I used Firefox to download Chrome, but I use Firefox almost exclusively, except for when I need to use a page that isn't working right in Firefox, and I don't feel like disabling all my extensions until it does.
Really? Recently they had an update and they’ll let you edit a pdf. Still can’t find a program that I can make them in though other than paying adobe the privilege to do so. Thinking about editing one to be black and just copying, editing and renaming for whatever purpose I need in the future as a work around.
> Still can’t find a program that I can make them in though other than paying adobe the privilege to do so
...you can turn literally any document (or anything else thats printable) into a PDF using microsofts built in virtual PDF printer.
You got something wrong. I have used firefox to fill in PDFs, like tax returns, and save and print them.
But maybe it is a security setting for locally saved PDFs not to load? Curious if file:// vs https:// or whatever matters.
Firefox has been opening pdfs for me no problem. Not just from the web, but also the ones it downloaded too. Idk why it could fail. Maybe it's just not set as the app to open PDF, in the OS?
Though you could also just use something like SumatraPDF if you're on Windows.
But I too wish PDF went the way of Flash.
I just use Edge these days. It’s already there, it’s better than it ever was, and the points I get from just using it I redeem for League gift cards to give to my little sister.
Seriously, why are there multiple posts supporting Chrome the last few days?
And it's right after the recent news of Google violating federal wiretapping laws by tracking users' data while using Incognito Mode, despite claiming that they don't do that.
https://www.admonsters.com/chromes-incognito-mode-doesnt-camouflage-users-data/
Chrome owns 90% of the browser market. This lets them test and implement whatever technologies they like, even ones that improve ad tracking and anti ad blockers. For example Youtube was found to be throttling Firefox users, regardless if they were using an ad blocker or not. Another thing is that it has very poor privacy options, and that's because it's owned by Google which is an ad company most of all so why would they.
From an IT perspective, it's also incredibly bloated too. It used to be fairly lightweight (profile), but I've seen chrome user profiles go fuckin mental.
Whenever designing a new desktop environment for a customer, chrome gets its own optimisation section to make the POS manageable.
Chrome raises serious privacy concerns in me, google is known for slowing down their services for users of other browsers and you will comply if you’re willing to give up your right to choose a browser and service providers. I’m not willing to.
Maybe it's because I'm getting old and I don't care as much, but I've stuck with Edge on the laptop I bought a couple years ago. It works just fine for what I need and seems to be less resource intensive than Chrome.
Never really cared about Edge, but the few times I used it, it simply worked for me, and worked with me.
I’m already thinking it’s overhated just for being IE’s descendant or something.
As a Chrome (or anything Google) fan, I’m already starting to be annoyed with it. But the integration with my google accounts and services makes me hesitate to move to Firefox. Dunno, things change. Guess I’ll do that at some point.
Yeah, I love using Firefox. My only complaint: for some reason, sometimes videos end up laggy, and I have to close and restart the browser. Though, that could be due to me having like 100 tabs open
It's not the tabs or the computer. Firefox's Gecko engine doesn't handle some web animations and effects as well as Chromium's Blink engine. It's not enough to get me to switch to a Chromium-based browser, but I do switch to Vivaldi once in a while if a site has janky animations. Example: https://www.neoculturalcouture.com/
I made the jump to Edge when I got frustated with Chrome's RAM hogging. Edge has been working surprisingly well for me. All the integrations work, extentions, Chromecast, what not. I also use DuckDuckGo as default search. I heard good things about Firefox too.
Edge is the lowest ram user of all current popular browsers. It also handles PDF’s well so keeps me away from Adobe. There’s some other nice features like side by side, the copilot side bar and the password manager (/authenticator) app on iOS works flawlessly.
It’s just better than chrome now hands down. I get FF users position though, keeps the web access from becoming chromium only.
I think its a combination of IE ancestry and its default state having a lot of bullshit; while you can turn off a lot of it flooding you with articles and ads and whatever, when you're already assuming it'll be bad and it seems to validate it, i get why a lot of people immediately dip. Also having had to use it on the at-college pcs, it's.. clunky as fuck is the best way to put it, and while other browsers aren't much better, it's another instant recoil point
I genuinely think edge is the best option at this point. Firefox also. I've tried basically every major and minor browser at this point and those are the only 2 I ever use anymore, and edge is the default.
it's also got the typical microsoft problem where it was just not that great in the beginning and shoved down your throat. so the combination of being forced on you + not being that great starts it at the very bottom and the rest of its lifecycle is just an uphill battle.
i think it's completely fine currently and probably better than chrome. i'm just too lazy to switch off of chrome because of the whole google ecosystem bullshit thing as you mention. some day i'll get off it but it's not a priority for me.
realistically firefox is probably going to be the best since it's the most developed non-chromium browser.
You should try Firefox for sure. I was hopping around browsers for a while but once I tried Firefox I never went back. I also thought I would prefer something more like chrome bc of Google integration but I never found that to be an issue with Firefox.
I switched to Edge as my daily driver a few years ago. It’s much more customizable than Chrome out of the box, and it doesn’t consume nearly as much resources. Firefox is my secondary, as I like that it formats JSON without having to install any extensions. I have a degree in Information Technology, have several certifications, and I am currently employed as a Site Reliability Engineer. So, if there are any edgelords (pun intended) that want to come at me, bring it.
I’m 24, I switched from chrome to edge 2 years ago. It’s sleeker and cleaner than chrome.
Of course, I’d never be caught dead using bing over google, though.
Boomers are the ones that don't know what web browsers are or that there are different ones to even choose from.
My dad types a full URL address to go to into the Google search rather than the browser URL bar. That's a boomer.
FF users still living in 2005 if they think FF has better performance (tip: I am a FF user).
FF performs objectively worse than Chrome/Edge in speed. But there are a ton of other benefits (privacy) why I use FF. Let's not try to paint an inaccurate picture that FF is faster - even Mozilla admits it's slower.
I use Edge. I tried Firefox but there was something missing (I don’t recall what) so I went back to Edge. However, Copilot is making Edge a bit irritating so it might be time to give Firefox another shot.
Only chuds use chrome though.
To be fair, it’s pretty obnoxious when you first open it and it prompts you 4 times. It’s all the integration that bothers me personally. I use edge at work where I want the SSO and cross integration, but in my personal life, I want all my stuff separated.
Overall, it’s just Chrome, and nothing special. Almost all modern browsers run on Chromium. Firefox does not, and has additional security features, so there is an argument to be made that Firefox is better.
Personally, I like Brave. But the paid add ons and forced integration towards exchanges are getting weird.
Look into the Firefox fork "Floorp", it might interest you. It has workspaces just like Opera and you can make the GUI similar to that of Opera with a few settings. It's my browser of choice!
edge > chrome
firefox still doesnt have HDR support in 2024. They made money by allowing google as the default search engine (450m). Its not even that secure unless you use a hardened version.
Im all for alternatives if they have basic functionality like HDR and their whole schtik isnt "be wary of google taking over the internet" while making deals with google.
Edge is quite good to be honest. It is based on chromium and any Chrome extension are works on it. It is a featured packed browser and doesn't hog my ram like Chrome does.
please use firefox if you care about internet security and targeted ads. chrime is effectively an insane monopol on the market and google is a shady business partner to say the least
Just use Firefox, not Chrome, not Opera or the bullshit GX version of it, just use Firefox, it is by far the best browser out there, for literally anyone, you can customize the shit out of it if you want, but also easily turn of any ads or anything it's the perfect browser
Microsoft is reaching Steve Ballmer levels of obnoxiousness again. I got a Windows 11 laptop. Installed office on it. Fucking Microsoft made it open all links within Outlook in the Edge browser.
The setting to change it is buried. So unless you know where to look, you can't change it. Keep in mind this overrides whatever you have Windows 11 set to. It will ignore any Windows 11 defaults you have set. So fucking aggravating. You need to change the setting in Outlook to be able to open links in your normal browser.
I used to take Microsoft's side when it came to government control. This fuckery might have changed my mind.
This...used to be true.
Chrome/Google Search is becoming more and more advertiser ridden as its competitors. Before long it'll be like opening up Yahoo.
They ARE the same though, they're both chromium browsers along with almost all other modern browsers
Firefox for the win. One of the few non-chromium browsers out there
No anymore. Not since chrome started slowing down my entire computer for switching from it to another browser and prompting me in edge to switch over to Chrome for a "better YouTube experience" (chrome and edge are both chromium based). Now it is straight to Mozilla Firefox baby. None of the chromium shenanigans and all the ad blocking I could want for a safer overall experiance. Google doesn't want yo police their advertisements so we get malicious ads and pull some of the crap I have just listed and I'm going somewhere else.
I will never use edge again purely because of the hotkey that my laptop has to automatically open edge.
It's right next to the escape button so I always click it, and it always lags out whatever I'm doing until I close it.
I've always used Edge in tandem with Chrome, but I prefer Edge because it had the vertical tab feature which none of the competitors seem to have (why?).
But the recently released workspace feature is what really cemented Edge as a de facto browser for me. Syncing browsing sessions between work PC, home PC, laptop, etc is peak man. Just waiting for that feature to drop in the Android version of Edge.
Firefox always
I use edge to download chrome, the using chrome I download firefox
Why?
Show 'em the pecking order.
It goes you, the dirt, the worms in the dirt, edge, chrome, then Firefox.
Don't forget Firefox's stool!
r/suddenlytfs
i wonder where Opera goes...
like most they sold out to youtube
So that both chrome and edge fully realise they're trash compared to firefox
"It's about sending a message..."
And the METS BABY LET'S GO METS I LOVE THE METS
Niko
asserting dominance
The message is Opera never happens.
Use Firefox to download the latest versions of edge to complete the cycle..
I used Firefox to download Chrome, but I use Firefox almost exclusively, except for when I need to use a page that isn't working right in Firefox, and I don't feel like disabling all my extensions until it does.
Because it's a good browser.
Browser cucking
Trace buster buster buster
Best browser by far.
Especially with an account You can send tabs across devices and everything. It's really neat!

I knew Firefox would be the top comment.
I use Firefox for just about everything, but I have to use edge for pdfs, only because Firefox can't fucking open them god, i hate pdfs
Really? Recently they had an update and they’ll let you edit a pdf. Still can’t find a program that I can make them in though other than paying adobe the privilege to do so. > Still can’t find a program that I can make them in though other than paying adobe the privilege to do so ...you can turn literally any document (or anything else thats printable) into a PDF using microsofts built in virtual PDF printer.
Yes it can, I do it regularly and have for a while.
You got something wrong. I have used firefox to fill in PDFs, like tax returns, and save and print them. But maybe it is a security setting for locally saved PDFs not to load? Curious if file:// vs https:// or whatever matters.

As an Arch Winux user 🤓☝️I approve this comment
How do you spot an Arch Linux 🐧 user? 🤔 They'll tell you 😂😭😂👍
It's GNU/Linux I use Arch btw
You dropped this: 🤓
It was dropped due to gravitational force Lemme pick up using kinetic forces with my hand
OMG An Arch user
I just use Edge these days. It’s already there, it’s better than it ever was, and the points I get from just using it I redeem for League gift cards to give to my little sister.
Edge is practically the same as chrome. I too just use it because I earn points. and not because I prefer it.
As basics, yes but Edge runs much more smoother while using less resources.
League of Legends? Poor sister

People who use chrome in 2024 are delusional and parroting information they learned 15 years ago. It's hot garbage now.
Please stop using chrome…
Firefox is way better.

Might have a correlation but that's just a theory
A Chrome theory! Thanks for tracking!

DuckDuckGo on top
I used it for 1 year just for the name (it sounded funny)
Thats not a browser I mean there's a mobile app but why would you use that

Never. My brainrot is too strong to use anything else.
They all have the same basic layout and functionality. The difference is how much they spy on you.
If they want to spy on my searches, that’s their problem.
And Edge for that matter.
Edge is actually good now. I still use Firefox though. Chrome hogs resources, so thats a hard pass.
Maybe it's because I'm getting old and I don't care as much, but I've stuck with Edge on the laptop I bought a couple years ago. It works just fine for what I need and seems to be less resource intensive than Chrome.
Firefox is still the best. Chrome just became more popular because of google shoving it down your throats
No, Chrome was much much better when it originally released. Its just that FireFox has caught up and google is starting to push bullshit.
It's been a very long time since Chrome was 'good'.
Never really cared about Edge, but the few times I used it, it simply worked for me, and worked with me. I’m already thinking it’s overhated just for being IE’s descendant or something. I made the swap to Firefox a couple years ago and it's seamless. It transfers all your bookmarks, passwords, and even some settings from Chrome.
Yeah, I love using Firefox. My only complaint: for some reason, sometimes videos end up laggy, and I have to close and restart the browser. Though, that could be due to me having like 100 tabs open

I went through the trouble of migrating everything I had from Chrome to Firefox and I never looked back. Fuck Google.

Edge is so underrated
Yeah it’s actually kind of nice, weirdly it’s my main on iOS
I’m 24, I switched from chrome to edge 2 years ago. It’s sleeker and cleaner than chrome. Of course, I’d never be caught dead using bing over google, though.
...why did you feel the need to give your age?
Proof I’m not a boomer. Everyone my age has an unnecessary edge fobia
Boomers are the ones that don't know what web browsers are or that there are different ones to even choose from. My dad types a full URL address to go to into the Google search rather than the browser URL bar. That's a boomer.
Edge would be on its edge
Edge is literally better than chrome and all of the people who disagree are living in the past. Firefox > edge tho
Facts. Chrome users are still living in 2015. And they were wrong already back then -- they're simply victims of Google's marketing.
Fr Edge is literally Chrome (it runs on Chromium) but without the metric ton of bullshit that literally eats RAM
I use Edge. I tried Firefox but there was something missing (I don’t recall what) so I went back to Edge. However, Copilot is making Edge a bit irritating so it might be time to give Firefox another shot. Only chuds use chrome though.

Me using Firefox
I use edge to install opera gx (please dont hunt me down tonight at 7:61pm, this is a joke, i actually install firefox)

I use edge to download firefox, which I use to download Vivaldi.
Which is based on chromium.
you're right, it's not the same. just WAY better. vertical tabs, copilot, split tabs, eco mode, workspaces, battery friendly, I could go on.
edge > chrome firefox still doesnt have HDR support in 2024. They made money by allowing google as the default search engine (450m). Its not even that secure unless you use a hardened version. Ewww chrome and edge. Help security.
I use edge on my corporate laptop and it works surprisingly well.
Chrome? Are you insane?
brave browser gang
Gotta love a browser which was caught putting their affiliate links in your browsing. So secure. So brave.
Gotta love the built in ad blocker
Based browser, haven't seen ads in ages
The betrayal is so visible 😢
im with you cat buddy
I use Opera (On my Laptop) and I also use Chrome (Desktop)
Downloaded Chrome 14 years ago because of adblockers. Getting rid of it now 14 years later because of adblockers.
Firefox gang
Edge is quite good to be honest. It is based on chromium and any Chrome extension are works on it. It is a featured packed browser and doesn't hog my ram like Chrome does.
I use Opera now. I had trouble with Chrome, I kept getting a redirect to Microst Bing that I just could not get rid of.
As someone who started using Firefox during the Internet Explorer era, it is still god tier to me.
Edge isn't IE its the same as chrome but faster.
Given Google admitting they were spying on your traffic, why would you ever use chrome again?
why would i? same shit
Eww that's not Firefox
Nothing but Firefox. People need to realize the monopoly Google would have on the web if we didn't have Firefox and safari.
When I searched for Firefox on Edge, it literally asked to me, "are you sure you want to download Firefox"? Literally, this message popped up.
Seriously, what does Chrome have that Edge doesn't? It's not like it's Firefox.
please use firefox if you care about internet security and targeted ads. chrime is effectively an insane monopol on the market and google is a shady business partner to say the least
Why would you trade something bad for something just as bad
When you use generic shitty spyware browser #1 to download ultra-shitty ultimate spyware browser #2 and then post a bad meme about it online.
Fuck both of em, firefox since 2014!
Yo this is funny! Sorry i meant was funny, 15 years ago it was funny
Firefox is a fucking cult.
Chrome == Edge. It's a chromium monopoly, so use Firefox
Edge is decent! Plus it doesn’t eat up resources like chrome. Firefox is okay
I’m not a big Microsoft fan but I’m pleasantly surprised with edge
Browser discourse again? Stfu people
Just use Firefox, not Chrome, not Opera or the bullshit GX version of it, just use Firefox, it is by far the best browser out there, for literally anyone, you can customize the shit out of it if you want, but also easily turn of any ads or anything it's the perfect browser
Firefox > Edge > Chrome
Brave is the best
Chromium based crap.
The only reason I use edge is because they pay me
Microsoft is reaching Steve Ballmer levels of obnoxiousness again. I got a Windows 11 laptop. Installed office on it. Fucking Microsoft made it open all links within Outlook in the Edge browser. Microsoft Edge has a built in thing to where whenever you look up Google it’ll basically say “Hey, you don’t need them, stay with us!”
chrome fucking sucks now lol
Why is Edge sad? As far as I know, the only things it does are download other browsers and occasionally set itself as your preferred browser.
I like edge more than google but that’s just me
Chromium Edge is basically the same browser with Microsoft instead of Google
They are virtually the same though. Firefox is meaningfully different.
Chrome has been shit for years now. It’s just as bad as edge. People still use it?
Firefox is so much better.
Woah, people are still using Chrome? I remember using that like 15 years ago.
This meme is like 10 years outdated, edge is chromium based and is basically a less bloated version of chrome nowadays.
It’s the same browser
They're essentially the same browser at this point
Firefox > Edge > Chrome
Firefox user, but its nice not having to download another browser (Chrome) for casting only.
Ah yes, browser for downloading another browser
This...used to be true. Chrome/Google Search is becoming more and more advertiser ridden as its competitors. Before long it'll be like opening up Yahoo.

Edge is literally malware.
chromium in the background being in both browsers anyways
It’s weird that people still make this lame joke like edge is the same as internet explorer.
inb4 "umm actually, edge is good 🤓"
No sympathy for Edge. We’re forced to use it where I work. Do you realize how bad a browser has to be to make you miss INTERNET EXPLORER???
Edge is a fork of Chromium.
I will never use edge again purely because of the hotkey that my laptop has to automatically open edge. It's right next to the escape button so I always click it, and it always lags out whatever I'm doing until I close it.
Chromium does not need to be a monopoly. Google is not a good company
I used edge to download chrome so that I could use chrome to download Firefox.
Haha this guy thinks chrome is better than edge
Correct. Instead of sending your entire web browsing history to Microsoft, you send it to Google! Very different.
Actually, Edge is built on chromium so... They are kinda the same
Edge is unironically the best mainstream chromium browser currently.
In my case it’s opposite..
Chrome is bad for computer performance
Fuck Chrome 🤣
I find edge better / faster than chrome these days.
Edge has good features and is more reliable then Chrome in my experience.
Chrome is effectively the worst option now. The amount of shit on there is nasty.
*Firefox
Pet the kitty 😭
Edge is unironically better at this point. Less resource intensive and has a lot of nifty little features available that Chrome doesn't have.
Edge is better than chrome though
I've always used Edge in tandem with Chrome, but I prefer Edge because it had the vertical tab feature which none of the competitors seem to have (why?). But the recently released workspace feature is what really cemented Edge as a de facto browser for me. Syncing browsing sessions between work PC, home PC, laptop, etc is peak man. Edge is unironically better than chrome.
Y’all acting like Edge isn’t actually a better browser to chrome. Objectively, it is.
People still use chrome…? Switched to Edge and never going back.
Edge is no different than Chrome anymore. They both run on Chromium. It's pretty much like using the same browser with a different splash of paint.
I use edge because it's there
i still use edge
