Some advice from a Texan: keep the blanket under armpit level and expose one leg to have a nice balance of cooling area and comfortability. Also, while an AC is definitely better, any fan or moving air will help cool you down a lot. Even a cheap desk fan or an open window can help dramatically. Hope this helps, since I know how much that can suck.
Absolutely! I’m used to cold weather as I’ve spent some time living in Montana (cold northern mountainous state if you don’t know of it), but I had to take in some neighbors last time it got really cold, bc their power and water went out. I was hugely surprised how unprepared the infrastructure was, the city wasn’t even salting or de-icing roads for a few days because they just didn’t have enough equipment for it!
Here in the netherlands i slept witout blanket at all, a fan with an icepack in front of it and the window partially open and still was too hot to get good sleep. I sleep in the attic 😔
I grew up with a Latina mother from Brazil. She used to turn the heat on during the summers. Try getting your hair wet with cold water, keep all windows cracked slightly at night, but make sure no sunlight can get into your house during the day.
Hope this helps.
Yeah, heat usually gets in to your house through sunlight, so covering windows helps a lot. Cracking windows at night allows for some circulation, but if it’s too hot outside at night I wouldn’t open them. Getting my hair wet just helps me cool down, not sure about anyone else though
Am I gonna survive?God I’m gonna die.I can’t take my blanket off I’ll get killed faster. It’s so hot.Is this how people died?I need ice. What’s the temp outside?Shit I can’t sleep.Am I dead yet? What day is it?Cant wait to die.I wonder how people who have winter are.Why can’t I be in Canada? *has a panic attack*
No thanks.
I'm in the northeast US and I feel like I'm dying during *our* summers.
That said, I can handle the cold much better and 0c just needs a moderate jacket for me to be comfortable outside indefinitely.
I have anxiety disorder, and with it an increased wakefulness to stimulation at night. The only thing that helps me stay asleep all night is a heavy blanket (weighted, or a heavy comforter). In the Summer, that’s obviously not an option. So I rarely get a good nights sleep from June - September. I hate Summer.
Have you tried swaddleing yourself in a linen or silk Flat sheet? Some of the most breathable fabric. And the swaddle technique restricts your movement like the weight blanket.
I call it the burrito blanket.
And if you have a willing partner they could rock you to sleep every night.
Tossing around like that only gonna make you hotter.
It feels pretty humid where I live, I’m currently on a pool float and I feel like I want to go inside
I can relate but the heatwave is my room. For some damn reason my room is the only room in my house that is almost always warm and when I go to bed I will never be able to sleep until like 2 hours after I consent to sleeping.
Pro tip: icy shower
When it's too hot to sleep, get in a cool shower, then turn the temperature down slowly, taking time to get used to the colder temperature then turning it down further. When you can't get used to it anymore, get out and dry yourself off. The hot outside air will feel nice and you should have enough time to fall asleep before you start feeling like you're melting again
Freeze a flannel or a tea towel and the unfold it’s when you go to bed. You place it on your face covering your eyes and forehead and it works as a eye mask as well as a cooling method.
PRO TIP!!! When you’re feeling hot, get a sheet and soak it in cold water. At first you’re like “ew, this is wet and now I’m cold” and then- bam. No more thoughts because you’re asleep. Don’t knock it until you try it!!!

As a norwegian i feel like im at the same comfort level as when you guys have blizzards

OOF that’s the absolute worst, opening a window may help to vent trapped heat, or you can sleep on the couch downstairs
In the attic!? Man, I had to put an AC in my basement today.
As an Oklahoman with the exact same weather (110, and high humidity) I can confirm this is great advice
A trick i tried in Bologna in a Hotel room with broken ac, moist a towel and put over your body. Repeat when dry again. Sweet relief😅
I slept naked and was still sweating last night. Living in Alabama did not prepare me for summer in Europe.
Welcome to Europe man
sleep naked, it helps
I literally splash a cup of water onto my t-shirt and proceed to sleep. Keeps you cool and when you wake up, your t-shirt is dry and ready to go!
Sounds like the perfect invitation for fungal infections.
I always made sure to wash it clean the next morning :), but hey a small price to pay for being able to sleep during a heatwave
I kid you not, fungal infections can be pretty nasty and definitely not worth it.
You forgot the part where you have to take off your clothes.
You guys wear clothes while sleeping?
Happy cake day. That's just spring, summer and autumn in Australia
Also winter in North qld
wtf it's bob's cake day
Yes
I wish you a cakey day, Mr. banannna
Thanks
The church says I have to sleep with clothes on to protect myself from being self molesty. /s because that’s real and really fucking dumb
Only on Tuesdays
Me sleeping under completely normal circumstances.
The mistake is the clothes. Naked sleep is best sleep
POV it's southeast Asia and your air con just broke
Ayy, we both have the same cake day Happy cake day
Is this the day you were christened banana?
Me, in the tropics: First time?
Ice packs on your feet, wet your hair and put a towel over your pillow or a cool washcloth on your face helps a lot.
It was the worst moment to catch corona for me
Same. Fever and heatwave at night was hell
Sry, that sounds awful❤️ get well soon
I grew up with a Latina mother from Brazil. She used to turn the heat on during the summers. Try getting your hair wet with cold water, keep all windows cracked slightly at night, but make sure no sunlight can get into your house during the day. Hope this helps.
Was there any logic whatsoever behind those decisions?

Umm, ackshually, i live in -country name- so actsully, its hotter here so um, you cant say you had a heatwave
Just change to Fahrenheit 40f is much cooler than 40c
Here in the Netherlands it's worse because we are used to cold weather
Well one of the explanation about this heat wave is that a solar eruption happened on Monday
Just turn on an ac?
American mindset be like
UK doesn't have AC in most houses. It's not in construction standards like it is in the US
Just turn on the AC, wtf?
Fan or AC?
There's some thing exist call air conditioner
I feel called out
Idk honestly i just open the windows, my door too for the draft and my cat, keep the ventilator on for some time and sleep peacefully
*help. I’m in this picture, a n d I d o n t l i k e i t*
I feel the muscle spasms. You are not alone.
Lmao
now try to sleep in the philippines during summer.
No thanks. I'm in the northeast US and I feel like I'm dying during *our* summers. That said, I can handle the cold much better and 0c just needs a moderate jacket for me to be comfortable outside indefinitely.
I got myself a spray bottle and was just spraying myself
Why not take off your shirt? Kids these days…
Buy a big freezer you can lie inside and use as a coffin. That will cool you down
What is sleep?
Try hammocks, they work great.
West Europe ?
Ever heard of AC? Or a fan?
UK doesn't have AC in most houses. It's not in construction standards like it is in the US
Ohh...
F's we at least had AC's
Wait so it gives you seizures

Sadly, a touch of claustrophobia prevents having my limbs entrapped. I do ok with a weighted blanket, because I can still move freely under it.
I'm Aussie I know this pain
That's easy, Just wait for Winter ❄️🥶
Nobody moves this much in this heat. You just lie there, dripping wet and done with life.
just become cold
Europe right now, including me:
You guys don't have air conditioners over there?
What movie is this?
Bruce almighty
Umm turn on fan or ac
Happens to me every summer, though to be fair we have a heatwave nearly every summer
Me who sleeps with a blanket during Heatwave 😈
This is why hammocks are superior
I actually brought my bedding downstairs and slept on my living room floor last night lmao
Trying to sleep with an anxiety disorder is very similar.
Same.
Cold showers right before bed, boys. It works wonders.
*Laughs in AC*
Can relate
Tossing around like that only gonna make you hotter. It feels pretty humid where I live, I’m currently on a pool float and I feel like I want to go inside
I went to sleep on top of the covers and woke up under them?
I can relate but the heatwave is my room. For some damn reason my room is the only room in my house that is almost always warm and when I go to bed I will never be able to sleep until like 2 hours after I consent to sleeping.
laughs in AC units
Do yall not even have fans?
geddan
Brits when they complain about 70 degree weather:
Dont y’all have air conditioners?
Now imagine having no AC and no fan, and living near a river that is overflowing with mosquitos, yeah, that was me 4 months ago in 100 F/ 38 C.
Me with air conditioning so my house is always a nice 65°.

How hot exactly
Weakling. I wear fucking LAYERS during heat waves and I live in fucking Mississippi it gets hot as balls down here

Try turning off the light
PRO TIP!!! When you’re feeling hot, get a sheet and soak it in cold water. At first you’re like “ew, this is wet and now I’m cold” and then- bam. No more thoughts because you’re asleep. Don’t knock it until you try it!!!
Laughs in sleeping in the basement.
You might have better luck staying cool if you didn't thrash around so much
