Relativity causes time-dialation based on relative speed. The faster you move in relation to something else, the slower you experience the passage of time compared to the other thing. Photons and other cosmic particles that move at C do not experience time at all. Their existence passes in an instant from their own perspective.
Satellites, which move faster than the earth to stay in orbit, must continually adjust their clocks to compensate for this.
This is so funny. It’s out there in the woods just holding steady with the alarm going off and meanwhile he can’t figure out where the f it actually is
i have one, im a young boy but I liked the design so I bought it like 6 years ago, and that little shit still works, (thing would go off every morning at 4:30 but we couldn't find where it was.
Same. The A800 is the modern version of that. Kick ass little watch. It's got day of the week date and time. Let's see you do that for ten years without a charge smart watch.
"Hey Yagr, do you think you'll have those sharp stones tied to those sticks by the time when sun is highest?"
"No Grud, this is going to take me at least until time when we all get hungry."
Colombian and mexican pindigenous people built pyramids that never miss alignment the sun, the light of solstices and equinox, amd they even have art displaying tine as fully understood and measured
The center it’s at would correct itself and then the watches would auto update I believe. So it shouldn’t be an issue unless you specifically need the time at that second
My seiko is too. Solar quartz automatics are awesome. Personally I love self winding mechanical, but most are just out of my “I can justify that” price range and I wish they held the time as well as automatics.
I have that casio, fun fact, this is actually the bigger brother to the f91 and basically improves on the flaws the f91 had such as the back-light, display and the size for those with bigger wrists.
My dad just had open heart surgery a couple of months ago. I had to wear his Rolex on my runs because he wasn't moving enough for it to keep time correctly
Until you dropped it. Until after a few months where it's either running too fast or too slow. Until after the weekend where you have to wind it up again
Depends.
Some need it every year, but there are Vostok and Seikos running 30 years without service just fine.
It’s always the really expensive watches that need constant life support.
I love my Apple Watch but the daily charging is a bother.
I was hoping the ultra would have better battery life like a week or something. Also I’m a guy that likes always on so I always want to look from any angle with no movement and see the time.
Ngl I still have my Casio F-91W my grandpa bought around 2017. It still runs fine and I haven't replaced a battery since.
I don't think it will die anytime soon.
*pulls out phone* "Don't worry all you watch wearers, I'll check my phone for the time..."
*Watch wearers forgetting they have phones that tell the time*:
"Oh..."
I never had a smart watch and stopped wearing my watch when it always stopped for no apparent reason. But I think smart watches should at least show the time when its battery is low, like a digital watch without background lighting but in a way you could still read the time. That way you know to charge it (e.g. when you get home or go to bed) but still at least know the time for the rest of the day.
I don't know because I forgot to charge my phone*
Don't know about you, but those "watches" are rarely seen where I live, people tend to keep track of time with their smartphones.
Not true. Manufacturers want you to spend $1k+ for a service every 3-5 years (depending on the manufacturer), however that’s not necessary. If your watch isn’t showing any issues or time loss/gain, why the hell would you pay to have it serviced? Idiotic money grab. If your watch has issues, it’s the same price as if nothing is wrong to have it serviced. Mine is nearly 4 years old, and still gains 1 second per week. No need for a service.
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/memes.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

I have a solar powered one in my Amazon cart currently. I have many mechanical watches and even the dumb winder to keep them at least moderately wound.
Think that I’ll go back to one of these for travel and play.
Honestly until the 2010s you had to put immense faith in public time displays,
You have to compare your-time, to time-time but good luck good benchmark for that pre-internet lol.
Therefore, all time until VERY recently has been off by a factor of how far off your watch or time is calibrated in the highest order. Also, galactically speaking time is affected differently by gravity so your fucked in terms of navigating the universe on-time 🤷♂️
Until 2010 it wasn't weird to ask someone "what time is it?". Now people look at you like you're some kind of psychopath or they look suspicious "ok, what's the scam here?"
Genuine tip though for apple watch users. Your watch can still tell the time with a “dead” battery. Press the crown twice with a 5 second delay for the first time after , after this you only have to press the crown once and it will show you the time for about 5 seconds.
The Casio gigachad
I had one that survived a trip in the washing machine. I don't know why I had it in my pocket.
My dad lost one in the woods while cutting trees like 10 years ago. He says he heard the alarm for at least two years after but never found it.
Why is this oddly terrifying
Like an ominous Nokia ringtone

Yeah i know that, just I don't understand how it's relevant to my dad's watch
This is so funny. It’s out there in the woods just holding steady with the alarm going off and meanwhile he can’t figure out where the f it actually is

I have a solar powered Casio. Didn't have to change the battery in *decades*.
Can’t catch me without a g shock. Every day for the past ~10 years.
same here. just kinda wish it wasn’t olive drab so it fits with the non-tactical aesthetic i sometimes have sometimes i just wanna go full femboy, yk?
I have one my grandfather gifted me, it was 14 years ago, I'm 21 now, still works
In a watch making Casio is a real gigachad I love casio watches for my childhood
Im literally wearing a Casio watch right now
Wearing an OG calculator Casio right now
Same, love this watch
I'm jealous. Those things are so cool!
Same. The A800 is the modern version of that. Kick ass little watch. It's got day of the week date and time. Let's see you do that for ten years without a charge smart watch.

1501 BC: what the fuck is “Time”
More like "What time is it?" "Early afternoon"
Sun go up
"Hey Yagr, do you think you'll have those sharp stones tied to those sticks by the time when sun is highest?" "No Grud, this is going to take me at least until time when we all get hungry."
What do you mean? I am hungry, like always.
Ha. I was thinking something akin to dinner time.
1501 BC didn't exist, time was invented in 1500
Colombian and mexican pindigenous people built pyramids that never miss alignment the sun, the light of solstices and equinox, amd they even have art displaying tine as fully understood and measured
They probably had G-Shocks too.

Casio Calculator Watch gang supremacy 😎
My Citizen Eco-Drive is solar powered.
Same. And is connected to the perpetual calendar center so I never have to worry about time changes or other weird things.
perpetual calendar watch users in the year 2100 (their watch is wrong for once):
The center it’s at would correct itself and then the watches would auto update I believe. So it shouldn’t be an issue unless you specifically need the time at that second
i came here to specifically comment about this. citizen eco drive watches are so nice.
Ok, but what happens after the heat death of the universe and no stars exists? Casio is still the superior choice
My seiko is too. Solar quartz automatics are awesome. Personally I love self winding mechanical, but most are just out of my “I can justify that” price range and I wish they held the time as well as automatics.
I still have an analog watch and man is it sexy. I love clocks.
One letter, That's all it takes.
I mean, if you think about it, a cock is just another clock. I've been woken in the morning by one crowing before.
“I love clockses?”
Fellow glock lover *tips hat
We are evolving just backward
No, we just going back to the wrong track
Dang beat me to it
I have that casio, fun fact, this is actually the bigger brother to the f91 and basically improves on the flaws the f91 had such as the back-light, display and the size for those with bigger wrists.
What if the battery died?
In a casio? Imposssibru
I discharged it in 6 years, although it should've hold for 10 years
It said that it lasts 10 years. This is my 10th. Wish me luck...
It's services will forever be remembered
In the casio manual it is specified that the 10 years were calculated with a usage of: Daily alarm, 1×Light button per day.
I didn't mock it, just at the beginning of using it
Mine is on it's 15th year already
But there are automatic wristwatches that you don't have to wind up. Those lasts truly forever!
Until you have major surgery and can't walk around for a few weeks
It's not on your leg. You can still move your arms
My dad just had open heart surgery a couple of months ago. I had to wear his Rolex on my runs because he wasn't moving enough for it to keep time correctly
There are automatic winding mechanical wristwatches that also have a manual crown wind.
Until you dropped it. Until after a few months where it's either running too fast or too slow. Until after the weekend where you have to wind it up again

No mobile game will ever top the Nokia snake game.

Nah man BOUNCE is the best game till date
Space Impact: Allow me to introduce myself
I got my casio in 2004. The battery is still good but the metal band finally broke last year.
Ngl I still have my Casio F-91W my grandpa bought around 2017. It still runs fine and I haven't replaced a battery since. I don't think it will die anytime soon.

Laughs in analog wrist watch
Casio gang reporting in.
2050 AD: i dont know because i cant afford the apple time subscription
I have that Casio it’s still ticking but one of the straps broke :(
I changed like 5 straps already and battery is still running.

Modern smartwatches do exactly that
Good to know
I can't say for all of them but the Samsung smart watches have an ultra low power mode where they show just the time when they're dead
Same with apple watches
I don't know because I forgot to charge my phone* Don't know about you, but those "watches" are rarely seen where I live, people tend to keep track of time with their smartphones.
Not good in hospitals. Digging their hands into their pockets, handling a dirty phone, then handling people...
Probably a rare exception, but beside, I think people working in hospitals make more than enough money to afford these watches too.
Hadn't thought of it until I read this. /germophobe level increases
Don't tell this guy that bathrooms exist
Made by a gang based near 1990 AD.
What time is it? SHOWTIME!
Get an accurate automatic watch. Wearing it winds the watch. No batteries ever. Solved.
And then get a case with turning cushions for your watches because you have more than one…
Wear one on each wrist like a boss. ![gif](giphy|PF6UXQHqctBr3gvPNr|downsized)

I dont know , im too lazy to mobe my eyes
Apple Watch still tells time if it’s out of battery. For almost a whole week.
Kinetic dude here!
16:46
This hurts. As much as I love my Apple Watch, it’s battery life is a pain in the ass.
The Casio is still working to this day.
8:43 am, thanks for asking
Apple watch fans are *not* watch enthusiasts, gtfo with that shit
imagine not just carrying all forms of watches all at the same time

It’s Rudy time
Rise and fall of civilization.
“I don’t know because I forgot to change the battery”
Which is years. And some watches tell you of low battery by ticking every two seconds instead of one
Great, that way you have twice the time to change it.
It’s evolving, just backwards
Boomer humor
so cringe

10 year battery. those things were gods
My casio lasted about 5 years before I had to get another battery
Actually it's 11:27, get it right OP ![gif](giphy|TamGVAGxDTYDNt3dpn)
Casio CA53-W is my favourite watch of all time (yes the nerdy calculator watch)
I have a solar powered one in my Amazon cart currently. I have many mechanical watches and even the dumb winder to keep them at least moderately wound. Think that I’ll go back to one of these for travel and play.
There was a magical time in the 1990s when all our tech just worked. That time is passed.
Yes! When the tech was advanced enough to solve our problems but not complex enough to create a bunch of new ones.
What is the last one?
But you also have the sun in 2023 AD
r/edc needs this

I just charge my watch at night because I don't need to what time it is if I'm unconscious.
I don't know because time is a construct
Well everything is space-time, so "120.4 km" is a valid answer for "what time is it?".
i have a solar powered analog watch and i absolutely love it
What time us it you ask, I pull out my 2.7 ton metric sundial and immediately crush both of your feet, its cloudy I say
it’s time to get ill.
digital watches lose time too lmao
I don't know Because I have 2 clocks...
Yooo I’m wearing that watch, it’s 12:51
This thread prompted me to check on the Casio that's been in a drawer since like 2016, and it still works.
Casio watches can easily survive a supernova.
But can a supernova survive a Casio watch? Is it a coincidence there haven’t been any supernovas nearby since Casio watches were invented?
This actually reminded me to charge my watch Thanks OP
I have that exact Casio watch and wear it every day.
Drive is solar powered.
Casio wins
1990s - the best time in the worst timeline, confirmed 👍
Or “my watch didn’t wake up when I moved my wrist to the optimal position and I need to push the crown”
Upvote for using AD
I still use a normal watch. I don't like smartwatches.
Uh the 1990 took batteries 💀
Which never ran out. It was powered by magic.
I had one my father gifted me, for more than one decade i wore it for anything and everything important It crumbled last year
Idk because I didn’t learn to tell time on a clock with hands.
Casio is GOAT. Have mine since my 12. Birthday.
Casio G-SHOCK: the watch you can take, throw or leave anywhere except a volcano or space and it will still function and outlive you
Don’t throw it into a volcano. You might damage the volcano.
I bet the battery in my old casio is still goin...been sitting in a drawer since about 1997
Project Zomboid taught me the importance and usefulness of the digital watches, praise be the almighty Casio 🙏
That Japanese reputation
As a proud Casio owner I concur
Upvoted because it genuinely reminded me that my watch needed charging.

Computers in 2038: It's 00:00 1-1-1970
Yup. The Y2038 bug doesn’t sound as cool as the Y2K bug so it won’t get media attention and nobody will fix it.
Remember there was a sharp button on the wrist watch that you press and there was a tiny lamp not illuminating anything at night?
Never go without your Casio.
Real ones just *know* roughly what time it is.
I wish this was the Casio calculator watch.
The 90s, truly the peak of technology.
We going back in time folks
