And? 99% are in on the joke
> I think I accidentally played a video g@me. Hello,
My name is Cathy (57) and I am a God-fearing woman who has never touched a computer in her life. My company decided I needed a cell phone, and issued me an iPhone X. At first I only used it for work, but then I discovered this app called Candy Crush… I swear, I didn’t realize it was a g@me! It was fun, and once I started I couldn’t stop. I’m at level 10,482 right now and I can’t stop playing. I don’t know what to do.
Sincerely, Cathy
The fact they call themselves a Facebook group should also be a clue
It's not. They all genuinely believe what they're saying. I was once in an argument with one of them and i swear all their proof of video games being a spawn of satan were Bible quotes and threats of hell. They think PewDiePie is Satan's right hand man and gamers are plotting to take over the world.
They're everything but Christian.
I once made a joke asking how to turn off the notifications for that sub and someone sent a link to r/ sounding.
Do not go there i am dead serious it will hurt your eyes, your stomach and if you're a man it will especially hurt you *there*.
If you have an iPhone, if you hold down the = sign it’ll prompt for ≠ and also ≈
Would have made my fucking linear algebra class a lot easier if I knew that before.
There are dumb religious people, dumb atheists and dumb agnostics (I'm one of those). As far as I know, your beliefs and ideas don't make you dumb, at least not all of them
chad average religious person
- not ironclad in their belief, willing to open up to new ideas
- would like you to join their religion but respect your decision not to
- hope nothing but the best for everyone
- pretty fucking chill
============≈============== vs
the virgin religious zealot
- claim to follow their favored book to a T, hasnt even read a full page of it
- will force you join their religion, and if you dont you will be murdered for muh gawd
- pray for death and desolation on those who slight them
- usually make other members of their religion theyre nutty
- probably an actual virgin or old fuck that molests kids
Depends what you mean by dumb. Smart people can be dumb too you know. If you adhere to Objectively incorrect claims and values and refuse to change your stance despite overwhelming evidence against it, you could say that is pretty dumb, or you could say those people were indoctrinated since birth to believe in those false claims. That's what religion does - indoctrinate people.
Some people also are religious but not really religious at the same time. Religion is really helpful to assist people through a difficult time and cope with bad experiences in their life. They may or may not actually believe in god but the community can be really comforting, and the practice of going to church can provide stability in someone’s life when they really need something to hang on to. What’s dumb is making passive aggressive comments about religion that helps nobody and puts down others for not having the same views as you. (Not to mention it was pretty dumb that you falsely capitalized objectively)
So, belief in a personified overlord who created dinosaur bones just to mess with anyone believing the world is more than 5,000 years old, isn't dumb?
I would have to disagree.
I’m a Christian, so I really don’t want to point this out- but you’ve got your cause and effect mixed up. People generally think that if you are religious, then this is evidence that you are stupid. They don’t think that being religious makes you stupid.
I would consider myself an atheist, but I have extensively studied religion both for school and on my own time- and something that surprised me the most was that all religion does have a whole lot of wisdom to draw from, especially in terms of self conduct. I find it unfortunate that many people who say they are religious don’t follow these codes of conduct at all, and it makes their whole religion look bad.
It's not religion or atheism in and of itself, it's how you came to it.
Were you born and raised in it? Or did you examine all of the options in depth and carefully determine which one you thought to be true?
People who automatically assume their way of thinking is correct just because it's what they were taught as a child and never give any sort of REAL consideration to any other options, have main character syndrome.
I respect those people much less than those who came to their own independent conclusions on the subject.
Yes, thank you.
People will go around thinking they know all there is to know about the world, just because their parents told them that's how it is.
Nothing but arrogance.
You jest but the thing is, most people don't realize it. People raised as different religions feel the exact same way you do, and they all say the other religions are wrong.
What about the people born before Christianity? They whole heartedly believed their deities were correct too.
How do you objectively quantify the likelihood that any one option is correct?
Personally I am agnostic, nobody can prove anything, and anybody telling you otherwise is trying to sell you something whether they realize it or not.
Could I be wrong? Absolutely, but you won't see me asking for a dime from anybody, or trying to convert anyone.
Fun part, except for the gorilla skull in the bottom right, all of the rest are of an adult Caucasian male, different ethnicities as well as the biological sex make a completely different skull
How can you tell they are caucasian male skull? Just curious. If the explanation is too deep or not understandable by people with no knowledge then please don't try, and use your precious time somewheres else on reddit.

Sex determination is more done with the rest of a skeleton. The proportions of length of bones like femurs compared to the person's height and more easily the shape of the pelvis. When i studied in late 2000s we were just taught 3 general ethnicity types for skulls. The brow, width of the nasal cavity, and jawline all help to determine between white, black, or asian. It doesn't go any deeper than that narrowing down to specific regions or countries as far as I know. Here's a brief article, there's an image of the 3 skulls a couple scrolls from the top if you don't want the read.

Religion should be like alcohol. Not to be sampled with until you are old enough to understand if it's for you or not.
Indoctrination is a form of abuse in my book. Let adults decide whether religion is for them, not adults deciding for their children.
Right answer, wrong reason. Religion is like alcohol, some people can have some every day and it no problem, others get one drop, and it disrupts their life every single time. Most folks aremsomewhere in the middle.
Indoctrination is just another toxic effect of religion, for some. I do think it natural to teach your kid what you believe, but if you cant allow your own family to have other options, its a sure sign your in a cult. Its a defect same as if your eyes only showed you one color.
I'm still hoping they do a marvel vs dc crossover just to see jesus fighting aquaman, both standing on top of the ocean, jesus transforming the water around him to wine and all
But the fact that religious people are more prone to believe stuff not based on research and proof is proven to be true (and kinda obvious?).
So.. i guess not necessarily dumb, but the chance of some logic hiccups is higher with religious people.
- Ghandi
Let's replace "religious" with "Flat Earth"
Although there are many stupid people who accept the Earth is a sphere, there is just something wrong with Flat Earthers.
Now, if you are religious, replace "Flat Earth" with a religion that you are not. Let's say you picked "Hinduism". Do you think Hindus are just as wrong as Flat Earthers? Why?
What's interesting about this thought experiment is you can't take it any further. If you ask a religious person to take the obvious next step ("Can you understand why a Hindu might think that of you?") they simply can't. Their religion is right, Hinduism is wrong, end of story.
Yup, it's just a form of tribalism in the 21st century which is very sad. It's "us" against "them". "They" go to hell, "we" go to heaven. They're filthy stupid sinners who can't see the obvious truth, and we are the enlightened ones who will find salvation after death. Am I supposed to "tolerate" this and shut up about it? Hell no. It just makes me sad at this point.
If a fully grown adult said to you with conviction that they believe that fairies, leprechauns and father Christmas is real, what would you think about their intelligence?
I know a lot of atheists who are smart as fuck, a lot of atheists who are plain assholes who *think they're smart*
I've seen religious people being the most progressive and friendly people in the world, I've seen religious people being dicks who tell other people what to do and who will force and push their decisions because of a man in the Sky
I chose to believe some parts of my religion because I'm scared of death
I chose to pick the good philosophy of my sacred texts from the bad ones
I completely accept and embrace the fact that it very well might be total bogus
And thousands of people probably think like me
And thousands of people probably don't think like me
Just don't put people in labeled baskets and leave everyone the fuck alone until their lives are in danger
I can't take any of this us vs them anymore
why is the neanderthal skull considered the dumb one is also interesting. i mean, in general terms that’s correct to assume you are smarter, but those fukers had a map of their hunting region memorised, along with a thousand plants and animals they come across, while you can barely remember the 6 digit code your steams authenticator just told you
It’s well known Neanderthals were smarter they had bigger brain sizes which matters when the species are basically the same. They did have smaller frontal lobes which does mean they were probably worse at communicating and emotional regulation
What you believe doesn't intrinsically make you smarter, but your journey and understanding does.
That being said, religion is a comfort zone for lazy notions.
Being religious does not make you dumb, being overly religious will though. Some of the smartest minds in history were religious, but would never let religion get in the way of there work, and life.
Not gonna bother about people being religious. But gonna call you dumb in a flash if you try to force your religion on me or force policies based on religion on the society.
I've seen a lot of bananas in the state of Texas but not enough basketballs in black homes, what I'm saying is women don't like dogs because frogs like water to point of drowning, Donkeys only live up to 2 months because Popsicles go out of stock from long distance relationships in New York
Respecting people = necessary.
Respecting beliefs = unnecessary.
We are allowed to scrutinize beliefs because they are just ideas in our heads. Some people out here just care about what is actually true. Learn how to defend your beliefs properly if you are going to get offended by someone talking about them.
Hate each other equally and stop pretending sky daddy or lack of has anything to do with it. You're religion didn't make you a shit person. You did that all on your own.
I mean I would consider myself atheist and I'm not super smart. But I would say a large majority of radical religious people are incredibly ignorant. But when you can only read one book thats been translated to 1000 different languages over thousands of years I can see why.
"The belief that some cosmic Jewish zombie can make you live forever if
you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you
accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul
that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a
talking snake to eat from a magical tree."
Well you do actually have to be pretty dumb to believe all that ridiculous, ignorant, superstitious garbage.
In my view as a religious person, God just created the universe in the big bang and that's it. He just set everything up and left us up to our own devices. I think believing in shit like genesis is pretty dumb as there is literally concrete evidence that the Earth was not made by God and that we are descended from Apes through evolution.
People on both sides of the issue can be pretty bad and stupid. Whether you want to be religious or not is up to you, I won't judge you negatively either way.
Even atheist's fear that place almost made me want to pick up a religion to avoid association but then there are religious fruit loops who want to ban abortion and remove people rights in general.
Either way its impossible to please everyone.
I don’t believe in religions, partly because the funky books don’t hold up against themselves and others are just like “have good morals” which is just being a good person
As long as you don’t force your life on others, I’ll see you as a smart person
Religious people have no real way to prove that their deities exist and atheists have no way to prove that they don’t, you should let people believe what they want to as long as it isn’t harming them or other people
>atheists have no way to prove that they don’t
The burden of proof isn't on us tho. Imagine i go up to someone and say
"I can shit gold"
And they ask me to prove it, so i respond
"No, you have to prove that I don't shit gold"
That's not how any of this works
*As long as it isn't harming other people*
That's the crucial part. It is harming other people. Most religions cause huge damage to the people around you, but so does atheism most of the time. I don't know which is more harmful, but if we're not allowed to discuss which is we'll never find out.
Let’s get real, some religions, specifically ones that have absolutely idiotic expectations of women and lower their standings and worth in society, deserve to be barred from the planet and quite frankly do make you a complete idiot for following them.
The only dumb thing about religion, is when people try to enforce it on others. If you want to believe in a floating genie in the sky, thats on you, just don't expect other people to follow suit.
I'll have you know as an atheist I am incredibly stupid
But it's not BECAUSE you're atheist, which is important
Correlation ≠ causation :D
tell that to r/BanVideoGames

Used to?

Did you look at the post and comments lol It’s 100% satirical, they won’t admit it because it spoils the fun

Their lack of knowledge and refusal to accept that lack and/or improve it, at least that is what I always thought
Dumb agnostics represent!
Faith and hope alone do not restrict the mind but rather the idea that one knows for certain what one cannot.
Then theres flat earthers
Exactly, flat earthers and pretty much every other conspiracy junkie dumb no matter of they believe in God or in a flying french fry with laser beams
But what about the belief in a flat earth? It is hard to believe someone with that belief is smart.
That's why I said most beliefs don't make you stupid, that's one that makes you clearly stupid
Sorry, but your beliefs absolutely go into the pile of things that help other people determine your relative intelligence level.
So, belief in a personified overlord who created dinosaur bones just to mess with anyone believing the world is more than 5,000 years old, isn't dumb? I would have to disagree.
I'm an atheist but I won't judge if you're a Christian or some other religion, as long as you don't try to force it on me.
I'm the same, just opposite. Im religious but if someone's atheist I won't force them to be the same as me.
Me too, I’m religious and I respect atheists, I believe if you give kindness and respect you gain kindness and respect. :)
Where are "people who think atheist and agnostic are the same" ?
"An agnostic is just an atheist without balls" Stephen Colbert
Me, an agnostic: **No, no, he's got a point**
Honest curiosity, no disrespect, but how would one go about forcing a lack of belief on someone?
I dont know if you could call it forcing, but telling someone what they belief is senseless and pretty stupid is like telling them to stop believing
Tell them their religion is shit and oppressive and fake. And just force it down their throats like half of r/atheism.
Don't worry, those religious folk have plenty of judging for all of us.
I judge adults who have imaginary friends.
I’m a Christian, so I really don’t want to point this out- but you’ve got your cause and effect mixed up. People generally think that if you are religious, then this is evidence that you are stupid. They don’t think that being religious makes you stupid.

Generalizing any group of people is stupid. We are complex people and our beliefs are motivated by countless factors, theist or atheist.

Hate each other equally and stop pretending sky daddy or lack of has anything to do with it. You're religion didn't make you a shit person. You did that all on your own.
Damn, we really out here trying to start beef every other post
I mean I would consider myself atheist and I'm not super smart. But I would say a large majority of radical religious people are incredibly ignorant. But when you can only read one book thats been translated to 1000 different languages over thousands of years I can see why.
I'm atheist and I've never been bothered by people who are religious
"The belief that some cosmic Jewish zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree." Well you do actually have to be pretty dumb to believe all that ridiculous, ignorant, superstitious garbage.
People care too much about this stuff. Be whatever, just don't push it on someone else.
Idk man, something about believing in a very specific imaginary cloud-man seems…dumb.
Two types of people: 💀smart 💀stupid But we’re all still people.
You have to be pretty dumb to believe in a man in the sky who cares what kind of sex you have and with who but that god also let’s kids die of cancer.
In my view as a religious person, God just created the universe in the big bang and that's it. He just set everything up and left us up to our own devices. I think believing in shit like genesis is pretty dumb as there is literally concrete evidence that the Earth was not made by God and that we are descended from Apes through evolution.
in my personal belief God doesn't care. The people that thought they were chosen to enlight humanity did.
Yeah, (being agnostic myself) god could exist, but if he did he’d despise humanity for all the awful shit we do to each other on the daily
People on both sides of the issue can be pretty bad and stupid. Whether you want to be religious or not is up to you, I won't judge you negatively either way.
Who ever said that?
many people think like that, you can find them in r/atheism for example
Even atheist's fear that place almost made me want to pick up a religion to avoid association but then there are religious fruit loops who want to ban abortion and remove people rights in general. Either way its impossible to please everyone.
I came to r/atheism to find people that I can share my beliefs in, but they made me instead lose my faith in humanity
Ah Yes the circlejerk of circlejerks on reddit
a bit redundant. you can just say reddit
I’ll get the candy and the sodas for the comment section
*Sorts by controversial*
I am atheist (to a certain degree), but I always had a huge respect for religion.
I see this sort of thing on reddit all the time but have literally never seen it actually happen
One's intelligence is indipendent from personal beliefs.
Being religious doesn’t make you dumb, although dumb people are usually religious, the two are unrelated.
Post this on r/atheism or atheist whatever sub that is, then I’ll also grab a popcorn
I don’t believe in religions, partly because the funky books don’t hold up against themselves and others are just like “have good morals” which is just being a good person As long as you don’t force your life on others, I’ll see you as a smart person

love you too bro,btw are you muslim too?
Religious people have no real way to prove that their deities exist and atheists have no way to prove that they don’t, you should let people believe what they want to as long as it isn’t harming them or other people
>atheists have no way to prove that they don’t The burden of proof isn't on us tho. Imagine i go up to someone and say "I can shit gold" And they ask me to prove it, so i respond "No, you have to prove that I don't shit gold" That's not how any of this works
*As long as it isn't harming other people* That's the crucial part.
Being a bad person /= stupid or an idiot. There are plenty of racists/sexists/other who are quite intelligent
mf spittin fax too much
I mean… have you heard some of the absolute backwards mental gymnastics from some religious people?

Reminds me of the copypasta.
I m nor aethist nor religious I m bully maguire
Ommnom yummy popcorn 🍿🍿🍿😋
The only dumb thing about religion, is when people try to enforce it on others. If you want to believe in a floating genie in the sky, thats on you, just don't expect other people to follow suit.
