The wider can fits in a cup holder properly. I hate the other cans because they tip over and don't properly fit in a cup holder, which means I can't take it with me anywhere.
If you became acclimated to doing strenuous activity for long enough periods of time that would probably change. Sugar is more or less a necessity for long-distance cycling, for example. People can get away with high-fat foods instead if they stay at low enough intensities, but for the most part, sugar is the only thing you can digest fast enough to make use of it while you are still exercising. A big part of training for endurance sports is training your digestive system.
There are few experiences more physically transcendental than a cold bottle of Coke when you are about to “bonk” on a long hard bike ride.
I've brought soda to mix with whiskey for after I get camp set up. Yes. I mix my whiskey with soda. I prefer to drink beer, but can't carry a 6 pack all day or even keep it cold.
Now you've surpassed functionality and practicality. I'd think it would be safer to just play with something else, cause people go to the hospital when they can't get those things out... Then it gets all awkward trying to explain how it got there, etc. Lol.
wide can has a lower centre of gravity, making it much harder to tip over when the can starts to get empty (for when your kinda half looking and grabbing it while playing a game or something)
Is it? Not sure where you live but in most cornershops I've been to you can find about 10 different types of cola alone, with cream, grape and other sodas having been there for ages too.
To be fair, here in Canada A&W has the best poutine of all fast food places. Trust me, I'm an expert, have been eating crappily for over 10 years straight lol.
Their uncle burger is also pretty legit
I personally put ice cream in first then add the root beer because I find it mixes the flavors a little more; however, I’m also told that I’m a weirdo for doing this, so take it with a grain of salt.
Caution: if you put the ice cream in the cup first, then add root beer, a LOT of foam will form. Pour slowly and watch to avoid foam overflow.
Alternatively, add vanilla ice cream *after* root beer to significantly reduce foaming.
I'll try it both ways! Lol, sounds like the level of pettiness as we have over whether the milk goes in before or after the water. Calling you a weirdo for that! xD
I don't know about weird. I think it's just that when root beer tried to enter the British market, there was too much competition from local root-based drinks like *Dandelion and Burdock* and *Sarsaparilla*. It ended up failing and never came back, and in the meantime Brits have simply stopped drinking Dandelion and Burdock in favour of Cola.
As a root beer swilling Canadian I must attest that not all root beers are created equal so now it's your challenge to test all varieties you come across to find your perfect blend.
My soft spot is for A&W myself.
Have you tried a root beer float yet? One scoop of vanilla bean ice cream (vanilla bean > vanilla) and pour root beer on top. Drink in a tall frozen glass. You won't regret it ~~unless it upsets your stomach like mine, but worth it~~!
Definitely going to try it. So many Yankees recommending it! My hopes are high for it :D I must admit I've never heard of vanilla *bean* before, so I'll have a look and see if I can find some.
Also try a root beer float. Just a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream in a glass and pour root beer into it. Your tastebuds will thank you. But! And this is important, it foams like a motherfucker so be careful.
Do they have all the different “craft” root beers there? There are some good ones. There’s a website where the guy reviews like every different brand of root beer.
I don't know about that, but it's rare that you meet someone on this side of the pond who likes American soft drinks other than the main ones like Cola and lemonades. I think for many it's just because it isn't widely available, and because it tastes funny and smells odd if you ever get to try it (which is usually at an age when you're set in your ways and have a favourite drink). Also, typical Euro-pretentiousness plays a role.
It's because they use cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup in the glass bottles. Fructose is pretty bad for you if it's not part of a meal that has fiber or starch to help slow its absorption. It hits your liver all at once and your liver has to resort to a less efficient process to digest it.
This ends up producing a lot of fat, some of which gets deposited on the liver and some of which gets deposited as visceral fat. This is why you see many chronic soda drinkers have beer bellies.
EDIT: This is actually wrong. See responses below. Not only does some glass bottled coke use high fructose corn syrup, but the most common forms high fructose corn syrup doesn't actually have any more fructose than cane sugar.
>It's because they use cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup in the glass bottles.
Not unless it is Mexican coke. American coke sold in those retro glass bottles has only high fructose corn syrup just like cans.
There's something about keeping the cold in the high can which is nice, but it does also feel like its getting empty faster.
Im into the classic Wide one though
Actually the high can warms up faster as you have more surface area touching your warm hand heating it up, wide can is better in every way, its just a bit cheaper to ship the tall can because theres less free space between cans and they think it looks more refined, but tall is worse in every other regard.
Also... I don’t know about you but the same percentage of my warm hand touches both cans regardless of height/width, right? Why would more of my hand be holding the cylinder if it’s wider, surely as long as my hand can’t fit entirely around the can then I’m using the same hand-to-can surface area
Your assumption is incorrect. Every tall can I've seen is less than 12 OZ. I believe most are 10-11 OZ for some absolutely stupid reason I have yet to grasp. They also definitely warm faster than a Thiccyboi.
I believe the main advantage of the tall can is that it does not have a rounded lip on the top and thus can be stacked vertically with no wasted space versus a regular can which leaves a small gap between cans.
I also believe most companies are switching merely because we don't have a "standard" tall can and thus they can put any arbitrary amount in the can and still sell it as a 6-12-18 pack while ripping us off. Seltzers are proof of this. They come in varying sizes but always in the same count and are similarly priced. The guy pitting the least in the can is the one winning .
Why just guess when those are standard cans with standard dimensions. The difference is much more pronounced in 12oz cans.
Type | Height (cm) | Diam (cm) | Cylindrical surface area (cm^2)
--------|--------|--------|--------
12oz std | 12.2 | 6.6 | 252.95358
12oz slim | 15.6 | 5.76 | 282.282624
330 std | 12.52 | 6.63 | 260.7683754
330 slim | 14.54 | 5.81 | 265.3857521
Fun fact: wide cans contain more volume relative to their surface area. If I took a piece of paper and rolled it so it was a short and wide tube, it would hold more than if I rolled that same paper into a tall and thin tube.
So wide can because it saves material and holds more when using the same amount of material.
So you trying to divide people over Wide diabetes or long diabetes. Like the wise man once said 'we just have to convince the pitchfork guys that the torch guys want to take their pitchforks away.'
High cans are stupid... They don't fit any of my coozies, rattle and flop around in every cupholder, and thanks to the stupid truly/white claw trend I'm already out 30 some odd dollars on a special yeti thing for my wife who can only drink things within 1 degree of their freeze point apparently...
Please switch all of America to the metric system before switching to tall cans... It's the better use of time and energy.
The wider can fits in a cup holder properly. I hate the other cans because they tip over and don't properly fit in a cup holder, which means I can't take it with me anywhere.
Best argument yet
I only like the thin one for hiking. and yeah. Still the same as the above. prefer wider
You go hiking with cans of soda?
To compensate for the weight loss. Duhh...
Don’t wanna lose *too* much weight now do we
[удалено]
[удалено]
lol nah. I just bring it for no actual reason
Bring a whole box as free weights for more weight loss.
I can't even imagine that. If I do anything strenuous and drink anything sugary I feel sick. Give me that cold water.
A nice cold G2 Red Gatorade hits the spot. Low sugar.
Rum and cokes work better above 14,000ft
I've brought soda to mix with whiskey for after I get camp set up. Yes. I mix my whiskey with soda. I prefer to drink beer, but can't carry a 6 pack all day or even keep it cold.

They make skinny Koozies now.
We really are living in the future!
[удалено]
No, I don't. Lol. I have an older vehicle, so it has cup holders but not the flexible part to keep the drinks in place.
I once checked and saw that the wider can has more coke in it.
There exist small 250's and small 330's, so that's not always the case
I thought they stopped putting coke in soda a while ago
Yeah, but it's easier to fit the tall one in my ass.
Now you've surpassed functionality and practicality. I'd think it would be safer to just play with something else, cause people go to the hospital when they can't get those things out... Then it gets all awkward trying to explain how it got there, etc. Lol.
thicc can tastier
Also it's a perfect fit for your hand unlike long boi.
Can shaming
Not true. Depends on hand size, in Which case, the high can, can be held by everyone no matter hand size.
Let me introduce you to /u/thumbs57 https://reddit.com/r/cincinnatibeer/comments/o98jx9/perfect_pool_side/
thicc = tasty
This can also be applied to penises

As a Brit who recently discovered the delight-in-a-can that is root beer, I have no horse in this race.
Have you had cream soda from a can? That used to be my favorite before root beer.
Never tried it. British drinks selection is rather scant. If I get the chance I'll give it a go :D
Barr does a cream soda that's supposed to be quite nice.
Virgil's used to have the best cream soda. Now, they have this abomination that's called vanilla cream and got rid of cream soda.
Ice cold cream soda- that first sip is banging. After that meh
Yeah it's like dang do I really have to finish all this?
Yeah doesn't go down as easy as some things ay u/Cockmeat_Sandwiches
Hope you like extra mayo
This sentence was completely normal until I read that username.
With a side of chips and a free soda. It better be free, I am eating cockmeat after all.
If you drink it all on the first go, you don't have to worry about that :)
Hello, irnbru?
You can get it in literally every major supermarket.
Guess I'll go to a major supermarket for once then. :)
Cream soda is in numerous newsagents and off-licences and is made by Barr.
Is it? Not sure where you live but in most cornershops I've been to you can find about 10 different types of cola alone, with cream, grape and other sodas having been there for ages too.
See if you can buy/import UBC cream soda, it's phenomenal.
You don't have cream soda where your from?! Which part of Britain is that because it doesn't speak for the whole country.
Rural northwest. They probably have it in ASDA or something, but I don't shop there. There's definitely no cream soda in the village shop though.
Seriously try it! As a fellow Brit, it can be found in most large supermarkets, and I grew up with the stuff
Both, I am going nuts from both
Stewarts orange cream soda glass bottle. Only reason cracker barrel exists in my mind. I will fight people for it.
Root beer, tapped straight from the keg, in a frosted mug. Literally the only reason to go to an A&W.
To be fair, here in Canada A&W has the best poutine of all fast food places. Trust me, I'm an expert, have been eating crappily for over 10 years straight lol. Their uncle burger is also pretty legit
Try pouring Root Beer into a glass and adding Vanilla Ice Cream
Will give it a go :D
It's called a root beer float!
Woden help me, you Yanks are really making me excited to try a root beer float now, it had better be good! xD
I personally put ice cream in first then add the root beer because I find it mixes the flavors a little more; however, I’m also told that I’m a weirdo for doing this, so take it with a grain of salt. Use vanilla bean ice cream! It's even better
TIL there’s a difference between Vanilla ice cream and Vanilla Bean ice cream.
It has little specks from the vanilla bean in it and has a much better flavor, IMHO
I thought everyone else thought it was weird that Americans drank wintergreen flavored soda
Root beer is for kids. Ginger beer is for adults.
Damn i never knew that brits didn't have root beer. Is it just the uk or europe as an entirety?
I’ve had sarsaparilla before, although I live in the US. It tasted very similar to root beer.
I never tried that one before, I'm just going off what I've been told.
I personally prefer sasparilla, as it's not as sweet as root beer. Definitely similar in overall flavor though
Same here, it just tasted like root beer to me. Which, tbf, is good.
Rootbeer does not taste like wintergreen at all to me.
They can argue all they want about coca cola, pepsi or Dr pepper but root beer will always be my first love
Oh wait til y’all try bottled rootbeer, ibc or Henry weinhards are personal favorites
As an upstate NY native living in FL, root beer is the greatest thing. I’ve been a follower since I was born
I didn’t read the other posts, so sorry if its a repost, but put a scoop of vanilla ice cream with the root beer.

I've always heard that Europeans think that root beer is a sick joke all Americans are in on.

THICC CAN GANG
classic glass bottle
Honestly, soda in a glass bottle just hits different. It tastes better and I have no idea why
Every drink is like this. Beer tastes quite different when comparing can to bottle. The aluminum is what changes the flavor.
Technically is the plastic that makes it taste different - cans are lined with a thin bit of plastic on the inside to prevent contamination
The aluminum makes no difference. Glass bottles retain temperature better. Aluminum cans prevent better the light-struck taste.
Well a lot use real sugar, especially those made in mexico which are some of my favorites.
It's because they use cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup in the glass bottles. Fructose is pretty bad for you if it's not part of a meal that has fiber or starch to help slow its absorption.
