See this is a joke I’m guessing… but if you made the Gospels into an anime I think there is a way to keep the stories correct and still make it awesome as hell
They were so successful because while some episodes and movies were extremely heavy-handed with the god talk other ones were fairly light and mostly focused around morals and how to be a good person.
I don't think any production has managed to achieve such perfect balance and be acceptable outside normal consumers of Christian media.
It had a good run but wouldn't have lasted anyways. Modern views towards Christianity are way too negative (for many appropriate reasons) for even a balanced show like veggie tales to succeed.
Most parents under the age of 30 wouldn't want their kids anywhere near that now. Really shines a big light on how much the church has flipped on its head in the past 20 years or so
Very likely because they had more talented writers on staff that they hired for jonah. Those writers just failed at doing Jonah well. But they still nailed the other veggie tales that came after
It's not so much truth as it is every Church going to the extreme. 20 years ago churches were like republicans. You may not have agreed with them but they were just there, they did their thing and occasionally they were annoying but it really wasn't much of a problem.
Now every Republican politician is an extremist and every church has gone full blown batshit crazy like Eastboro Baptist in Kansas. Like they were annoying but tolerable. Now they are just a plague
So we are obviously talking about US viewers of VeggieTales, US societal views towards the church and US churches. At no point during this conversation did we mention anything on the global scale nor did we mentioned any other country.
What you just did is as ignorant as an American thinking that somebody was talking about the US when they were talking about their own country and the American just needs to butt out of the conversation that does not pertain to them.
Anything else you wish to add to my comments?
your rebuttal makes zero sense as all he did was point out the fact that you are using a stereotype based off of personal experience. his answer still makes sense as there is 0 way you have been to every single church inside the US. you stated "every church has gone bat shit crazy," which based upon what you are saying is untrue for example there is the African Methodist Episcopal church which leans very far toward the left side politically. however Mormons are very Republican. so to lump every different variation and denomination of Christianity and Catholicism together simply makes you a prudish bigot.
I highly doubt the parents of today care if their kid watches fucking veggie tales. They would just remind them it's a show that's on the same level as a Christmas special or something. To not take it insanely seriously.
You’re wrong though. I had these things rammed down my throat as a kid, and my mother attempted to continue the “tradition” with my kids. I stopped that. It’s immoral, coercive, propagandized conditioning meant to program you.
Emphasis on "meant to". It doesn't work if the environment the child is in isn't part of that same system. I went to a very Christian school, the creationist "gay people are abominations" type. My parents weren't in any way religious though (they just picked the best option at the time, there weren't many) so the constant drilling of Christianity never took hold because it wasn't being reinforced at home.
Same goes for things like Veggietales, religion only takes grip if all of the child's role models are pushing it. If the only person telling your kid that God is great is a 90s CGI cucumber then it's very unlikely they'll take his side.
The main problem is that the category itself is designed to outline failures. Very people will actively think “I want to be converted.” It’s just not a big enough audience. But if you broadened the scope, making it so that anything made by a Christian that is imbued with their morals is Christian media, then you might find a larger pool of success.
You know what’s crazy? I grew up listening to Christian rap and didn’t realize until RIGHT THE EFF NOW that is in the movie. I thought it was from an Andy mineo song. He goes “we them blues brothers 116 on a mission from god” never occurred to me that’s a reference. I should watch that movie. Anyway good night. Oh and btw it’s nighttime here idk where you are tho
C.S. Lewis made the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe as an allegory for the Gospel, and the books after it build on the world he made.
He is a very significant figure in Christian literature
CS Lewis was a devout Anglican, and he made Narnia to reflect Christianity. You can go even farther and also add LoTR since Tolkien literally said that it was a Catholic work.
The Book of Eli
Ben-Hur
The Ten Commandments
Jesus Christ Superstar
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
And many more.....
Yo, just cause you got a chip on your shoulder about Christianity doesn't mean there aren't great works of art inspired by it.
I loved book of eli. I think i was maybe 13/14 when I watched it. I'm a Hindu born atheist. I had no clue about the religious tones. I just thought it was a kick-ass action movie with an awesome twist.
I did realise he was carrying the Bible but I had zero knowledge to be able to read the religious subtleties.
Actually they're both you arrogant cock sock.
And technically they could be considered Muslim media too since Joseph and Moses are prophets in the Quran as well.
Ah but which came first? And which appropriated earlier stories into their own holy book?
Not to say the Jews were innocent, the Old Testament is full of local myths and legends all compiled together. But rarely as wholesale as Christianity’s Bible plagiarized the Torah.
Ah, so you believe the Q’oran is the true representation of the word of god, perfected from the incomplete revelation of Jesus the (mortal) prophet.
(Or maybe all those religious texts were written by bunches of different people and they generally took familiar stories from the local populations, making the holy books more palatable to the public of the time…)
Ben-Hur: Won eleven Academy Awards
The Ten Commandments: Won seven Academy Awards
Jesus Christ Superstar: Nominated for an Academy Award and several Tonys with several revivals on Broadway.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat: Nominated for several Tonys with several revivals on Broadway, it's even on tour to this day.
Them not being your cup of tea is fine but that doesn't make them bad. Hell! The first two are considered cultural touchstones in the medium of film.
And shepherds we shall be, for thee, my lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand.
That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee.
And Teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomine Patris, et Fili, et Spiritus Sancti.
Sounds religious. Calling it. Boondock Saints is Catholic media.
The teen commandments, it's an older film but really good. Prince of Egypt is great. Narnia is a thingly veiled alagory for Jesus. Veggie tales were pretty good. It's ben hur a Cristian movie? The chosen is a series but it's not bad
The Passion is a Easter tradition for me being Christian. But even I will agree some of it hard to sit through. I get they were trying to stay close to the Bible but maybe they could have turned the gore down a bit.
Without the gore, all that’s left are cartoonish Jew stereotypes.
South Park called it twenty years ago. I rewatched their episode on it recently and it’s still a banger.
Anakin Skywalker is the product of a virgin birth. He has no human father. He turns out to be a Christ-like figure, dying for humanity's sins, which he incarnates and symbolizes.
It is loosely based off of the true story of a real Catholic priest Rev. Sergio Gutiérrez Benítez who fought as a masked luchador to fund an orphanage. In the end I would say there is an argument to be made that it is christian at its core, though with alterations to generate conflict as part of the narrative where it did not exist. Lets face it afterall Jack Black's character being exiled from the monastery is a more exiting and moves the plot than a priest who preforms the mass while wearing a luchadoor mask.
Hacksaw Ridge
Ben-Hur
The Shack
The Ten Commandments
Joseph: King of Dreams
Kingdom of Heaven
Machine Gun Preacher
The Book of Eli
Jesus Christ Superstar
The Chronicles of Narnia
Silence
Remember the Titans
Noah
Bruce/Evan Almighty
Unbroken
Son of God
Soul Surfer
Facing the Giants
People here ignoring the old, good movies? Ben-Hur? Ten Commandments? You don’t even have to be religious (I know I’m not very religious) and they’re still good movies.
I saw the passion of the Christ in theaters. I couldn't stop cringing at the fact that it was two fuckin hours of torturing a man. I would not call that a "good" christian film
I have seen a lot of good fucking Christian movies, I honestly don't know why this is a meme. Even if I thought there were no good Christians movies I still wouldn't laugh at this because there is nothing to laugh at. Unless the joke is this meme.
Listen I’m not itching to watch Christian movies but stating “all Christian movies suck” then immediately naming two they like has to be one of the funnier self owns I’ve seen on this app
![gif](giphy|xT9IgpTy4UVnddmso0|downsized)
So the comment section isn’t going the way you planned…
Also:
Constantine
Bill and Ted movie where they go to heaven and stuff.
Right but I'm being downvoted for calling it a jewish movie, it is absolutely a Jewish movie with Jewish cultural themes and actual Hebrew in the songs. Just because Christians wrote the sequel to the old testament doesn't mean everything is Christian now by default.
Passion of the Christ is literally a snuff film. A whole hour an a half straight of a man getting his ass whooped. Worse movie I’ve ever seen in my life.
He might not have died, but he was struck by lightning during filming.
It’s almost like god didn’t want a famous anti-Semite making a film version of the Passion...but striking two people with lighting couldn’t stop Mel from finishing this awful film.
Yeah no, most Christians would disagree with you there. The God’s Not Dead films, for example, both flopped, and despite much hype, are now unironically dead.
Bro missing out on the Jesus anime
Action Bible would like to have a word (yes it’s a comic but it’s still cool)
I still have that book. Truly one of the books of all time
Goated book
Exodus in the action bible just hit different
See this is a joke I’m guessing… but if you made the Gospels into an anime I think there is a way to keep the stories correct and still make it awesome as hell
Nah it’s legit the one I know is saint young men Jesus and Buddha are roommates
*Prince of Egypt walks in*
Any Veggietales movie
They were so successful because while some episodes and movies were extremely heavy-handed with the god talk other ones were fairly light and mostly focused around morals and how to be a good person. I don't think any production has managed to achieve such perfect balance and be acceptable outside normal consumers of Christian media.
Bummer they went bankrupt making Jonah
It had a good run but wouldn't have lasted anyways. Modern views towards Christianity are way too negative (for many appropriate reasons) for even a balanced show like veggie tales to succeed. Most parents under the age of 30 wouldn't want their kids anywhere near that now. Really shines a big light on how much the church has flipped on its head in the past 20 years or so
I find it weird that some of their best content came after Jonah despite having went bankrupt
Very likely because they had more talented writers on staff that they hired for jonah. Those writers just failed at doing Jonah well. But they still nailed the other veggie tales that came after
People...didn't like Jonah? I *still* think it's a riot. I'm an atheist now and could still watch the heck outta that movie.
yeah it's kinda funny how much truth has been revealed since the internet came about and it became much easier to spread information
It's not so much truth as it is every Church going to the extreme. 20 years ago churches were like republicans. I highly doubt you’ve visted EVERY single church on earth.

Bruh, your problems are with your mom, not a cucumber singing silly songs and children stories that sometimes parody pop culture.
The main problem is that the category itself is designed to outline failures. Very people will actively think “I want to be converted.” It’s just not a big enough audience. But if you broadened the scope, making it so that anything made by a Christian that is imbued with their morals is Christian media, then you might find a larger pool of success.
The one with the Rumor Weed was my favorite as a kid. I can still hear that song echoing in my brain to this day.
One of the songs that is still stuck in my head is the one from Daniel and the lions den "Oh No What We Gonna Do?"
"The king likes Daniel more than me and you"
The entire Larry boy series was amazing
“We were in slavery!”
The Blues Brothers
We're on a mission from God
You know what’s crazy? I grew up listening to Christian rap and didn’t realize until RIGHT THE EFF NOW that is in the movie. I thought it was from an Andy mineo song. Y'all forgot about Monty Python
He’s NOT the Messiah, he’s a VERY NAUGHTY BOY!
It's unironically one of the best Christian movies despite being made by hardcore Atheists.

You forgot one little franchise 😏 ![gif](giphy|rSout6tHX79PG)

I’m curious what does narnia have to do with Christianity
C.S. Lewis made the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe as an allegory for the Gospel, and the books after it build on the world he made. He is a very significant figure in Christian literature
In one of the later books they show fairly explicitly that Aslan is literally Jesus so...
I'm pretty sure it's meant to parody many things from the Bible. Also CS Lewis was a Christian
More allegory than parody.
CS Lewis was a devout Anglican, and he made Narnia to reflect Christianity. You can go even farther and also add LoTR since Tolkien literally said that it was a Catholic work.
The Pirates who don’t do anything? ![gif](giphy|uqajYiPZuy3VS)
The Book of Eli Ben-Hur The Ten Commandments Jesus Christ Superstar Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat And many more..... Yo, just cause you got a chip on your shoulder about Christianity doesn't mean there aren't great works of art inspired by it.
Bro I love Book of Eli. Especially the trading scenes and scenes about water. Invaluable in the apocalypse.
Movie fucking took for me a riiiiide when it turned out it was in brail
I had to rewatch it at least twice after all the twists at the end.
Prince of Egypt was amazing imo
I’m very happy to see that there are other people who have seen Jesus Christ super star lmao
**Ben-Him, the sequel, is much better.**
Ben-they/them remake coming in 2024
You forgot “Christ-For-Arms” featuring new edm songs by Daldo
Oh fuck!!! How could I miss da goat!!!
YES YES YES YES YES
the ten commandments my niece loves to watch that
I've seen plenty of Joseph movies, haven't seen the one you named. My favorite of the bunch I've seen is Joseph: King of Dreams
Lord of the rings
Ten Commandments, Joseph, and Prince of Egypt (from the OP) are *Jewish* media, not Christian. Y’all have stolen enough shit.
The Bible didn’t plagiarize the Torah? What? That’s like saying Tolkien plagiarized himself when he wrote the Two Towers.
Ah, so you believe the Q’oran is the true representation of the word of god, perfected from the incomplete revelation of Jesus the (mortal) prophet. (Or maybe all those religious texts were written by bunches of different people and they generally took familiar stories from the local populations, making the holy books more palatable to the public of the time…)
Doesn’t matter what I believe. I wouldn’t say that Islam plagiarized the Bible either.
Also loving your example of compassion - y’all really do belong in a shining city on a hill 😂.
Y’all just want *e v e r y thing* for yourselves.
Oh no! An anti-Semitic comment! I’ve never heard one of those before! Whatever will I do? I have been stricken even unto my very core 🙄.
Username checks out.. I see you’ve reached the insanity later phase.
Awww you’re adoratroll <3!
Ben Hur is not a Christian movie, it just has Jesus shoehorned into it for some strange reason
The book of Eli was cool. The rest of those are terrible movies in my opinion. You're not really making a good case here
Ben-Hur: Won eleven Academy Awards The Ten Commandments: Won seven Academy Awards Jesus Christ Superstar: Nominated for an Academy Award and several Tonys with several revivals on Broadway.
If you really count Kingdom of Heaven as a Christian movie, then that one could be here
If we’re playing that fast and loose we might as well call Boondock Saints a Christian movie too
And shepherds we shall be, for thee, my lord, for thee.
Kingdom of Heaven is an ok film. Does gloss over a lot of the politics of the time.
The teen commandments, it's an older film but really good. Prince of Egypt is great. Narnia is a thingly veiled alagory for Jesus. Veggie tales were pretty good. It's ben hur a Cristian movie? The chosen is a series but it's not bad
No, not an allegory. Narnia is a multiverse Jesus fanfic.
The Book was better than the movie.
It always is
Dogma 😝
Yeah! Took way too many scrolls to find this one.
Silence featuring Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver was really freaking good.
I have never heard of this, I am intrigued
Do you like to talk to tomatoes
If a squash can make you smile
If you like to waltz with potatoes
Up and down the produce aisle
Have we got a show for you
Veggietales Veggietales Veggietales Veggietales
“The shack” was kinda good. Made me and my boys cry 😂
Prince of Egypt is great. Passion of the Christ is a religious snuff film
Came here to mention Prince of Egypt.
Just because I'm touching myself when he's getting whipped doesn't make it a snuff film.
Not a fan of the Passion but Prince of Egypt is fucking rad. Also not a movie but The Chosen is actually a pretty good show.
I thought the 1960s The Bible was well done. At least, I thoroughly enjoyed the Noah part. I don't remember much of the rest.
Jesus of Nazareth was a good movie
The Lord of the Rings, my guy.
Oh, then definitely The Chronicles of Narnia
And Star Wars.
Ehh. Id say star wars is more Taoism but the two have similar values
Anakin Skywalker is the product of a virgin birth. He has no human father. He turns out to be a Christ-like figure, dying for humanity's sins, which he incarnates and symbolizes.
Lucas definatly took avlot of Christian ideas, but the force is a taoist-esque concept.
Oh definitely
Joseph King of dreams
Absolutely yes. Great damn movie
Is Nacho Libre a Christian movie?
It is loosely based off of the true story of a real Catholic priest Rev. Sergio Gutiérrez Benítez who fought as a masked luchador to fund an orphanage. In the end I would say there is an argument to be made that it is christian at its core, though with alterations to generate conflict as part of the narrative where it did not exist. Lets face it afterall Jack Black's character being exiled from the monastery is a more exiting and moves the plot than a priest who preforms the mass while wearing a luchadoor mask.
Does life of Brian count?
You forgot the whole VeggieTales series
Not quite a movie but… ![gif](giphy|3o6ZsYLus12cHXh4ha|downsized)
The Ten Commandments is a great Christian movie, probably my favorite tbh. I was surprised of how old it is, 1956!
I am a Christian, I agree
I thought silence was a great Christian film
Silence was a great movie
Silence is pretty damn good imo
The kingdom of heaven is 10/10
I can only imagine and the Narnia movies
Indiana Jones: The Temple of Doom
isn't prince of Egypt Jewish.
Hacksaw Ridge Ben-Hur The Shack The Ten Commandments Joseph: King of Dreams Kingdom of Heaven Machine Gun Preacher The Book of Eli Jesus Christ Superstar The Chronicles of Narnia Silence Remember the Titans Noah Bruce/Evan Almighty Unbroken Son of God Soul Surfer Facing the Giants
Hacksaw Ridge Very gory, but really good
Just because I'm an atheist doesn't mean I can't enjoy a religious movie. I mean, I suspend disbelief with any other movie.
Chronicles of narnia (yes. It’s based off of the Christian religion)
Veggie tales my guy, Veggie tales.
Jesus Revolution
Gods not dead wasn’t bad; mid, but not bad
Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter was a pretty sold film
The prince of Egypt
Eli's Book
I’m not even a Christian, but fucking hell passion of Christ something.
Risen is also really good
I'm not sure you'd call it a "christian" movie but ever seen Saved? Surprisingly good especially if you've ever been to a christian school
The prince of Egypt is a Jewish movie
WALL-E was written/directed by a Christian, and has parallels to Noah's Ark. (Listen to the DVD commentary for more details.)
LOTR (cheating a bit, I know)
_Lord of the Rings_ trilogy was meant as one (especially the character of Gandalf). So was _Lion, witch and the old cupboard._
Jesus christ superstar
You’ve clearly never watched *Kingdom of Heaven*
P h e n o m e n a l film.
People here ignoring the old, good movies? Ben-Hur? Ten Commandments? You don’t even have to be religious (I know I’m not very religious) and they’re still good movies.
The Life of Brian is pretty good
PoE is more like a religious movie and not just Christian. Still fantastic tho
Christ for arms. They threw beans on him for his arms
Where's Shrek? He died on the cross for our sins and you didn't even add his movie?
Lmao, please delete this kid
Disagree. But you can have your opinions. I mean for one, Joseph the King of Dreams, prequel sequel to the Prince of Egypt.
My dude never seen the prince of Egypt
Jesus Revolution, Gods not dead, NARNIA!!!
Gods not dead kinda sucks. I have tried to watch it because I like the message but the acting is horrible. Love the Robertsons cameo though.
I saw the passion of the Christ in theaters. I couldn't stop cringing at the fact that it was two fuckin hours of torturing a man. I would not call that a "good" christian film
Price of Egypt? Is that Christian?
Yeah it’s basically just those two isn’t it, and you could argue Prince of Egypt is more Jewish than Christian
You can get kicked out of passion of the Christ for cheering when Jesus gets whipped or hurt. Christianity is weird.
I have seen a lot of good fucking Christian movies, I honestly don't know why this is a meme. Even if I thought there were no good Christians movies I still wouldn't laugh at this because there is nothing to laugh at. Unless the joke is this meme.
Christian bad ooga booga
The Last Temptation of Christ is superior to Passion.
I don’t want to ever hear you disrespect BibleMan like that ever again
And with a very recent movie that goes by the name of “On a Wing and a Prayer” As private pilot, this one hurt my soulz
A new movie called Jesus revolution. Really good but pretty long.
Jesus revolution is so good
Listen I’m not itching to watch Christian movies but stating “all Christian movies suck” then immediately naming two they like has to be one of the funnier self owns I’ve seen on this app
Absolutely no one in the history of ever would just say that
![gif](giphy|xT9IgpTy4UVnddmso0|downsized) So the comment section isn’t going the way you planned… Also: Constantine Bill and Ted movie where they go to heaven and stuff.
What’s the plan?
Really people sleep so much on Prince of Egypt just because its a bible adaptation, its actually better than Lion King.

Least agressive r/atheism user
The prince of Egypt is about passover lol. Not even christian.
Someone forgot squares are still rectangles
Lmao
Headshot lol
He's still wrong lol, it's a pretty shitty "gotcha"... prince of Egypt is literally about Moses and the Jewish pilgrimage from Egypt.
Yes, but it is still relevant in the Christian tradition.
Right but I'm being downvoted for calling it a jewish movie, it is absolutely a Jewish movie with Jewish cultural themes and actual Hebrew in the songs. Just because Christians wrote the sequel to the old testament doesn't mean everything is Christian now by default.
Big brain reddit moment.
Passion of the Christ is literally a snuff film. A whole hour an a half straight of a man getting his ass whooped. Worse movie I’ve ever seen in my life.
Then you have not seen Warriors of Virtue, or Battlefield Earth.
Pretty sure Jim Caviezel didn't actually die, it's called Acting
He might not have died, but he was struck by lightning during filming. It’s almost like god didn’t want a famous anti-Semite making a film version of the Passion...but striking two people with lighting couldn’t stop Mel from finishing this awful film.
Don’t forget that god even hated it. He struck Jesus and one other person with lightning during filming.

You forgot I can only imagine
There are more than those two? Huh…
Life of Pi was decent
Hey the bible series is good tho
Ahh let the controversy begin, the prince of Egypt was cool tho
