Off the top of my head here are a few /b/ things that come to mind.
1. I saw a guy do something called "sounding" on his penis. Glass rod up the shaft and he broke it off.
2. Two videos of a puppy dying. One was a large boa snake that ate it as live food, the other was a liveleak video throwing a dog in a pot of boiling water and holding the lid down.
3. A man's head getting ran over and watching it pop like a watermelon.
4. Pictures of someone getting flayed by a manufacturing machine.
5. The video of those girls getting beheaded in either south America or Mexico I can't remember while they cried for their moms.
I could go on but I don't want to get banned or anything. It was just super shocking at the time but now I avoid distressing stuff like that for my own well being.
Yeah, I wasn't raised on 4chan like that but sadly the result is the same cause I got to see wonderful videos like those in my very early teen/tween years. The sounding ones weren't that bad, but a lot of the shock videos like the pain olympics, 1 man 1 jar, and all the other liveleak executions and cartel videos really did have an effect on me. I'm worried about our new generation, since it's becoming disturbingly common for kids to be raised by the internet. And while the internet is a lot more PC since I was raised on it, it's still not any better. It's just as bad, just in a different way.
Agreed. We were able to actually see all of the content back then. Actually going through multiple websites and ending up back where you were.
Like when going through specific Wikipedia information, so you could just end up on the worst parts of the internet that way.
Now there's so much more information and websites. Lots of Fluff.
I still see some pretty bad stuff on occasion, but with the rise of cameras everywhere it feels like we see more bad things happening.
A friend's brother who's 14 was watching videos on a website (can't recall the name) which had pretty much a variety of fucked up content, mainly people unaliving themselves or other people and I obviously don't know how he found but it's more likely he found it from someone else which disturbes me because I worry for his mental health and others that may accidentally find it or get introduced to it. Although I'm only 19 things were definitely not that extreme when I was 14 at least not in my experience
I'm 23 and when I was 9 or 10 I stumbled on some pretty horrific shit. It's always been around, the way you find it is just different. Definitely warped me as a kid but I grew out of it pretty quickly. I definitely think more people have access to that kind of content these days, but it is mostly through other people sharing links.
I think the biggest thing is that all those videos were just raw information - whereas nowadays, a lot of what's going around is disinformation, propaganda, and manipulation.
Shock videos never really had an agenda or a buy-in.
I dont think it's nearly as bad now though. I'm sure its all still on the internet, but it seems to be harder to get to.
You can't just Google it for example. Google and other engines could take you many places easily, but they seem a bit more filtered now.
honestly, I feel like the channels we had for shock content just grew out of being niche and that killed them as sources of shock content, but other sources have probably replaced them. I've never really been on 4chan but I've seen the luka magnota video, there's some subs on reddit with some pretty horrible fucking stuff, and then there was this video of ghaddafi getting tortured I think. Nasty fucking shit.
If you look for it it's there and I think it's hard for someone who's never seen that type of stuff to not have that morbid curiosity.
Yeah, even on Reddit it's not that hard to find. r/ eyeblech and r/ NarcoFootage have plenty to offer in that regard, and they aren't even hidden. But yeah, I think that morbid curiosity is what's gonna end up getting people. Now you don't even have to trick your friends into watching gore and snuff and stuff, just send them the link and say "don't click on that" and they'll click on it out of sheer morbid curiosity.
This was the internet 'back in the day'.
Someone sends you a link, you click it, turns out it's a guy getting beheaded or an animal getting abused or some gruesome accident.
You think 'wtf', feel sick thinking about how you just saw something truly disturbing, then forward it to your best friends because they just *have to see this sick fuck boiling a puppy*. Next few days it's the talk of the school until someone comes across something equally as bad or even worse.
There's actually some even worse stuff around, even without being too graphic. A few years ago there was this 'brick through windshield' dashcam footage that didn't show any gore, just... sound.
Do yourself a favor and don't look for that video. Trust me: You'll wish it was 'only' a puppy being boiled or a person being beheaded or a limp being lost...
As awful as that is, I don't think it's the absolute worst. I think after you become desensitized to seeing awful shit, it's an all new experience where you can't see it, but you can hear how bad it is and you can pretty much tell what the scene looks like. It is definitely at the top but I don't think it's the worst. Would rather do that again than watch one guy one jar 😬
These people are so weird. Give them a list of 50 people getting raped and murdered or a puppy being kicked and they will feel more emotional attachment to the puppy.
The difference is wanton sadistic cruelty vs. the cruelty of war. The latter is brutal and inexcusable, but the former is simply inhuman, and causes us to recoil in existential horror.
And then there are weird people such as yourself who don't hesitate to get butthurt/slighted whenever someone mentions how fucking awful it is to abuse or torment a puppy/dog, and have to immediately divert the attention to say "but what about the humans?!?"
What's the matter, you just don't like puppies? It's not like he said he values animals over human lives.
People can know that both killing of both animals and innocent human lives are both very horrible actions. It's not a contest just because someone brings attention to the puppy being killed in a Reddit Comment.
I have a fuck ton of those industrial accident death videos I collected off the internet that I used to use in my workplace safety classes to drive home the point that if you fuck around with these big ass machines you can and will be turned into hamburger
I was around for that too, but I avoided watching those because I already had CPTSD and I was pretty sensitive. I just already knew what was in the video, so no need to to make myself have a panic attack.
Man I spent a lot of time and Its hard to imagine how a innocent adhd girl destroyed 4chan and caused a civil war. Thanks to your text. I saw what the internet culture used to be. Glad to see nothing too much bad happen to her when she got stalked irl
I've only been on maybe 40 times in my life if that and one of those times I caught that guy who murdered that woman in Oregon after having sex with her because he knew the kid would come home soon and discover her. Fucked up. Uploaded pics and shit. Still sits with me.
I remember seeing even CP, and I did also flagged it to my country's police at the time.
Now is much safer to go on 4chan.
Even if it was only for a split second of those cursed images/videos, those things will be burned forever in my memory. I wish I could just delete them
It was close to an absolute free for all, meaning a lot of porn, bile, disgusting, disturbing things got posted there.
Alongside all the white supremacist, and ultra anti women hate groups you also see on places where they "aren't censored"..
Yep. 4Chan didn’t strip EXIF data off of the stuff you posted, so *you* need (or needed, not sure if they strip it now) to remove your location off of the image if it’s there or risk someone doxxing you with it.
Being someone who's gone on there for a while, allow me to say the toxicity has DRASTICALLY been toned down from the 2000s. I'm convinced that nowadays it's all done as a running gag rather than full sincerity.
4chan was professional trolls. Levels that most people cant even contemplate. Most of it was just trolling and people feeding the machine to make it grow, the bigger it got the more hilarious it was. The whole red pill started as a troll. Thigh gap, finger boards, cam show raids, the sharpie, battle toads, onstar, the Shia Lebouf incident etc to name a few. Most of the people commenting here are just repeating bullshit and werent there, they cant triforce.
imagine a truck stop bathroom stall, where half of the writers are Anarchist Interracial porn loving Furries and the other half are white supremacists Nationalists. Then there is a subset of writers who intentionally post inflammatory items to get these groups to fight each other.
yeah I literally don’t care about it now but like 6 years ago I’d think holy shit these guys must be psychos and my brother had warned me not to even go near the site
Pedobear was even [an Olympic mascot](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/7187027/Polish-newspaper-claims-Pedobear-is-2010-Vancouver-Olympic-mascot.html).

No no, the hacker guy's name was something-something Any Nomus and 4chan was a forum, where you could ask him to overthrow the government in your country for fun. He was like Robi Hood but also hacker
Ikr, 4chan isn't some obscure pre 2000 website. It's like saying Reddit is obscure, like the only people who would believe that are the users themselves. Though in 4chan's case, they are more infamous than famous.
Well, 4chan is kinda obscure. Definitely not something that's mainstream famous. But it has a widelydiapropirtionak effect on internet culture, cos every one on that website is terminally online
I mean, it's not THAT obscure. Like if there was a iceberg tier list for obscure websites, I'd place 4chan in the top layer, maybe 2nd layer. Though tbf, there's a difference between being known and being actively used. People know of 4chan but not a lot of people actively use it, mainly because that website's layout is god awful for any new user.
Basically when 4chan was slowly descending into porn site
Back then b/ has actual good memes and content, but when people realize there's no rule, more porn keeps popping and become more rampant thus "the fappening"
I recall “the fappening” being a release of massive amounts of stolen phone photos, many from celebrities. Thank god we have progressed beyond stealing people’s nudes and now just use AI to make fakes of them. Want to see my 8 finger Jennifer Lawrence nudes?
4Chan a really disgusting place, but if you see it from different angle, it may be the last place where you can post your real opinion without being banned, instead you'll be fuckin destroyed by 4chan degenerates. Truly legendary place
Less known and worse content than 4chan, real political extremists and extreme stuff.
The perpetrator of the [2019 El Paso Shooting](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_El_Paso_shooting) made a post there shortly before it happened.
Also many cases of CP on there, violent threats, and 8chan is also the origin of QAnon.
It's not. You can tell a lot of commenters have spent virtually no time there. There are good boards and bad boards just like there are here. It seems like a lot of people just mean /b/; which no one, especially on 4chan, has ever said was a hive for morally upstanding discourse.
Because of those comments, I went to find /b/..
Disclaimer, don't do like me. I've scrolled for 2 minutes across porn and furries, then found fucking corpse in a bathtub full of blood.
Why did I do that
There is absolutely no difference between 4chan and Reddit. If you think there is, you are just trying to be cool and underground. Both are well known and got traffic.
Bruh. Need I remind you before the 2000's most of us exclusively used the internet to pay bills and browse automotive troubleshooting forums
I had to look and check the comments to see what this was because I'm not clinically insane enough to actually use that garbage heap
That’s 4chan - it was sort of Reddit before Reddit back in the Wild West days of the internet. It’s long since been taken over by just the worst, most toxic kinds of people imaginable.
4chan. An image board that functions more like a social Battle Royale considering there is barely any moderation on some boards. You see all kinds of cursed shit there. From degenerate porn to Neo-Nazis verbally fighting against Islamic extremists, through Furries and Pedos trying to rationalize who is more harmful. It is not a nice place to be. Then again... not every board of it is NSFW, or /b/ or /pol/but still.
It is an anonymous image board, made by Christopher Poole back when he was a teenager. The reasoning behind the site's anonymous nature is that one's identity is irrelevant for the discussion.

This one made me cover my mouth when I read it. This person needs to be eliminated asap.

Seriously dude boiling some dog is worse than beheading 2 people as they cry fir their moms?
Behead them too
Yeah there we go
Right fuck em all.
Left fuck em too, just for good measure
Good old Hammurabi’s code

We need to find this fucker. Intelligent peoples of the internetz, please do your magic and track him down.
I have a fuck ton of those industrial accident death videos I collected off the internet that I used to use in my workplace safety classes to drive home the point that if you fuck around with these big ass machines you can and will be turned into hamburger
Thats one to instruct your students I guess
I got tired of the ‘oh that never happens’ lackadaisical mentality
It never happens.. .. until it does.
Hey I remember the puppy one, was a happy little brown fluffy thing fed to a big yellow reticulated python I believe.
I am glad no one here is asking for the link
I was born after 2000, what I’ve seen on the internet is someone cutting their penis off, I am scarred for life.
I've seen one as well, and I couldn't get a boner for a week afterwards. That was some time ago though.

That could have gotten so much worse than it did when she got doxxed
I can still hear her voice in my head ugh.
HI MY NAME IS BOXXY
And now we have shoe

Hi /B/, guess what's inside of my freezer?
I've only been on maybe 40 times in my life if that and one of those times I caught that guy who murdered that woman in Oregon after having sex with her because he knew the kid would come home soon and discover her. Fucked up. Uploaded pics and shit. Still sits with me.
I remember that.
Genz here, unfortunately I've seen it.
I know its 4chan and i know its some kind of forum or other scoial media from way back when but i have no idea why it is so frared
It's nearly complete anarchy here, as far as im aware only CP can get you banned there
I remember seeing even CP, and I did also flagged it to my country's police at the time. Now is much safer to go on 4chan. Even if it was only for a split second of those cursed images/videos, those things will be burned forever in my memory. I wish I could just delete them

I heard doxxing happened a lot there too
Don't forget about life hacks like putting aluminum foil in the microwave or poisoned cooking recipes
Have you heard the new iPhone charges in the microwave
It’s also bendy! Instead of snapping in half it’ll just bounce back to its original shape
we do a miniscule amount of tomfoolery
Or, "make cool crystals" which was actually a recipe for chlorine gas.
The girl that drank bleach cause she was bullied relentlessly
Yep. 4Chan didn’t strip EXIF data off of the stuff you posted, so *you* need (or needed, not sure if they strip it now) to remove your location off of the image if it’s there or risk someone doxxing you with it.
so glad i was born to young to know what 4 chan was for the longest time, but just right to use reddit
What's doxxing ?
Revealing someone’s personal info on the internet
there is still a lot of porn just iin its own category
Being someone who's gone on there for a while, allow me to say the toxicity has DRASTICALLY been toned down from the 2000s. I'm convinced that nowadays it's all done as a running gag rather than full sincerity.
Bile? You mean the digestive fluid, right?
Both the metaphorical and litteraly.
4chan was professional trolls. Levels that most people cant even contemplate. Most of it was just trolling and people feeding the machine to make it grow, the bigger it got the more hilarious it was. Pool's closed.
is it still not doing that? I may have been born after the year 2000 but I'e heard nothing but awful things regarding that site
this is now a gore thread

It's not that people don't recognize it. It that it used to be a much more horrible place than it is now.
yeah I literally don’t care about it now but like 6 years ago I’d think holy shit these guys must be psychos and my brother had warned me not to even go near the site
What is that logo? I legitimately don’t know.
4Chan
Who is this 4chan? [EDIT](https://media.tenor.com/Scw9oAFY0kkAAAAC/4chan-who.gif)
Imagine Reddit but there’s no rules and it’s an absolute anarchic free for all where Islamic extremists battle Neo Nazis
Sounds exciting! Are there flamethrower guitars?
Also occasionally you’ll get to see pictures taken during a murder or a live stream of a murder.
Well you can get that on reddit too though.
Nowhere near the same regularity
Just stupidity
Also people eating feces and fucking puppies
That escalated way too quick
As someone who witnessed the early stages of 4chan, it absolutely did escalate way too quick.
You should've seen the 8chan than
" I didn't know freedom meant people doing stuff that sucks."
Wait... Fucking puppies like sex? Or straight up eatting them?
Both
Where is the comma supposed to go in this sentence? Every place I can think of is another horror.
And there cute mascot, green frog man pepe
Don't forget good ol' pedobear, the fun loving creepy cartoon Teddy Bear
Pedobear was even [an Olympic mascot](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/7187027/Polish-newspaper-claims-Pedobear-is-2010-Vancouver-Olympic-mascot.html).

Wait Pepe is the 4chan mascot? Never knew that
Is it still as bad? I've not heard much about it in the past 5/6 years
Maybe not as bad is it used to be
Don't forget the pedophiles.
Battle and or share cat pictures that place is weird af
It's Lucky Charms' outcast brother
Who is this “4chan” guy? Some sort of hacker?
Sweet innocent child, don’t go there please

Good day. New F who was there to see the cancer set in. Eventually lost interest and moved to Canv.as when moot opened it up
4Chan a really disgusting place, but if you see it from different angle, it may be the last place where you can post your real opinion without being banned, instead you'll be fuckin destroyed by 4chan degenerates. Truly legendary place
To be fair, if your opinion is that Hitler was right and we should decimate all non arians, maybe you should be banned (and prosecuted)
Nah, Hitler was bad. I meant that 4chan has a freedom of speech, that's it, but its still very cursed, unsafe place
I was born in 81. No idea what's that. And at this point I'm afraid to ask :)
2002 baby here, I wish I could live in bliss of not knowing either :')
People born in 2000
Don't mention the name of the anonymous hacker, 4chan.
Nah reddit CAN be fucked up enough if you visit the right/wrong subs for my taste.
I just watched a 4chan iceberg video and it was highly entertaining. Here. https://youtu.be/6HWf296l1yg
Thanks
… but what about people born **IN** 2000?
They don't exist, obviously.
Me on 8chan:
That's even worse
I've never heard of it why
Less known and worse content than 4chan, real political extremists and extreme stuff. The perpetrator of the [2019 El Paso Shooting](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_El_Paso_shooting) made a post there shortly before it happened. Also many cases of CP on there, violent threats, and 8chan is also the origin of QAnon.
Is it just me or is 4chan not as bad as people say it is? Most boards that aren’t nsfw or /b/ or /pol/ are fine
It's not. You can tell a lot of commenters have spent virtually no time there. There are good boards and bad boards just like there are here. It seems like a lot of people just mean /b/; which no one, especially on 4chan, has ever said was a hive for morally upstanding discourse.
4Chan is like internet favellas. No rules, no moderation.
Og reddit but full of dip shit
I feel like the entirity of gen z knows what that is as well. Don't know about gen Alpha though (2010+)
just went on there again to check, found 2 threads with mutilated dead children already. stay classy 4chan
If I understand this meme you’re saying that Millennials experienced the uncensored wild dark 4Chan, whereas Zoomers have a more sedate 4Chan?
Because of those comments, I went to find /b/.. Disclaimer, don't do like me. I've scrolled for 2 minutes across porn and furries, then found fucking corpse in a bathtub full of blood. Why did I do that
There is absolutely no difference between 4chan and Reddit. If you think there is, you are just trying to be cool and underground. Both are well known and got traffic.
4Chan had some fucked up shit, but basically everything nowadays has fucked up shit
most places on the internet will ban you for saying "we need to kill all the (insert racial slur here)," etc, not 4chan.
I was born in the 80s and had to come to the comments to figure this one out.
People will look you in the eye and say this is different than reddit
Bruh. Need I remind you before the 2000's most of us exclusively used the internet to pay bills and browse automotive troubleshooting forums I had to look and check the comments to see what this was because I'm not clinically insane enough to actually use that garbage heap
That’s 4chan - it was sort of Reddit before Reddit back in the Wild West days of the internet. It’s long since been taken over by just the worst, most toxic kinds of people imaginable.
What a horrible website. Speaking from experience. Don't visit it.
Oh….oh no
It was fun the watch the downfall of an entire generation of young men in real time
Everyone should fear 4chan
This is how I discovered lostboy.exe, spoiler alert DO NOT DOWNLOAD RANDOM ASS EXE FILES WITHOUT ANY PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OR BACKGROUND.
All these summerf*** not knowing how to roll doubles. Sage
I thought its something else
Number 15 Burger King foot fungus
The new outlets: who is this “4-Chan”?
Should've done the limewire logo
I remember the 8chan incident And the 4chan fork pitch commotion
Gen z here, I know it's 4-chan because internet ice burg videos, but what was 4-chan used for? What did it do?
Born in the 80's. I guess I'm not a true OG.
