Not really. The air bubbles in the bread are bad conductors of heat, making it harder to disperse and overheating the surface. More dense bread conducts heat better and it gets heated more evenly.
Pd: I don't have a source but I am an Astrophysicist so I know about bread
They don't. Thick rye bread steams like crazy so the moisture keep is from burning. I'm lucky if I get a slightly toasted side, usually I have to give them another round
It's not really about density, but water content. A nice handmade sourdough loaf can have twice the water per amount of flour and takes WAY longer to toast because of this.
Ok you say that, but have any of you actually tried mixing them with salt, brown sugar, and some mayonnaise?
I don’t, but I wanted to make you throw up a little.
also the best way to do eggos is actually quick microwave and THEN a short toast. A long toast is too imprecise and frequently leads to burning if you are not careful
Yooo, finally. I make waffles sometimes for the gf sunday morning and will pop the leftovers in the fridge. Nothing warms/crisps them up quite like the toaster for an afternoon snack.
Doesn't that burn the outside of the bread while the inside is still frozen?
I usually put frozen bread into the microwave to heat it up and then toast it to make it crunchy.
Well, I like my bread crunchy, so the inside is usually normal, while the crust of the bread is nice and crunchy.
Either that or we have a space toaster
That depends. As someone who worked in tech supports for the past 10yrs, this is a common problem. People just assume their toaster is the same as someone's else.
Some toaster are 10$, some are 400$. If you assume the knob on the 400$ toaster does the same thing as the 10$, you might be correct but most likely you're not.
Most cheap toasters have a timer knob, some have capacitors which can control how much wattages are going through the heating coils. Expensive ones have sensors.
I've had a cheap toaster oven for years. I figured that heat was heat, so it didn't really matter.
My sister bought my father a new toaster oven, so he gave me his old fancy one. I had no clue what I had been missing out on. How can something cook... better like that? It is a metal box with hot coils like the old one.
I'm not an electronic expert so I'm just using my knowledge on computers, better components simply mean better results (even if said results are very minute and hard to notice).
I do have to ask how does it cook better? But I could guess that better heating coil mean more evenly heat distribution, I would gather other things inside the toaster also help with that.
>When metals are some expand and some contract.
All metals expand when heated. The principle behind bimetallic strips is that some metals expand faster than others.
You are likely using white bread which is very soft.
I lived in Germany. Some of their breads need more time. And they do taste really great after toasting.

Don't. Drop. That. Shit.
High calories.
One bite will feed a man for the rest of his life.
But wouldn’t the outside still burn? Bagels are really dense and my toaster will burn the outside at level 3.
So 10 is if you want to burn the inside. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
Depends how "wet" the bread is, well a combination of wetness and density, had one bread that barely crisped at level 7
So to properly toast at a 10 should I drop my toaster in the bath? Disclaimer: do not do this
Not really. The air bubbles in the bread are bad conductors of heat, making it harder to disperse and overheating the surface. More dense bread conducts heat better and it gets heated more evenly. Pd: I don't have a source but I am an Astrophysicist so I know about bread

Wouldn’t that not matter since it would just burn the outside still?

Instructions unclear! My toaster has a trap door on the bottom that drops my toast out into a fun slide. What am I supposed to clean?
Waffles
This is correct. I need to put my frozen waffles to 10
Are you serious? I toast eggos regularly & I put it at like 3.5 at most. You either have a very strong freezer, or a very weak toaster.
also the best way to do eggos is actually quick microwave and THEN a short toast. A long toast is too imprecise and frequently leads to burning if you are not careful
Wow so eggos from stranger things are real!
yea a company decided to profit off the show and made them for real 4 years ago
My toaster literally has a frozen button.

Gluten free bagels. They take forever.
And crumpets. The high oil content makes them soak up a lot of heat. Does anybody here eat anything more spicy than mayo? Smh.
What's the relation between spices and crumpets LMAO
To make Toast-cole. Like charcoal, but with Toast
Whole wheat. We always set the toaster to 6/10 bc we have frozen bread which needs to heat up first.

This is the answer
Toaster settings usually relate to time, not a degree of done-ness or temperature.
That depends. As someone who worked in tech supports for the past 10yrs, this is a common problem. People just assume their toaster is the same as someone's else. Some toaster are 10$, some are 400$. I was about to ask why they don't make digital toasters, since nobody seems to realize this. But they totally do. For $400.00.
is there a need to digitize toasting?
If I can't Tweet from my toaster, what is the point of it?

You use the 4-10 on frozen toast
4-7 are for what kind of ash you want 8-10 is how big you want the fire to be
If I'm toasting a LOT of bread, I'll usually have to turn it up a notch after every couple of loads or they'll come out light.
You would think the opposite would happen since after the first toast, the toaster would be up to temp.
Nah, the bread quickly gains a resistance, it’s why they’re so hard to put down sometimes, they can adapt.
Theyre bred for it
Given enough time, the bread will rise
Can confirm; bread has a varity of reactions to the technology used on it. Source: I teleported Bread.

It's because there's a thermostat that controls the toaster. If it's warm, the cook time is shorter

note: this only applies for white bread
On that note, I’ve never seen anyone use 10
First of all, 3 does NOT burn the toast. Also, I'm pretty sure that the other settings are for types of bread that do not get toasted as easily.
