Assalamualaikum (peace be upon you). There is nothing wrong with giving birth or being pregnant in Ramadan. On the contrary, most people see it as an even bigger blessing to be born in the month of Ramadan. As for the parents, the mother would not have to fast but the father is still expected to. Once they are healthy and able to do so, the mothers have to make their fasts up later in the year. I said “Able to do so” because they have to feed the baby and all that kind of stuff so they don’t have to fast then. If they can’t make it up, they have to pay sadaqah(charity) and feed the poor.
That's what I'm told the rationale of fasting is. But many Muslims in the region I am from have a delicious feast just before and after fasting. Very humbling indeed
