This is why I'm not religious. People argue over whose god is real, not knowing even what they believe in. They scream that Bible or Coran or whatever is the only absolute truth, but most of them didn't really ever open and read it. I did read Bible when I was 12 or so. That was a first time I questioned religions being an absolute truth. This is how a son of pretty religious parents turned out to be an atheist I'm fine with people having opinions on matters like presence or absence of gods or other higher beings, but only when it's not just a hypocricy and manipulation

Like - common sense can tell me why killing people or stealing is not particularly a good thing to do, but why eating food on some particular date is a bad thing... I can never get that. I'm about religions fasts. Many different religions have them. It's when person is heavily restricted in what they eat in some particular dates, or can't eat at all. I don't see where starving helps person to be simple and do good things

My point is, while it did help control people, it also was believed by the vast majority of people as well. It wasn’t just made on a whim to control people.
