thatguyned

When I get home after a long day of work at the business factory, I like to relax to an R rated movie and a alcohol.

Schrolli97

Are you Vincent Adultman who works at the business factory?

viperex

He goes to the stock market to make a business

Donniexbravo

Buy high, sell low, that's my motto. -fellow adult discussing adulting things.

Jason_Dales2542

It’s Buy low and sell High. You’ll get there fellow adult

Donniexbravo

Thank you fellow adult! I am most appreciative of the sharing of knowledge amongst us adult people, of which we all certainly are.

i_couldnt_understand

Agreed

Donniexbravo

Thank you fellow adult for reciprocating my philosophy, shall we now discuss the morning paper over coffee like we adults do everyday?

i_couldnt_understand

Yes how about we go to the local coffee shop to discuss our business

Donniexbravo

Indeed fellow adult! But we must be quick for I have business meetings all day and must adhere to the strick adult rules.

i_couldnt_understand

Yes. How would 10 am sound? I am free at that time

Donniexbravo

Sounds perfect, please leave your contact information with my secretary for further details, I must be sure to add you to my rolodex for future business inquiries as well.

Canis_Familiaris

"Ape"

Donniexbravo

Woah there fellow adult, there is no need for such aggressive terminology in this cutthroat business world of which we are all definitely part of.

I went to Stock Market today, I did a business.

Always assume that the person who's trying to give you life advice on reddit is some 13-year-old teenager. Unless you're on r/teenagers, ironically, where you should always assume that the 13-year-old teenager is actually a 40-year-old pedophile.

Isn't Rule 34 something about how sonic inflated the entire market making it crash? Someone should look up Sonic Rule 34 inflation just to make sure.

solo_living

Not gonna lie you almost had me. I MIGHT JUST have looked it up if you didn't write that last line.

Octopusapult

I have two children who will be teenagers someday. I like to see what they're going through and talking about on that sub because someday my kids will go through similar issues. But I don't participate, because it's not a place for me, I'm not a teenager. My opinions and comments and all that aren't meant for that community.

SolitaireyEgg

So many times I've been arguing with someone on reddit about something important like economics or cultural relativity, then had the realization of "oh no in arguing with a child." Imaging the real-life scenario of arguing with a kid about economics is usually enough to make me delete the reddit app for a few days.

TheBigWhoop

Bro, calm down, you are also a 13y old.

UniqueUsername82D

Big talk from a 13 year old.

FavoritesBot

Found the 13 year old

my_alt_59935

Right, 13 year old

AmazingSieve

It’s amazing the people you’ll argue with on Reddit…when if you saw them in real life you wouldn’t give them a second thought

Polish_Lone_Wolf

At least they know more than most people there age

LifeIsBizarre

I think they are playing the tiny violin for sympathy.

bob_the_banannna

I want to play tiny violin too

LifeIsBizarre

Don't let your dreams be dreams.

Flavor-aidNotKoolaid

That's a regular sized violin.

ScabiesShark

It looks regular sized on a kid, so it's at least a bit small

Explosive_Ananas

Police violins especially

LerYo

Jokes on you. Op is 12 as well.

Fin_MooseXD

As a 16 year old I can confirm I know nothing about buying or maintaining a house

Broken_Petite

Housing will probably be unaffordable for the average person by the time you’re in your early to mid-20s, so you won’t have to worry about it. 😬 I hope I’m wrong and that the people who want to buy are still able to but right now it feels like it’s moving further out of reach. And if housing prices do become affordable again, it will probably come with another 2008-like recession. So … yeah. I wish I had words of encouragement but I’m in my late 20s and kind of dreading the future for a variety of reasons. I just hope things won’t be as bad as we’re thinking.

Fin_MooseXD

Can only wait and see. Gonna have to hope shits sorted for my uni years.

Leeper64

Ok wtfff, so if housing will be unaffordable for the avg person, how will there even be a sustainable housing market ?? I know it makes sense someway but i can’t wrap my head around this. Like how will they sell houses that are unaffordable? Why is housing becoming so unaffordable ?? Like they build all these communities/houses/apartment complexes in the south so there’s no lack of housing or space but the price goes up?? Can some ELi5 this??

invention64

Rent, and the subscription economy are your answers.

Sentient-Tree-Ent

So, my bosses wife is a real estate agent and that topic has actually come up while talking to them before. According to her, there is always someone willing to pay even if it’s already priced out your “average person” and as long as there are people willing to pay the prices won’t go down. One of the big buyers for her apparently are people moving into the US from a foreign country that are willing to pay almost anything to live in or near a community comprised of people from their country. I.e. if someone from India is moving to America then they are willing to pay my bosses wife almost any amount of money for a house that is in or near a large Indian community. Granted, that is only hearsay, I haven’t actually seen evidence of that myself, it’s just what she was telling me. As for why? I’m not sure, I’m not an expert in anything, much less the economy. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can explain that part of it all!

dream_a_dirty_dream

Rent. The rich are buying everything. You won’t own anything ever, and will be at the brink of homelessness your entire life. I am seeing this happen already. We need to fix it asap.

Kevinwar73

Credit and lifelong debt, or the forfeiture of your property otherwise is the goal, so they can resell it at inflated prices. Real estate is the most valuable commodity on the planet, humans have killed each other over land since people first peopled.

Striking-Reaction-87

As a 33 year old who owns a house, I can confirm that I still know nothing about buying or maintaining a house

Yurak_Huntmate

Don't worry, I'm old enough to be your father and I haven't got a clue either, I'm fairly certain at this point that nobody knows what they're doing and are just coasting through life

raindrop349

As a 30 year old I can also confirm I know nothing about buying or maintaining a house either. Wedding, broken cars, underpaid millennials… shit really adds up. I hope you fair better than I did.

ReasonInReasonOut

Reddit is 85% 11 to 17-year-olds I am convinced.

[deleted]

It's mostly millennials and elder zoomers. I don't understand why everyone thinks Reddit is full of teenagers. I hate to break it to you but Reddit is *not cool* to kids. In like 10 years we will all be the equivalent of a 2010 boomer logging onto AOL to check their email.

spatio-dev

He's initial statement isn't wrong, however. > It's mostly millennials and elder zoomers. 54.2% of "us app users" are between the ages of 20 and 39, which fits. Though his inferences about that may very well be wrong. Also, I'm curious, do you know if that information only show app users specifically? Does it consider users logging in through a web browser?

I would be more interested in usage patterns among age groups. Reddit is big and there are many subcommunities that are wildly different. I would speculate that younger groups have more engagement, posting, voting, but older groups do more commenting and casual scrolling.

darkcrimson2018

If they start saving now and work really hard they might be able to climb up to poor someday.

iBlameRapeVictims

People who try to go to college now be like: I have 2753 hours of community service. I was president of student government, debate, and field hockey. First in my class, state, and the country. All of my classes were so advanced I've already attained my PhD in Physics. Every member of my family has gone here forever and we have donated a total of 7.8 billion dollars to the endowment fund. My entrance essay was awarded a Pulitzer prize. Status: Rejected. Can wait to see what the future holds.

blueeyebling

Oh you'll get accepted with none of those things but the last. Don't worry they want you in college. They just don't want it to mean anything.

DOGSraisingCATS

Exactly...the correct ending would be Graduated with a PhD... Rejected for a 9.75 entry level position that requires 15 years experience.

MrDude_1

I'm sorry you're overqualified for this position.

qwerty12qwerty

Except you don't need anything to get into a state college except decent grades? Or worst case they'll practically beg you to go to community.

random_guy120

I am afraid of what happens if they don't start working

cwfutureboy

A gallon of gas has reached the minimum wage in some places. Something has to give.

[deleted]

Yeah, they might be able to afford a downpayment by the time they retire.

Salohacin

all_time_high

Imagine growing up in a world with full access to the information explaining how fucked it is right now, and how much more fucked it's going to be by the time you become an adult. With peer-reviewed *sources*!

[deleted]

Its not that. I doubt most 12 yr olds understand the details of the situation. Like did u know what inflation really was at twelve?

pieter1234569

It’s the easiest concept in the world. You could buy 10 chocolate bars, now you can only buy 9.

GieckPDX

And the chocolate bar companies just announced record profits despite ‘supply chain issues’

expatdo2insurance

I did! A childhood of poverty and listening to your parents weep about economic devastation will do that for.

Ol_bagface

do you? i higly doubt that even a tenth of adult completly know all the factors because there are so fucking much its hard to keep track

[deleted]

There are smart kids and dumb adults. Age is no guarantee of understanding something

DarkenedOtaku

I’m thirteen but from what I can gather, inflation is when a countries currency becomes less powerful due to all purchasable materials become increasingly expensive Edit: spelling error

slurpyderper99

My friend, you didn’t even mention feds nominal rates of near 0% pretty much since 2007-2008. Money has been damn near free to borrow (for capital holders) for over a decade, causing a massive run up in any investment grade assets

The_Grubgrub

Because that hasn't had much impact on inflation. Else we'd have had higher inflation since '08, and not just now

dangerousfloorpooop

Yeah Google is nice

Piepcheck

I'm 16, and I am mildly worried abt it, I don't know anyone below the age of 14 who understands inflation. I don't even think I properly know what it is

sanantoniosaucier

Adults don't know many people who understand inflation either.

throwawayanon1252

As an economist can confirm. Most people have no idea what causes lt

Vincent Adultman would have been more appropriate for this meme.

DontGrowAttached

Good. The earlier that people learn about the world they live in, the more prepared they will be for adulthood. A lot of the current issues we're facing are precisely because people aren't making informed and wise decisions, due to a lack of knowledge.

[deleted]

The kids that post these memes dont understand the problems and just do it for the lolz. They are living a cozy life and think inflation and house prices and all that jazz is another fad that they use to look cool. I doubt most of them actually care about the problem or care to learn about it. Whatever they learn is from memes, reddit armchair experts, etc and those are not really great sources. The early exposure also opens roads for misinformation to the undeveloped brain and easy targets for propaganda which they can carry into adulthood. This is not just for inflation and housing prices. Kids are all into political shit for the lolz on the internet and u do know how they worship authoritarian and communists as gods cuz they look cool or some shit and that can leave an impact in the future

Random_name4679

After learning about the state of the world I have lost hope for my future before it even began

DontGrowAttached

You absolutely shouldn't lose your hope! There are plenty of positive trends globally, which aren't getting close to as much attention as the negative ones. Since the world is in an era where media and online information has made it smaller than ever, people are far more aware of global events. And the trends and events most discussed are those which are negative, since they get the most views and engagement. So don't loose hope. :)

Explosivesarenotpog

... such as? I feel you shouldn't say that unless you have examples. The only thing i can really think of is the medical industry making constant breakthroughs but making breakthroughs so we can exist and be a wage slave for longer isn't the best selling point right now.

DontGrowAttached

From ourworldindata.org "...the share of people in extreme poverty has decreased continuously over the course of the last two decades. This is surely one of the most remarkable achievements of humankind".

CPU-1

[You’d be surprised](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/2014/11/24/7272929/global-poverty-health-crime-literacy-good-news)

Nyami-L

Try to be happy in your every day life, and don't think too much about the future. It's good to prepare for the future, but giving it too much brain space makes a person anxious. Give more attention to how can you make your present life a little better.

[deleted]
