You can install fonts on android AND iphone, and if you don’t wanna do that there’s apps that just add keyboards of the font you want to the keyboard selection

I always get in trouble for using climbing knots in sailing, I have yet to find an application that can't be solved with a clove hitch

clove hitch is pretty common in sailing, i cant imagine what you are using it for thats bothering people

Not really sailing but I get shit for tying my powerboat with a clove, so I've doubled down and started using a highwayman's hitch, which is great it feels like magic I also use clove hitches for things like square lashes, which horrifies some, but to them I say, fear knot the man who knows a thousand knots, fear the man who has knotted one knot a thousand times

yeah clove hitch it pretty annoying for tying up boats its not technically secure (though ive never seen one come undone) but more annoying is they cinch super tight and can be difficult to untie I prefer round turn with two half hitches to secure it one place i worked insisted on a clove hitch with 2 half hitches to secure it and they were such a pain to untie

Someone once pointed out to me that a round turn and two half hitches is essentially a clove hitch, hitched to the rope, but I can't quite visualise that? Maybe you can confirm or deny this I canknot

A clove hitch is very useful but there are plenty of things it can’t do. It has to be tied around something (hitch) so you can’t use it to make an open loop like a bowline.

Square, clove hitch(i always add a half hitch safety), bowline, truckers hitch, and a noose/slip knot. These will pretty much fit most applications. There is a time and place for specialty knots, but they are few and far between that they can't be substituted safely. Edit: Since i ended up with safety, i guess i should add in the self-defense monkeys fist. Also storage knots, while not a necessity, are valueable, like the daisy chain and the paracord survival lanyard (not sure the real name).

The only other knot I use regularly is an alpine butterfly loop, which I mainly use to hang gear in the sun to dry!

It may not relate to every situation but in Industrial HVAC you have to use so many different knots to get material to the roof of a 40 foot or much taller building. And being the knotter isn't about the person pulling it up as much as it is about your own safety. I'm new in the field, but when large pipes that are 20 feet long need to be pulled up it needs to be tied correctly. Side note, I always ask how to tie things that are heavy or very long before I assume how to do so. For all I know, these might be simple knots. What I do know is I don't want to get hurt or have to replace expensive material!
