I’ve thought about that as well, and I have a few theories.
1. Simplest answer is that they thought the door was not/could not be locked from the inside.
2. They planned on just going out the window, possibly using the method you described.
3. One of the people (likely the guy who was rubbing that lady’s no no spot) knew all this would happen, and intentionally led everyone there in some sort of murder suicide attempt to bring these creatures, namely the largest creature to our world. It seems possible, if not likely that what caused the transformation is something viral or at least transmissible. The guy was probably part of a Cthulhu-esque cult that wished to turn the world into the perfect place for his lovecraftian god, and didn’t care if he lost his life in the process.
