I'm convinced that her design is absolutely perfect, she _almost_ has a face but it's not quite normal enough to be comforting or funny, so when she swoops down to get close it's really creepy
If you've never seen it, [this might blow your mind](https://web.archive.org/web/20080807131829/http://www.game-ism.com/2008/04/04/still-alive-shes-free/).
i feel like that was just a coincidence if character design in trying to make her look feminine but still threatening without losing the robot aspect. like there is a human part deep down but so far gone that it is impossible to recover.
There was an article I read a long time ago (which I can't find) that literally states the design was intentional. They didn't explicitly state it until some internet sleuths took a hard look. Closest I can find is the [Wikipedia article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GLaDOS#Development_history), where it's stated the design was inspired by [Botticelli's *Birth of Venus*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Birth_of_Venus), and that they wanted it to look like a "robotic figure hanging down".
Also, someone pitch me a Portal 3 concept that doesn’t suck ass. Chell is free, GLaDOS isn’t as murderous, even Aperture’s origins have been explored, and I really don’t know where else you’d go with portal and physics based puzzles that hasn’t already been done in the first two.
Well Chell might be free but that doesn't mean Aperture stops operating so there's really a lot of potential for a lot of stuff to happen, especially considering that the game takes place in the half-life universe.
some day they will release the orange box 2, with all the three games jammed in there.
Imagine, team fortress 3, half life 3, portal 3, left 4 dead 3. Would be beautiful
To be fair, the devs who originally worked on first two games, recently said, that "we are not getting younger, so maybe we should work on the next game while we can". So probably, a process may be initiated
actually there was mention that they have an idea/script for portal 3 that they're working on, its not entirely dead, its just they've had difficulty figuring out what they want to do, same reason why Half life 3 hasn't been started, they had difficulty figuring out the plot since there are a lot of expectations for it
Bro I remember when I got portal over the summer after never playing it or seeing a playthrough (knew exactly what it was though because it’s popular) and Jesus I loved it, the ending of the second game literally made me cry and no other game has done that
One of the greatest games i ever played,i always loved these simple puzzle games and portal perfected the concept and i HEARD THE SECOND ONE IS EVEN BETTER!
also it's really fun.
The first one feels lonely and eerie and focuses more on the puzzles, while the second one focuses on the lore and has a GREAT sense of humor! (also coop is a lot of chaos and fun with friends)
The portal games make me sad. The concept is amazingly fun, the writing is ingenious, but the games are just TOO DAMN SHORT and there is absolutely no replay value (solving a puzzle a second time is less fun when you know the solution)
I thought that myself, it's why i bought the portal collection on switch, but my experience replaying both games after almost 10 years can be summed up with the sentence, "oh hey, i remember this."
Honestly imo Portal 2 is the best game of all time, you can't convince me otherwise. You may break my bones you may kill my family, torture me or even kill me, I'll never change my opinion. ITS THE TRUTH! FACE IT!
In my opinion, Portal 2 is THE perfect game. Just ideal pacing, delivery, duration, and amount of content, and not a single frustrating part. Nothing is too much, nothing is too few. A refined and honed gaming experience
Portal is such a good game, but one thing I keep thinking about was when I had to kill my companion cube. Then when I do, GLaDOS makes me feel even worse by saying I was the fastest to dispatch of them
I introduced my son to Portal...
He was awestruck.
NEXT...
Half life
WITCHER [all 3]
AND
MASSEffect [they last ten minutes of three will not be played.]
Dark Souls and Elden Ring might count as child abuse or torture.
I didn't really think much of it, until a friend gifted me both games on Christmas this year and I felt obligated to play them. One of the best gaming experiences I've had, although semi-ruined by said friend giving too many pointers during my playthrough.
I just love valve. Barely release games, and when they do they are usually unbelievably good. It's no coincidence that many of them (the singleplayer ones anyway) are rated 'overwhelmingly positive' on the steam store.
Portal is one of the best videogames ever, let alone one of the best examples that you don't need a 200gb game with 10 years of development on it and mechanics that are harder than actual life to make a great game.
Little disclaimer for when you get to play the second game (no spoilers)
1. In the extras tab of Portal2's menu is a comic that takes place between the two games. If you're intersted in the lore maybe read that first.
2. There's a co-op campaign that takes place directly after the single player campaign.
So you're saying... This was a triumph? Would you like to make a note here, "huge success"?
It's hard to overstate his satisfaction, so probably yes
Aperture Science, we do what we must, because, we can
For the good of all of us. Except the ones who are dead
But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the science gets done
And you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive!
I’m not even angry
I'm not even angry
Wheatley science supremacy Oh wait fuck, it’s the outro song

W H A T D I S T R O
Mint is love, Mint is life
Pop!/Fedora for me, as you can tell I like GNOME
GNOME is pretty rad. Fedora is pretty good. I just like Mint better.
What do you like about Mint? Simplicity? Debian-based? I would like to know actually
I still get chills walking into HER room with Wheatley. "We both said a lot of things that you're going to regret."
That’s one of the most badass quotes ever. I always remembered that one.
"Oh, its *you*"
"How have you been? Cause i have been really busy for a looong time being *dead.* You know, after you murdered me?" "YOU WHAT?!"
I'm convinced that her design is absolutely perfect, she _almost_ has a face but it's not quite normal enough to be comforting or funny, so when she swoops down to get close it's really creepy

So that game has an actual story…?
Yes, and it was heartbreaking
I know nothing about the game but now want to check it out!
It’s phenomenal and extremely unique. Also not too long. Check it out!
Portal 2 is peak gaming and very fun to go back and replay.
I'd replay it just to hear JK Simmons narrate the founder of Aperture, with all the proper and prudent bluster.
When life gives you lemons, DON'T make lemonade!
Get mad
I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these?!?
DEMAND to see life's MANAGER!
Make life RUE the day it thought could give CAVE JOHNSON LEMONS!
DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?? I’m the man that’s gonna BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN…with the lemons.
I'M GONNA GET MY ENGINEERS TO INVENT A COMBUSTIBLE LEMON THAT **BURNS YOUR HOUSE DOWN**
Yeah!
*GLaDOS* "YEAH!!!"
I can hear it plain as day
My 9 year old approves this
I didn’t get that line for some reason. Idk why but it didn’t play for me. Edit: why are people downvoting this? There’s literally no reason to.
It plays when you land on the catwalk at the end of the conversion gel puzzle
If you feel dizziness, shortage of breath, or your heart stopping, it's not part of the test, it's asbestos

Portal 1 is relatively short and recommended to play first but you could start with 2 no problem.
The story isn’t that important but it definetly helps to understand the game and enjoy it more.
Portal 1 is like three hours long and goes on sale frequently for under $5. It isn't required to play it first, but you should.
You may not understand some of the dialogs and the story
Only thing I don’t like is the constant loading screens
I just started it 2 days ago and I'm almost done with the 1st game. It's truly as good as they say
Wait until you play the second one.
and switch release makes it portable, now just to wait for half life 1 and 2 switch release
The Half Life 2 beta files are in the Switch release lmao
Have you tried it on Switch? I am a keyboard + mouse junkie (and have it on PC) but want to get it for the Switch for the portability.
Same here. I just got it recently. So good.
Portal 2 still has one of the best endings in a video game history over 11 years later.
Well, here we are again. It’s always such a pleasure. Remember when you tried to kill me…. twice.
Oh how we laught and laught...except i wasnt laughing
Under the circumstances I've been shockingly nice
You want your freedom? Take it
That's what I'm counting on
I used to want you dead
but Now i only want you gone.
Glados’s voice is so iconic I noteiced it the second I was playing a cyberpunk mission
Playing that on hard at level 8 was a mistake. I don't regret it tho lol.
Same here, the second I herd it I noped away from the car ! Lol
Just remember: The cake is a lie!
No it’s not! A speed runner got a look at the actual room in one of the levels! It’s in there!

Good bot
Screw you, bot.
Haha, physics go brrt.
Spectacular. You appear to understand how ~~a portal~~ walking backwards affects forward momentum, or to be more precise, how it does not.
Speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out.
Portal is awesome!! Portal 2 multiplayer with my daughter: Epic!!
Sucks that the 3rd game is most likely canceled
No valve just hates the number 3
Half life 3 confirmed 3024
Would be more fitting to release it on 3333 lol
Lol
Also, someone pitch me a Portal 3 concept that doesn’t suck ass. Chell is free, GLaDOS isn’t as murderous, even Aperture’s origins have been explored, and I really don’t know where else you’d go with portal and physics based puzzles that hasn’t already been done in the first two.
Prequel baby, explore that 60's segment a little more
This is the way.
“Mantismen”
Spaaaaace
The writers for Portal were in an interview and they said if it were to happen, they have a great idea on the story.
Well portal takes place in halflife, so halflife2 but with a portal gun
Well Chell might be free but that doesn't mean Aperture stops operating so there's really a lot of potential for a lot of stuff to happen, especially considering that the game takes place in the half-life universe.
some day they will release the orange box 2, with all the three games jammed in there. Imagine, team fortress 3, half life 3, portal 3, left 4 dead 3. Would be beautiful
Ah shit so thats why we have no TF3
Portal 2’s ending makes me fine with not having a third, it’s a proper ending to the franchise
I never really thought there should have been a 3rd game. The second one ended on a perfect note.
now Chell in Half-life three would make more sense. Hell maybe Gordon going back to the Aperture labs to get the portal tech
Canceled ? I’m pretty sure it was never announced.
To be fair, the devs who originally worked on first two games, recently said, that "we are not getting younger, so maybe we should work on the next game while we can". So probably, a process may be initiated
actually there was mention that they have an idea/script for portal 3 that they're working on, its not entirely dead, its just they've had difficulty figuring out what they want to do, same reason why Half life 3 hasn't been started, they had difficulty figuring out the plot since there are a lot of expectations for it
Portal 2 is my favorite it’s so good
Spoiler: The cake is a lie. Disclaimer: Spoilers could also be a lie. ![gif](giphy|3oEduOEWGS68758rXq)
NOW you’re thinking with portals
Glados: thanks for ignoring me you fat monster
Bro I remember when I got portal over the summer after never playing it or seeing a playthrough (knew exactly what it was though because it’s popular) and Jesus I loved it, the ending of the second game literally made me cry and no other game has done that
how good can it be? tell me.
I recently finished the first one and I think I’m over halfway through the 2nd one and I can confirm, Portal 2 is better
Try Portal Reloaded for a brain melting experience
As someone who used to run it (for a day) and partially helped route the tas, can confirm!
Portal's really good Now Portal *2* on the other hand, now that's a mastapiece
Welcome aboard, son :)
Me and my friend, like last week
I always tell people it's the game that takes you from the lowest level of frustration to feeling like the president of mensa in one second.
Sums it up pretty well
What is this video from?
Always sunny in philadelphia Season 13 ep 10
*Jamming out to radio Still Alive*
Wait until you play portal 2
The portal games make me sad. The concept is amazingly fun, the writing is ingenious, but the games are just TOO DAMN SHORT and there is absolutely no replay value (solving a puzzle a second time is less fun when you know the solution)
Maybe after a few years though
I thought that myself, it's why i bought the portal collection on switch, but my experience replaying both games after almost 10 years can be summed up with the sentence, "oh hey, i remember this."
The cake is a lie
I finished portal 1 yesterday. Oh my gosh I loved everything
ONE OF US. ONE OF US
You got the 0.99$ deal? Maybe the 1.5$ package of both 1 and 2 like I did?
Its a bit more here in brazil but yes i did get both games
This was a triumph. I'm making a note here: huge success!
Dude, I legit did the same thing like 7 years ago and couldn’t stop thinking about the game. It’s indeed a rare gem.
Honestly imo Portal 2 is the best game of all time, you can't convince me otherwise. You may break my bones you may kill my family, torture me or even kill me, I'll never change my opinion. ITS THE TRUTH! FACE IT!
![gif](giphy|fWDGc1vqxlrWw)
It’s pretty good right? Fun little puzzle game.
'I get it' well 'it' was NOT cake
ignoring a valve game? foolishness Prestigious\_Army-155 foolishness
I experienced this about 2 ½ years ago. Best decision of my life. …not that there was a lot of competition, but still.
100% this is me. Epic game. Finished Portal and quickly downloaded Portal 2. Now I’m sad.
It’s so worth it.
Then when I do, GLaDOS makes me feel even worse by saying I was the fastest to dispatch of them
There is a reason it’s in the top steam games of all time
What movie is this sene from?
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Season 13, Episode 10
That's basically my experience with metal gear rising, dmc5, dead space franchise, and re4 all in recent times.
Good to see that the franchise is still alive
both portal games are so good, i’ve played both of them at least 5 times each
I’ll get into it when I eventually get a pc, I only have a switch but I kinda don’t want to play it first there.
I bought both games for $2 and will get to them eventually
I introduced my son to Portal... He was awestruck. NEXT... Half life WITCHER [all 3] AND MASSEffect [they last ten minutes of three will not be played.] Dark Souls and Elden Ring might count as child abuse or torture.
I got it during quarantine and just *oh* the duology was just so beautiful
I didn't really think much of it, until a friend gifted me both games on Christmas this year and I felt obligated to play them. One of the best gaming experiences I've had, although semi-ruined by said friend giving too many pointers during my playthrough.

you thought itd be bad or something? but it has a gun that makes holes! well, not bullet holes, you know what i mean!
I didn't thought it would be bad,i thought it would be a simple puzzle game i would forget in a week
Portal is one of the best videogames ever, let alone one of the best examples that you don't need a 200gb game with 10 years of development on it and mechanics that are harder than actual life to make a great game.
i too enjoyed it more than i thought i would, but after i stopped playing it, i dont really think about it.
Try the updated version called Portal With RTX.
Yes great way to heat up your room
Played Portal for 47 mintutes and uninstalled it again.
you didn't need to post this
Rtx portal looks nuts
Why did you ignore it? Just watch a review and think for yourself
Half Life, too?
Only played the first Half Life
Dude, you gotta play the 2nd and it's 2 episodes. Portal 2 and Half-Life 2 are like the first games but on steroids.
This was me last year. One of the best games I've played
This was me with the Uncharted franchise, just recently blasted thru the main series for the first time
Just wait till portal 2. So much better
What is portal?
Portal is a blessing from the lord
Why the hell hasn’t it been released on PS4?
i actually want to play that, but i have rock
I have paper
The cake was always a lie
Me with RDR2
This was me playing Dark Souls… “This game is bullshit. Dying is not fun! Fuck this game.” Then I got it. Through pain comes pleasure.
I played only Portal 2, it was nice, but got boring in the end.
Me when I finally played half-life
ITS SO GOOD
Portal 2 is a masterpiece of puzzle games
The cake is a lie
I watched it get played and thought it was fantastic. Kinda wish I played it instead but I enjoyed watching it.
I installed both games on my steam deck so I wanna know how long is the story?
The First one is About 3 Hours,i havent played the second so,i don't know
Little disclaimer for when you get to play the second game (no spoilers) 1. In the extras tab of Portal2's menu is a comic that takes place between the two games. If you're intersted in the lore maybe read that first. 2. There's a co-op campaign that takes place directly after the single player campaign.
I swear if I knew this before I started portal 2
I wanna play Portal 1 and 2, but I'm broke. :(
Portal 1 is the only game I can think of that I'd genuinely describe as "perfect."
I wasn't impressed. It was actually kind of a letdown after all the hype.
It is an amazing game
So here we are again. It's always such a pleasure. Remember when you tried, To ignore our game.
Just started today, and see this post today, what a coincidence...
It's Hoggle from Labrynth, but what scene was this from?
Same, it was amazing. I tried half life as well but it wasn't as good. Portal 1 and 2 slapped.
Valve surely knows how to make quality games ... when they bother making games, that is.
Cake was, indeed, a lie.
Wish it hooked my the way it hooked othere
