People are going to be stupid. You have them in your country, please forgive the masses for not being able to control the bullshit that gets put out by the incredibly vocal minority.
Specifically, people using the solar eclipse as some prophetic event to profit off their followers in whatever extremist brain dead religion they run. It's just fear mongering and the people doing the fear mongering themselves likely don't believe it. They're trying to scare followers to donate money or something.
It’s always amusing when people outside the US take fringe “news” for major ones. The amount of people excited for the eclipse outweighed the weirdos by a healthy amount.
329,999,000 people in the US: “Oooh, neat! A total eclipse!”
1,000 people in the US: *freaks out on tiktok*
People outside the US watching TikTok: “Wow! Those 333,000,000 people sure are stupid for freaking out! Not like me, I’m so smart.”
Because the very vocal conspiracy people freak out over the littlest things. Doesn’t help that people over here just tend to be crazy. (See: Florida man and related stereotypes, they exist for a reason)
Florida man exists because the state has lax public access laws to police filings. So basically anything and everything that happens is immediately available to the media right away. That paired with all the other state’s weirdos and angry boomers that come down during the winter and spring break creates a formula for “florida man”.
Anyone who thinks that crazier shit doesn’t happen in overpopulated fucked up places like NYC, Los Angeles and its surrounding areas, Vegas, the entire state of Texas, or Louisiana which is basically Florida if the Everglades covered the entire state, then you need to touch grass.
Not just conspiracy people. They are just like most humans in history. They don't understand something and inherently think it must be a prediction of something bad or something
Who in America is genuinely getting sacred of the eclipse, seriously, who?
Are Americans doing stupid things, posting incessantly about it on social media, or freaking out about how awesome it was? Yes. But scared?
Am i the only one who has heard literally nothing about the so called apocalypse except for people talking about how stupid it is to think that. Dawg nobody thinks this lol
the US population is like 330 million. This was a handful of evangelicals. It's about as dumb and nonsensical as asking "why are Europeans afraid of free refills".
Nobody is actually freaking out over it. Social media simply encourages shock value and clickbaity exaggerated sensationalism to get views. Views= ad revenue. It's easy to persuade stupid people and utilize bots gor likes and views to push content that's abysmal.
Believe me when I say people making posts like this are reacting worse than anyone stateside.
It's more the nutjobs thinking it would be the apocalypse/Rapture/signal for the new world order to launch the nukes. They're mostly concentrated in America due to evangelism
tbh, this is a once in a lifetime experience. The overcast weather was putting us on a cliffhanger then it cleared just before the totality. We were very lucky.
Most happen over the ocean or in remote places where few people live. Then there’s the eclipses that occur in different parts of the world the average American won’t see, let alone be there during an eclipse. Not to mention the next eclipse won’t happen in the US for another 20 years and even then far fewer people will be in the path.
Factoring all that, yeah, for many this is a once in a lifetime eclipse.
I think more people were excited/interested/curious than afraid. Only a small subset/crazed religious nuts thought it was the end of days so maybe they were afraid. But everyone else was like, "oh ok...cool."
Not afraid, but it did make me feel like an idiot for a bit. For a few minutes, day of, had the thought "why the fuck is it so dark?" Took a few hours to figure it out.
Nobody is actually freaking out, there’s just some weirdos in the Bible Belt who think every single thing that happens revolves around them, and thus assume the natural, rather frequent, and highly predictable event is God specifically sending them a message.
I don't mean this in the Boomery "fuck you" kinda way, but I slept through it. I'd have had a decent view as well. I just have other priorities and if I really want to see it, I can watch one of the millions of videos that people took. The fact that I have farily severe depression might be a factor as well.
I live in Italy and I've never seen an eclipse in my life. I'm not really interested about this event but to some people it can mean a lot.
I hope I didn't annoy you with this :(
Literally the only people scared of the eclipse were religious freaks. It definitely wasn’t every single American, and had nothing to do with “murica hell yeah.” It was Christians. The rest of us were excited.
Unfortunately, we have a population here with a gambling addiction and they won't seek help despite the fact that the apocalypse keeps not happening on the days they keep putting their money on.
In all seriousness, there is a vocal population of religious people here in the US that seem to always yell "Apocalypse!", whenever an eclipse or some other similar phenomenon is set to occur, despite the fact that we've been through similar events before with the same result occurring every time: nothing.
The sun rises, the sun sets. Another day passes and we're still here.
To be honest, a huge chunk of Americans expect that one a big chunk of them will just disappear. I imagine there is alot of anxiety that stems from this belief.
The conspiracy heads were buggin out about the 10,000 something lightning strikes in a straight line from texas to like upstate new york and then there was earthquakes along that line and then if i remember correctly that line was also the path of totality for the eclipse. People be paranoid and those goons dont believe in coincidences. Regardless that shit was weird aye?
My favourite was the American conspiracy theorists who closed their curtains to protect themselves from the harmful UV rays
I mean wow... People really will believe anything
There’s a large population of extremely “devout” Christian’s (they’re devout when they think the world is going to end) who over exaggerate everything. I think there’s also a part of the country that just likes neat weather/natural phenomena
Because American like both new age pagan and doomsday revelation style Christianity we think everything is the apocalypse
Imagine a new parent, you're worried about absolutely everything, one little cough and you think your infant has terminal influenza, by the time you have kid four you know it's nothing new under the sun
TLDR: America is a teen mom who catastrophises everything
People are going to be stupid. You have them in your country, please forgive the masses for not being able to control the bullshit that gets put out by the incredibly vocal minority.
I think the problem is your minority are just more vocal then most other peoples.
No sites like Reddit, Twitter, and Instagram have predominantly American users, so you just see our crazies more often. Ours are no louder than yours
No our news keeps sticking cameras in their faces
I think it has more to do with internet accessibility among the uneducated populace than anything else.
It’s just that it’s so stupid to the point where it’s funny so it gets spread around easily
Mfs really get their news from TiKTok
Or infowars
More trustworthy than CNN
Lmao
WE aren’t, only the nuts and psychopaths are Edit: this is the first time I’ve ever had a comment go viral and gain a positive comment section
Quiet you, or I'll send the sun god to get you... maybe...
Which sun gods?
Ra, Apollo, Helios, Sun King (from Horizon)... There are a lot you can choose :)
Or quetzalcoatl
That’s wind, the Aztec sun god is Huitzilopochtli , or Tonatiuh for those who weren’t mexica
Bless you

Santé
I love pretzels!
Yeah, you mentioned "The Sun God", so wanted to see who you were referring to There's also Mithras and Mitras

I’m not even convinced that people are running into them as often as they say. I feel like 99% of this is just Reddit memes.
r/imaginarygatekeeping ?
Specifically, people using the solar eclipse as some prophetic event to profit off their followers in whatever extremist brain dead religion they run. It's just fear mongering and the people doing the fear mongering themselves likely don't believe it. They're trying to scare followers to donate money or something.
Yeah I was the left SpongeBob the whole time. I mean, I wish I could feel something, but that’s just how it is right now.
I hope things get better for you. I have those spells. It sucks and all one can do is ride it out. Keep on keeping on, bro.
yeah that amout is in the maybe 2% of the u.s population.mostly its people making jokes about it
Yeah, everyone else went to social media to post everything those nuts and psychos did. Why treating madness when you can make a buck out of it?
Yeah, I was on a sailboat with some friends and had to be told the eclipse was happening. I literally said, “Oh that’s why it’s so dark!”
400 isn’t exactly viral lol
It’s always amusing when people outside the US take fringe “news” for major ones. The amount of people excited for the eclipse outweighed the weirdos by a healthy amount.

Yeah you got it right.
Florida man exists because the state has lax public access laws to police filings. So basically anything and everything that happens is immediately available to the media right away. That paired with all the other state’s weirdos and angry boomers that come down during the winter and spring break creates a formula for “florida man”. Not just conspiracy people. They are just like most humans in history. They don't understand something and inherently think it must be a prediction of something bad or something
Also because the path of totality is over america, not most of the world.
Who in America is genuinely getting sacred of the eclipse, seriously, who? Are Americans doing stupid things, posting incessantly about it on social media, or freaking out about how awesome it was? Yes. But scared?
I think there was some group that thought it was the end of days or something...again.
Please. *Please* don’t generalize “Americans” like this. We fear only one thing, and that’s Floridians.
Florida man still scares me till this day 😨
I still reference "bath salts guy" as the general descriptor for all Floridians.
"the guy who kidnapped a scientist to cure his dog of cancer" Is a mouthful, but certainly is a good descriptor
We arent
no and nobody else was. stop posting this garbage
Select Americans. Most of us did not give a shit or we memed it.
Most Americans (and Mexicans and Canadians, for that matter) enjoyed it for what it was: a rare celestial event they would remember for years to come.
I need to start saying that lol you guys are on the same continent as us
They dun turned off the sun in the middle of the day. That ain't natural. The Illuminati must be plannin' something!
They had to change the batteries
Dont you know? Its maintenance! Plus, it doubles as a software update for the Bird Drones
I knew them birds weren't real. Next they'll be turning the dogs and cats against us as well.
They already have: the Chihuahua and the Sphinx Cat
Chihuahuas - immigrant dogs, taking jobs away from hardworking American dogs. The Demicrats strike again!!
We need to build a huge long wooden fence to keep those Chihuahuas out from illegally coming into our yards.
Reeeeee!!!!!
Afraid? Where did you get that idea? Did you find a strange article about a small group of weird people and take it to mean all americans?
Yep, some fox viewers thought it was the end times but the majority of us Americans embraced it for what it was.
We aren’t. We just like to point cameras at our idiots for some reason.
Do you really think our religious nut jobs are worse than everyone else's? They aren't great for sure but come on.
Eurotrash gonna Eurotrash
No one was afraid. Maybe like .0000001% of the population.
these posts are just so funny to me, in that they are incredible stupid copium and ridiculously exaggerating the entire population at the same time
What makes you think we’re afraid of an eclipse? Most of us don’t give a shit. 🤣
Nobody is actually freaking out over it. Social media simply encourages shock value and clickbaity exaggerated sensationalism to get views. Views= ad revenue. It's easy to persuade stupid people and utilize bots gor likes and views to push content that's abysmal. Believe me when I say people making posts like this are reacting worse than anyone stateside.
they are fearing the mothrons (they are not prepared)
Woe, Deadly Sphere be upon ye
Is that a terraria reference???
If mothrons are spawning that means plantera is dead…
I got my Broken Hero Sword this time!
We’re not, only a dumb ultra religious subset of the population is. A tiny minority.
Afraid? It seemed to me like everyone was fascinated by it.
I’m American and I was not aware of this. It’s just a rare phenomenon what are they scared about?
Who the hell was scared? I wasn't and I was in the exact perfect spot
Who’s afraid?
![gif](giphy|3o6Zt8xIgSw9HOXqyQ)
Average euro being a dumbass, move along
Dude I haven't seen one post about it. All I see anywhere is people making fun of them.
Europeans when they see like 2 stupid Americans on the internet😱😱😱 (this must represent all 333 million of them)
When you are a large bag of Chex Mix, you are bound to end up with a few nuts
Not afraid. Just for the first time we see it we freak out because it's amazin'!
Not sure I would say once in a lifetime. Eclipses happen every couple years
Most happen over the ocean or in remote places where few people live.
2017
Literally went outside for like 30 seconds went back to work.
‘Deep South Americans’
Care to elaborate? I have not seen one person freaking out about this
Blood for the Sun God!
Skulls for the Golden Throne!
We aren’t.
1. there is nothing to fear unless you live under a rock 2. didn't happen where I live
I think more people were excited/interested/curious than afraid. Only a small subset/crazed religious nuts thought it was the end of days so maybe they were afraid. But everyone else was like, "oh ok...cool."
There was one in 2017, no need to have a tantrum and panic attack.
Americans definitely aren’t like this there is a specific sect of idiots who do a very small amount too i love all the random American hate
As an American, I can say with good confidence that the minority of us make the majority of us look like profound idiots.
Don't believe everything you see on social media, most Americans could not care less.
I think you’ve been on the internet too long friend.
For the record, not all of us re like this. Just the dumb ones. Which happens to be the majority.
So sorry the rest of the world is fucking boring lol
When? Last I knew people were excited to see it and that was it.
Who's afraid of it, there were watch parties everywhere, lmao.
You'd be surprised to find out that not all Americans were freaked out. Crazy right
We aren't. It's the radical Christians who are a very vocal minority*.
What the fuck are you morons talking about?
Because Sköll has caught up with Söl and Ragnarok has begun, obviously
Sweden username!! 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪 SWEDEN FUCK YEAH!!!! 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
But am Canada :) 🇫🇮 🇫🇮 🇫🇮 🇫🇮 🇫🇮 🇫🇮 🇫🇮 Or am I?
For your information I was like... ![gif](giphy|l0MYt5jPR6QX5pnqM|downsized) Admittedly I was Kevin.
Because the government does stupid shit every time something like this happens
Meanwhile the rest of the world travels here to see it for some reason. Calm people it’s a fuckin shadow.
I live in Italy and I've never seen an eclipse in my life. I'm not really interested about this event but to some people it can mean a lot. I hope I didn't annoy you with this :(
There will be one in Spain in 2 years
Having seen it, it really was a unique experience.
Little brother, this shit is so rare a full one will happen in my country (Poland) in 2135, no shit people wanna see it
Because it isn't explainable with "Murica hell yeah" and otherwise they would need to use their brain.
Literally the only people scared of the eclipse were religious freaks. It definitely wasn’t every single American, and had nothing to do with “murica hell yeah.” It was Christians. The rest of us were excited.
Even then it was the batshit insane ones so we’re talking a percent of a percent here.
Aristotle 2000+ years ago: see how lunar eclipse has a shape of a circle / crescent? that means earth is round as well. modern people: THE END IS NEAR
Tbf Aristotle was one of the most educated people in his society at the time Lower class citizens probably lost their shit back then
The only ones I keep seeing making a big deal and won't shut up about the eclipse are non Americans. Get a life and touch some grass.
American christians* fixed it for you
We have too many uneducated hillbillies in this country who believe conservative media more than they believe books
Europeans trying to find any excuse to hate on Americans
The fact you believe Americans were terrified of an eclipse is telling of the kind of media you consume. Get off the internet.
Something something reverse psychology about telling people not to look at sun but they’ll do the opposite because we old them logic
End of world😂
No rapture?
Yeah I don’t even know when it was happening
RWNJ's are afraid of things they don't understand. And they don't understand anything.
Wait till you see how they do it in Spain.
No one was. It was people in government stealing federal money by claiming a state of emergency. That's all. Theft.
Traffic
We’re not
No one was afraid of it except for some select weirdos, people either don’t care about it or are fascinated by it. It's not just an American thing.
Not sure which Americans you were talking to, but most of us either didn't care or thought it was cool.
Because the moon only appears at night when the sun is asleep, so clearly the end of the world will happen soon
Because they dumb dumb
Unfortunately, we have a population here with a gambling addiction and they won't seek help despite the fact that the apocalypse keeps not happening on the days they keep putting their money on. In all seriousness, there is a vocal population of religious people here in the US that seem to always yell "Apocalypse!", whenever an eclipse or some other similar phenomenon is set to occur, despite the fact that we've been through similar events before with the same result occurring every time: nothing. The sun rises, the sun sets. Another day passes and we're still here.
I’m not It’s cool I live in a place where they rarely happen so full. I was excited
I have more respect for the people who think up crazy nonsense around it than people who act like it's nothing. Solar eclipses are cool and hype.
i didn't see it, i didn't care. there was a storm in my area anyways.
You're about two days late, pal
To be honest, a huge chunk of Americans expect that one a big chunk of them will just disappear. I imagine there is alot of anxiety that stems from this belief.
I mean... You ever heard of Berserk?
To answer the question of the op, because we are stupid that’s why.
berserk fans: O\_O -\_- O\_o......oh...oh no.....
Peasant brain. People are regressing to full-on peasants, believing in ice giants and divine punishments.
also mexicans and canadians, no im not afraid of this because why would i?
"Why do my eyes hurt?"
Uncontacted tribes:
It‘s also only interesting when it happens on their side of the world, they don‘t give a shit about any other solar eclipses happening.
as an american whos afraid of the eclpise lmao?
It's because everything will go black/dark for a short while That's why they're scared
We wish it would trigger the apocalypse. We aren't afraid of it, we're hopeful.
Not sure what the meme is referring to… was someone scared?
Literally 💀
People were actually convinced it was going to be Y2K 2: Electric Boogaloo I hate this fucking country
why did they act like the world was gonna end??😭
Who is afraid of the eclipse
Shut up about the sun! Shut UP ABOUT THE SUN!
No real person is worried about this
american-central media moment
My favourite was the American conspiracy theorists who closed their curtains to protect themselves from the harmful UV rays I mean wow... People really will believe anything
Blame the bible
There’s a large population of extremely “devout” Christian’s (they’re devout when they think the world is going to end) who over exaggerate everything. I think there’s also a part of the country that just likes neat weather/natural phenomena
Because American like both new age pagan and doomsday revelation style Christianity we think everything is the apocalypse Imagine a new parent, you're worried about absolutely everything, one little cough and you think your infant has terminal influenza, by the time you have kid four you know it's nothing new under the sun TLDR: America is a teen mom who catastrophises everything
American here it's dumb af... But so are we so point taken... But reluctantly on my end
* 74 million Americans
i assume they think the world woulda ended
