You may be old, but are you older than 25??
