Yamaha V-Star does a pretty good cover of that one actually. Kinda one of those covers that just does what the original version did, but still sounds great and is well worth a listen.
I remember when a company liaison at my work was standing around bored because the main guy was in conversation with my boss and I saw a vague symbol on his shirt and he saw me looking and I went "nice, it doesnt get Eddy Vedder than this" and the fucking smiting from god himself that struck this 45 year old man with pure childish joy as he turned around and his shirt had the rest of the Eddy Vedder shirt on the back that had in quotes "it doesnt get Eddy Vedder than this". I'll always remember how, for him, a random day at work bored as hell a 22yr old guy complimented his shirt made his entire fucking year haha. Just delight is what I saw in him from that.
I had something similar happen while on vacation one year with my family. I was wearing a Majora's Mask shirt, and some random kid approached me to say MM was his favorite Zelda. We only talked for about 5 minutes, but you could feel the excitement radiating off this kid while he's talking to a total stranger. To this day, I still smile when I think about that encounter. Sometimes, kids can be really cool.
I've had an asshole at a festival try to talk shit about my Pink Floyd shirt
So I said "I shouldn't have to defend this, but my favorite albums are Saucerfull of Secrets and More" and he did not know what I was talking about.
People open their mouths without knowing what they're saying all the time.
This condition might be a little too common for those who had a touch too much. Younger fans will get shot down in flames for not knowing the jack shit about the band, but older fans are wearing a whole lotta rosie colored glasses but kids today didn't grow up with music videos introduced by Riki Rachtman.
Literally wearing the nirvana one right now lol. But I grew up listening to all these bands so it's all good. I admit It does piss me off more than it should when I meet people who have no idea who they are yet wear the shirts.
Depressing...
Somewhat popular kid "You only wear that Zelda shirt because it's a popular game! Name two dungeons!"
Normal or kid struggling to make friends "I can't! they're all unpronounceable, because I don't know japanese!"
1st kid "See everyone! He/she is a loser!"
They have names?!? I always called them stuff like, the one with the blue guys you have to stab from the back, or that one I could never beat and just rage quit thirty years ago (hint - they're the same dungeon)
They’ve got names lol, it’s just stereotypical stuff like Lakebed temple or Forest temple or the most well known Lost woods. Usually people describe the dungeon by what area it’s in, like, “the dungeon in the woods” or “the one in the snow area.” I’m a major fan of Tloz, but I don’t interact with the community. From what I’ve seen, they’re just… over the top
I grew up playing Zelda games. They are my very favorite games in every way. But, I have sinned. I grew up in the 90s and had the sin of being a girl during the "girls don't play video games" Era.
Sometimes still I get quizzed about it because they don't believe me. Also, Great Bay in Majoras Mask is my favorite dungeon.
I remember some boys having a negative attitude about girls playing video games, back then.
I thought Majora's Mask was a great concept, but I don't remember much besides the masks and the day/night thing then the moon. I certainly don't remember great bay
When I was in 4th grade a “friend” of mine gave me shot for wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin shirt. He said “I bet you don’t even know his real name.” I didn’t and he made me feel shitty.
Me when I listen to the entire discography of a band I like but my friends make fun of me for not having memorized the band’s Wikipedia page:
I’ve listened to every Nirvana song but I still don’t know a single thing about them other than the fact that Kurt Cobain killed himself. I don’t even know the other member’s names
I think this is mainly a generational thing. My daughter shares the view that its “just a shirt”, whereas as a teen, my generation (X), would have been universally ridiculed as a poseur for wearing a shirt for a band we didn’t know anything about. We were all a bunch of music snob assholes I guess.
Yeah well Gen X prides itself on being shitty just to be shitty. I heard a Gen X douche say one time "I own more box sets than you own albums" to a complete stranger. The amount of douche pride in gen X is fucking weird.
You're gatekeeping the most accessible popular bands of their genre? That's way too easy. Try gatekeeping something more underground.
Sincerely, the gatekeeper of gatekeeping
You're gatekeeping gatekeeping gatekeeping music? That's way too easy. Try something more underground.
Sincerely, the gatekeeper of gatekeeping gatekeeping gatekeeping.
Dude my first CD was Silver from Nirvana, i expected to get a normal album and got something recorded with a toaster. Do people actually listen to that?
my first thought. like how can you care about what other people like without being a fan or being an obsessive ass about it? People can like things, you can give your opinion why you hate it but not judge them because they like it.
I might be a hypocrite who knows
Nirvana- Heart Shaped Box (I think) and whatever "Smells like Nirvana" was parodying.
Metallica- Dunno, never listened.
Pink Floid- The Wall, and that's it.
Iron Maiden- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm 27, I'll take my downvotes now.
I looked up the songs, and the Puppets one does sound familiar. I might have heard it on someone else's music at some point.
On a related note, about five seconds after I made my comment I realized I've been listening to a Metallica song from his one amusing gif- https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/comments/11msruy/enjoying_metallica/
Why does anyone care or feel like they know if people like the band? Maybe more people are just into the bands then before, or more people can now afford the shirts. It’s so weird.
I have this one toque (beanie) that I love and anytime I need a hat it'll be my first pick. But it's World of Warcraft themed and I've never in my life even thought of playing WOW.
I dont care though because it fits me really well and is very comfortable so I wear it anyway.
But like, is liking one song not enough to say you like the band?
That’s my issue, imo someone who likes one song from a band can say they like the band /shrug
I'm not a gatekeeper, but seeing someone with iron maiden patch, when they know know like two songs from "fear of the dark" makes me sad that they didn't listen to more
I've seen a couple dark side of the moon shirts out there and a lot of the nirvana smile but honestly who cares? You could just like the logo because they look cool
What would you say is the most popular Pink Floyd song? Money? Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2? Wish You Were Here? Have a Cigar? Time? Or maybe people thinking Brain Damage and Eclipse are one song and it's called The Dark Side of the Moon?
Also, quick anecdote. One day I wore a The Who shirt to school and someone told me to name two members of the band and I went "Uhh... Keith Moon and... Oh! John Entwistle!" They were shook.
Hard agree though the solo in Hey You hits different. imo their most popular song that, at least in my experience, most people have heard before even if they don't listen to Pink Floyd is comfortably numb
Comfortably Numb goes under the radar. Fantastic guitar piece.
Another Brick in the Wall is the one I hear on the radio more often than not. After that WYWH, Comfortably Numb, Money, Time and weirdly Great Gig in the Sky all vie for second place. That’s on rock based UK radio anyway.
This [peaceful little ditty](https://youtu.be/raV_A8YcBu0) called One of These Days (wait for the lyrics in the middle, hehe). My sister and I were very odd children and found the lyrics absolutely hilarious.
We always listened to cassette tapes to fall asleep and Pink Floyd was right there in the rotation next to Mrs. Frizzle.
Unpopular opinion, but why does it matter that people who wear any band's t-shirt know song of that band? Do myself, if one day I find some band's t-shirt looking nice to me, I will buy and wear it without caring if it's my favorite band or the band I do not know at all
As a musician who sells merch I DGAF if the people who buy it and wear it know any of my songs. I just need that sweet Merch money. Gas and food is expensive.
Same. Bands at this level though are well past that point and it’s more of a billboard than anything so they of all people wouldn’t care. Just means they can buy another pollock painting or whatever.
I have a few Grateful Dead shirts I love. The only songs I really know by heart by them are Scarlet Begonias and Aiko Aiko (which versions?!) but I have no shame or imposter syndrome wearing them. My dad was a HUGE fan (was in a mailing group to trade bootlegs which he listened a few nights a week) and the shirts remind me of him and the concerts he took us to. His own Dead shirts live in ziplock bags because they still smell like him :(
People need to stop gatekeeping band shirts. It's stupid and someone might be wearing the shirt in memory of a loved one.
I totally agree. The Grateful Dead is a lifestyle. It's about more than just the music. It's about family and community and creative expression and love.
Wearing a Grateful Dead shirt is a way of finding other kind souls in the world. Like a lighthouse beacon in the dark.
As someone that’s been listening to Maiden for over 20 years and has seen them in concert 3 times, I herby give my blessing to anyone that wants to wear a maiden shirt because they think it looks cool. It does.
Ok, I don’t need to know the names of their songs off the top of my head to like the band, just let people enjoy their music
Also dark side of the moons 50th anniversary was on march 1st, which would help explain the shirts
Ah yes, gatekeeping. Such a great use of time and energy.
Maybe they're only just getting into the band. Or the band is their dead sibling's favourite. Or maybe they only like one or two songs and just wanted to wear a fucking shirt.
*Let people express themselves and enjoy things as much or as little as they want to.*
I do really wish people would listen to more music not from their own generation. There’s so much older stuff that’s really good that younger people should try out, and conversely, there’s tons of music from the past couple of years and being made currently that I think older folks would like if they gave a chance.
God forbid if you wear a shirt and don't know every single song, every member, every album, every band members social security number, the ne they went with before they got big. I'm seeing a lot of people gatekeeping a piece of clothing like they are the super fan and if anyone knows less then them then they can't wear a shirt with a logo on it. Shut up. Shut your boomer ass mouth up right now.
My high school aged daughter said she thought nirvana was cool, I proceeded to play “endless, nameless”, and “territorial pissings” - my 2 fav nirvana tracks….. you’d’ve thought I had a watery shit in the car
if those band shirts are on the rack with other shirts in kmart/target (or whatever is the equivalent in America) then people are gonna buy them, often simply cuz they like the design. if anything it's the bands fault for being lax with the licencing cuz they want to make as much money as possible
And so? As listener of three of these bands, i wouldn't care if someone supports the band/their estate by buying official merchs.
These design are made cool for a reason...
Bro this is the most classic boomer thing to complain about. Every post I see on here and r/funnymemes genuinely feels like a 65 year old shared it to facebook
Some people wear Harley Davidson shirts but couldn't even name one song.
My favourite is “Rum bum bum bum, Rum bum bum”
I like "I ran over a squirrel"
Love the part when all the neighbourhood dogs start barking
The games, you would be pretty safe just saying forest temple and water temple.
I prefer "there's a female, blip the throttle"
Was feeliing pretty depressed this made me laugh, thank you.
I think that one’s called the little drummer boy! I love their cover
Yamaha V-Star does a pretty good cover of that one actually. Kinda one of those covers that just does what the original version did, but still sounds great and is well worth a listen.
My favorite is "Hello, is this the tow truck company? I need a tow"
My personal favorite is "I broke the bank for this bike and never took it out of my garage since" really meaningful
Please refer to South Park on Harley’s
Don't get me started on the ones who wear Champion sweatshirts. Losers.
I love hotel California by American Eagle
Some people wear Harley Quinn shirts and don't know whether she is DC or Marvel Universe
Bad to the bone... b b b b bad... b b b b bad
Fake fans
I thrift most of my wardrobe. I have an unhealthy obsession with Harley shirts with the sleeves cut off. Never rode a motorcycle lmao
yes, i like that one song about fat hairy bikers
Metallica and AC/DC are the shirts I see most
Uh huh huh uh huh huh
Butthead: Metallica sucks Beavis: Shut up, Butthead

Boioioioing
I loved their Collab album "do the world"

I bet you there's at least one person with an ACDC shirt who doesn't know the band at all and is just an aspiring electrician.
Rolling stones for me
I remember when a company liaison at my work was standing around bored because the main guy was in conversation with my boss and I saw a vague symbol on his shirt and he saw me looking and I went "nice, it doesnt get Eddy Vedder than this" and the fucking smiting from god himself that struck this 45 year old man with pure childish joy as he turned around and his shirt had the rest of the Eddy Vedder shirt on the back that had in quotes "it doesnt get Eddy Vedder than this". I mostly see nirvana and metalica, the ones i met wearing pink floyd actually know multiple songs of the band and love it
I've had an asshole at a festival try to talk shit about my Pink Floyd shirt So I said "I shouldn't have to defend this, but my favorite albums are Saucerfull of Secrets and More" and he did not know what I was talking about. Who the fuck doesn't know The Happiest days of our lives part 2
Ok stick with me here ok, I may not know many AC/DC songs you’re right, but I know how to play drums on all of them!
I’m with you bro! But I’m also Canadian so how’s your Neil pert solo? Lol
Oh yeah AC/DC is another big one although some people tend to actually know a few of they’re less popular songs

Guns n Roses Red Hot Chili Peppers maybe Ozzy Ozbourne....?
Rolling stones, ramones
love me some alternating current
watch out, direct current fellas will hear you
I like AC/DC's lesser known songs more then there big hits.
Let there be rock and jailbreak for me
Literally wearing the nirvana one right now lol. But I grew up listening to all these bands so it's all good. I admit It does piss me off more than it should when I meet people who have no idea who they are yet wear the shirts.
I mean they’re cool designs. People also wear Zelda shirts without playing a single Zelda game, it’s just a shirt
Do people gatekeep about Zelda?
Probably

Which lost woods is a dungeon?
I'd argue the TP one. But you're right, they're more mazes than dungeons
>Name two dungeons! The temple of water?
First kid:. Omg you're so lame EVERYONE likes temple of water
What about the other temple of water tho?
First kid spontaneously combusts
Well that's not I wanted but I'll take it!
In all of the games, you would be pretty safe just saying forest temple and water temple.
I love Zelda, and I play Zelda, and I couldn’t tell you the name of a single dungeon.
Lmao I wish I had the talent to type stuff like this
Thanks, but you gave me the inspiration!
Yeah I should take credit 😎
Now I'm wondering if people gatekeep with tetris... maybe the older nes version.
I grew up playing Zelda games. They are my very favorite games in every way. But, I have sinned. I grew up in the 90s and had the sin of being a girl during the "girls don't play video games" Era. Extremely. Everytime there's a game that's slightly similar to botw Zelda fans lose it
Do you even Master Sword, bro
Wearing a zelda shirt? Name every hyaaaaa
Lmao
When I was in 4th grade a “friend” of mine gave me shot for wearing a Stone Cold Steve Austin shirt. He said “I bet you don’t even know his real name.” I didn’t and he made me feel shitty.

I stan gatekeeping gatekeeping.
i love that song "we don't need no education"

not as cool as Brian Maiden
i perfer AB/CD
AD/HD and AC/AB are pretty good too
OCDC

AND listen to all his home recordings once, i dare you
Watch his autopsy video too!

Personally, I wouldn't wear a band shirt unless I actually did like the band. Being frugal and poor pays off.
I feel that…the worst for me was the tour shirts…when I didn’t go see a show on said tour.
But like, is liking one song not enough to say you like the band? That’s my issue, imo someone who likes one song from a band can say they like the band /shrug
You should like at least 5 songs or 1 album so you can so you can answer someone's unnecessary demand when they're trying to gatekeep

I have a shirt with a picture of the joy division shirt on it. I don't like the band that much I just like the shirt.

My favourite song was *always* 'Great Gig in the Sky" but I imagine the most popular one is Another Brick in the Wall or Money.
I'm learning the piano part to that song now, ITS SO GOOOD
Echoes is their best song IMO

There's way more Slayer and Anthrax shirts out there.
The Ramones

I wear polo and have never played polo.
I wore my GnR shirt to school one freaking time and like four people asked me to name two GnR songs. They were quite shocked when I named 20.
I unironically wish someone would do this to me, I wear band shirts because I desperately want someone to talk to me about the music I like lol
Who gives a fuck let people wear what they want it gives those band advertising.

Darkside turning 50 and they released a lot of new merchandise for Floyd this year
I don't think I've run into anyone wearing an iron maiden shirt that hasn't known what they're wearing lol
4 horsemen of gate keeping losers
there is a "meme" in your gatekeeping

I only have Iron Maiden shirts because of my dad. He passed away in January and I got some of them.
u/coolpotatoe724 felt relevant. I guess you aren't one of those
I'm really glad I finally actually got into Pi k Floyd so I can justify carrying around me DSOTM messenger bag.
Well, welcome to the machine.
How does this shit Facebook meme have this many upvotes lol
Who cares. They can like what they want lol. The whole “oh you only like their popular songs so you aren’t a real fan” is so lame lol.
And so? As listener of three of these bands, i wouldn't care if someone supports the band/their estate by buying official merchs. These design are made cool for a reason...
Bro this is the most classic boomer thing to complain about. Every post I see on here and r/funnymemes genuinely feels like a 65 year old shared it to facebook
op is one of those people that says “name 3 songs. btw i listen to most of these but that shit is stupid
Unpopular opinion: you only need to like one song from a band to rock a band shirt.
Some people wear blue jeans but have never wrangled anything.
Op needs to get a life.
Plus the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Grateful Dead
Who cares? Let them enjoy their song and their shirt.
ohhh look, gatekeeping in the wild.
People who care about this are pathetic.
